Our stated goals are: for all students to be college and career ready upon graduation from Sonoma Valley High School; for all students to arrive at the high school... SVUSD <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>As many of you are aware, we have a District Strategic Plan that lays out very specific expectations for our students.&nbsp; Our stated goals are: for all students to be college and career ready upon graduation from Sonoma Valley High School; for all students to arrive at the high school prepared for college prep courses; for all students to be proficient in English by the sixth grade; for all students to be reading at grade level by the end of third grade; and for all children to have access to a quality pre-school experience. The purpose of the Strategic Plan is to serve as a road map to ensure that our schools can achieve these goals.</p> <p>Every 3-5 years, we update our Strategic Plan and we are now in the process of developing a steering committee, consisting of District personnel and community members to help define and guide the process.&nbsp; The primary roles of the strategic planning steering committee are to ensure that the process is as inclusive as possible, and that the key priorities of the district are identified.&nbsp;The steering committee will meet during the next four months to assist in the development of the plan and in early fall, I will present the updated Strategic Plan to the school board for approval.&nbsp;</p> <p>That being said, it is very important to me that we have a process that is open, rigorous, and unafraid as we all work together to do what is best for our students and our District. We are going to do everything possible to obtain input from all stakeholder groups involved with the District or the community, and we will use surveys and focus groups to do so.&nbsp; We expect that one outcome of the strategic planning process will be a clearer understanding of how the community can support the District’s goals.&nbsp;</p> <p>My hope is that this process will result in a plan that is inspirational, well-understood, functional, and usable by every single person in the District.&nbsp; This is not about producing a “big binder” and crossing a project off of a to-do list:&nbsp; It is about assessing where we are against current goals, what we have left to do, and what other goals are important to us in the next 3-5 years.</p> <p>I have asked all of our teachers and staff for their input and feedback.&nbsp;During the week of March 12, all interested staff will be surveyed and prior to that we will ask all interested parents to be surveyed as well.&nbsp; Parents will be asked to take a survey between March 5-16.&nbsp; More detailed instructions about the parent survey will be disseminated through the schools.&nbsp;</p> <p>I will keep you up-to-date on the process as it unfolds in the coming months.
