1. Offer special features that only premium members can use. Charge the premium members $9.95 a month to use the service.
2. Place Google Ads at the bottom of every summary post. This gives you a wide range of keywords with varying Earnings Per Click. And with an average user having 15 feeds you can have several hundred ad impressions through just one user depending on how many feeds he read in a given day.
3. Another way to monetize the site without invading your user’s feeds would be to place Google Ads in the header of the ExtJS feed viewer and at the bottom near the footer.
4. You could use a combination of Google Ads and Text Link Ads. With text link ads your income isn’t based on clicks its based primarily on Google PR and your Alexa rank.

Sorry I haven’t posted in a month, I have been very busy. I am still working with a group here locally on a new jobs site called ENG.com which is taking up some of my time and I am trying to finish up the initial draft application for Alliteration Plus. Anyway…

What if you have an idea which I usually do, but you are totally booked like the list I mentioned above plus a few other things that I didn’t mention. Wouldn’t it be nice to see if your idea had any merit?

Depending on the site you are thinking of building it may take you a couple hundred hours in development time, and then you have to hire out someone to skin it and make the site pretty for you. Not a lot of time there, but there is money spent –unless you skin it yourself which takes even more time. I suck at graphics and I rarely come up with a color palette that looks good –so I don’t do this anymore.

Building a new website like this is a waste of time especially since you have no idea if the site will work or not. Now you may think well if I don’t build it first class and pretty then no one will use it. Not true there were plenty of sites out there that sucked and they made it. In fact even after they made it the sites overall functional flow and look just blew. But it satisfied a need that people had and provided value –so they overlooked the obvious flaws. (I knew some girls like that –you know had obvious flaws but they satisfied a need. Just kidding –or am I?) So my point is that a simple website that performs the unique functions that separate this site from another is all you need to test your idea and determine the sites potential.

So knowing that doesn’t it make a lot more sense to build a web site as plain Jane as possible and get it online? Make it functional and get some backlinks to it, perform some SEO on it and then go back to your other projects. Don’t wait for the result or you will be waiting a while. But at least this way the concept application or website is up there and if it works it works and people will come and do whatever they are suppose to do on that site. As your member base grows you will see your profits grow. Then you can take “new” money and use it to put a face-lift on that web site.

What have you accomplished? Two things: you built a new website quickly, usually in under a week and you have had your web site tested by the market. They will decide whether it’s a good idea or not. If the market likes it, upgrade and optimize it. Then move on to the next one.

See the last one is where I get set back. But in all reality all websites now a days are database driven websites. So all you really have to do is have a database full of content that you can build a website around.

Let’s say you get a database with 30k records. Now you need to plan out what the flow will be and how the users will navigate through your site. Basic site stuff I know, but with a lot of data in the database it will require you to not just dump out the db data on screen but to present it to the users in an organized way so that they can make sense of it.

This is what I have been working on. Last month when I got some money from my other sites,  I bought 9 domains. Then I bought a packaged deal of some databases. This package had about 5 or 6 databases in it. Not bad, since it only cost me $12. I also bought another db package. And there are a lot of people out there selling databases. Be sure to search around or you will pay way too much for the data.

The second db package included a lot of 1,000 miscellaneous databases for $100. Not a bad deal, since most of the db’s had around 60k records each. Oh yeah, I also bought two more -kind of a two for one deal. Total record size of that was 14 million, but it was all the same type of data. So the 14 million would go on one site as opposed to the 1,000 I mentioned.

Ok, so now I have a ton of data and only 9 domains. Well, its only 9 new domains right now. But after I build those I will expand and I have the data to do so.

So back to my original point -I can build a 100,000 page database pretty fast considering the same amount of work will go into building a 100 page site as it would a 100,000 page site. But now I have more site pages that can be indexed into the search engines. And I can put links to other sites on those pages or I can sell links on them.

How many sites do you have? Are you selling links on those sites? Are you using your indexed pages to put links on them to point them to your other more important sites?

Note: I am not an expert on any of this. I’m just relaying some things I have read about marketing and how things are reported to work at this level.

Back to landing pages -I read that most people already want to buy something, they just need the right advertisements to reassure them that what they are buying is a good buy. So marketers reassure consumers, with doctors in white coats in TV ads and online, who the product is approved by, who uses the product, how well it works (perhaps case studies), how popular it is as well as testimonials which are also a good seller.

Letting consumers see the result of the product perhaps a BIG smile on a beautiful man or woman or perhaps together. This gives the impression that if you buy and use said product not only will it whiten your teeth, but you will be beautiful, have a great body and fall in love with someone that is also beautiful.

Who wouldn’t want that? That’s where they want to bring the consumers so it’s almost a "duh" of course I want that. The decision is easy for the consumer then and of course people make money as value is transferred.

If you can reassure a consumer or make him feel good about buying a product, whether the product is good or not, he will buy. So it doesn’t matter whether you are in PPC, SEO or just plain affiliate products off your web site you will still be able to sell to them.

I was getting a lot of link spam and although I could have deleted the comments, I didn’t really want to. So I had to get creative.

Ok, actually I looked around until I found some pieces of javascript code that did what I wanted it to. I had to take three js functions and hook them up together.

In the end no matter what link the user enters in the comments section it will always have the infamous rel=nofollow attached to it.

I know a lot of people don’t like this tag cause it can hose them in their efforts to get good links. But most of those people are the guys sporting some link spam. The old rule still applies. If you have good content and offer something of value you will get a link of value in return. More links = more PR. Just look at Microsoft’s web site (PR 9)! They offer lots of value don’t they? Well, that depends on who you are. Alright, I confess I use XP at work too. But I don’t like it so there!

The real reason I added this to the site was because my page rank dropped from a 6 to a 4, then down to a 2, then 0. FRICKIN ZERO. That’s horse piss! I have excellent internally linking on this site. I have close to 45,000 internal links. Well, dang it hang on I’ll go check to make sure.

Ok, 85,162 pages indexed at yahoo. Only half that at Google -which is still good by comparison. They say if you can get 10%-25% of your content indexed by Google you’re doing good. I’ve got 47,640 inlinks. Now that includes all links. Breaking it down its like: 2,670 incoming links and 44,970 internal links. Not so much on the incoming links. I have to work on that.

So back to my original point. With such sweet internal linking structure I was holding my PR nice at a 6. But then it started dropping off, I didn’t think much of it, but it got worse. I added some nofollow links on the outbound links, but I forgot about the comments.

I login to MySql and check it out -just to see how many I have. I don’t remember the exact count and I don’t feel like opening it back up to check. But it was about 15,000 or so -aw heck I’ll go look dang it. Hang on. Total comment count is 15,150 BooYa! What a memory. haha. So yeah, after closer inspection there where like 85% of the comments had links in them. Hmm, so let me do the math. (carry the one…..) Ok, that’s like 12,877.5 outbound links. Wait did I just write a half link? Dang, that would be cool. Anyway… So duh moron. Yeah, no wonder I lost all my freakin PR. Stupid poser link spammers. Not any more though.

Lesson learned. Money lost, lot of money lost. I sell links, and with a higher PR I could have been banking more green. Dang It!!!

I always had to go into Wordpress and take off the visual editor because it always hosed up my code and other formatting. With FckEditor its a breeze to copy and paste articles, if that’s what you’re doing -PRL Blog . Or for me I just needed it to format my posts better. Ok, so I was doing some PLR stuff -so what.

For those that don’t know about FckEditor you can full screen the editor while you’re typing so it’s almost like using MS Word. Kinda cool. Oh, yeah and if you need to tweak the source you can always do so, with that freakin huge ‘SOURCE’ button at the top right of FckEditor.

So get it and use it. It helps and makes blogging a little less painfull.

There are many things that I have read that I want to try, but for the most part I am still trying to process all the articles I’ve read.

In fact the process behind building a website and marketing it for myself was all wrong. Most people build a site and then market it via SEO, article marketing, link exchanges or on the rare occassion they’ll use PPC if they are moderately good at PPC. And when I say moderately good at PPC I mean they at least break even over a given month, plus a little extra.

Anyway, I’ll talk more later about what I am doing. I’ve got to go. My kid is in the tub and I have to get him out before he craps in it.

I read a post where one guy was upset because he was only making $1,000 – $2,000 a day compared to a guy that was making $23,000 a day.

Myself, I’m still too much of a chicken to get into AM with PPC. It takes a while to get up to speed and learn everything from what I have read. You need to spend enough time in it to fail and learn from your mistakes to get the feel of it and to know what works and what processes you need to take.

But if you have the cash and can stomach it, it will definitely pay in the long run. A friend of mine is pursuing it and he is already making a profit of triple digits after his 3rd or 4th week. Not a lot, but not bad either.

I found this absolutely smokin’ niche that looks like its got close to no competition. Oh yeah, and it gets like 74,000 searches on Google each month. Nice! So I’m going to work my magic and see if I can get a site up.

I’ll offer the user’s two of whatever I am asking for. So if I want x, I will give them two bonuses or freebies specific to that niche. That should help me get what I need and help them at the same time. Plus with that much traffic you know I could get some sweet affiliate cash from that.

Oh, and since I don’t have the site up yet, I went ahead and secured a domain and created the account on my Virtual Private Server (VPS). I use Liquid Web -they are super great! But the site itself isn’t up and working -so I put up my “Coming Soon” app to grab emails while I’m building it.

It would be nice to have it completed in a week, but I’ve got other commitments as well my awesome day job that absolutely rocks ICE! But, hey I’m working on it right? We all are. So press on people -success is just around the corner.
