Hey guys !!

I know I haven't been around much. I've been having too much fun making other videos for Google+ and what not. You can check out my G+ profile at: gplus.BooeyOnline.com & the Youtube channel at: WhatMyFace.

Anyways, I found a pretty new camera app I wanna share with everyone. It's called Paper Camera. It has a bunch of filters you can apply to exisiting images, or take new photos with them. The ones I like are the Comic one and the Dark Noir one.

Google Music Beta app for Android v3.0.1 - For those not in the States

I'm really liking Google Sites. I found out I can use it as a file storage where I can share files with the public.

Anyways, I have a tutorial on my Goog site (www.somekindagoog.com), where I explain how to sign up for Google Music Beta outside of the United States. After you've signed up, you're going to need the Android app, and it doesn't show up in the Market place.

Fail: Android Youtube app update fails. Messes up some phone. (Downgrade here)

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for what you do with your phone. I am simply giving you guys the file I used to downgrade back to the version I had before I updated. It was taken from an HTC Desire Z. It was a back up done on 2011-06-08. It worked then, and it worked for me now. I just wanted to share my experiences and what worked for me. If you aren't experiencing any problems, you don't need to read this. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Google released an update to the Android Youtube app on Aug 8th, 2011. The updated version, version 2.2.16, listed "bug fixes for some devices". What it also did was "mess up some devices" or "not work any more on some devices".

There were reports all over the comment section of the market from angry youtubers telling Google to fix the app and giving it a 1 star rating.

I was one of the few that was affected by the update. Sometimes when I started the app, it would tell me that the app is not installed. When I click on a Youtube link, it doesn't open in Youtube anymore, instead it gives me an option to open it with other apps. When it did work, it would keep asking me to sign in.

Lucky for me I had a back up of the last Youtube app I had on my phone, which was version 2.1.6.

I was looking for a hosting site to upload it to. I wanted to stick to using Google's services and so I found Google's Sites. I made a very crude page, and uploaded the APK file for the Youtube app.

If you're having problems and want to downgrade, you can find the file HERE. It was a backup taken from an HTC Desire Z, if that's gonna make any difference.

I've downgraded and it works like a charm now.

Tip: Stop the Trojans, Stops the Malware !! How to:

Disclaimer: Before you read this. It is already assumed that you have the Geek Knowledge of a lvl64 Geek. If you don't know what you're doing, your phone is not rooted, you are thinking of rooting your phone, and you're asking yourself what rooting is.... Don't root your phone.

There's been a lot of talk all over the interweb about how there have been a lot of no no apps showing up on the Android Market. Google has taken them down, so we are safe there, but you know as well as I, that the Android Market Place is not the only place to download apps.

So what can't we do ? How can we stop these horses of Troy from reporting back to the mother land which porn site I've been surfing ?... Easy! The same way you do it on your computer..... with a firewall.

Take my hand and journey with me as I open your mind and let the flow of knowledge in.

To do this, you will need to root your phone. If you haven't done that yet, you should! Root is linux talk for admin, and you own that phone you're holding, so you should be the admin! There are tons of tutorials on the interweb, you just need to use Google. If you need help using Google, I'm going to ask you to leave now.

Next, we will need to download a Firewall from the market. There is only one that I know of on the Android Market Place, and it's called DroidWall - Android Firewall. You can clickity click here, or turn on your phone and scan:

Okay! Phone rooted, Check! Droidwall downloaded (and installed), Check!

Aweome!, now we need to set it up. Now when I first used DroidWall, I had it set up as a blacklist. That meant any applications I had checked were "blacklisted" from using the internet. I changed my game plan when word started getting around about the malware and trojans.

If you were to set up a blacklist, you would need to manually go into the firewall and block app that was causing problems (or you'd go and block an app so it couldn't pull any ads from the internet. No access to server = no ads). But what if you haven't been in the firewall in a while and you've forgotten what you've installed since last visit ? You'd have no idea which problems would be the ones causing all the ruckus.

New game plan: Set up a Whitelist !.

When you set up a whitelist, any app you selected will be allowed to use the internet. So when you first set up DroidWall, you will need to go through ALL your apps, and choose the ones you know are GOOD, and you know need access to the internet. When I say good, I mean you know it came from a reliable source.

There are two columns, left side for wifi access, and right side for your data plan. Checking which ever box will allow access to that service.

After you've selected all the apps you want to approve, hit the menu button and hit Apply Rules. That's kind of like saying Save.

A list of apps I've selected. Make sure the firewall is Enabled, or it will not do any good.

That's it. You'll only need to go through the whole list once.

Now, whenever you install a new application, if you know it is good, and trust where it came from, you can go back into the firewall and grant it access to there internet. If you don't trust the app, and you've installed it anyways, keep it off the whitelist, and it will not be able to access the internet to send out anything.

You don't always have to go into the firewall everytime you install a new app. Some apps don't require access to the interweb.

You may forget to grant an app access when it is need. Don't worry, you'll remember again when you try and start the app and it doesn't work. It'll come back to you.

Below is a small list of applications I have approved to access the interweb. It's not a complete list. It's just there so you guys can get a feel of what to grant access to

That's how you keep a strict control over who gets access to the network. One, root the phone. Two, download and install a firewall, and three, create a whitelist, only selecting the apps you know and trust.

Chrome to Phone: one of my most used Android app

I'm just quickly making this post because I realize some people do not know about this app for the Android. If you already know about it, you can skip this post, you guys already know how great this is. For those of you Android owners who don't know, keep reading. First, a video from Google:

Have you ever been at your desk reading an article on your computer and you have to get up and go some where ? Maybe you already have bookmark syncing, but do you really want to book mark the site you are on ? It's just going to clutter your bookmarks, and how many times do you actually clean up and organize your bookmarks ? .... come on.. really....

If you have the Google Chrome browser or Chrome Canary, you can send the site to your phone with a click. On your Android device, if you have it set up to do so, after you've sent the link, it will automatically open up the browser and go to the site. If you've send directions from Google Maps, your phone will automatically start up Google Maps, and you can get directions to where ever it is you've looked up to go.

I'm always in and out of the office so I'm always using this. If I'm reading something, and/or nature calls, I click the Chrome to Phone icon, and make my way to the washroom. Now I can read whatever it was I was reading instead of a newpaper. Who still reads newspapers in the John now a days anyways ? Again.. come on... really....

Installation is easy. On the Chrome browser, you head to the extension site here, and add the extension to the browser. Click the icon for the first time and put in your credentials.

You will need to sign in to Chrome to Phone before you can start using it.
Click Sign In to complete the process.

You don't really need to enter in any credentials if you are already signed in with your Google account on the browser. After you click the sign in link, it will take you to a site where you have to grant the extension permission.

Screen that will open after you click on sign in.

Click on the Grant access button and you are finished for your browser. Make sure that the Google account you are linking/Granting access is the SAME account you use on your Android device.

On your Android, open up the market and search for Chrome to Phone. Or just scan the QR code below:

Install the app on your phone, and that's it !. You don't need to do anything. You can start sending links from your browser to your phone now. I have my Chrome to Phone set up so that I have to launch the links manually. Some times I send more than one link to my phone, like when I am going to bed and want a bunch of things to read before I pass out. To do that, open up the Chrome to Phone app on your Android and hit menu:

Google+: How to mute a post on Google+ mobile app

This is a continueation of THIS blog post explaining how to stop notifications. This is how to do it on the mobile Google+ app for Android.

I keep seeing people complaining about getting notifications from a post. I sometimes even see people leave a comment telling everyone to stop replying to the post because they are tired of getting the notifications.

There is a MUTE function on Google+ that you can use to stop the notifications from coming in.

To mute a post using the Google+ mobile app, post up the post you want to mute. On the top right corner, there is a option icon (dots). Hit that, and you will get a pull down menu with the option to mute.

If you want to know how to mute a post on the Google+ website, go HERE.

Muting a post will stop all notifications for that one post from coming in. You can also choose to unmute the post later on to continue receiving notifications later onl.

Review: MyAppSharer - A Must Have !

I love this app. Its uses go far beyond what it was originally meant for, which is of course, sharing your applications.

When you shared an app with your friend in the past using older apps, it would simply direct your friends to the market where they would download the app. With MyAppSharer, you still had that option. In addition to sending your friends a link to the market place, you can now send them the APK file directly.

Launching MyAppSharer will open up a screen with a list off all your installed apps. From this screen, you can scroll through your apps and check one, or multiple apps you want to share with your friends.
On the top of the screen, it gives you a choice to search through all your apps by simplying typing in your search string. There's also an option for you to choose if you want to send them a link, or send them the actual APK file so they can install it directly from you.

Sending them a link will redirect them to the marketplace where they can read all about it and download, just as if you were browsing the market yourself. You can share apps via Bluetooth, Gmail, or SMS.

Sending them the APK, means they will have the app on their phone, a copy of the app.

Are you starting to see what I mean when I say there are many more uses than what it's originally meant for ?

When you send an APK, the app will dig into your phone, and grab the APK file for that app you have on your phone. It won't matter if it's a free app or a paid app, it will pull the APK and ready it to send.

One good thing, if your friend over seas does not have access to a certain app that you have access to, you can send it over. EX: a buddy in the U.S can send over the Google Music Beta app to a buddy in Canada. Cool !.. Win !

Another good thing about this, you can backup your apps ! How awesome is that ?. I've been using Titanium Backup before to back up my apps. It works great and does alot more than just backing up apps, but it's a little wonky to use. Some times restoring apps caused the app to crash too. Also, you need your phone to be rooted in order to use Titanium Backup. You don't need a rooted phone to use MyAppSharer to backup your apps... Win !

Now, I can send a copy of an app I want to back up right to my Gmail for storage. Very useful for those apps that seem to disappear from the market place and you can't seem to find them again when you get a new phone.

What this also means though, is that people can use this to pirate apps. It allows for people to share padded apps with their friends with out them having to pay for it - Not cool ! ... Fail !

There is a warning that comes with MyAppSharer that says that you have to have permission to distribute the app before you share, but that's not really going to stop anyone.

It's up to you how you want to use this wonderful app. I'm not here to tell you what to do. I'm here to tell you what the app can do. I suggest you grab the app while you can and make a back up of it though. I have a feeling that Google might pull the app from the market one of these days because of how easily it allows people to pirate apps.

Google+ Android app gets an update

It looks like the Google+ app for the Android OS has gotten an update. The current version now is v1.0.2, and it's packed full of new features, most of which have to do with the huddle feature.

Here's the list of recent changes in this new version from the market place:

* Customize the main stream view to show streams from individual circles

* Fixed some issues encoutered by users with the Swype keyboard

* Set permissions for who can start a huddle with you (Anyone, Your Circles, Extended Circles)

* If someone you've never huddled with before invites you to a group huddle, you can now dismiss the invitation

* New UI allows adding multiple people or entire circles to a huddle

* Set photo as wallpaper

* Performance improvements and bug fixes throughout the app

I love being able to choose which circle gets streamed on my stream window !!.. LOVE IT !!!
