I bought a second hand a6500 for safari next year but I also want to use it for astronomy photography with my sony fe200-600 lens.

I am looking for an intervalometer that guaranteed will work with the a6500? I tried amazon and the information about compatibility is dire and often misses some models or states plain wrong models.

I tried ai and it is mostly talking out of its backside and contradicts itself eventually. I already bought a sony remote for it because it claimed by high and low it has a build in intervalometer, it doesn’t so I wasted my money.

Please anybody who has experience with intervalometers and my camera, please tell me which ones work because I am not going to buy anotherone only to find out again that it does not work.

	Many thanks already.

In my 20s I used to carry my film camera around everywhere I went, I carried it on my shoulder with just the typical leather case that came with the camera (in the picture attached).

I just got my need for street photography back and so I bought a A7CII with the 40mm 2.5

I'm looking for a small shoulder bag to carry it around but everything I found is too big. I got this camera and lens for its size and I want to keep it small. Maybe I won't find a leather case like the one on my film Yashica, but something similar in size, just to carry the camera with that lens and nothing else... And if it is a retro looking bag, it would be perfect. Maybe leather (or synthetic leather) or a canvas one. The closest I've got is the Think Tank Retrospective 4, but it's still too big, I don't want to carry any extra lens.

I just bought a brand-new Sony A6400 today. The camera has firmware version 1.00 for the body and the kit lens version 2. I followed all the update steps correctly:

 Removed the SD card

Downloaded the correct firmware from Sony’s website

Set the USB connection mode to Mass Storage

My PC recognizes the camera — it shows up in File Explorer, and the camera display also confirms that it’s connected. However, when I launch the Sony firmware updater, it keeps saying the camera cannot be detected.

I found another post here from someone with the Sony A7III who had the exact same issue, and it turned out he actually had the A7III A-version, so the updater didn’t match his camera.

But as far as I know, there’s only one version of the firmware for the A6400, right? Or am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance for any help or clarification!

Sony ZV-E10 II – Continuous Autofocus Speed and Sensitivity

https://www.sonyalphaforum.com/topic/22059-sony-zv-e10-ii-%E2%80%93-continuous-autofocus-speed-and-sensitivity/?do=findComment&comment=70675

Problem Description – Sony ZV-E10 II
A few weeks ago, I purchased my Sony ZV-E10 II camera from Digital Photo Supply. The unit is updated to the latest available firmware and is showing an abnormal behavior in the continuous autofocus system (AF-C), which can be consistently reproduced under different conditions and with various native Sony lenses.

	Observed Symptoms
The parameters for focus transition speed (AF Transition Speed) and subject shift sensitivity (AF Subject Shift Sensitivity) do not remain stable.

When the camera encounters a point or surface with low texture or contrast and takes time to focus, instead of maintaining smooth “focus breathing” according to the settings, it makes a sudden jump to focus.

From that moment, autofocus behaves as if the speed were set to the highest value, completely ignoring the configured settings.

After a few seconds, or when reframing, the system resumes normal operation.

This phenomenon occurs even with Active Stabilization, Face/Eye AF, and Touch Tracking turned off.

	Testing Methodology
Tests were conducted under various lighting conditions, both high-contrast and flat light.

Different subjects were positioned at varying depth distances but laterally aligned (scenarios with partially overlapping elements).

Medium and low focus transition speeds and medium or low subject sensitivity settings were used—these are the cinematic parameters I normally work with.

All tests were performed exclusively with native Sony lenses, varying light and contrast levels to check behavioral consistency.

Under these conditions, the camera consistently showed instances where, when using Spot Focus (S/M/L), it would momentarily lose focus and, upon regaining it, start focusing instantly on any new subject as the camera moved—completely ignoring the configured transition speeds.

	Control Camera Used
A Sony ZV-E10 (Mark I) was used as a reference with identical lenses, settings, subjects, and lighting conditions. It passed all tests successfully without reproducing the issue.

	Impact on Professional Use
This malfunction is catastrophic for my professional video work, where precise and fluid focus transitions are critical.
When the system ignores transition speed and sensitivity settings, the footage becomes unusable, directly affecting visual continuity and cinematic quality.
If this behavior cannot be corrected, the camera is unsuitable for professional video use, as it compromises focus system stability and predictability.

A7 R5 flash settings

https://www.sonyalphaforum.com/topic/22058-a7-r5-flash-settings/?do=findComment&comment=70673

Just switched from Canon to Sony A7 R5 I use natural light most of the time But when I use flash (on or off camera) what how should I set the camera up?

I use an A7IV Astro-modified to H-Alpha - hence not full spectrum - and use a so called OWB (Original White Balance) filter for daily shot. My issue is that with daylight, Auto WB or manual Kelvin, the OWB filter doe snot seem to work well in all type of lights. The filter was produced in first instance for the A7III and I wonder whether a difference in IR sensitivity between the 2 cameras can cause the reddish hue on the A7IV. This might be caused by a light leackage due to the filter not fitting properly, but that's a second though I will explore later.

I did not try to connect with Sony yet, it seems rather an adventure to go with this kind of questions, unless someone can share an workable email ....

	Any suggestion is welcome.

	Thanks

With a manual lens this allows me to start with a small aperture and collect some fluidity and then snap lens to much larger aperture to give a more solid defined image.

To date in a few quick trials I have just used a fixed exposure time judged by seeing exposure at a few apertures and then just trying my dexterity.

A next step up would be that the camera closes the shutter when it has accumulated enough light. Maybe some long exposure /astronomy contexts might do that sort of thing....?

To help imagine I'm thinking musicians in a bar, animals in low light, individuals in motion in some context.

Mostly I seem to need near 1s exposure to synch my aperture change and have enough time. A de-clicked lens or one with a loose aperture ring would help (maybe I have at home on the shelf) but I am away with just 2 old Olympus lenses and TBH the aperture rings are a bit stiff and close to the focus ring...

Last week I upgraded from an A7 II to the A7 IV. Today I swapped out my Sony 24-70 f/2.8 GM (the original version) for the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 DG DN II. After using the new lens this afternoon I realized there was an odd sound when turning on the camera as well as an issue where the camera screen would be on but the shutter won’t release and the camera will not turn off. Any ideas what this could be? I feel like it must be related to the lens since when I put the Sony lens back on I cannot recreate the issue. Anytime the sigma lens is on the issue will happen after a few times of turning the camera off and back on again (updated the firmware from 4.0 to 5.0 and now the issue happens anytime I turn the camera on, causing it to be unusable. No issues when there is no lens attached or the Sony lens is attached). The only way to get the camera to turn off is to remove the battery. Both the camera and lens are on the most recent firmware. Any help or insight would be appreciated!

I am the new one 😉

Well, generally I am really satisfied with my 6300. I often use it for filming on my DJI Ronin SC Gimbal.

I use it „press record on camera“, either without or with external focus motor, where I do sometimes connections between the gimbal and the Motor, but I never connected the Camera to the gimbal.

Recently I read about doing panorama fotos with Cameras (not with an handy) on a gimbal with overlapping fotos and merging them together.

ok, the ronin sc supports this feature and should release the camera trigger after taking a position in the panorama shot. It is, based on specs, compatible with th 6300.

the alpha can be triggert via rss-cable over that micro usb connection as far as I know. I buyed a seperate ucb-c / micro usb rss multi cable for sony cams.
When it comes to shooting I open the ronin app and want to setup a panorama shot. But then, the app always tells me, that there is no cable connection to the camera. But there is one. I see it. And it‘s correct to my opinion
Furthermore I generally can‘t shoot or record via the record burton of the gimbal to start the 6300 external over the cable. This seems to be a general problem in this case.

Does someone have an idea or an idea where to search? This is a really annoying fact.
