Amazing 3D Navigation of Public Photos

Someone just sent me this link to a video demonstration of a (n improved) software that allows navigation of public photos, from flickr for example, by recreating a 3-dimensional environment. I’m told this is in development at University of Washington and was presented at SIGGRAPH ’08. It’s some really impressive stuff! Video demonstration after the jump.

Lately, I’m totally obsessed with WALL•E, which I think is my favorite movie since The Matrix. I fully recommend it; as usual, Pixar does not disappoint. Anyway, I was poking around on youtube and found out that disney/pixar has made a real animatronic WALL•E, presumably for one of their theme parks. Awesome! Clip of him in action after the break.

A political group got together and took out an ad in the New York Times for Independence Day. It’s my opinion that political activism is most crucial in desperate times. Citizens have to get informed and get involved to keep crazy rulers in check, and at the end of the day, it’s the people who really change things, not just new government officials. Primitive Robotic Housekeeper

Just found these videos for the custom-built Readybot, a robot designed by a team of senior engineers from Silicon Valley. It is meant to clean things up a bit around the house and do various menial tasks. I think it’s a dreadful name and that maybe they should have gone with something like Rosie and given it a frilly apron, but I digress. I think it’s pretty awesome as it is, and the bot even has an onboard roomba! Videos after the break.
