A l’époque, pas si lointaine, un tel voyage nous semblait difficilement réalisable mais après des heures de recherche sur la toile, nous décidons de partir : ce sera pour le mois d’août.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; border-collapse: collapse;font-size:13px;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;Vous imaginez bien qu’à la vingtaine fraichement passée nous ne roulons pas sur l’or et nous orientons donc naturellement vers un voyage « low cost ». Au programme, pates jusqu’au mois d’août et petits jobs.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; border-collapse: collapse;font-size:13px;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;La première démarche a été de fixer des dates et de contacter les clubs sur place afin d’avoir une idée de la formule à adopter pour louer l’avion en fonction du nombre d’heure que nous comptions faire, du nombre de jours de location de l’appareil ainsi que des performances mini que nous sommes fixées. Enfin vient la réservation de l’avion et du billet d’avion pour la Californie… pas des moindre !&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; border-collapse: collapse;font-size:13px;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; border-collapse: collapse;font-size:13px;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;Il a ensuite fallu faire authentifier nos licences françaises auprès de la FAA. Cela prend quelques semaines voir quelques mois alors il vaut mieux s’y prendre à l’avance. Rien de compliqué pour autant, il suffit de contacter la DGAC qui, de son côté, contacte la FAA. En dernier lieu, la FAA vous invite à prendre rendez-vous dans un des nombreux FSDO aux Etats-Unis afin de finaliser la conversion. Pas de vol de test nécessaire, Il suffit simplement ensuite de partir se faire lâcher sur une machine dans un club (ou école ici)… et volez jeunesse ! Pas de doute, nous sommes aux Etats-Unis d’Amérique.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; border-collapse: collapse;font-size:13px;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;S’en suivent de nombreuses réunions pour la définition exacte du tracé, chose qui nous a pris des heures, guide du routard à la main (nous avons également utilisé Google Earth et le très utile site &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://skyvector.com/" style="color: rgb(42, 93, 176);" target="_blank"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;skyvector.com&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;). Nous mettons donc en place un emploi du temps optimisé au maximum pour voir le plus de choses possible tout en prenant notre temps et en se laissant un peu de marge en cas de mauvaise météo. Nous avions également acheté les fameuses sectional charts et autres cartes afin de préparer quelques navs en avance depuis Paris.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; border-collapse: collapse;font-size:13px;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; border-collapse: collapse;font-size:13px;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;Enfin, nous avions effectué quelques vols dans la région parisienne en phraséologie anglaise afin de se jauger. N’ayant pas le FCL 1.028 il s’agissait là d’une nouvelle expérience pour nous, et comme beaucoup d’autres c’était ce qui nous faisait stresser ! Encore une fois internet nous a sorti un peu la tête de l’eau en faisant beaucoup d’écoute de bande sur LiveATC et en regardant des vidéos sur le sujet. Il est certain qu’il faille s’entrainer car dès le premier contact avec « Socal Approach » ou « LA Centre » ça ne blague pas, et les fréquences partent en rafale. Nous avions la chance d’avoir trois paires d’oreilles à bord, et cela n’a jamais été de trop.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; border-collapse: collapse;font-size:13px;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; border-collapse: collapse;font-size:13px;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;Après quelques mois d’une cruelle attente, nous prirent notre envol dans les cieux de la Californie le 12 Août 2009 et ce durant 3 semaines absolument fabuleuses. La diversité des paysages et la richesse de chaque région contribuèrent pleinement au succès de notre périple. Nous devons avouer que nous n’avons pas manqué de chance au niveau de la météo ce qui, forcément, donne une toute autre dimension à un tel voyage.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; border-collapse: collapse;font-size:13px;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;Pour conclure, il s’agit là d’une véritable aventure hors du commun, d’une aviation bien différente de la culture aéronautique européenne mais à la portée de tout pilote motivé et passionné. Un voyage que nous avons partagé entre amis et que nous ne pourrons jamais oublier.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; border-collapse: collapse;font-size:13px;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sur ce, bons vols et &lt;/span&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"  style="font-family:inherit;"&gt;fly safe !&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"  style="margin: 0px; En arrivant à Roissy nous ne cachons pas notre excitation et chacun avoue qu'il n'a pas fermé l'oeil de la nuit. Nous ne sommes que deux car Greg nous rejoint demain à Los Angeles (LAX) par un vol direct.&lt;br /&gt;Quant à nous, notre premier vol nous emmène à JFK puis direction San Francisco (SFO). Une longue journée devant nous.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Quelques minutes avant l'embarquement dans le sublime 777-300ER F-GSQM d'Air France, nous recevons un coup de fil de notre pote Alex qui bosse au sol: "j'arrive pour vous dire au revoir!". Aussitôt dit, aussitôt fait! Alex nous rejoint donc en porte K01 et parvient même à monter en salle d'embarquement. Super rencontre à quelques minutes début officiel de voyage. Ca commence bien!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dernier au revoir à Alex par le hublot pendant le roulage, et les quelques centaines de tonnes de notre appareil quittent le sol parisien... C'est parti!&lt;br /&gt;Une vingtaine d'heures et une grise escale à New York plus tard, nous touchons en douceur sur la piste 28R de l'aéroport International de San Francisco dans une lueur de fin du monde.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;La nuit tombe rapidement et nous nous dépêchons de louer la voiture et de partir à San Jose pour y passer la nuit. Les 8 heures de décalage horaire se font sérieusement ressentir. Le rendez-vous au FSDO n'est qu'à 10h, il va falloir tuer le temps. Nous sortons de notre sublime suite au Motel 6 et découvrons avec joie un temps magnifique. Sur le parking, nous croisons la première voiture des "cops" américains, comme dans les films. Il y a des signes comme ça qui ne trompent pas.&lt;br /&gt;Sans trop attendre, nous prenons un café et filons en direction de l'aéroport San Jose Mineta SJC afin de prendre notre petit dej au seuil de piste. Le personnel de la FAA, très accueillant, ne nous a pas du tout embêté mais nous a tout de même rappelé les principes de base du vol aux US (Don't fly above the White House en résumé) et surtout les quelques différences avec la règlementation européenne.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rassurés, nous filons donc rejoindre la fameuse Freeway 101 direction Los Angeles pour aller chercher Greg qui arrive dans quelques heures. En repassant au niveau du seuil de piste en voiture, nous nous arrêtons une dernière fois pour regarder les lumières des jets parfaitement alignés sur l'ILS.&lt;br /&gt;Aller on y va... bon ok, après le Global Express! Il ne faut pas trop s'éloigner car Flo arrive par le vol suivant. Nous allons donc nous poster au très célèbre In-N-Out Burger situé en bout des pistes nord. Au moins d'ici, on devrait pas le louper!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Et quelques 747 plus tard c'est l'explosion de joie lorsque nous apercevons le code barre d'Air France sur le 777-200ER qui approche majestueusement toutes trainées sorties. F-GSPC, c'est sûr, c'est lui! Euphoriques, nous nous empressons de rejoindre notre copain au terminal pendant que la bête roule jusqu'à sa porte. Une fois Flo embarqué, nous retournons au In-N-Out afin cette fois ci d'y déguster le délicieux "Double Double" (ça commence mal...) autour d'une table de copains en plein air. Nous discutons organisation au rythme des arrivées des liners, et nous ne sommes pas les seuls intrigués.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Changement de voiture, la file d'attente est longue chez le loueur en plein mois d'août alors Greg en profite pour installer un QG provisoire afin de mettre à jour le blog, Google Latitude et de nous trouver un hôtel pour la nuit... Nous embarquons dans notre "mini bus" (V6 essence de 7 places, permis poids lourd de rigueur, l'écologie version US en somme) en direction du Corona Municipal Airport, KAJO pour les intimes, pour enfin découvrir la bête qui nous attend: un Cessna 172RG avec lequel doit se dérouler le voyage.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Il n'est que 7h quand nous arrivons au terrain qui est désert à part un vieux 172 qui fait son tour de piste matinal. Nous en profitons alors pour observer le lever du soleil derrière une fine couche de brume ainsi que les différents appareils qui se trouvent sur le parking. Le spectacle est splendide. Nous passons devant le club pour essayer d'apercevoir notre RG mais pas de trace du monomoteur... Il doit être dans un hangar.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Peu avant l'ouverture du club, nous posons tous ensemble devant le minibus pour la première photo de groupe du voyage: Guillaume, Florian, Grégoire et Olivier. (De gauche à droite)&lt;br /&gt;Malheureusement, Flo ne fera pas parti de l'équipage du Skyhawk préférant le comfort de la ligne pour nous rejoindre à San Francisco. Nous nous sommes mentalement préparé avec Grégoire à prendre une petite claque, entre la machine à apprivoiser et la radio, il va falloir être en forme. En rentrant dans le club house, on nous annonce un première mauvaise nouvelle: l'avion est en maintenance suite à un soucis et ne sera disponible que d'ici une semaine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ne pouvant bien sur pas attendre ce labs de temps, nous nous rabattons sur le C172N N75739 de 160ch, faute de mieux. Cela change la donne car nous devions voler plus vite et avoir de meilleures perfos. Ici les perfos sont importantes car nous avons prévu de nous poser sur des terrains jusqu'à 7000ft du coté de Yosemite et Grand Canyon, et aux vues des températures dans la région ça risque d'être sportif!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bref, nous décollons donc Grégoire et moi pour notre lâché tandis que Flo et Guillaume vont visiter le musée de l'air de Chino.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Le checkride se déroule parfaitement pour nous. Greg commence (cela avait été tiré à pile ou face!!) par décoller de Corona en direction de French Valley qui est un terrain en auto-info en passant avec Socal Approach pour le Flight Following. Deux tours de piste suffisent, il faut avouer qu'on a chacun déjà une centaine d'heure sur la machine, ça aide.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Je m'installe en place gauche et mets en route à mon tour, direction Reverside (Classe D) via Socal Approach encore. Le vol se passe tres bien et nous rentrons sur Corona que nous atteignons rapidement.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Well! You guys are good to go!". Nous n'en revenons pas, 55 minutes de vol chacun et nous voilà lâchés seuls aux US? Eh bien oui!! Rassurez vous, nous ne faisions pas les fiers loin de là, nous posons de nombreuses questions concernant la règlementation ainsi que la lecture des cartes à notre jeune instructeur avant de se sentir assez à l'aise pour partir. De toute façon, nous n'avons prévu de partir que demain, alors nous laisserons tout ça murir aujourd'hui et préparerons soigneusement notre nav de demain.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Flo et Guillaume nous rejoignent enfin au terrain, aussi étonnés que nous que ce soit déjà terminé! Nous grimpons à bord du minibus et filons sur la freeway 91 en direction de Redondo Beach près de Los Angeles, endroit connu pour avoir abrité le tournage de la série "The OC - Newport Beach". Aventuriers, nous préparons soigneusement notre machine ainsi que notre navigation vers San Luis Obispo puis Oakland Metropolitan, ce qui prendra environ 4h30 avec une météo très favorable aujourd'hui. Il va cependant falloir se méfier des nombreux TFR's (Temporary Flight Restriction) dans la région de Los Angeles qui sont dûs aux feux de forêt qui sévissent un peu partout avec cette chaleur.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Fiers, nous posons une dernière fois ("avant de perdre notre licence" dit Greg en deconnant) devant l'avion avant de partir. Maintenant c'est parti pour de bon. Quelques secondes plus tard nous sommes en contact avec Socal sous Flight Following (suivi de vol) et il n'y a plus qu'à attendre que ça sèche comme on dit. Le contrôleur nous fait contacter les différents secteurs et nous n'avons à nous occuper que de la navigation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nous montons lentement jusqu'à 8500ft (l'altitude de transition est de 18000ft aux US) et suivons notre track sur le GPS tout en surveillant notre avancement sur la sectional chart au dessus des rocheuses.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;L'atmosphère devient de plus en plus brumeux. "Qu'est-ce que tu penses de la visibilité Grégoire?" "Bah écoute elle est parfaite!" me répond t-il encore une fois avec humour. Soudain le contrôleur de "LA Center" nous appelle et nous signale que nous nous dirigeons en plein vers le foyer principal du feu. Gentilment, il nous propose un "radar vectoring" afin d'éviter la zone à risque et nous fait descendre à une altitude où la visibilité est meilleure. L'accueil est royal, nous nous voyons offert une "Straight in approach runway 29". Nous briefons rapidement l'arrivée: nous dégagerons à droite sur Foxtrot; et Greg collationne fièrement notre premier "Cleared to land" du voyage. A l'arrondi je me fais surprendre par l'effet de sol. Agacé et voyant arriver la bretelle Foxtrot à grands pas, je pose l'avion en ronchonant et freine énergiquement. Le concours de kiss landing commence mal pour moi!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Il est midi passé et nous sommes affamés après plus de deux heures de vol. Nous otpons donc pour le resto du terrain avec vue sur la piste. Il fait une chaleur épouvantable alors ce sera la clim pour nous ainsi qu'un plane Burger ("Just a big burger" sur la carte!). Encore un repas au rythme du décollage des jets. Au final, l'hélico dépose un soldat et repart, encore un exemple d'économie et surtout d'écologie version US. Traversera, traversera pas la classe C de San Jose? On verra bien ce que nous propose le contrôle.&lt;br /&gt;Alignement et décollage de la 29 puis contact avec Norcal et c'est parti pour 200NM de cheminement le long de la Freeway 101 que nous avons empreinté pour descendre à LA il y a quelques jours. Guillaume et moi nous amusons à tenter de reconnaître certains endroits tandis que Greg pilote. Calme de courte durée. Soudain, quelques minutes après avoir survolé le terrain de Salinas, tout s'accélère. Nous changeons de fréquence et la baie gigantesque apparaît derrière une crête. La pression remonte d'un seul coup, les fréquences s'enchaînent et l'approche de San Jose nous fait gentilment dégager de son espace aérien en nous vectorant à l'est des installations.&lt;br /&gt;Enfin, après s'être un peu battu avec le contrôle pour obtenir un "Resume own navigation", (il nous avait oublié avec tous ces liners!) nous contactons Oakland Tower et sommes encore autorisés à une "straight in approach runway 27R". Nous ne pouvions pas rêver mieux. En cette fin d'après midi le Soleil décline sur l'horizon et la vue en courte finale est à couper le souffle.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Aller, 3 jours OFF à San Francisco pour nous en remettre! &lt;/span&gt; &lt;span class="apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;Je crois me souvenir que ce gros stade à l'américaine est un point de la trajectoire antibruit d'Oakland (Noise Abatment Procedure). Il ne faudra pas qu'on oublie de regarder ça avec Olivier à la préparation du prochain vol. Je serai le "radio" de la prochaine étape et je ne tiens pas à mettre de mauvaise humeur notre futur ami contrôleur.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Heureusement, Olivier avait prévu le coup avant le départ en emportant un tube de Biafine qui nous sera bien utile.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;Ayant loués les vélos pour 24 heures, nous avons jusqu'en fin de matinée avant de les rendre. Nous décidons de profiter de ces dernières heures. Levés 6 am, c'est dans les rues désertes de San Francisco que nous respirons l'air frais en direction du Golden Gate Bridge.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;Quelques minutes plus tard, un arrêt s'impose dans le &lt;i&gt;Safeway &lt;/i&gt;le plus proche pour un petit déjeuner de type cookie - brownie. Le soleil se lève doucement pendant que nous savourons nos cookies et les premiers rayons de soleil.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;Le vent souffle fort le long de la bay mais la lumière Californienne ne trahit pas, le spectacle est à la hauteur de nos espérances.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;Peu à peu, l'activité citadine reprend et nous immortalisons ces moments au milieu des joggers et nageurs matinaux à travers quelques photos au pied du GGB.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Greg nous prépare le breifing météo sur l'ordinateur pendant que je trace la navigation de demain sur les nombreuses cartes que nous allons traverser sur le chemin d'Everett, Washington, berceau des usines Boeing. Même Flo apporte sa petite touche en nous cherchant sur un des iPhones des terrains où le fuel n'est pas trop cher. Une superbe cadillac en plein milieu du resto, nous dînons en pensant à notre Bay Tour que nous avons prévu de réaliser demain. Nous en profitons pour envoyer un email à Corona ( Lieu de location de l'avion - Nous les avons tenu au courant de notre périple à travers quelques emails plutôt comiques... ). Un de plus.... Hop les valises sont fermées, le café englouti, nous réglons le motel puis direction la BART Station vers le terrain d'Oakland où nôtre brave machine nous attend depuis 3 jours. Le van du FBO Kaiser passe nous prendre directement à la station, plutôt pratique! En quelques minutes, nous revoilà à l'aéroport. La tension, comme avant chaque vol, commence à monter. La prévol de l'avion est effectuée, le camion nous fait le plein et le soleil pointe déjà le bout de son nez, tout va bien. Nous nous dirigeons vers le Crew Lounge où Greg me rappelle les Noise Abatment Procedures sur un départ 27R. Greg est radio, c'est donc lui qui est chargé de demander la clairance pour le Bay tour et je ne m'en porte pas plus mal! Je n'aurai qu'à profiter de la vue. Vol de nuit vers Seattle, 2h de rêve, la grand ourse veille sur nous pendant le trajet.&lt;br /&gt;
C'est beau, c'est magique.  Le vol de nuit au US: pas de plan de vol, 95% de terrain VFR de nuit, et surtout pas de TAX.&lt;br /&gt;
Pour nous récompenser de nos 8h00 de vol dans la journée, voila le 787 n°2 qui dort sur la Boeing ramp ( le premier 787 commercialisé ne sera en réalité que le numéro N°7 ).&lt;br /&gt;

En Vent arriere piste 31 à Boeing Field nous apercevons très bien Tacoma (KSEA à 3 nm au sud).&lt;br /&gt;
Oui il y a des terrains partout ici.&lt;br /&gt;
