It has been on a long time and it seems like it is never the really good performers who get choosen in the end anyway (just my oppinion).
This was not something I was aware of when I got this book. If I had this knowledge beforehand there is a very good chance I would not have chosen to read this book.

After reading the first couple of chapters I realized that I was finding this book boring. The boredom happened in varying degrees and at about the time when I was ready to stop reading the book altogether it would pick up with the promise of becoming suddenly exciting. The fact that I found the story of Ed King boring is amazing because of the many ways the story mirrored the story of Oedipus, a character in a Greek tragedy who kills his father and marries his mother.

In this novel by David Guterson, Ed King is the illegitimate child of Walter Cousins, a mild mannered actuary, and Diane Burroughs, the sexy not legal British au pair who takes care of Walters children one summer while his wife is in a mental hospital suffering from a mental breakdown.

When Ed is born Diane leaves him on a doorstep, abandoning him in the hope that he will go to a good two parent home. This of course happens in due time. Ed lives life very much as other children do. He grows up, goes to school, participates in sports, etc. At a point in the story it is discovered that Ed King is a genius. He goes on to become an internet tycoon worth billions of dollars. Ed becomes an international celebrity and king of search who is moving through life toward a fate he may not be able to shape.

There are many issues this story deals with from infidelity to incest, from death to murder in a way that I have to say seemed very boring to me. I have to admit though that the end of Ed King asked some great questions. The type of questions that have you wondering about the great mysteries in life, right down to the last anagrams between Ed and his pilot.

As I think about it there may have been some messages or ideas that I can take away from this book that are actually very true. That may be the reason why I kept reading Ed King.

First of all let me ask you a couple of questions. Do you know who created Superman? Can you believe it was a teenager? This first article tells of 6 teenagers who did something that changed the world somehow.

https://spn.sr/MJ0

Secondly let me tell you that 2011 was a year of extreme weather. Donèt believe me, take a look at this link for some satelite images of some of this extreme weather we experienced during 2011.

https://spn.sr/NJ0

Today I learned who created Superman and I also gained some insight into the kind of weather we had in 2011. Well today ushers in a new year and with it hopes of lots of laughter and less turmoil, at least for me. I have had a hard time health wise this year and am starting to feel a bit better although I am still not up to 100% yet.

I am not one for making new years resolutions because all too often I do not follow through with them. This year is no different, although I have been thinking it would be a good idea for me to make a goal or a promise to myself that I will try to be less frantic and stop making mountains out of molehills. You see I have a tendancy to make too much of things and then I become upset, angry or frustrated with things and people around me (or so I have been told). Maybe I do make mountains out of molehills so for this year I will set a goal to be more aware of when I am doing this and stop it.

If you could wish for one gift this Christmas, what would it be?
Now think about that for a moment--do you have an answer, a truthful answer. Here is another question. Do you know the value of time?
Do you know what is truly important in life?
Positive Energy? I doubt it.

Monday, Dec 5th, 2011 -- People around you can pick up on your upbeat attitude, making your positive energy quite contagious. Even if you're not sure that it's time to spill the beans, you probably won't be able to keep the buzz to yourself today -- not that you should try. Making new connections now extends your reach and allows you to impact even more people than you previously thought possible.

My two cents about todays daily Sagittarius horoscope:
I have said it before (or at least thought it) that I truly do not know where these horoscopes come from. Who makes this stuff up?

First of all my attitude today is anything but upbeat (someone may have crapped in my cereal this morning and maybe yesterday too). If I am not upbeat then I probably do not have much in the form of postive energy, All I can hope is that no one I am around today picks up what I have from me. I do have to go out later today so I am lucky--I get to spread this joyful disposition around to others. Maybe the impact will not be as dismal as I am assuming it will be.

So there it is, the daily Sagittarius horoscope for what it is worth and my two cents about it.. Have a great day! If you are having a birthday this month, Happy Birthday!

This week in history was a busy one in Entertainment News as this list shows:

November 27, 1967 - Capitol Records released the Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour" album in the U.S.

On today’s date:

November 28, 1944 - The MGM movie musical "Meet Me in St. Louis," starring Judy Garland opened in New York. (Judy Garland is probably most remembered for her part in The Wizard of Oz).

November 28, 1964 - Willie Nelson made his debut on the Grand Ole Opry.

November 28, 1974 - Elton John and John Lennon sang a duet of "I Saw Her Standing There" at Madison Square Garden in New York. The show was John Lennon's last stage appearance.

Continuing on through the week we have the following events:

November 29, 1979 - The original four members of KISS performed their last show together until 1996 when they reunited for a makeup tour.

December 1, 1982 - Epic Records released the album "Thriller" by Michael Jackson.

Then one year later:

December 2, 1983 - MTV aired Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video for the first time.

Are there any Shania Twain fans reading this list?
This one is for you:

December 2, 1998 - Shania Twain's video "That Don't Impress Me Much" debuted on CMT - Country Music Television.

Remember the Monkeys?
They are in this weeks entertainment news as well:

December 3, 1966 - The first Monkeys concert was held, in Honolulu, HI.

December 3, 1968 - Elvis Presley's NBC-TV special "Elvis" was aired.

This is the list for events happening this week in entertainment history. There are many happenings on here that I remember (not that I am trying to date myself). By the time I was done this list I was feeling quite nostalgic.
However, I did get some time to read up on some of the news.

According to Environment Canada the weather will be harder to predict this winter. It seems that it will be a colder winter due to La Nina-El Ninos lesser known counterpart.
Read story here

Also in the news: Scientists claim they have found the cheapest meal coming in at just 12 cents Canadian. You have to read this to believe what the meal is.
Read story here

I also found this link to some amazing pictures that I wanted to share today:
In my web travels today I came across this horrible headline that just made me sick: Boy 13 charged with rape of 5 yr old at McDonalds.

Correct me if I am wrong but do the ages here bother anyone other then me. It seems as though people who commit crimes are getting younger and that the people who are visited by crime are also getting younger.

What is happening in our society? Do 13 year old children have nothing better to do then go around hurting babies? A five year old child should not have to be subjected to this type of treatment while enjoying some play time at McDonalds. Maybe McDonalds will have to hire a guard to stand at the play areas and supervise the children at play, or maybe there should be an age limit set so that only very young children are allowed to play here.

I remember when my daughter was young I felt safe letting her play in these play areas while I ordered our meal or while I was enjoying the last of my coffee before heading on our way. As parents we may not be able to allow our children to play at the McDonalds play areas any more without some type of supervision.

It is true that today is not a day that is filled with a lot of energy. Hopefully in a day or two that will change.

Saturday, Nov 12th, 2011 -- Everyone appears more interesting today, but your connections with others may be limited to a superficial basis. Although you're fully capable of building profound relationships, it's more fun now to drop in and out of a discussion as your attention waxes and wanes. Don't judge yourself harshly if your energy is scattered because you'll have plenty of time to dig deeper in a few days.
Has anyone heard of Laughter Yoga?
Well last week I attended a Laughter Yoga class. It was great getting out and having a laugh.

Laughter Yoga is simple and profound. It combines an exercise routine, with yogic breathing and unconditional laughter. During the class we were given some information about laughter and how it helps maintain good health, both physical and mental. Did you know that the body and brain has no way of telling the difference between fake laughter and real laughter?
that laugher can help rebuild the connections that we may lose over time in the right side of our brains (the creative side)?

Doing laughter yoga was a very interesting way to spend an hour in the evening experiencing laughter and all its health benefits. I also met some new people which was an added benefit.

Rooney became known, and mocked for, musing aloud about the mundane, but he addressed weightier subjects too, such as the Iraq War. ("So far almost 2,800 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq," Rooney said in a 2006 piece. "And for what?")

In 1990, Rooney served a one-month suspension from 60 Minutes for an alleged racist remark made as he defended a homophobic remark. In 1994, he took
Kurt Cobain to task days after the Nirvana rocker was found dead: "This picture shows him in a pair of jeans with a hole in the knee. I doubt that Kurt Cobain ever did enough work to wear a hole in his pants." In 2004, he called Mel Gibson and televangelist Pat Robertson "wackos."

Rooney withstood both controversy and competition, including 60 Minutes' brief flirtation in the 1990s with a trio of rival commentators.

MORE: Andy Rooney Hospitalized for Complications After Surgery

"There's nobody like Andy, and there never will be," CBS News chairman and 60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager said upon Rooney's retirement.

In his final commentary, aired Oct. 2, 2011, Rooney conceded that he'd done "a lot of complaining."

"But of all the things I've complained about," he said, "I can't complain about my life."

As for what Rooney thought of himself as? He thought of himself as a writer.

MORE: Five Mysterious Hollywood Deaths

Following news of Rooney's death, his colleagues shared their condolences over the loss of the cultural icon.

"It's a sad day at 60 Minutes and for everybody here at CBS News," Fager said in a statement.
"It's hard to imagine not having Andy around. He loved his life and he lived it on his own terms. We will miss him very much."

And that wasn't all.

"Words cannot adequately express Andy's contribution to the world of journalism and the impact he made—as a colleague and friend—upon everyone at CBS," Leslie Moonves, president and CEO of CBS Corporation, said.

"His wry wit, his unique ability to capture the essence of any issue, and his larger-than-life personality made him an icon, not only within the industry but among readers and viewers around the globe. Andy was not just a member of the CBS family; he was a member of the world's family. We treasure the legacy he has left, and his presence will be sorely missed by those of us at CBS and by his fans around the world."
He and his new bride have been seen around Paris honeymooning. It appears as though Robin can not keep his hands off his new bride.

Robin Williams is one of my favorite comedians and actors. I just love to watch him on stage or in films. I have a clip of one of his routines I would like to share with you from his Weapons of Self Destruction video.

The Babbling Brook

As I sit here listening to the sound of

The babbling brook as it passes.

I wonder,

What must that babbling brook think of those

Of us who race around distracted

Day in and day out

Never taking the time

To listen,

To the sound

Of the babbling brook as it passes?

Maybe the babbling brook is trying to

Tell us

Slow down, do not miss

The sound of the babbling brook as it passes.

I wonder,

Have I slowed down enough
To listen?

s day or change their attitude even a fraction?
I think you know the answer here--one small act of kindness. We are living in very stressful times and now is the time for all of us to take a look at how we relate to one another. To be kind means to be considerate. How can we be kind or considerate of others?
Does it take a great deal of our time to be kind?
No, not at all. All it takes is one small act of kindness.

One small or random act of kindness we can perform is to let someone in line ahead of us. This is especially nice when we are in line at the grocery store and the person behind us only has a few items, while we have a huge number of items. Another small act of kindness would be offering to cook a meal for an elderly neighbour. We can volunteer at a homeless shelter or church shelter. If we know someone in our neighbourhood who is a shut-in or has trouble getting out, why not offer them a ride to their next appointment, if not this then drop by one day for a coffee and visit for a bit. This can bring an enormous amount of pleasure to a shut-ins day! One more small or random act of kindness we can do may be to bring flowers to someone who may be having an off day. One may even want to do this anonymously to really heighten the surprise. While we are out walking why not stop and pick up trash that is left lying around on the ground and place it in a nearby waste basket. This goes along way to brightening up the neighbourhood!

These are just some of the small acts of kindness one can do each day, if not each day then why not try doing one or two of these one day a week. They do not take up a lot of time to do but we most certainly will reap a great deal of pleasure from doing even one of them. I have only scratched the surface of the small or random acts of kindnesses we can perform. Can you think of any other small acts of kindness that you could carry out?

This is a copy of an article that I posted on Triond some time ago. I decided to update it a little and repost it here. I will post a link to the original article at the bottom of this post for anyone interested in taking a look at it.

I was browsing through some news stories today and came across two stories with video clips showing acts of kindness and the first clip explains how acts of kindness can pay off in many ways the second one shows bystanders lending a hand to free a little boy from under a car.

You can bet that there is definitely something else going on with me today. As far as self-expression is concerned today I will just bet that there are those today who really wish that I had not expressed myself quite so clearly (hubby and I had a bit of an argument earlier this morning and I said a lot more than normal). Maybe the idea of going for a walk or to the gym is a good idea to put into practice to really burn off the bad mood that seems to be inspiring me today, or should I say the high-frequency state of excitement. So here is the daily horoscope for Sagittarius today followed by the link to it:

Monday, Oct 10th, 2011 -- You are in a high-frequency state of excitement, but some of your intensity is less than apparent. With Venus now in your 12th House of Secrets, there may be more going on than is stated in today's subject line. But your self-expression is irrepressible, spurring you to find ways to work off some of your excess energy. Hitting the gym or taking a long walk may be an ideal way to get your mojo flowing and things moving in the right direction.
When waiting for forgiveness we need to exercise patience. Forgiveness will come eventually. We need to first forgive ourselves before others will be able to offer us forgiveness. We must not be too hard on ourselves. As long as we know that we are remorseful and that we are striving each day to not make the same mistake we can be sure that at some point we will be forgiven. However, it may not be today or tomorrow. Patience can be our strength throughout the forgiveness process.

I have been needing a new bra (at least one) for some time now and because of my mobility issues I do not get much time to actually get out and shop. I have tried to order bras online or through the catalogue, but I never seem to be able to get my size (always unavailable for shipping). So I decided to try out a shop I had been hearing advertisements for on the radio. Busted Ladies Lingerie, or Busted Lingerie Ltd., which is how they are listed in the phone book and at the store itself.

Busted Ladies Lingerie offers the unique experience of having a professional bra fitting so that one may get their correct size and be comfortable. Well what they say they offer is quite different from what I got. I had told them the bra size I was already wearing and that I thought it was too small for me (had probably had been too small already when first purchased). That did not phase the store clerk at all. She immediately brought me a bra that was two sizes smaller than the one I had on. Really?
?
I tell you I have on a bra that I believe is already too small for me and you bring me something smaller to try on. I once again told the store clerk the size of bra I was wearing and she then brought me back a bra that was the same size I had on only the cup size was enormous (much bigger than myself).

At this point I must tell you that they at no time took any measurements, although I had done one myself at home I was not sure how correct my methods may have been. There was no tape measure involved in the professional bra fitting that I got. Their idea of a professional fitting was to just bring you whatever they thought might fit and you got to try it on to see if they were correct in their guessing game. As you can possibly guess, I quickly tired of their guessing game. I also want to point out, for those who don’t know, that I use a walker to get around so getting around is not generally that easy for me, then again, neither is standing in a fitting room trying on garments that the store clerk must have known would not fit.

My trip to Busted Ladies Lingerie, or Busted Lingerie Ltd. (same store) was a bust (no pun intended). I will not go there again and am not sure I will try any bra boutique. I am not sure that the service in these places is anything unique or something special above any other department store. This experience has left me with a big question. What happened to the professional bra fitting experience Busted Ladies Lingerie offer in their advertisements?
