I was trying to get a simple way to check old computers in my domain, like mostly we query objects in "Active Directory Users & Computers" but there was no such good option to check this. As I was required to check all computer, not one by one. I get a solution via command prompt;

Solution:

Start > RUN > CMD > Press Enter

Type "dsquery computer -inactive 4"

as this query means that show inactive computers since last 4 weeks.

Note: DSQUERY required Windows Server 2003 Support Tools package to be installed on your Windows Server 2003 and this can be done by instillation of Adminpak.msi from Installation Media or in %systemroot%\System32\, location.

stories but problem is that I am in Server's Support and I mostly write about Issues,
Problem and less write about new leanings. Today, again I was facing a
Replication Issue on my Domain Controller. There were Events with ID's

=============================== EVENT ID 13555==========================

Description:

The File Replication Service is in an error state. Files
will not replicate to or from one or all of the replica sets on this computer
until the following recovery steps are performed:

Recovery Steps:

[1] The error state
may clear itself if you stop and restart the FRS service. This can be done by
performing the following in a command window:

    net stop ntfrs

    net start ntfrs

If this fails to
clear up the problem then proceed as follows.

  [2] For Active Directory Domain Controllers that
DO NOT host any DFS alternates or other replica sets with replication enabled:

If there is at least
one other Domain Controller in this domain then restore the "system
state" of this DC from backup (using ntbackup or other backup-restore
utility) and make it non-authoritative.

If there are NO other
Domain Controllers in this domain then restore the "system state" of
this DC from backup (using ntbackup or other backup-restore utility) and choose
the Advanced option which marks the sysvols as primary.

If there are other
Domain Controllers in this domain but ALL of them have this event log message
then restore one of them as primary (data files from primary will replicate
everywhere) and the others as non-authoritative.

[3] For Active
Directory Domain Controllers that host DFS alternates or other replica sets
with replication enabled:

(3-a) If the Dfs
alternates on this DC do not have any other replication partners then copy the
data under that Dfs share to a safe location.

(3-b) If this server
is the only Active Directory Domain Controller for this domain then, before
going to (3-c), make sure this server
does not have any inbound or outbound connections to other servers that were
formerly Domain Controllers for this domain but are now off the net (and will
never be coming back online) or have been fresh installed without being
demoted. To delete connections use the Sites and Services snapin and look for

Sites->NAME_OF_SITE->Servers->NAME_OF_SERVER->NTDS
Settings->CONNECTIONS.

(3-c) Restore the
"system state" of this DC from backup (using ntbackup or other
backup-restore utility) and make it non-authoritative.

(3-d) Copy the data
from step (3-a) above to the original location after the sysvol share is
published.

[4] For other Windows
servers:

  (4-a)
If any of the DFS alternates or other replica sets hosted by this server
do not have any other replication partners then copy the data under its share
or replica tree root to a safe location.

(4-b)  net stop ntfrs

(4-c)  rd /s /q
c:\windows\ntfrs\jet

(4-d)  net start ntfrs

(4-e) Copy the data from step (4-a) above to the
original location after the service has initialized (5 minutes is a safe
waiting time).

Note: If this error
message is in the eventlog of all the members of a particular replica set then
perform steps (4-a) and (4-e) above on only one of the members.

Description:

The File Replication Service is unable to add this
computer to the following replica set:

    "DOMAIN
SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)"

This could be
caused by a number of problems such as:

  --  an invalid root path,

  --  a missing directory,

  --  a missing disk volume,

  -- a file system on the volume that does not
support NTFS 5.0

The information below may help to resolve the problem:

Computer DNS name is "saturn.solexpert.blogspot.com"

Replica set root path is
"c:\windows\sysvol\domain"

Replica staging directory path is
"c:\windows\sysvol\staging\domain"

Replica working directory path is
"c:\windows\ntfrs\jet"

Windows error status code is

FRS error status code is FrsErrorMismatchedJournalId

Other event log messages may also help determine the
problem. Correct the problem and the
service will attempt to restart replication automatically at a later time.

per my experience, I fix it with a registry tweak can solve this issue, Steps
for registry tweaks are:
1) Stop File Replication service via Start - Run - type in
CMD, click ok. In the Command Prompt window type 'net stop ntfrs' and press
enter
2) Use RegEdit to edit "BurFlags" in the key
"HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ntfrs\Parameters\Backup/Restore\Process
at Startup"
* edit the dword key "BurFlags" in Hex format.
* Change from 0 to D2 or D4
D2 -
Non-Authoritative restore (pull from another DC)
I hope you know how to install Windows because I am not going to teach you Windows Installation but will try to help you about Blue Screen Issue. Windows 7 Installation on Dell Inspiron N4050 giving by Mian Shahbaz Sharif, is quite challenging. When you try to install Windows 7 Ultimate / Professional Edition / Home Editions etc on Mian Shahbaz Sharif's Laptops, you sudden get a blue death screen right after installation completes and you are just expecting to have a desktop screen, some blogs writes some solutions about it but all those are not working with me ( I have try that solutions on 4 different laptops). The Very 1st solution that I come across over internet was;

============================== DON'T TRY THIS ===========================

To install Windows Operating System on Shahbaz Sharif’s Laptops follow these steps.

Go to Aptio Bios Setup by Pressing F2

In Bios Setup Move to Advanced.

Then move to the “SATA OPERATION “

Change ACHI to ATA. In “SATA OPERATION“

Then you will see a Warning select Yes.

Then click on Exit and select “save changes and Reset”

============================== DON'T TRY ABOVE =========================

Why I said to not go for this solution? because Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) is by default
supported by Windows Vista and Windows 7 so you dont need to change the
mode to an older one and even without changing this option, you can install Windows XP on this laptop and there will be no issue at all.

SOLUTION :-

Install Windows 7 Enterprise Edition

DRIVERS :-

All Drivers are available here

Unable to traceroute but Able to ping in Linux behind ClearOS

My friend successfully deploy ClearOS, a Linux flavor, as Firewall and Gateway Server in his
network and he face a bit strange problem, he was able to ping any outer
network server / website from his Linux or Windows Pc behind Linux ClearOS Firewall but he was only
able to tracert from Windows because
when he tries to traceroute from his
Linux box, all hopes drops. His working
scenario was almost something as under;

We (me & my friend) start analyzing this issue, as I was
facing this issue for the 1st time ever. Soon we come to know that
by default Linux Traceroute Command work under UDP (User Data Protocol) with destination port numbers from 33434
to 33534 and PING command test the
reachability of a host on an IP (Internet Protocol). PING operates by sending ICMP
echo request packets to its target. Wrap Up discussions as per Wikipedia “If a network has a firewall and operates
both MS Windows and Unix-like systems, both protocols must be enabled inbound
through the firewall”. During my search over the internet , I also find
it’s partial solution that was also on Wikipedia “The implementations of traceroute
shipped with Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, DragonFly BSD, and
Mac OS X include an option to use ICMP Echo packets (-I) or any
arbitrary protocol (-P) such as UDP, TCP, ICMP.”

We test Traceroute command
quickly as,

traceroute –l google.com

Hurrah! It works, but that was
required that we must teach every user in our network that please use –l for Traceroute on their Linux box. With little research, we come to know that in iptables, we must allow traceroute on

I am going to write this post
for this issue as this is the second time I am getting this error, Frist this
error came when I promote a Windows Server 2008 Server to
Additional Domain Controller and that time, File Replication Service was doing
problem and was preventing Additional Domain Controller from replication with
Primary Domain Controller and I applied Solution
1 for this error but now when hundred times replication was done, I am
getting same error again and I just try Solution
2 and issue was resolved. Let’s start with issue and I am talking about
below error;

Description:

The File Replication Service is having trouble enabling
replication from VM-PK-DC1 to SATURN for c:\windows\sysvol\domain using the DNS
name VM-PK-DC1.<strike>solexpert.blogspot.com</strike>. FRS will keep retrying.

Following are some
of the reasons you would see this warning.

[1] FRS can not
correctly resolve the DNS name VM-PK-DC1.<strike>solexpert.blogspot.com</strike> from this
computer.

[2] FRS is not
running on VM-PK-DC1.<strike>solexpert.blogspot.com</strike>.

[3] The topology
information in the Active Directory for this replica has not yet replicated to
all the Domain Controllers.

This event log
message will appear once per connection, After the problem is fixed you will
see another event log message indicating that the connection has been
established.

Solutions

1.
Having gone through www.eventid.net
& some other articles, I found that a registry tweak can solve this issue, Steps for registry tweaks are:

1) Stop File Replication service via Start - Run -
type in CMD, click ok. In the Command Prompt window type 'net stop ntfrs' and
press enter

2) Use RegEdit to edit "BurFlags" in the
key
"HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ntfrs\Parameters\Backup/Restore\Process
at Startup"
* edit the dword key "BurFlags" in Hex format.
* Change from 0 to D2 or D4

D2 -
Non-Authoritative restore (pull from another DC)
D4 - Authoritative restore

2.
Start the File Replication service via Start > Run - type in CMD, click
ok. In Command Prompt Windows type 'net start ntfrs' and Press Enter.

3.
Check for Firewall (Windows / Router) between two
Systems, you can disable firewall or can check that RPC traffic is able to
communicate with the remote computer?

4.
If Event ID 13509 is located in your System’s events
logs than File Replication Service Restart, firewalls off / allow, DNS
configuration, or Active Directory infrastructure is working or not can also
help in this issue.

Hope
this will help you, if yes thanks for comments :)

Wateen Telecom Bandwidth Speed Test Not working - Ookla License Expired

Wateen Telecom is one of the major ISP in Pakistan and they also claims to provide services to various Mobile Operators for their GSM needs (mouth words). I am almost a daily user of http://speedtest.wateen.net for checking my ISP speed. Although Wateen itself use Ookla's speed test services (http://www.speedtest.net). I am wondering that why Wateen's license to use Ookla;s speedtest is expired and why Wateen is not trying to renew this. Almost two / three days going on and I am getting this error page;

as above page says that "The License for this Speed Test is either expired or invalid. Please contact the webmaster of this site to let them know". after this I search on Google about this and i really wonder that some local (Pakistan) website are embed Wateen Page in their website to get network traffic, like http://www.mobile2u.com.pk/blog/wateen_pakistan/wateen_speed_test.aspx. Although as per http:speedtest.wateen.net page request. I drop an email to Wateen as;

I hope they will soon get it back in working condition and people like me, who are using their services for cross check or totally relying on their speedtest will be served again. Thanks Wateen for proving a speedtest edge in Pakistan.

I feel really sorry that I will not be able to install ClearOS but I do remember that Hyper-V have two type of Network Cards option on its Hyper-V Virtual Machines. I really try the same that I once done with Windows Server 2003 Network Card, Yes ! you thinking right, I add "Legacy Network Adapter". What I have done is here;

Solution:

Forcefully Power Off your Linux / ClearOS Virtual Machine on Hyper-V

Click on your Linux / ClearOS Virtual Machine then Settings

In Settings Click on Add Hardware and Click on Legacy Network Adapter

Add Two Legacy Network Adapter in settings and restart your Linux / ClearOS Installation, hope this will help you, if you have any further question lets come up in comments.

I was searching for a
presentation or an article about Branded VS Non Branded computer where I can
find Technical discussion about subjected categories but all I come across was
either very funny or very less technical to satisfy a computer expert. I was
reading on a forum for Branded VS Non Branded computer comparison, writers says that Branded use all hardware of
same company while Non Branded built by different vendor that’s totally wrongs
because Branded Computer also use different hardware type from different
vendors. I am a Network Engineer at MacroSoftinc Pakistan and don't have
specialization in Hardware system but I am only going to discuss or explain
certain things that I learned in my professional career and I am assuming that
all reader have basic computer knowledge and secondly Branded VS Non Branded
comparison is mostly concern to some kind of environment where all below
mentioned feature matters or at least some of them;

1. Reliability

2. Stability

3. Performance Assurance

Many of my readers may be
thinking that why I don’t add support and hardware cost in above but as I
mentioned before that it totally depends on your business plan, I am from
Pakistan and had work in National and Multinational companies and all of them
was having their own business logics to save either Hardware Cost or Working
Person cost but let's discuss all points with details if till there is
something to read more :)

1. Reliability: - The very first
thing that a professional person may think is reliability of its hardware (not
software) Branded computer is more
reliable than a Non Branded Computer. How? Well a branded computer has a father
and every single hardware used, is tested at every possible level before
shipment in the market. In case of any hardware issue you can approach Vendor
or can get help from various ways. Non
Branded computer are good like a lucky gambler, these works at their Luck. No?
Obviously great word to start argument where cost matters more than users and
performance but Non Branded are less reliable in term of hardware compatibility
and they have more than double hardware issues than a Branded Computer.

2. Stability: - You may be
thinking that reliability and stability is the same thing but there is slight
difference between both of them, stability is not about Operating System or
applications only, Improper hardware configuration leads stability issue and again
Branded computer comes in market after some quality test in Vendor
organization, that's why they properly release a Professional, entertainment
& home series of Desktops, Laptops.

Non Branded computers are less stable in term of hardware
configurations. If you have a great experience and knowledge of hardware you
may be able to manage Non Branded computers or if you don’t have concern about
hardware reliability or work time loss, then it is obviously a best option to
choose Non Branded Computer instead of Branded Computers.

3. Performance Assurance: - Some advance users, who are
already using Non Branded computers in their company, may be thinking that
performance is mostly measured by applications like Operating Systems and other
usage, well I am not talking about Memory leakage and Processor usage by poor
operating systems or some kind of applications. Hardware Performance is
something that comes with loads and stress, compatible chipsets, hard disks,
processors and even Power Supplies and all these highly depends on Hardware
stability and reliability. I am not lover to spend more money but where all
above points matter, I never love to give a single argument to compromise for
these. Well, Branded Computers give more assurance on Performance because they
have try to maximum meat for Reliability of hardware and stability as well and
all these things make a path to Performance where Non Branded Computers don’t
have these things as compare to Branded Computers.

Hardware Cost is also matters for businesses where they
don’t need all above or they less need for such things, Customer Support from
Vendors also matter only if you think that your resource (humans) and your task
/ work is important because when both work and workers are uncomfortable, they
will never deliver a quality of service or at least they will not create a good
repute for your company.

=======================================================================

my WORDS:

There were a lot of searching on internet, some says that replacing network card resolve their issue, some says etc. etc. but all solutions were not possible in my production environment as there is no concept of server restart in production environment.

Solution:

Log off and Log-in back your user on DNS Server / Active Directory (rare works :).

Replace Network Card ? (not possible in production)

Check your DNS Server and delete old DNS Server records from DNS Server.

Type CMD & use gpupdate /force (if there is an error Event ID 1058)

restart your DNS Server Services (Server & Client both)

restart your DNS Server / AD Server

Achimenes is a genus of about 25 species of tropical and subtropical rhizomatous perennial herbs in the flowering plant family Gesneriaceae. According to some authorities, the plant's name may come from the Greek word cheimanos meaning "tender" or "sensitive to cold." Other suggested derivations include "after King Hakhamash of Turkey (Gk. Achaemenes)" ([sic.] presumably Achaemenes/Hakhamanish of Persia?), or it may have been named after the (probably mythical) achaemenis, a plant with alleged magical properties, only named in Pliny's Natural History.

Acer is a genus of trees or shrubs commonly known as maple.
Maples are variously classified in a family of their own, the Aceraceae, or together with the Hippocastanaceae included in the family Sapindaceae. Modern classifications, including the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group system, favour inclusion in Sapindaceae. The type species of the genus is Acer pseudoplatanus (Sycamore maple).
There are approximately 129 species, most of which are native to Asia, with a number also appearing in Europe, northern Africa, and North America.
The word Acer is derived from a Latin word meaning "sharp" (compare "acerbic"), referring to the characteristic points on maple leaves. It was first applied to the genus by the French botanist Joseph Pitton de Tournefort in 1700. Since 1965, a stylized maple leaf has been featured on the flag of Canada.
