This tweak is for broad band cable connections on stand alone machines with WinXP
professional version - might work on Home version also. It may also work with networked machines as well.

This tweak assumes that you have let WinXP create a connection on install for your
cable modem/NIC combination and that your connection has tcp/ip - QoS - file and print sharing - and client for Microsoft networks , only, installed. It also assumes that WinXP will detect your NIC and has in-box drivers for it. If it doesn't do not try this.

Step 1: In the "My Network Places" properties (right-click on the desktop icon and choose
properties), highlight the connection then at the menu bar choose "Advanced" then "Advanced Settings". Uncheck the two boxes in the lower half for the
bindings for File and Printer sharing and Client for MS networks. Click OK.

Step 2: From the Windows XP CD in the support directory from the support cab, extract the
file netcap.exe and place it in a directory on your hard drive or even in the root of your C:\ drive.

Step 3: Next, open up a command prompt window and change directories to where you put
netcap.exe. then type "netcap/?".
It will list some commands that are available for netcap and a netmon driver will be
installed. At the bottom you will see your adapters. You should see two of them if using a 3Com card. One will be for LAN and the other will be for WAN something or other.

Step 4: Next type "netcap/Remove". This will remove the netmon driver.

Step 5: Open up Control Panel->System->Dev Man and look at your network adapters. You
should now see two of them and one will have a yellow ! on it. Right-click on the one
without the yellow ! and choose uninstall. YES! You are uninstalling your network
adapter, continue with the uninstall. Do not restart yet.

Step 6: Check your connection properties to make sure that no connection exists. If you get
a wizard just cancel out of it.
Now re-start the machine.

Step 7: After re-start go to your connection properties again and you should have a new
connection called "Local area connection 2". Highlight the connection, then at the menu bar choose "Advanced" then "Advanced Settings". Uncheck the two boxes in the lower half for the bindings for File and Printer sharing and Client for MS networks. Click OK.

Step 8: Choose connection properties and uncheck the "QOS" box.

Step 9: Re-start the machine.

After restart enjoy the increased responsiveness of IE, faster page loading, and a
connection speed boost.

Why it works, it seems that windows XP, in its zeal to make sure every base is covered installs two separate versions of the NIC card. One you do not normally see in any properties. Remember the "netcap/?" command above showing two different adapters? The LAN one is the one you see. The invisible one loads everything down and its like your running two separate cards together, sharing a connection among two cards, this method breaks this "bond" and allows the NIC to run un-hindered.

If you setup a new hard drive and install an Operating System on it and it suddenly acts like the hard drive is not there, it may be a loose connection.

If a bootable CD, such a s Knoppix, is not able to read your hard drive, it can have several causes. The list of possibilities below can also be used for troubleshooting hard drives, floppy drives, and CD/DVD drives.

CAUTION: Make sure the power is off and that the PC is disconnected from power. Also be sure to avoid static electricity, or you will need a new PC. Do not force any thing. All parts should easily fit together if they are properly aligned. Sometimes you may have to push or pull harder than you think. Just be careful to make sure any levers or buttons that hold it in place are not overlooked.

* Least likely is that a new hard drive has failed. Try the other options before assuming it is the new hard drive. If all of the below do not work, and it is a new hard drive, contact the manufacturer. New hard drives should include very good instructions for installation and troubleshooting. When in doubt read the instructions.

* Open the case and make sure that all the connections are correct.

* Unplug the power supply connection, make sure there are no bent pins, and plug it in securely.

* Repeat the procedure with the connection to the motherboard, make sure no pins are bent.

* If you have multiple drives, try hooking up just one drive to make sure you can read it.

* Make sure that the power supply, and other components are working correctly. It is possible that another component of the PC has failed.

* If you have another PC available, try connecting it to the other PC. This could point to failure of the power and/or motherboard cables in the original PC.

* If none of the above works, call in professional help. You can also beg a friend or family member to help. If you cannot pay a friend or family member, a good meal, is a nice way to get them to rescue you again.

Kaspersky 2009 and Mcafee Siteadvisor conflict fixed

Today I downloaded Kaspersky Internet Security to see how good is it than the previous version. So, I downloaded it and started installation and I selected "Express Install" after that a window appeared telling that KIS install cannot go further because of this "Mcafee Internet Security with Siteadvisor 2008".

But actually Mcafee Internet Security is not installed. Kaspersky wrongly identifies Siteadvisor as Internet Security and do not install KIS on your system. So I uninstalled Siteadvisor because I was more curious about new KIS features. After uninstalling Siteadvisor I again tried to install KIS but it again shows you the same old story...

If you are facing this problem you have to follow these steps in order to install kaspersky.

Step1 : Uninstall Siteadvisor.
Step2 : Download Ccleaner and install it. After installing run Ccleaner to clean Registry errors and junk files.
Step3 : Select "RUN" from start menu and type in "regedit".
Step4 : Now go here "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SiteAdvisor" and delete siteadvisor Entry (Right click on it to delete).

Now the installation of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 goes smoothly without any problem. After KIS is installed reboot your machine and you can install Siteadvisor.

How To Change your Laptop Processor Easily

It's is not difficult to changing a laptop processor once the laptop is disassembled. The most challenging thing about working on laptops is the small size of the components. It's also very easy to reassemble parts in the wrong order.

Most laptop manufacturers have detailed diagrams and manuals that explain how each component fits in the housing. The laptop owner's manual also has information about the kind of processor you need for your particular model.

1) Before start you need to refer your laptop owner's manual and assembly guide as you disassemble the laptop. Touch something metal periodically to remove static charge, and work on a large table with a bright light source.

2) Turn off the laptop and unplug it. Remove the main battery, CD/DVD drive and the hard drive. The hard drive is usually located in a slot on one side of the laptop. Remove the screw that holds the cover in place, and then pull the hard drive sled out.

3) Turn the laptop over and remove the screws on the bottom that hold the keyboard in place. Some of the screws may be covered with stickers or rubber plugs. Flip the laptop over, open it, and then lift the keyboard up and out. Unplug the flexible ribbon cable that connects the keyboard to the motherboard.

4) Unplug the heat sink fan. Remove the screws that hold the heat sink in place, and then remove it from the laptop. Release or unscrew the mechanism that holds the original processor in place, then remove it from the laptop.

To remove the CPU there will be a screw with a padlock symbol, or a bar that you pull up to unlock the CPU from the socket

5) Apply a thin layer of thermal compound on the processor. Make sure it is securely attached and properly aligned in the CPU housing.

Note: Be very careful with the pins, they can easily be bent, and match the pin set, there is a pattern and match this pattern to the socket. Also CPU should fall easily into the socket DO NOT force it.

Next lock that into place, and on top of the CPU put a small pea sized amount of thermal paste, Arctic silver is good.

6) Now replace the heat sink and fan. Replace the screws, then plug the CPU fan back in.

7) Connect the keyboard to the motherboard temporarily. Plug in the laptop, restart it, and then follow the instructions in your owner's manual to enter the system's BIOS. The new CPU should now be recognized by the BIOS. Turn off the laptop, unplug it, and then remove the keyboard. (BIOS will detect the new CPU, and windows will install the new drivers)

8) Do not strip or over-tighten the screws. Follow the guide carefully as you reassemble the laptop. Replace any round stickers or rubber plugs you removed to complete the upgrade.

How To Format Memory Card Of A Mobile Phone

There may be some occasions where we need to format a memory card because of virus problem or slower speed of the mobile phone or any other problem. So here I am providing with you the step by step process to format the memory card of a mobile phone. To format a memory card you need a Memory card reader as shown below.

Note: Take backup of your important data such as contacts, messages, downloaded ring tones, wallpapers, snaps taken by you etc. before formatting the memory card becoz all data will be lost after formatting the memory card

There are varieties of memory card readers are available in the market. Take a better one for you. Here are the steps to do so.

step 1: Insert the memory card into memory card reader which is to be formatted.

(There are many type of memory cards available in the market such as SD/MMC , Mini, Micro, SM/XD, MS/MSPRO, CF/MD etc) So insert the memory card in the appropriate slot of the card reader. If you don't have a Micro slot in the memory card reader then you need a adapter for it and then you can insert into MMC slot.

step 2: Plug your memory card reader in any of the USB (universal serial bus) port of your computer. It might be on the front of the PC or may be at the back of the PC.

step 3: Then open My Computer

step 4: Right click the drive that belongs to card reader and choose FORMAT from the menu. (A window appears on the screen)
step 5: and then choose the desired file system type from file system drop down menu.

step 6: type in the volume label for your memory card in the volume label text box and then press Start button to start formatting of the memory card.
step 7: A warning message will be appeared on the screen showing that all the data in the memory card will be erased. Press Ok button to start formatting process.

step 8: A message will be appeared on the screen "Format complete". Means your memory card is successfully formatted.

Note: If other than this message is appeared on the screen such as "Memory card is write protected" then

>> Check the lock of the memory card adopter if you are using a adopter.
>> Check whether memory card is inserted into card reader properly
>> Check whether memory card is inserted into the adopter properly or not if you are using adopter for micro.
