Individual files, an entire folder, or an entire Windows drive can be shared with Windows XP network configuration.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: < 1 minute
Here's How:
Ensure Windows XP Simple File Sharing is enabled.

Open Windows Explorer (or My Computer).

Navigate to the file, folder or drive folder to be shared, and click once on its icon to select it.

From either the File menu or the right-click menu, choose the "Sharing and Security..." option. A new Properties window appears. If this option did not appear on the menu, ensure that a valid file or folder was selected in the previous step.

Click the Network tab in the Properties window. If no Network tab appears in the window, but a Sharing tab appears instead, close this window and ensure the Simple File Sharing option was enabled in the earlier step before proceeding.

Click the Share This Folder option in the Properties window to enable sharing of this resource. This allows all other computers on the local network to access file(s) but not modify them. To grant others permission to modify these files, click the "Allow Network Users to Change My Files" checkbox to enable this option.

Alternatively, if the Network tab is not enabled, make required settings in the Sharing tab to configure the equivalent sharing. Choose "Share this folder" to enable sharing.
Click Apply or OK to save these settings.
Tips:
An alternative way to share files and folders entails moving or copying them to the Shared Documents folder. In Windows, all files contained in the Shared Documents folder are automatically shared on the local network.

The procedure for sharing files in Windows 2000 and earlier version of Windows can be accessed from the "File/Sharing" menu in Windows Explorer.
What You Need:
Computer running the Windows operating system
One or more files needing to be shared
A functioning local network

Computers can interface with each other, participate in multiplayer games or programs, work together on projects, and share files. Recent computer models may come equipped with network Ethernet cards or even a wireless network adapter. Computers with built-in wireless network support are most easily connected.

Materials Needed:
- Network Cards
- Wireless Network Adapter
- two CAT5 strait-trough Cables
- Networking Hub or Wireless Router

Step 1
Prepare the equipment to be used. It is preferred to use products of the same brand when choosing a hub or router and network cards or wireless network adapters.

Step 2
Determine whether the network cards or the wireless network adapters are plugged in or built-in. Point to the “My Computer” icon and right-click. Select “Properties”. Choose the “Hardware” tab on the Properties window then click on the “Device manager” button. Search for the network adapter and make sure that the device exists (denoted by a “+” inside a box) on both computers.

Step 3
Find the computer’s Ethernet sockets or ports. They are found externally and are normally located at the backside of the computer. The ports or sockets look like phone line sockets, only larger. Switch on the network hub.
Step 4
Plug in one end of the CAT5 cable into the first computer’s Ethernet socket and the other end of the cable into the network hub.

Step 5
Plug in one end of the CAT5 cable into the second computer’s Ethernet socket and the other end of the cable into the network hub.
Step 6
Connect two computers with a wireless router. Ensure that a wireless network adapter is visible on both computers’ Device Manager.
Step 7
Connect the router into a modem (if available) using a cable that accompanies the modem or wireless router.

Step 8

Configure the wireless router by using the accompanying User’s Manual. Each router brand and model may have different configuration steps. Connect the wireless router into a computer by borrowing a modem cable. Follow the configuration steps on the router manual. It is important to configure the following: the wireless network name or SSID, the wireless encryption (WEP) and/or Wi-Fi protected Access (WPA) and the administrative password used to configure network and router settings. Save the router, network settings, and unplug the cable from router to computer.

Step 9

Link up the two computers with the wireless router. Follow documentation instructions on connecting your computers. Most new computer models with built-in wireless network support will automatically access the wireless network. Some adapters may require the use of a CD installer in which the directions should be followed.

The satellite broadcasting TV is geostationary and is at a height of 22,300 miles above the equator. It travels from west to east and if viewed from earth appears to be at a single spot.

The first step in mounting the satellite is to find out the elevation and azimuth. The city, state and the satellite has to be input and the satellite position, latitude, longitude, azimuth, elevation and the skew or the LNBF Tilt would be the output. Now, that the angles of azimuth and elevation are known, it is necessary to have a look to make sure there are no obstructions in the direction of the satellite. If the satellite dish is to be mounted on a flat beam or roof, then the base of the satellite dish must be parallel to the mounting surface. If the roof is a slanting one, the satellite dish must be at a proper angle to the roofline.

Now, the satellite dish can be fixed on the mounting surface. Further, the dish has to be adjusted such that the dish mast is exactly perpendicular to the level. This can be thoroughly achieved using a carpenter’s level. Now, the satellite dish is properly set. It has to be aimed towards the satellites.

Setting the elevation and azimuth

To set the correct elevation, first the nuts that fasten the two elevation bolts have to be loosened. Now, it becomes possible to move the dish upwards and downwards. The elevation indicator has to be lined up with the tick mark that corresponds to the elevation number. Then, the bolts can be tightened. There may be a need to readjust the elevation slightly upwards and downwards to procure the optimum signal. To set the appropriate azimuth, the azimuth nuts on the LNB arm have to be loosened in such a way that the dish can be rotated in a smooth manner with some pressure. The dish has to be moved towards the right or left to set the azimuth. The dish must point toward the southern hemisphere, which is the general direction of the satellite. A compass should be used to match the azimuth number with the degrees on the compass.

Manipulate the signal

With the elevation and azimuth correctly lined up, the satellite dish is in a position to receive the satellite signal. Now, the digital receiver has to be connected to the television. Both, the receiver and television have to be turned on. The antenna LNB has to be connected to the receiver cables.

The digital receiver’s on-screen menu has to be used to view the Setup Antenna / Signal Strength display and calculate the accurate signal strength. This signal strength and signal quality can be viewed by pressing Menu, Installation, TP Configuration and selecting ASTRA2B, frequency 12.599V SR 3249 . One person should assist in watching the Signal Strength screen to indicate that the signal is being received. The upper meter indicates the signal strength and the lower meter indicates the signal quality. If there is a signal for the lower meter, only then a signal can be received. Now, it is essential to keep standing behind the satellite dish and hold the outer edges. It has to be turned towards the right so that the azimuth is adjusted. This process of turning the dish towards the right is continued till the signal is acquired or till the angle of rotation is about 15 degrees from the starting point. If the signal is still not received, the dish has to be brought to the starting point and moved towards the left. Similar procedure has to be followed till 15 degrees to the left. If still the signal cannot be viewed, the elevation bolts must be loosened.

The dish has to be moved upward till the elevation indicator moves by half a mark. The elevation bolts have to be tightened again. Such half-mark increments are continued upwards till three tick marks are reached above the original tick mark. In case this attempt if futile, the dish must be returned to the original tick mark. Further, it has to be moved downwards by half-mark, up to a maximum of three marks.

Checks

If all the above mentioned procedure does not result in a signal, following checks are performed. The mount has to be perfectly level. Any object, like a tree, must not be along the line joining the satellite dish and the satellite. The cables have to be properly connected to the receiver. The coordinates of the azimuth and elevation have to be precise.

Fine Tuning

After the signal is received, the dish has to be fine tuned to ensure that the signal strength is the maximum. It is very important to maximize the signal, as the effect of rain during bad weather is decreased. For this, it is necessary to loosen the azimuth bolts and slowly rotate the dish in the same direction in which the satellite signal was received. The dish has to be moved till the maximum reading is achieved for the signal strength and then it starts to decrease. Now, that the value of the maximum signal strength is known, the dish has to be adjusted till this reading is reached. At the position of the maximum reading, the azimuth bolts have to be tightened. It has to be kept in mind that the Signal Strength reading need not be necessarily of 100 magnitudes. Now, the elevation bolts have to be loosened. The dish has to be very slowly moved upwards and downwards, until the strongest signal is achieved. Further, the elevation bolts can be tightened.

Polar mount

In a polar mount, all the visible geostationary satellites can be reached by rotating the antenna around a single axis called as the main axis. In the polar mount installation, two fixed angles have to be pre-set. The main axis angle has a range of movement of 90 degrees. The antenna can swing sideways along the axis. The angle by which the beam can be tipped downwards is called as the Dish Offset Tilt angle.

Next, connect your wireless router to your DSL Internet modem. If your PC is normally connected directly to your modem, use that network cable to connect your router and modem. The cable should be plugged into your modems input, and connected to your routers Internet port. The port on your router will be labeled WLAN, WAN, Internet, or something similar. This step places your wireless router between your computers and your modem, allowing all incoming and outgoing signals to be converted to a wireless broadcast.
Step 2 – Configure Your Router

Before your set up your computer with a wireless connection, use a network cable that came with your router and plug your computer directly into your wireless router. Turn your computer on and it should recognize your wireless router and connect.

Now open a browser and type in the address of your router in the address bar. Your router's address will vary depending on the brand that you purchased, and you may need to supply a username and password. The documentation that came with your wireless router will have this information, but the more common brands are listed below:Router Username Password Address
Netgear admin password http://192.168.0.1/
Linksys admin admin http://192.168.1.1/
D-Link admin ----- http://192.168.0.1/
3Com admin admin http://192.168.1.1/

Now that you have your router's configuration page open, you need to make a few simple changes. First, change your password. All routers of the same brand have the same factory set password, and your needs to be unique.

Once your password is changed, go to the Wireless Security tab of your configuration. Once there, set up your WEP keys. WEP is a wireless encryption standard, and most wireless routers will ask you to enter a password to set up several WEP Keys. These keys are used to identify individual computers on the network, and prevent any non-keyed computers from accessing your connection.

The last step is to setup a unique name for your wireless network. This can be done from the general configuration tab. The wireless network name is also known as the SSID.
Step 3 – Connect Your Computer

Now your computer will need to be set up to access the wireless network. If your PC has built in wireless capability, skip ahead to the next section. If not, it's time to install your wireless network adapter.

First connect your adapter to either a PC card slot, or a USB port depending on what type you purchases. Specific instructions will have come with your hardware. Once this is done, restart your computer. You may be prompted to install your new hardware drivers at start up. If this occurs, your hardware will have a disk containing the drivers you need, and you can install from it.

Once you have your adapter connected properly, it will detect your wireless network automatically. Once this is done, you will be asked which network you wish to connect to. There may be a list of networks detected if your neighbors also have a wireless network set up. Look for the name you gave your network during router configuration and select it. You will be asked for a key, which you can enter now. The key was supplied by your router when you configured your WEP settings.

(BROADBAND USERS)

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

It is being launched this month by Best Buy in conjunction with technology partner Dashwire, Inc. Similar to Microsoft's My Phone and Apple's MobileMe services, mIQ is designed to automate the backup and simplify the sharing of data from cell phones to other personal devices and the Web. Unlike these other services, mIQ is cross-platform, currently claiming support for more than 100 phone models. Another key difference: price. Best Buy is currently offering mIQ for free via its online account sign up page.
As with any online data service that stores your personal information, carefully consider the privacy ramifications of sharing your phone data with online providers. Although an mIQ sign up page is available, the setup process isn't fully automated; you'll need to wait until Best Buy contacts you before you can use this service.

→ More - mIQ Tour and Sign Up (miqlive.com)
→ See also - What Is Cloud Computing?

Here are my results:
1. MTN EDGE> They claim to have a an average speed of 236.3kbps (22-23kb/s download rate) but my results shows 7kb/s download speed and 125kbps average network speed.

2. ZAIN EDGE> my test shows zain as the best! I got 11kbps download rate and 130kbps network speed.

3. Glo> glo has not edge at all but gprs and they are the fastest on gprs level. I got 6kbps download rate and 56kbps network speed.

I think GSM telecommunications in Nigeria need to be serious, they are slow in upgrading to modern class UMTS and HSDPA standard.
