BLOGBUZZ: THE SICKLE CELL AID FOUNDATION STARTS IT’S 'KNOW YOUR GENOTYPE' CAMPAIGN

This Saturday, the Sickle Cell Aid Foundation (SCAF) will start it's Know Your Genotype (KYG) campaign in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja. The first of a free genotype testing campaign across the area councils of Abuja FCT.

The Sickle Cell Aid Foundation, a registered Non-Governmental Organization, founded June 2010, aims at creating awareness of the Sickle Cell disease, the effect it has on our society, developing measures aimed at limiting and possibly eradicating the complications of this condition.

In line with these aims, SCAF carried out a survey across the whole of Abuja to find out how many people actually know their genotype, which revealed that approximately 25% of persons resident in the F.C.T have never heard of Sickle Cell Anaemia and 46.5% do not know their genotype.

To further prevent further sickle cell patients being borninto this world, SCAF decided it was very necessary to embark on a free genotype testing campaign across Abuja to enlighten and educate the residents of Abuja.

Each month will focus on one area council. For the month of May, the focus will be Bwari Area Council, on the 19th -20th, this weekend. Next up will be Abuja Municipal Area Council in June. Stay Tuned.

RAZOR MARK Texas and Lagos-bred poet and hip hop artist, RazorMarks, is inarguably the most exciting thing going on in Gospel music right now with records that are soul-drenched nostalgic masterpieces. Razor started writing music at the age of ten, after watching a music video from veteran juju artiste, Sunny Ade. This song is very dear to me. I wrote it at a time when I was particularly low. I knew who and what I wanted to be but I was so uncertain about what to do and how to get there. I was bogged down by some of the mistakes I'd made. But then I got a spark about doing the best with the present and not wasting the 'now' on the 'then'. When did you start making music, and for how long now?
ANS: I'll say i started officially with the release of my single,"which one we dey" in 2004,but I've been performing onstage,writing songs and singing back up as far back as 1995,and I've been called "AT" since i was in ss1

Tell us the inspiration behind what you do.
ANS: i sing and write as i feel,if i'm angry,i write an "angry song",if i'm happy,i write a happy song...also from peoples experiences that i can easily relate to.So my themes cut across; from inspirational,to social commentary,to love,and everything in between that an average young guy or girl goes through.

Tell us about the struggles/hustles regular youngsters in naija go through just to be heard.
ANS: its hard,and its getting even harder because its seems to be all about the image these days instead of the skill or talent.and to have a concrete image,you need money and coming from my conservative background,its tough,but not impossible...consistency is key.Another thing is the "bottle-necked vision" to success.for instance a young hopeful sees a tuface and instead of looking at tuface's background,and being inspired by his earlier experiences (i.e,back in the days before music became "cool") ,the youngster is driven by the glamour and glitz of it all.I call today's music "microwave music"...no offense to those doing it from the heart.

Where do u see yourself in say five or ten years..and your inspirations
ANS: honestly,i just want to keep making honest good music and pray there is still an audience who still appreciate real talent and showmanship.I hope to be more of the behind-the-scenes person,writing,producing,and promoting the next-big-things in music.

Is there any quote that describes life to you?
ANS: its a portion of one of Dr.Martin Luther Kings quotes: ''If i can help somebody as i pass along,If i can cheer somebody with a word or song,If i can show someone he's traveling wrong,then my living will not be in vain''.

How receptive/supportive are your family&friends to what you do?
ANS:with all honesty,and like i mentioned earlier,i come from a very conservative background where entertainment is still looked at as frivolous,so as long as i'm not asking anybody for ridiculous amounts of money,they don't mind.

How will you define your personality/your birth star?
ANS: i'm a CLASSIC Libra...CHECK THE TRAITS!

Do you hope to create a niche for yourself and stand out in your field/genre? how do u hope to achieve this?
ANS: by consistently being myself and putting 120% in that regard...

GRIP Boiz are a Jos bred four man ensemble consisting of recording artistes Endia, JMilla, Yung L and producer Chopstix. This new banging tune DASH ME DA TING comes hot on the heels of their feature on Ice Prince's Magician which also featured Jamaican Reggae artiste, Gyptian.

DASH ME sees them partner with fast emerging "Ghana wonder boy" Ghanian 19 year old rap prodigy, Dee Moneey. Dee Money has done a lot of work on his own including a ground breaking collaboration with featuring YMCMB's Lil'twist.

GRIP Boiz in the past have built a reputation from "remaking and killing" various hit songs.DASH ME is a unique blend of Reggae, R&B and Rap.

With such impressive work already under their belt it remains to be seen what next these dynamic young artistes have in store for Nigerian and Ghanian listeners as we can only expect more from these talented artistes.

It's hard not to like the shy Project Fame alumni and lawyer in the making. Lindsey's voice is beautiful, she took us to the 90's with "The 90's song" made us "Drift Away", told us about "The Greatest" with Jesse Jagz and then took us to church with Jehovah (on M.I Abaga's Talk about it album).

The songbird is back with a cover we love. This time she speaks up to the jailer. Here's her lovely version of Asa's award winning song "Jailer" .Guitar by Atta Lenell. She refers to this as an Easter Token. Bless her.
