My First Children's Book!!

New Beginnings

2012-06-21T13:15:00.003-07:00

It has been quite a while since I have posted on this site. I wanted to update you on where I am now and what is going on with Extra Special.

First off, I no longer am hosting the site Solid Rock Children's Books. There are various reasons that led me to this decision, but ultimately, I did not have the time to maintain it. In addition, my family has made a few new life decisions involving relocating and job changes. Fun times! I am no longer working a full time job, just my full time job as being a mom and wife. :) That is full time enough!!!

As for my book, I am excited that they are still selling! I get so excited to see the orders come in or to have people call and tell me they need to purchase one for a baby shower. What a great idea! I love to sign books for others and it warms my heart to think that it might be a blessing to them.

Having said all of that, I have a nice stack of books in my new house that I would love to get rid of to make room for a new shipment! Let me know if you are interested! If you would like to order a book, or two or three ;) then feel free to email me directly at ashcfrey@yahoo.com and I will be sure to get those to you. NO SHIPPING CHARGES and each book is $10. MUCH CHEAPER THAN AMAZON!!! Please, if you email me, put EXTRA SPECIAL in the subject line and let me know how many you want and what you want written in them.

If you would rather order from amazon or Barnes and Noble, no problem. You can do that as well!

Thank you all for your support!

Ashley

Happy Reading!!!

Introducing......Pat Brannon!!!!

2011-05-08T19:10:00.000-07:00

I am so excited to announce our new books that we now have available at Solid Rock Children's Book! We currently have 2 books, written by children's author and poet, Pat Brannon!

Pat is an amazing author and poet whose writing captivates children of all ages. She also travels to schools to do presentations for students on bullying. Southern Edition wrote an amazing article on Pat that I strongly encourage you to read! Click HERE to read article!

Solid Rock Children's Books is now offering Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley.
How would you like it if you were bullied and belittled daily by your fellow third grade classmates because of the way you look and smell? I’m guessing you wouldn’t like it. Well, neither does Farley O’Charlie McBarley. Studying hard, making good grades and being an honest person isn’t enough in the eyes of Farley’s classmates. Most of the kids in Farley’s class spend so much time making fun of his unkempt appearance and playing awful tricks on him that they don’t get to know the real Farley. Little do they know, Farley is much more than just another dirty little boy. He’s kind, big-hearted, and the sort of friend anyone would be lucky to have. Sound like the kind of boy you’d like to meet? Great. Just take a deep breath, hold your nose, and join Farley’s classmates as they learn what kind of boy Farley really is.

Solid Rock Children's Books is also now offering Food Fight Frenzy.
Margaret Ann Mumford, thinking it would be just another ordinary day at school, had no idea what awaited her and the rest of the third grade classes in the cafeteria at lunchtime. Did someone say food fight? Students, teachers and guests getting plastered by food in the school cafeteria? When is somebody, anybody, going to step up and be a leader instead of a follower? How do you tell Mom and Dad that you took part in a food fight? Will the punishment fit the crime? Did somebody say punishment? Bummer!

Quirky Kids Zoo will also be available soon, as well! We will let you know when we have it available to you.

Place your order today to get your very own copies of Food Fight Frenzy and Filthy Farley O'Charlie McBarley!!

new products!!!

2011-04-19T12:21:00.000-07:00

Today we are happy to have added almost 20 new Karen Kingsbury books to our online store Solid Rock Children's Books!!

Although we are a children's book store, we do offer several books for moms, too :)

Like Dandelion Dust

Some of the new products that we offer include her book that was recently made into a movie, Like Dandelion Dust. This is a heart wrenching book about adoption. Honestly, I have yet to be able to bring myself to watch it. It hits so close to home for us, I cried buckets during the trailer.. so I think I will have to wait to see the movie!!

Leaving is Kingsbury's newest series. This book was released in March and is supposedly amazing. Imagine that! I can't wait to read it myself!

A Time to Embrace is what I am reading right now. It is really good. Talk about a great book on forgiveness and accepting what God hands us. This book is really inspiring and it makes my faith grow thinking about how God does hear our prayers! AWESOME read!

Check out Like Dandelion Dust, Leaving and A Time to Embrace, all by Karen Kingsbury, at Solid Rock Children's Books!

sweet sweet moment

2011-02-23T16:30:00.000-08:00

Last night I had the honor of reading to my son, Tristan, my book, Extra Special. You would think by now that I would have read it to him, but every time we read (everyday) he has his favorites that he wants to pick out. I love that he loves to read so when he says no to my suggestions, I just go with it. Well, last night, for the first time, Tristan wanted to read Extra Special! I was really curious as to how he would respond to it. I have never read it to anyone!! I was so happy that he loved it! I think he mostly just like the soccer balls on each page because he kept talking about kicking it in the goal, but that is ok! I will take it! He was really excited about the illustrations.... Thanks, Frank! There is nothing greater than seeing your child excited about books :) It was just a sweet moment for me...

until next time!!!

Thank you, Brandermill Church!

2011-02-12T13:14:00.000-08:00

Thank you, Brandermill Church for hosting such an amazing "Dare to Dream" event! The event was centered around local Christian authors of all ages, coming together to share their "story" of how they became writers. I was honored to be able to attend such an event! Since I have just had my first book published, it was awesome to speak with other authors to hear how their journey has been. I got to hear about book talks and signings and promotions etc. It was really awesome! On top of that, after the formal part, they had a meet and greet where we got to talk with people and sell/sign books. It was really a nice morning.

Thank you so so much to those of you who came out to support the event and especially to those of you who came to support me. It meant to much to see family, high school friends, college friends and current co-workers take their Saturday morning to come out. THANK YOU. As I have mentioned before, "promoting" myself/my book has been hard for me because well, lets face it, you have to sell yourself. That is a tough thing for me to do! But, my family and friends are the BEST. I could not ask for better people in my life. God has blessed me RICHLY though these people, and for that, I am forever grateful.

In HIM I am thankful for all things.... big and little!

Next Book Signing!

2011-01-23T19:11:00.000-08:00

The next book signing I will be doing is going to be at the Brandermill Church on February 5th. I am so excited! This is the church that I was raised in and married in. It is a special place that means a lot to me so I am thrilled that they invited me to join them for their first annual book signing event. I will be one of two children's authors and there will be 4 other authors there as well. All of the authors are local. One of the ladies has written tons of books, but I will tell you more after the 5th. I hope you are all able to make it out!

If you can't make it but would like to order your signed copy, visit my website and place your order :)

Success!

2011-01-11T12:01:00.000-08:00

Saturday was my first ever book signing for Extra Special! As you know, there was a lot of hooplah trying to get the signing to happen due to printing issues and the weather issues we have been having. Josh Simpson was a HUGE help in making this day successful! He got everything set up for me at the Daily Grind, hung posters all over his church and he handed out fliers to all of the children in the children's ministry on several difference occasions. THANK YOU, JOSH!!

The signing itself went really well. I really enjoyed being able to hang out with people and sign their books. The support that I have from friends and family is amazing!

Thank you to all who have supported me in any way! I truly appreciate you more than you know!

Trouble in Paradise

2010-12-27T12:34:00.000-08:00

I haven't blogged on the book progress in awhile because I was a bit frustrated and overwhelmed... Add that to Christmas and you know how stress can be!

Let me explain why...

I was originally supposed to have 300 books in my possession before Thanksgiving. A printing glitch came up and so I had to wait to re-approve everything to be submitted. After that was finally taken care of, I was supposed to have all of the books on the Friday that was 2 weeks before Christmas. PLENTY of time for my book signing and for Christmas presents. Many people had ordered copies for presents and I wanted to make sure that I could get them to those people. They didn't come and then they still didn't come! I was getting SO impatient so I called the company. I tried for 3 days to get a hold of them and I could not get in contact with the right person....

To make a REALLY long story short(er) :)

My amazing husband called and talked to the right person. Not only did he get things moving but he took so much stress off of me. He got them to overnight 50 books to me so I was able to get those paid books to the people who needed them right then. The rest of my books will be here Wednesday. I am SO thankful for him!
The funniest part of the whole thing (not that any other part was funny for me) was that he tracked the UPS many down 35 minutes away from our house so that I could get the books sooner. We were leaving to go out of town and I needed to get them in the mail. He is so good to me.....

So now I still wait for the rest of the 250 books that I have ordered. I have moved the book signing to January 8th at the Daily Grind. I can't wait! 2011 is going to be a good year :)

One last thought.... my awesome husband I was talking about. Do you know what my favorite Christmas present was this year? A beautiful ink pen that he found for me... for my book signings :)

Blessings!
Ashley

AWESOMENESS

2010-12-06T18:44:00.000-08:00

Awesomeness... is that a word??? Probaly not :) But that is how I feel about seeing my book on websites like Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com!

Check it out!

Barnes and Noble

Amazon.com

I know I shared these links before, but they were not completed. They have the cover illustration up now. It is wild to see something that I did on there. I am excited about all of this for Frank, too. I am hoping that through this people will fall in love with his illustrations and hire him for other books, too! (He doesn't know I am advertising for him haha)

My First Book Signing

2010-12-06T18:37:00.000-08:00

It is official! My first book signing is scheduled and ready to go! I will be at The Daily Grind in Farmville on Saturday, December 18th from 11-2pm signing books! I am very anxious, nervous and excited about this! It should be a good time! I have no expectations, just looking forward to what lies ahead.
Now, I am just praying that God allows of this to flow smoothly. Getting the books shipped has been a BIG challenge and so now I am just praying for no more road blocks and for everything to flow smoothly! I need those books!!! Having said all of that, I am excited that I now have my first copy in my hands. The company sent me one copy for my first book. Then the rest of the shipment is handled separately. I can't wait to have a huge box sitting in my family room ready to sign. Bring it on.... :) Ready or not!

HELLOOOO WORLD!

2010-11-24T19:52:00.000-08:00

So I finally got the second to go to Amazon.com to see if my book was for sale yet through them.... TA-DA!!!!!
How exciting!!!!!!

Thank you so much to those of you who have pre-ordered :) There was a small glitch which has been worked out so now they can print them all and I should have them next week. Due to Thanksgiving, it may be a few days later than expected. I will be sure to mail them out to those of you who ordered as soon as I get them! You will have them with plenty of time left over for preparing for Christmas presents :)

Also, if you would like to reserve a copy, no problem! Just let me know! The easiest thing to do (especially if you are not in my town and I dont see you regularly) is to go to my website www.solidrockchildrensbooks.com and buy it there. I will send it to you. Otherwise, we can just take care of everything in person :)

So just for fun, humor me, and check out the following sites!

Extra Special on Amazon.com!!!

Extra Special at Barnes and Noble!!!

I am hoping they get an image up soon.....and to add to it, I dont know why they said that Frank was the author as well. Nothing ever goes as planned, I tell ya!!!

PRINTING TIME :)

2010-10-28T18:03:00.000-07:00

So about 3 weeks ago (or so) I really thought the book making process was done. I was so wrong. These past few weeks have been pretty stressful because I wanted to make sure things got done and the process kept moving so the books would be in with enough time to have sales before Christmas. So duing this week, I have signed off on the entire book, the cover, and the marketing tools that they will use to try to sell Extra Special for me. WOW!

Then today was a real kicker for me.... I placed an order, let me just say a LARGE order, for copies of Extra Special. Lisa, the marketing director who is working with me, told me that I needed to get my order placed as soon as all of the above things (that happened this week) happened so that the books will get to me sooner. So now I am going to have 300 books sitting in my house. Does anyone want one??? Haha....

I am so excited but yet, so overwhelmed at the same time. I would love to sell all 300 and maybe more before Christmas. I think I am going to try to do at least one book signing here in town before the holidays just to get the ball rolling. If you know anyone interested in a book, let me know!

As always, thank you for your support. My friends and family are truly the best.

What an awesome day!

2010-10-25T17:50:00.000-07:00

Today was awesome...

I had to take a half day from work today to take my son to the doctor. That is an entirely different story in itsself...

So, while I was at home I got 2, count them, TWO important calls. The first one was from my new buddy, Sam, who is the guy who has been assigned to me lately for this step of the book making process. I have now faxed over my official signature that everything is ready to go to print. Can I get a WHOOP WHOOP!?!?!?!? So exciting!!!!

Then I get phone call #2 while I am still on cloud 9 from the first call from a girl named Ashley who wants to review my ad with me. :) This is basically the way my book will be presented on amazon.com and barnesandnobles.com once it goes live. It will be on several thousand websites and it will be sent to numerous distributors who will put it in their catalogs etc. Have I said yet that I am excited???????

Now, if you could just say a prayer that people actually want to buy it. I would really appreciate it! I feel like God put this all together and placed it in my lap, so I am truly leaning on him to now help me sell it! He is faithful... no worries here :)

Thanks for sharing this joy and excitement with me. The greatest thing is going to be receiving that first book in the mail. Oh, boy, I can't wait!!!!!
