Solitaire Designs Pendants for Nikita (TV Series)

We were recently given another opportunity to create custom jewellery for film and televison use. We created a pair of signed and numbered logo pendants for the Nikita televsion series, filmed in Toronto and produced by Warner Bros. They were specificaly designed to be worn by "Alex", played by Lyndsy Fonseca. They will eventually become collectible memorabilia.

"Dear Vartan and Alex,

This message is long overdue! Mark and I married in New York City last June and have been quite busy attending other people's weddings over the summer!

As you may recall, Mark had ordered a sapphire engagement ring online and, while it looked lovely on the computer screen, it came with many flaws! The flaws became more apparent when we received what was supposed to be the matching wedding band. This was a few weeks before the big day. Needless to say, you saved the day!

Solitaire Cleans The Mess - A True Story - Custom Jewellery vs. Online Jewellery

A newly adopted client to Solitaire had her engagement ring purchased by her fiance from one of these major online jewellery websites. She went against the grain with the look and chose to use a Blue Sapphire as her solitaire stone. The web site then suggested a particular wedding band to match her engagement ring. They continued with the online jeweller and purchased the wedding band also. They got married. After all the excitement and settling in, she's realized what a mistake they made:

1) The 2 rings did not match. They where different in shape and dimension.
2) The colour was off. One ring had been rhodium plated and the other not.
3) The rings did not fit right. The finger size was wrong.
4) Shipping them back to the US for the adjustment was not worth the expense. Not covered by the company.

The wedding band was of much higher quality then the engagement ring. Not only was the engagement ring created poorly, it was aalso hollowed out from the inside.

Yes, they did come in a cool box, but past all the fancy gimmicks and high dollar website remain empty promises and disappointment.

Her unhappiness forced them to find a random jeweller to make these adjustments. After setting them back more money for repairs, they were yet again disappointed by poor workmanship from the repairs and adjustments.

Tired of Frankensteining the ring, they led themselves to search for custom jewellery. When they came to us, we suggested to recreate the entire engagement ring to match her wedding band, using her existing center stone and full credit for the now scrap gold. Having exactly what she envisioned and expected made all the extra money they spent almost "OK" for them.

As soccer season continues, our latest pendant project was this custom made men's 14K white gold soccer ball pendant. Just in time for the World Cup. This project was designed for a lucky, young soccer star. We shipped it to Vancouver, one of our many long distance relationships. Its innovative and unique two piece construction allows for a hollow yet solid design, which makes it a comfortable weight to wear. It is an exceptionally well crafted piece that will withstand a lifetime of use. Our casting and gold formula is so pure and imperfection free, we are able to achieve a mirror finish polish.

Our current design project is this logo pendant. 3 inches in length. Encrusted with 126 diamonds (aprox. 3.22 carats) and 52 emeralds (aprox. .58 carats). The strategic placements of the stones add to the complex feel of the pendant. Keeping the main "KE" logo solid with a high polish. Setting these many stones evenly require up-most patience and mastery in workmanship, an art form we have acquired here at Solitaire. The quality of the stone setting will either make or break the piece. No exceptions.

With the importance of energy awareness around the world today, it's a pleasure for us at Solitaire to work and associate with alternative energy companies such as this Canadian windmill developer. For us, it's more then just business, it's growth with respectable companies that we share similar ideology's with - uncompromisable quality and a vision of tomorrow.

When visiting our studio, their vision was something to wear at all times to remind them of the company's values, determination and quality. We brought their idea to life by designing and creating a unique unisex 18K yellow gold windmill lapel pin which symbolizes their product. They requested that we create one custom corporate jewellery piece for each of their employees and associates.

De Beers contribute C$6.7 billion in Ontario

The Victor Mine is located in the James Bay Lowlands of Northern Ontario. It is Ontario’s first diamond mine and the second in Canada for De Beers.

The Victor Mine is an open-pit mine and is one of 18 kimberlite pipes discovered on the property, 16 of which are diamonddiferous. It has an annual carat production capacity of 600,000 carats.

Construction of the Victor Mine began in February 2006 after receiving all necessary approvals from provincial and federal governments.

Approximately $1 billion was spent on construction of the mine, with approximately C$167 million spent with Aboriginal businesses or joint venture partners. It is also estimated that De Beers will contribute C$6.7 billion cumulative GDP impact for all of Ontario during the life of the Victor Mine. In October 2009, the Victor Mine was voted “Mine of the Year” by the readers of the international trade publication Mining Magazine.

Art for Africa - Solitaire's Contribution

Tonight, Solitaire will be featured as honorable presenters for a great charity called "Art For Africa". It is an annual Art & Cocktail fundraiser in aid of Gisimba Orphanage in Kigali, Rwanda and Global Relief and Development Partners. This unique auction-style art show represents the offerings of works by leading artists from Rwanda, Canada, the USA, and Germany.

We were selected as top pick from a number of jewellers. Our generous contribution is a custom deigned "Zebra" pendant. When we where approached with the opportunity to participate in such a worthy cause, our vision was to encompass one of Africa's most notable and gentle animals, the zebra. Its black and white characteristics gave us the advantage to incorporate both black and white diamonds set in 18K white gold. The complete pendant has an appraised value of over $6,000.00. Its unisex design is perfect for a full range of potential buyers.

Stephen King's "Storm of the Century" Custom Silver Cane

Years ago we had created a custom sterling silver wolf head cane for the movie "Storm of the Century" written by Stephen King. Casting 750 grams of sterling silver from a wax model and of that size was a true test of patience and accuracy. We had created 3 complete pieces (2 as extras). The experts at Walter Klassen FX in Toronto then molded the silver cane to create an animatronic version used for a spcial sceen within the movie.

Challenges such as these are the true cornerstone of Solitaire Jewellery's reputation and history.

Chess at its finest. French artist Bernard Maquin & 30 craftsmen who have worked 4,500 hours have given this masterpiece a value of $500,000.00. This Charles Hollander Collection titled "The Royal Diamond Chess" is entirely made up of 1,168 grams of 14K white gold and 9,900 black and white diamonds with a total carat weight of 186 carats. I really respect the idea and price of this creation as chess is one of the most brilliant mind games and my personal favourite. We might just have to make one for our studio...

We recently had the opportunity to win the highest bid on a rare parcel of rough emeralds salvaged from a 17th century shipwreck. We also had it lab tested and found salt particles from the ocean.
