We all love hanging out with our friends.. As children it was play dates, then extra curricular activities, going to the park, movies, the mall, then it was weekend parties in college, dinners with other couples, family vacations together and just having a good cup of coffee with a girlfriend.

All of this is great. Love spending good times together. When there are good times. But what do we do when times get tough?

What do we do when a friend is not well? Are we there for them?

How do we teach our children that friendship is not only for the good times. It is also for the times when the water gets rough.

Recently there have been viruses going around in my daughters class. Some of the kids have been off school for over a week.

One of her good friends was sick. I asked MJ how Sivan is. She told me she didn't know because she wasn't at school.

We sat done and had a chat. We talked about what it feels like when you don't feel well and you are at home. We talked about what it would feel like if you didn't see you close friends for a whole week. Or go to the park to play for a week. all of her answers were what I expected. Bottom line lonely.

Do you want your friend to feel this way?
No mommy.

So what can we do about it?

MJ quickly came up with some great ideas. First she went to the computer and wrote a letter to her friend telling her what was new in school. Then she drew a picture for her with beautiful flowers and asked me if I could take a picture of it and send it together by email to her house. (kids are little techies). After doing this she said now I am going to call her and tell her she has a surprise waiting for her on the computer.

She called her friend. I listened in.

I told MJ that I think she made her friend feel much better.

An hour later Sivan mom called and thanked me.Sivan was feeling very lonely and MJ's surprise, letter and call really cheered her up.

I am sure that Sivan will do something similar next time one of her friends is not feeling well or sad.

We must pass it forward.
To teach our children to be good kind and caring human beings. We must show them how to be good friends by example.
Remember they watch and learn from us.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is about love, life, friendship

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara opens with a scene in which a young man is on his knees, proposing to a girl he has known for no more than six months. The film ends with three buddies on the run from the bulls of Pamplona in an affirmation of freedom from all baggage, professional, emotional and social. It can happen only in Spain.

Kabir (Abhay Deol), the young son of a construction tycoon, is engaged to an interior designer, Natasha (Kalki Koechlin). “I construct buildings and you design interiors, we are perfect,” the scion tells his would-be wife. The wedding date is promptly fixed.

To celebrate the impending end of his bachelor status, Kabir and his two best friends, free-spirited advertising copywriter Imran (Farhan Akhtar) and workaholic financial broker Arjun (Hrithik Roshan), embark on an extended road trip through Spain.

It turns out to be an outing of a lifetime as the three men confront the past, negotiate the present and carve out a new future. They are helped along by a lively half-Indian, half-British girl Laila (Katrina Kaif), who they meet on a beach in Costa Brava. She turns out to be their deep sea diving instructor. Laila believes that a man should be in a box only when he is dead.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has a simple enough narrative core that revolves around the three male protagonists seeking to breakfree from the confines of their respective boxes. Their struggles yield many charming moments although one cannot avoid the sneaking suspicion that this cheerful ode to life, love and friendship is as much about telling a story as about a selling a country to prospective tourists.

Be that as it may, there can be no denying that Spain is a marvellous country and, thanks to Carlos Catalan’s fluid camerawork, it looks absolutely stunning on screen. The beauty of the land disarms you and you cannot but go along with the flow of this rather heady ride despite the occasional bumps on the way.

The screenplay, authored by Reema Kagti and director Zoya Akhtar, manages to stay on course all the way through to the end although narrative pace isn’t what it strives for. Even as the three friends indulge in constant banter – witty one-liners and poker-faced non-sequiturs are liberally tossed around – and play pranks on strangers and on each other, they have serious emotional issues to settle and many ingrained fears and doubts to overcome.

Arjun has a fear of the deep, Imran freezes at the very thought of jumping from an airborne chopper and Kabir has no appetite for being gored by a bull. But they are bound by an agreement sealed between the friends at the very outset of the voyage of discovery. So they are compelled to deal with their phobias and surmount them in acts of inner defiance that alter their lives forever.

The “seize the day” philosophy that underlines the film is old as the hills. Yet Zoya Akhtar, by investing the tale with a delightful lightness of touch and dollops of gentle wit, brings a degree of freshness to bear upon the plot.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara does exude pronounced traces of the spirit of Dil Chahta Hai, but its essential rhythm is its own, stemming from the dynamics of a full-fledged road movie shot through with intelligence, emotion and, above all, humanism.

The adventures that the three men encounter – deep sea diving in Costa Brava, a tomato fight in Bunol, sky diving in Sevilla and, finally, the San Fermin Bull Run in Pamplona – are catalysts that bring out the best in them. As physical metaphors for liberation of the spirit, they are seamlessly integrated into the storyline for the most part.

The understated, youthful ambience of the film allows the actors to be their own selves and they all do it without a hitch. The high points: the infectious Senorita number and the single-scene special appearance by Naseeruddin Shah. As always, he sets the benchmark.

Angry Birds Movie Begins To Take Shape

Development for an Angry Birds movie is being hatched with the help of a former Marvel Studios executive, but the movie won't be hitting multiplexes until 2014 at the earliest.

Rovio, the creator of Angry Birds, hired former Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel as a special adviser last week. Maisel, who left Marvel in 2009 after Walt Disney Co. bought the studio for $4 billion, will be executive producer on the yet-untitled flick.

“There has been so much chatter about an Angry Birds movie, but now it’s real,” Maisel told. “The process is starting now.” Maisel was at Marvel from 2003 to 2009, and executive produced Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger.

Bringing Maisel on is Rovio’s latest steps toward expanding its Angry Birds franchise into feature films. Last month, the company bought Finnish animation studio Kombo, which will start working on short films using the Angry Birds characters. The development of a full-length movie, however, will take three or four years, Peter Vesterbacka, Rovio's chief marketing officer, told The Telegraph last month. Vesterbacka said Rovio is open to working with Hollywood studios, but added, "We don’t have to do what everyone else is

Facebook Introducing New Look To Profile Page

Facebook – The social networking site has been introducing new products – one after the next – with the goal. It seems of turning the entire Web into one big social network, so eventually the Internet will be Facebook.

Today when I login to my Facebook profile I found something new. One Green Tab showing to my facebook account telling that Get New Profile. As im very much addicts to Facebook and always try something new, I made a click and what I see is that my whole profile page is changed. I ask to my friends on that, some says we didn’t get any updates like this and some says we are already moving to these new look. The thing is that, Facebook have just launched their new look profile page with some welcome UI improvements, making it “even easier for you to tell your story and learn about your friends”. I’m very much excited to know what’s new to this profile look. Check out my profile screenshot below:

Let’s see what’s new in New Facebook Profile:

The profile page now opens with a quick summary of who you are as defined by what you do, where you live, when you were born, where you went to school, and where you work and what languages you speak. To update any of the information that appears in your profile, click “Edit Profile.”

Beneath this stream of information, which reads a lot like a ticker at the bottom of a television news broadcast, you’ll find some of the photographs you were tagged in. Your privacy settings have not changed. Only people you’ve allowed to view photos you’re tagged in will see these photos.

You can navigate your profile from one central place, making it easier to get to your info, photos and more.

You can share more about your work and education, and even include the friends who were there with you. You can add individual projects, classes and other experiences by clicking the Edit link.

Now your profile is more visual and includes new interests, such as your favorite sports, people and more. To add something new, click the Edit link.

There’s a new graphic display for your top interests. Simply drag to rearrange icons to list your favorites first.

Now, moving towards your profile tabs (Wall, Info, Photos, etc.) which you can easily found at top middle section of OLD PROFILE. Question is where these tabs go?

Don’t worry they are still on page. Now onwards you can found these tabs in the left-had sidebar, underneath your main profile picture.

You’ll also notice that the way friends are displayed has been updated to include larger pictures in a single column. A special family-only section follows this.

How to get your new Facebook profile?

The changes will be gradually rolled out to all Facebook users by early next year, although it is possible to upgrade your profile immediately.

Simply navigate to facebook.com/about/profile and click the Get the New Profile button in the top-right-hand corner of the page. It’s that easy!

Overall, I like the new look. It’s clean and streamlined.

Indian Government Approves Fresh Symbol for RS

India is to have a new symbol for its currency, the rupee, after the government approved the winning entry in a national competition.

The symbol is a cross between the Roman letter R and its Hindi equivalent, and was designed by a teacher at the Indian Institute of Technology.

A panel of artists, officials and bankers picked the new design.
The Indian government hopes it will soon be as recognisable as the dollar, the pound or the euro.

Correspondents say choosing the symbol reflects India's ambition to be seen as a global power.

The winning entry was one of five shortlisted in the public competition announced in March 2009. Designers were given a brief to come up with a symbol that captures the ethos and culture of India.
'Distinctive'

Until now the rupee has generally been shortened to the letters Rs or sometimes INR (Indian rupee).

India's government says these are not symbols but mere abbreviations.

The new symbol will be the "identity of the Indian currency", information minister Ambika Soni says.

"It will distinguish the rupee from other currencies."

The winning design is made up of half the letter R with a horizontal line on top and in between to make it also look like its equivalent in the Devanagari script, which used in a number of Indian languages including Hindi and Sanskrit.

It will soon be introduced on computer keyboards and banknotes in India and is expected to take a year or two to be fully implemented.

The winning entry was submitted by D Udaya Kumar, a newly-appointed teacher of design at the Indian Institute of Technology. He will receive prize money amounting to $5,350 (£3,500).

Experts say implementing a new currency symbol can be an expensive exercise.

According to one estimate, when the euro was introduced in 1999 it cost Europe's biggest companies more than $50bn to update their computer systems to deal with the changeover.

The concept of Mother's Day is in its infancy stage in India, but is catching up with the other major festivities celebrated in the culturally diversified country. Indians celebrate a lot of festivals as it is and the kind of success this western conception has received is surely commendable. Though Mother's Day is not an entirely a novel concept in India, as people have been celebrating Durga Puja - honoring the divine Mother Durga and the Great Mother - Kali Ma, a day dedicated to a person's own mother was something new.

Thanks to globalization, this western festival of Mother's Day has found its place in India as well. Commercialization has given its celebration the much needed awareness. While the concept has found a respectable position in the metropolitan cities, it is fast spreading in the smaller cities as well. Similar to the western countries, the celebrations in India are held with great pomp and show. Indians also realize the importance of this day and dedicate it to the efforts undertaken by their mother in their upbringing.

There are various programs held in India, with respect to the day, and an assortment of women oriented products are also launched. Children of all ages celebrate the festival with zeal and gusto. Cards and flowers top the gift list on Mother's Day. Kids also make special meals and let their mother have a day off from kitchen. Mothers are pampered on this day. Just like westerners, Indians too reflect and express appreciation for the contributions made by their mother throughout their lives.

Be Sincere Not Serious

Don't just have career or academic goals. Set goals to give you a balanced, successful life. I use the word balanced before successful, balanced means ensuring your health, relationships, and mental peace are all in good order.

There is no point of getting a promotion on the day of your break-up. There is no fun in driving a car if your back hurts. Shopping is not enjoyable if your mind is full of tension.

Life is one of those races in nursery school where you have to run with a marble in a spoon kept in your mouth. If the marble falls, there is no point coming first.. Same is with life where health and relationships are the marble.

Your striving is only worth it if there is harmony in your life. Else, you may achieve the success, but this spark, this feeling of being excited and alive, will start to die.

One thing about nurturing the spark - don't take life seriously. Life is not meant to be taken seriously, as we are really temporary here. We are like a prepaid card with limited validity. If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends. Do we really need to get so worked up?

It's ok, bunk a few classes, scoring low in couple of papers, goof up a few interviews, take leave from work, fall in love, little fights with your spouse. We are people, not programmed devices.

Housefull Movie Review

After a chain release of mundane, boring movies for quite some time which neither made room in the box office nor in people’s hearts it’s time for something different and entertaining with Sajid Khan’s Housefull. Though, it might not be a block buster entertainer of the year however, it has enough stuff to make people laugh and laugh. After all what people want on weekends is a good entertaining movie to freshen up the moods. And moreover, when the movie is made by a great comedian turned director himself it’s bound to tickle the bones with its comedy. After 'Heyy Baby' Shajid is back again to make theatres houseful with his flick ‘Housefull’.

Housefull is the story of Aarush (Akshay) who is a total loser with whom everything in life goes wrong. He lands in his friend’s house who is also a loser, Bob (Ritesh). Bob lives with his wife Hetal (Lara). Somehow, Aarush starts believing that his luck would change if he gets true love in his life. But, it’s not that simple for him because not one but two beauties come along his way who is none other than Sandy (Deepika) and Devika (Jiah). But, along with the girls enters Major Krishna Rao (Arjun Rampal) who is Sandy’s furious big brother and also Batuk Patel (Boman Irani), Hetal’s dad. It is then the movie takes pace. Aarush and Bob try to deceive Krishna Rao and Batuk in a hilarious way which makes stomach ache with laugh. They tell one lie on top of another and it continues.

Though the script is nothing special but it’s filled with the all essential ‘laugh’ factor as it is a comedy. Akshay and Ritesh successfully hold the attention of the viewers and their excellent onscreen chemistry is worth mentioning. The climax of the movie has extreme comedy sequences filled with mirth. And of course, Ritesh, Boman Irani, Akshay teamed together with Shajid means assured entertainment. The movie is also high on its enchanting factor as it has casted three hot cheeks together - Deepika, Lara and Jiah.

To mention about the acting skills of the team, Akshay Kumar gave his outstanding performance of drollery. Ritesh Deshmukh entertained throughout the movie with his comic expressions and right timing. Arjun Rampal woos all hearts with his charm. And about the female stars, well, they just added the oomph factor to the movie with Deepika being just mesmerizing and a perfect glam doll. Lara gives her best comedy performance and Jiah is hot but her performance was just average. Chunky Pandey played the role of an Italian hotelier called Akhiri Pasta but, his performance is not worth mentioning. Randhir Kapoor was seen onscreen after a long time and he played Jiah’s dad. Boman Irani‘s performance needs no special comments as he gave his as usual best.

The music of the movie is nothing to mention about and it’s by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. Mika sang ‘Apni Toh Jaise’ which was quite entertaining. Vikas Sivaraman gave appreciable camera work.

Verdict: This flick is a must watch for all who want a relaxing weekend and laugh with a packet of popcorn in their hands after a hectic week of hard work. It’s worth the money.

Kartik Calling Kartik Movie Story

Have you ever received a call from yourself? Is it possible in the first place? There are several theories doing the rounds about the two Karthiks in this movie. So what is it? Is Karthik hallucinating? Does he have a double role? Or a split personality? For most parts of the film, you actually buy the explanation that Karthik does receive calls from, well, Karthik.

Let's accept the fact that a concept like this instinctively generates curiosity in the film. But the real test is to make the story work in those 2 hours. Also - this is vital - the identity of the caller should come as a jolt when the film concludes. Karthik Calling Karthik works in parts, but during the penultimate part, when the story shifts from Mumbai to Kerala, the sand castle, so beautifully built by debutante director Vijay Lalwani, gets washed away.

One doesn't want to challenge the behavioural patterns of a person with a certain disorder, but when it comes to the big screen, when you are narrating a story on celluloid, you need to do a lot of spoon-feeding and make it look convincing. In this case, unfortunately, the finale is just not convincing and therefore, acts as a spoilsport.

Meet Karthik [Farhan Akhtar], an introvert by nature and shy by choice. Karthik suffers with huge confidence issues and is miserable at his average job that yields less than average results. His boss [Ram Kapoor] treats him like dirt. Shonali [Deepika Padukone], his colleague, who he secretly loves, doesn't even know that he exists. Karthik is a loser. He knows it. He accepts it.

Suddenly, one night, the phone rings. And Karthik speaks to someone he never thought he would. He speaks to a man who also claims to be Karthik. The man on the phone says he's here to change Karthik's life. Karthik accepts the phone in his life and soon it becomes his guide, his mentor, his friend, his guardian.

Karthik Calling Karthik is a love story as also a suspense fare that teases your mind. Any love story works if the chemistry and also the moments between the on-screen lovers looks real and the chemistry between Farhan and Deepika works well.

Correspondingly, a suspense film works if the viewer keeps guessing what the culmination to the story would be. The mystery only deepens when not only Karthik, but also his girlfriend and psychiatrist are engulfed in this storm. All hell breaks loose when Karthik's life goes upside down and Karthik is back to square one. But from this point onwards, the graph of the film only goes downwards.

Debutante director Vijay Lalwani knows his job well, but he's letdown by his own writing. The second hour not only looks stretched [two songs flow one after the other, with the story coming to a grinding halt], but the pace also gets excruciatingly slow at this juncture. The climax, as mentioned earlier, is a complete downer.

Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's musical score is an asset. The film has some lilting tunes. Cinematography [Sanu John Varughese] is perfect. Dialogues are simple mostly and at times, very witty.

This is Farhan Akhtar's third film as an actor and it must be said that he takes giant strides when it comes to acting. The story throws several challenges at him and fortunately, he emerges trumps in the most difficult moments. This is, by far, his best work.

Deepika Padukone looks bewitching and acts natural throughout. Ram Kapoor is fantastic. Why don't we see him so frequently on the big screen? Shifaali Shah is excellent. Vivan Bhatena is good. Tarana, Vipin Sharma and Yatin Karyekar are serviceable.

Ishqiya directed by debutant Abhishek Chaubey, comes from the Bharadwaj camp and has already generated enough buzz for its so called explicit trailers. The music scored by Vishal himself sounds very impressive and is of the typical Bharadwaj genre.

Set in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Ishqiya is a strange tale of romance. Strangely so, the romantic tale involves bizarre romance between individuals tangled in a muddle of crime, suspense, passion and deceit.

Khalujan (Naseeruddin Shah) and Babban (Arshad Warsi) portray two thieves who are on the run from their boss, Mushtaq (Salman Shahid). They seek refuge in an old friend but rather rally his widow, Krishna (Vidya Balan). And as the duo plans their escape, very soon do they realize that they are besotted by Krishna.

Three Idiots Plot Story

Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi), and Rancho or Rancchoddas Shyamaldas Chanchad (Aamir Khan) are three engineering students who all share the same room in a hostel at the fictional Imperial College of Engineering, one of the best colleges in India (modelled after IIT). While Farhan and Raju are mediocre students from modest backgrounds, Rancho is a wealthy genius who studies for the sheer joy of it. Yet it is precisely his passion for knowledge and his gift for creating machines that incurs the wrath of Professor Viru Sahastrabudhhe (ViruS) (Boman Irani). Threatened by Rancho's talent, ViruS labels him an "idiot" and attempts on a number of occasions to destroy his friendship with Farhan and Raju. In contrast, ViruS’ model student is Chatur Ramalingam or "Silencer," (Omi Vaidya) a geek who lives by conforming to the expectations of the system, mindless cramming, and unethical means of destroying his competition. Meanwhile, Rancho also falls in love with ViruS' pre-med daughter Pia (Kareena Kapoor).

Their story is framed as a flashback from the present day, ten years after graduation. Having lost contact with Rancho who disappeared during the graduation party. Raju and Farhan get a call from Chatur, whom 10 years ago challenged Rancho to see who would be more successful, him or Rancho. Raju and Farhan crash Pia's wedding, and she goes along with them to find Rancho. Chatur thinks that Rancho is a schoolteacher, but Rancho tells everyone that he is Phunsukh Wangdu, a world-famous scientist whom Chatur is waiting to sign a deal with, much to Chatur's shock and dismay.
