We became acquainted when things in my life were grand
I started posting to have a place to be myself
to share the fun pictures and silly memories.
Then I left you to pay attention to business
and only gave you fleeting attention.
Then I fell into a depression and wanted to use
you to vent my feelings and expose my pain.
I couldn't because I didn't want those who hurt me
to have a window to pour in their salt.

This is one of those awful poems that isn't like a poem at all, except maybe for the fact that I pressed return at the end of every few words to make it look "poemy". Speaking of poems, I had the pleasure of attending my son's 5th grade class poem reading. They were so cute, they served "hot chocolate", I lovingly refer to it as brown water. One of the kids started their poem out with "My brother sucks" ...as soon as I heard that all my nervousness for my son went out the window. I knew even if his poem didn't rhyme it couldn't be worse than "My brother sucks." Oh the joy those parents must have felt that day drinking their brown water and listening with pride.

I toast you all this Thanksgiving Day with a glass of brown water and a poem of my own. At least I didn't title mine "I have known a few assholes in this lifetime."

P.S. Sadly, my son inherited my lack of haiku skillz.

I am the worst blog parent ever. If there is a Blogosphere Social Services someone go ahead and call them because I need this taken away and placed with a more nurturing family. One that will give it daily attention and not just dress it in a nice header and add a Lijit search box. I have not fed the poor thing since September!! But you already know that because you stopped visiting (all 3 of you) and all I get around here is a very consistent parade of g00gle searches for:

But alas, they each will get more press, more money and more annoying as time goes by. I don't see why the VMA doesn't just put a sign on the door that says, "Kanye West go home, you are not welcome here."

Beyonce was a class act as was Taylor Swift for coming out and giving her acceptance speech. They both deserve the limelight and it PROVES that those who use Twitter end up winning a lot of things. BTW, are you following me on Twitter? You never know when I might need your vote, I'll follow you back unless you are a bot and then I will block you. :)

Does This Constitute a Parent Fail?

Has anyone else gotten the "parent interview" paper home from school? The one where my child cheerfully reports, "I don't have homework, but YOU do!"

I have had two different ones so far this year. So, this will be simple... What is your child's favorite subject? oh, that's easy.....math, no --- shit why didn't I use a pencil? It's definitely science. Doubt, fear. What if I write science and he HATES science.

This little "homework assignment" just turned into an interview. (Patting myself on the back for the great idea to use this as a way to involve said child in the assignment.)

ME: "What is your favorite subject?"
Buddy boy: "Reading." This from the child who would rather have hot pokers in his eyes or be set outside in the wet grass to be eaten alive by mosquitoes than to run his eyeballs over a page with words on it.
ME: "Are you kidding me? You HATE to read, you whined and carried on all summer when I would tell you to go read a book!" Now this interview has turned into an argument.
Buddy Boy: "That was because it was summer, I love to read during the school year."

(FYI, I ran out the VERY next day and bought him a book. I'll be damned if that kid didn't lay in bed and READ himself to sleep last night!)

OK, second parent questionnaire, this one is on volunteering. Whew, this one is about ME, I will know ALL the answers.

Questionnaire: Do you have any special skills or talents you would be willing to share with the students/teachers?

ME: I don't know, do I? Shit, who can I call and ask if I have any special talents? OK, ship that one and come back to it.

Questionnaire: How often do you want to volunteer?

ME: Easy, wait, will I look like a loser if I say once a month? What if I want to volunteer in each kid's classroom, there is no blank for that. Do I look like a psycho mom if I say I want to volunteer once a week? I mean get a life lady!

Questionnaire: Would you like to volunteer at our sister school?

ME: No, not really, but does that make me an asshole fo not helping out where they need the help?

Dear School- Don't send any more homework home for me.

People who have their twitter account hooked to Facebook and tweet like every 2 seconds.

Eating dinner at 4pm so we can be to football by 5:15.

Coaches who say practice is at 5:30, but yell "You're late!" to anyone who arrives after 5:20.

People who continue to have the same problem OVER and OVER and never once take a look in the mirror, but blame everyone around them.

Kids who by the 5th grade do not come in the door from school and automatically answer the 5 questions I have asked daily for the last 5 years : "How was school? Anyone get in trouble today?* Who did you eat lunch with? What did you do at recess? Do you have homework?" *BTW, this is a GREAT question to ask when you want them to talk and you learn a LOT about the day.

People who say they are going to do one thing and do another.

Waiting for test results.

The way my daughter acts like she can't brush her teeth.

Kids who ask for dessert EVERY night.

Kids who ask what we are doing tomorrow after school.

What is annoying you?

you get a little something like THIS from a great friend:

Headless Mom has been a supporter of mine for a LONG time. I'm not talking months or even years, I'm talking DECADES! She inspired my first mini skirt in 8th grade (or was it 7th?), she introduced me to the Go-Go's, she patiently went over, and over, and over the cheer routine with me knowing full well that I just wasn't going to get it. She's seen me heart broken, in love, mad, sad and glad. She's given me a truckful of helpful advice including the nudge to keep blogging through and around the stuff going on in my life. I love this woman! Thanks for being there all these years and showing me what it means to have a friend for life.

But alas the award comes with strings attached...The rules are as follows:

List 5 obsessions that I have and then tag 5 other people. (who comes up with this stuff?)

5 of my obsessions are:

1. Red Bull- (is it ok to start off with that?) Now I'm feeling guilty, maybe I should put "Raising my children to be happy, healthy, productive citizens." hmmm, even typing that felt wrong, it's definitely got to be Red Bull.

2. Sexual health- (that sounds creepy but so does Red Bull as #1 over everything else) my job as a sex educator is a passion of mine. My goal? Educate WOMEN about their bodies, make them laugh and give them an excuse to have a glass of wine while giggling with girlfriends, all in a setting that will have their parnters PUSHING them out the door.

3. Reading- anything really, I love to read and learn. I mostly read the internet, but I just tell people it's like reading a book. I read a TON of blogs (I'm better at doing that than keeping up with my OWN blog)

4. Facebook- me lovey some Facebooking, just a week ago I got back in touch with one of my besties from High School. oh did that girl make me laugh!

5. Cleaning- you read it right, cleaning. Anyone who knows me IRL is now choking on their coffee. That is a big fat lie, just ask my husband he'll tell you! I want to say exercise, but it isn't quite an obsession yet, but I'm working on it!

1. I am going to double tag Serenity Now - is that breaking some super secret bloggers rule? I started reading her when she was doing her 365 posts. She must have worn herself out she just doesn't post as much any more.

2. My Frugal Adventures (damn, I should have made HER one of my obsessions!) This woman is a TRUE gift in my life. I am learning the art of coupons, saving and having fun while doing it. Charlene puts an incredible amount of time and effort into her posts and I SO love her for it!

3. Mountain Momma Musings - this woman can write, she's funny and I think from reading about how she doesn't make her bed, she and I might get along VERY well (although for the record I DO make my bed, I just don't finish cleaning out the crockpot after making chili until there is mold floating on top of the water, but I digress)

4. Classy & Fabulous - the name says it all don't you think? What it doesn't tell you is that this young lady (uggghhh I'm OLD) is a great writer, sassy and just plain darling. I love reading her posts they make me feel as young as I am in my brain! I figured she needed a fabulous award for her fabulous blog!

5. The McMommy Chronicles - she's a blogger star, but her posts make me laugh or smile so she gets my award!

So, I have a new favorite guilty pleasure, this blog called Emails from Crazy People but this post called Italians aren't Kosher (audio)was pretty funny in a kind of sad way! (warning: profanity and racism) I'm trying to figure out what made it funny to me and I think part of why I got such a kick out of it is not because of the joke, but because for a few minutes this bigot of a man had the scare of his life. Hopefully the public embarrassment makes he and his wife take a look at their prejudices.

In my last post I promised to deliver the good news about your pelvic floor. I promised to post this the next day. Here we are three days later. Just letting you know that I have a skewed sense of what "I'll post tomorrow" means.

OK, OK I know you are here for the good stuff, the details about how doing Kegels is going to ~~make you a vixen in bed~~ improve your sexual health. IF you missed ~~yesterday's post~~ three days ago's post you'll want to catch up, so go read here first. Ok, I know you are jumping right to the good stuff, just promise me you'll read the previous post.

A prolapsed uterus is no fun and Kegel exercises will definitely help with urinary incontinence (as long as you do them properly). But a tight, toned pelvic floor will ALSO allow you to experience orgasm in a whole new way. Orgasms become more frequent, more intense, and your chances of having more than one just shot through the roof! Anyone else jumping up and down clapping? Careful with the jumping though, a weak PC muscle (Pubococcygeus muscle) can cause a little urinary leak, that's never romantic.

Kegel exercises, just like any other form of exercise, create an increase in the the blood flow to the pelvic region. This will increase your awareness of the clitoral and vaginal sensations that lead to orgasm. The rhythmic muscular contractions in the pelvic region that produce intensely pleasurable sensations just got that.much.better. A strenghtened PC muscle will contract more powerfully than would a flabby muscle, and hence the likelihood of stronger orgasms is much higher with stronger PC muscles.

Blah, blah,blah what does it all mean? It means that doing Kegel exercises will ~~help your physical health as well as your sexual health~~ - ~~keep you from peeing your pants like Fergie~~ make you GREAT in the sack!

If Your Uterus is Falling Out I'd Like to Welcome You and Make a Few Suggestions

Seems I get a lot of traffic to the blog from people searching about their uterus falling out. Remember when I made a sarcastic reference here to mine falling out? Well, I happen to also be somewhat "in the know" about such things. See, I am a sex educator and, well, I sell things to help women improve not only their physical health, but their sexual health as well. Since I get so many peeps coming to the blog looking for one thing, but then just getting a post about this, I thought I'd at least offer up some good information about what they can do about this prolapse problem.

First, a little background. Hopefully your doctor has told you to do Kegel exercises. If you aren't sure what that is, read here and I'll wait for you. Back? Ok, so the pelvic floor is VERY important not only for your physical health, but for your sexual health as well. Calm down people, we'll get to the sex stuff in a post tomorrow.

Your pelvic floor needs no mopping or waxing which is the good news, bad news is if you don't take care of it by doing your Kegels, you might very well find yourself peeing when you laugh, sneeze or jump on a trampoline. Worse yet, if things really go bad you might find yourself with vaginal or uterine prolapse aka "ACKKK, is that my uterus/bladder coming out of my vagina?!" At that point many women require surgery to get those organs back up where they belong. Not fun and NOT funny here on the Something Funny Happened Today blog!

Kegel exercises aren't just for older women or women after childbirth. Although they definitely help with the "wind tunnel" problem that many women have after multiple births. The pelvic floor muscles aid in childbirth as well as preventing future problems. So, you young things better get to working out as well!

Many women do the Kegel exercises all wrong (or not at all), using their stomach and butt muscles....WRONG muscles. So, there are something called Ben Wa Balls that are meant to force you to use the right muscles. These weighted balls, when inserted into the vagina, will let you know if you are using the correct PC muscles, other wise as soon as you stand up the ball will fall right out. Don't get discouraged, it will take some time, but you can work up to being able to not only stand and hold the balls in, but walk around (don't get cocky and head out to the grocery store or the mall-that spells disaster for sure). The ben wa balls serve as a bar bell for the vagina and ensure that you are actually working out the appropriate muscles.

Let me back up here a second...anyone get hung up in the last paragraph where I mentioned putting the balls in the vagina. Did any of you begin to panic about the balls getting "lost"? Did visions of the Emergency Room flash through your head? How about picturing the balls coming out your nose if you sneeze? All totally normal thoughts, but absolutely NOT going to happen. The balls are weighted which means you'll be hard pressed holding them in for 5 minutes, let alone getting them stuck in there. Also, there isn't anywhere for them to go. If you are still worried take a look at the picture below, that is all you need to do to get them to fall right out if for some reason you have some bionic pelvic floor.

We survived the airsoft war ManBash that was Buddy boy's 10 year birthday bash. This is the kid who was never allowed to have even a play gun. I was that mom who insisted that guns would make him a mass murderer and our house didn't have even one play gun until he was a cowboy for Halloween one year and I caved. Mr. Man took full rein on that one and bought a CAP gun. (I about came unglued!) I think he worried that I might never have another lapse in judgement again so he tried to get his money's worth out of me...little did he know that in 2008/2009 I would have a complete mental break that included a gun safety class, a Red Ryder for Christmas and now air soft guns that can cause a welt and even blood if you hit exposed skin from a few feet. I think this is what happens when you try to smother pure instinct. My son had his fair share of guns...made of bananas, sticks, toilet paper rolls, fingers, you name it and he was able to turn it into a gun complete with sound effects. Sure, my friends laugh and I am sure have had conversation about how I have lost my mind. But the party was a huge hit, the boys came home minus any injuries and even the dads are talking about when it will be their turn to have a shoot out in the mountains. I may have been on a hiatus from the blog, but that doesn't mean I haven't been all over the web reading, starring and enjoying other people's blogs and awesomeness! I'm shocked at the spectrum of material that I not only read, but star. Enjoy!

I'm a newly converted coupon whore. My Frugal Adventures is an AWESOME blog. Charlene puts an incredible amount of time into her tips and I appreciate all that I am learning from her. My first trip to the grocery store using ONLY her printable coupons saved me 48% of my bill!

These cinnamon rolls make me drool and the picture on Joy's site are sure to make you hungry and at least 5 lbs heavier just by looking at them. Such a great place for all things delish.

This was something I had every intention of doing, Simple Mom makes me feel inadequate, but she's got such a great way of making me feel like I REALLY could do this if I just gave it even a smidge of effort...

I love a blog that makes me feel better about my junk drawer though and total props for Happy Hour Sue who videos her webkin explosion as well as her junk drawer. Oh, and Sue, my kitchen looks like that too! Check out Simple Mom, you'll feel inadequate too.

Target clearance schedule...this seemed important and highly top secret information to me which is why I starred it in my reader...now I don't need it because I have Charlene and her incredible Target tips... oh and I found out it isn't really that top secret.

It isn't Fall anymore, but I wanted this "look"... ask anyone who knows me...I didn't have this look at all this Fall. Maybe next Fall?

My gut is just telling me that this girl did not "fall asleep" at the tattoo parlor while someone poked needles in her face to make 56 stars. Here's where the lie comes in. She either knowingly got the tattoos and she's lying about falling asleep OR she was on drugs and was able to sleep through the whole thing but doesn't want to get in trouble for being dosed up. Either way, I am showing this to my kids as proof of what happens when you lie to your parents.

I have taken a much needed, although not wanted, break from my blog. I felt I couldn't be here sharing the funny happenings of my daily life when I felt like I needed to talk about what was REALLY going on. Friends told me to blog around it, others didn't understand why it mattered if you were reading, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. The clouds are beginning to part and I'm taking back what is mine. I have gotten past the fact that you might be reading here, you might get a glimpse into my life, it's ups and its downs. I'm back today because this not so funny video needs to be shared AND I'm ready to be myself again, with or without you in my life. This video shows me that there are much bigger worries and problems in this world than what I have going on. Even if I don't have any readers anymore, I don't care. I'm back to doing what makes me happy...sharing things I find funny, interesting, important.

It feels good to be back.

Wow! I'm glad I work from home when I compare pies I spend the bulk of my time with my kids or sleeping. The average CNN poll taker spends the majority of their time working or sleeping. (there was no option for time spent taking polls on CNN.com)

I didn't have an option for blogging, Facebook, Twitter or screwing around on the internet, so I just called it "work" and included that in there as well.

Today the girls and I went to get pedicures before I head out to New Orleans. I mean, who wants to walk down Bourbon street without a fresh manicure right?** I took my daughter along as she is thrilled to play in the chair, drop and SPILL her entire bottle of toe nail polish on the floor, and stare at the women when they are speaking...umm, what is it that they speak? I call it RUDE, but I don't think that is a language. Ayhoo... the little girls decide they want Easter Egg designs on their toes instead of the standard flower. Our first clue should have been when they all began speaking in "Rude".

I imagine the conversation might have gone something like this:

Lady #1: "Easter Egg? Why not flower?"
Lady #2: "What IS an Easter Egg?"
Lady #3: "It is an egg with dots."
Lady #1: "Oh...why not flower with sparkle?"
Lady #2: giggles, "I'm going to make mine ugly so she asks for flower next time."
Lady #1: "Ok, me too."

My friend and her dad made it safely to India for the liver transplant. She said the pollution is overwhelming and that the air has a ~~funny~~ ~~weird~~ odd smell to it. Go check out her blog and follow along as she donates part of her liver to her dad.

I want to introduce you all to a new blog and the journey of a good friend of mine. She and her father leave for India today. They are headed there with high hopes and optimism for the journey they are going on. They won't be there to sight see, they will be there to save a life. My friend is donating part of her liver to her father. The ~~stupid~~ crazy system here in the States would not allow him to even get on the transplant list due to his lack of health insurance. Being resourceful they looked into alternate options. Check out and follow along with their amazing journey to a foreign land to save a life. If you are so inclined prayers are always welcomed! Imagine how great they would feel to land in India, get checked into their home away from home (a hotel room) and to log into their blog and see well wishes from complete strangers who might just become friends and allies on this journey. While you are there give a congratulations as my friend just got married before she left!!

Is it just me or do other bloggers wake in the middle of the night with ideas for witty, thought provoking posts? I have the whole thing written out in my mind at 2:43am. If only I would get up and type them into the computer I would be sitting on daily posts and involved readers. As it stands, I get back to sleep around 4am and by the time morning comes all witty posts are gone from my head. (if you are reading this you are thinking, "No doubt.") I do remember telling my mouth breather husband to, "Roll over and punch yourself in the face." I don't know if 40 has made him breathe louder or has made me wake easier but I can't take this!

Yawn, I'm back to sleep peeps.

P.S. Miss Thing had her soccer game, it was 63 degrees and sunny. Coach Warm Weather was there minus her gymnast daughter and the girls won their first game. I'm wondering if we'll all need to witness Coach's g-string and tramp stamp all season long when she bends down to tie a shoe? Just sayin'.

I gave one of these to my dad for Christmas and he loved it. It has given my mom a whole new lease on life since she doesn't have to stop what she is doing to log him in and get him to gmail! He is quite the internet pro now: he gets his own boarding passes and checks into his flights online, he's connected with old college friends through email and now if only I can get him on Facebook and Twitter!

Winter sports with a Coach from California

So, Miss Thing started "spring" soccer. Even though we are March it really can't be considered Spring yet with all the snowfall we are "hopefully" still going to get. Well, her coach just moved to Colorado from San Diego...she thinks it's real cold here. I guess compared to San Diego it is cold here, but , um it is Colorado and this is one of the most mild winters we've had in a long time! So, when it comes time to practice the outdoor sport of soccer, it might be a bit nippy or even a little COLD. The first game is this Saturday, but seeing as practice on Monday was cut short because it was cold (and I will grant her that one, it was cold and Miss Thing was in shorts). Come today, Wednesday, sunny day, nip in the air, nip, not nipples, I get a phone call that practice is canceled because "it is cold out and the girls were crabby on Monday when it was cold."

I started off on a really good foot with Coach Warm Weather when I was trying to make conversation with her before practice started. She was counting the girls and wondering who she was missing. I said, "Miss Thing said there was a girl at last practice who didn't really want to play, is she here yet?" "Yes, she's here, that would be MY daughter." So, mom doesn't want to play soccer because it is too cold and her daughter doesn't want to play soccer because she prefers dance and gymnastics. Should be an interesting season.

I hope we don't have to deal with this all season---->

Good news it is supposed to be 56 degrees on Saturday! That's a nice warm day for soccer and even some mid-field gymnastics!
