After extensive research, I bought Sony BRAVIA KDL60NX720 as being the best option for the size without losing much in terms of picture quality. I have also had a good experience with Sony products so was focused on getting a Sony TV. I have not been disappointed with this TV since I bought it about a month ago. I love the picture quality, although I will say I had to change some picture settings in order to get the picture that I was happy with compared to the out of the box settings. Sporting events look amazing as well as other HD television programs. I was concerned about it only being a 120 hz processor, but I don't think most people notice the difference between the 240hz and 120hz. The motion flow addition probably helps a little with this also. Also, the screen size was more important to me and all the Sony TV's bigger than 55 inches and with 240 Hz processor or greater is like double the price of this TV. Although I have not checked out the 3D, I heard it might make a difference if you are concerned about high quality 3D output. I got Sony BRAVIA KDL60NX720 a few weeks ago. The brief summary is, despite doing a lot of research it exceeds my expectations.

To me it was a value vs performance decision. Yes there are better TVs, like the Sony HX929, but at that time the largest model of those was the 55 inch one and more expensive. And of course then there are the just newly released Sharp ELITE TVs, probably the best TVs money can buy, but also at least twice as expensive. Either way I opted for the NX720, because I think all this technology will be outdated in 3 years anyway and it is not worth spending the extra money. Save those extra few thousand dollars for the next TV in 3 years.

So what did I get? Well this TV replaces a 3 year old 40" Sony LCD flatpanel, so to me the 60 inches are plenty.

Next the black levels. The HX929 differently than the NX720 has full array backlighting with local dimming LEDs, so of course the NX720 is not going to beat that. Still it is a huge step up from my previous TV and so good that I am very impressed. The NX720 uses local edge dimming and according to CNET reviews it is still among the best of the local edge dimming TVs. To also quote a salesperson from a local Sony store: He said he compared the NX720 and HX929 by standing them right next to each other, "pixel by pixel" and he just absolutely could not see a difference in picture quality. In summary, I am glad I did not spend the extra money for an HX929, just to get a smaller TV. The black levels are very good.

The picture quality is great and with the 240 Hz refresh rate and the Motion Flow engine picture artifacts are a thing of the past, even fast animations are smooth. I say if you have 2500 to 3000 dollars to spend, depending on retailer I recommend taking a very close look at the NX720.

Only possible catch is the 3D capability of the set. I personally do not care much about 3D and did not even buy the glasses, but heard this TV is not that strong when it comes to 3D. Might be true, might not. If you want good 3D capabilities, just do some more research, try it out in the local Sony store.

About aesthetics, in my opinion this TV is the best looking one money can buy. It has a very elegant design and will add to your living room appearance. It looks great when running, just as it does when in standby.
One more note, which should not influence you on your buying decision, but did surprise me. The 60 inch model might be very slim and sleek, but it is very heavy. I recommend to lift and handle by not less than 2 grown ups.

I purchased Sony BRAVIA KDL60NX720 through Sony's replacemnet program for a defeective 60 inch Sony TV that we had for 5 years.

1st off - the design is stunning. It makes me watn to lose the custom built wall unit, just so I can hang it on the wall. Part of its beauty gets lost sitting in my cabinet.

The gorilla glass is great. I was worried about glare in my roon as there are soem windows and the gorilla glass is reflective but I have not had any issies in the day or night viewing.
some of the intense features that many peopel get hung up on when selecting a model are overkill in my opinion as I ended up turnign off or turnign down the motion flow, auto backlighitng and eco features in exchage for a cripser more brilliant picture.

3d on this TV suffers from a lot of Crosstalk. Thus the 1 star deduction.
I hope they can fix it because it seems there must be a timing issues with the active shutter glasses that may be the casue for all the Crosstalk.

3d issues aside, I see why Cnet gave this TV an editors choice and a must buy award. The picture is stunning.... once you dial in your setting. AVS forums read more...

Overall Sony BRAVIA KDL55NX720 is gorgeous to look at whether it is off or on! The Corning Gorilla glass screen is beautiful and appears very durable. The frame of the television is ultra thin and the weight of the TV itself is around 50 lbs. I am upgrading from an 8 year old sony Trinitron CRT so this was a huge upgrade for me. Having owned the TV for a little less than a month I have not had an opportunity to fully explore all of the features but so far what I have used has been great. For the 1080p test I used my PS3 to play the Inception blu-ray which was spectacular! The 240 motion flow refresh rate was excellent and brought the scenes to life like I have never seen before, even better than I remember in the movie theater. Gaming on the TV hs been limited to Gran Turismo 5 and Tiger Woods golf, both which look excellent. I would say the only negative so far has been the sound which varies alot depending on the scenes in the movie, basically the balance is not the greatest. Overall I am very pleases with the purchase.

The picture on Sony BRAVIA KDL55NX720 can only be described as vivid.It almost seems to reach out to you.It took a little bit of work to get the 3D from cable working correctly but once I did I was happy with the result. I do think Sony needs to include at least 2 pair of 3D glasses with the set but I guess that would take away part of the profit.I have purchased 3 pair of the BR 250 glasses and they work fine.The simulated 3D is blurry and you cannot watch TV very long because of that aspect. I received Sony BRAVIA KDL55NX720 in perfect condition. I am not very tech savvy but I was able to set it up and program it for wireless fairly easily. There are a few codes needed and I had to go back and forth between my computer and tv to get the codes and enter them into the tv. I do not plan on using the 3D option so I have no feedback regarding that feature. The picture is fantastic. I was a bit skeptical about the Corning Gorilla Glass with Opticontrast for reducing glare. The tv faces a large window and although it is far better than our last tv regarding glare, I was hoping for even better glare reduction. The Netflix streaming works great! It's better than on my home pc! I have already watched a few movies via wireless Netflix with absolutely no problems. I tried Pandora and Facebook briefly and those seem to be just fine as well. There are several other apps/widgets that a person can peruse through but I'm sure I won't ever use most of them. I'm extremely happy with the picture and the functions. The remote control is user friendly enough, except when you want to type something in such as on Facebook or setting up weather stations, it takes a while as expected without a true keyboard. Certainly, the top-of-the-line Sony XBR series LED TV has one of the best pictures of any brand but you must pay a premium to purchase this incredible set. For significantly less, Sony BRAVIA KDL55NX720 offers a striking, lifelike picture. If you have the discretionary funds then buy the XBR but if you want the best bang for your buck choose the NX720. You won't be disappointed.

Never bought anything this fragile before. Very satisfied with the prompt shipping, tracking, packaging and handling of my tv. No complaints with my purchase price and I saved on shipping and sales tax.

I like Sony BRAVIA KDL46NX720 a lot from the day i have bought it. It has wonderful crispy picture quality, great looks, it was so easy set up on wifi, all the internet applications were easy to setup.

I did a little research before buying this TV. The two main options i was considering for buying a TV were Samsung and Sony. I think both the TV's are almost the same. Here are the few main differences that i found in the two:

1. Samsung has more applications as compared to Sony. You might need to buy a blue ray player to get more apps.
2. Corning Gorilla Glass is tough and protects screen. Samsung has very thin screen. A light contact with Screen shooks it but sony is pretty stable. I would say a very good thing to have on an expensive TV.
3. Audio output is better in Sony as compared to Samsung.
4. Sony has better picture quality as compared to Samsung i compared it in a store looking at the two TV's side by side.
5. Built in Wifi as compared to wifi ready in few samsung TV's of the same price range.

I have tried many tvs in the last year or so. Everything from samsung to sharp, and now this Sony BRAVIA KDL46NX720. I was looking for good picture quality (no clouding or flashlighting), the ability to properly reproduce 24 fps for movies and low input lag. Honestly, that's not too much to ask for, but apparently it is with the current tv market. Enter the sony nx tv. This tv has fantastic picture quality in hd cable, blu ray, and steaming (note I havn't used the tv without the local dimming option selected). There is very low input lag and makes playing ps3 games (gt5, dirt3, crysis2, bf3 beta) no issue at all. The internet features are fine, I don't use them that much, but, netflix and the apps are cool. The menu is very fast and responsive. Finally, the styling of the set is the best available. I did a lot of research, I thought, before purchasing this unit. I had size limitations to fit into an existing cabinet so the newer slim bezel smart tvs in the 46 inch(Sony BRAVIA KDL46NX720) size were the largest I could go with. Note to anyone who purchases a tv online I expected the CS to be better on follow through.

Pros :
- the unit is clean looking, light and was very easy to assemble and put in place.
- hook up to Fios and my 5 year old Samsung DVD/receiver was easy
- the unit recognized those components and through the HDMI control command provides control of the Samsung DVD player through the remote with no setup on my part.
- The picture is great. I have played around with the settings some and have been okay with some of the preset features on picture.
- Price seemed very competitive to the upper level Samsung units when comparing features.
- TV speakers are not bad. More than adequate for average viewing.

Now the Cons:
After getting things set up I tried Pandora out. Excited at the idea of having this play through my receiver and speakers. Again based on my idea that this tv would work as a hub for all these cool new features.) Pandora works fine, but oddly the sound switches back to the TV speakers. I play around and switch it to the external speakers. The signal from the Fios box starts playing. I turn off the Fios. Now nothing comes out of the speakers. After spending a while playing with settings and becoming frustrated, I called Sony support. Only to be told that due to the fact that the set only has one output - the optical output - and something about the format of that output, none of the internet based content will be able to be played through the external speakers. That OLDER models had an analog output that would let you do this, but NONE of the newer set have this. That if I want to have those apps play sound through my external speakers I will have to buy a receiver that will access the apps itself.

I also tried hooking up an ipod through a cradle that I bought with a USB connection. The TV recognizes that the ipod is there, but does not see any files. I assume this is a file format problem. But again it is a big disappointment.

To me this is a HUGE HUGE disappointment. This basically renders my choice to buy the higher level set BECAUSE of the these features as complete wrong. As I stated, I am not a huge video or audio perfectionist. But if I am listening to music - I want it to play through the stereo speakers - not the puny TV speakers. If I am watching a movie, I want it to at least have the option of playing through the speakers. I don't know if perhaps this is a software type thing that they can change in a firmware update, but it has me considering returning the set. With this being the case, I might as well save money on the tv as it is STILL only an output display - despite all the misleading advertising to the contrary - and use the money I save to buy a dvd/bd/receiver unit that will connect to all of the internet applications. I suspect that the picture quality would be the same or close to it.

I am curious as to whether this problem is a Sony thing or if it is true of all brands selling "smart TVs." Not knowing that answer combined with the hassle of returning will probably keep me from returning the unit. I will just suck it up and buy a receiver/dvd that does the internet stuff. But overall this has really ruined my satisfaction with my purchase and I would not really recommend buying this level of TV, as there just doesn't seem to be much point. Sony BRAVIA KDL55HX820 is very sleekly designed and looks great!! Nice black unit and very slim.

Setup: Sony provides a tabletop stand, but with such a large unit that is light weight, it's always better to use wall mount or a stand with a mount to avoid accidental tilting. The base stand was easy to attach. Be cautious you can accidentally attach it backwards. There is an easy set-up menu (standard stuff such as time and date, tuning channels, other connected equipment etc). It did take me about an hour to make sure the TV was properly secured and all the units (bluray player, game console etc) were connected before turning it on.

Setup was very easy including connecting to the internet (I used wifi - entering the password is a pain, but you can use WPS if your router allows it; The unit also has an ethernet port and you can use a wired connection). The user manual that comes with the unit only provides very minimal information. The i-manual accessible through the unit's software menu provides more detailed information.

Video and Audio: The default settings provide excellent picture quality. I did not have to adjust anything. However, for the more demanding users, there is a choice of built-in presets as well as option to customize/modify the settings. The gorilla glass does provide very nice 'black contrast'. However, it reflects any minimal light you might have in the room. So the picture quality is great if you have a really nice dark room. A place like a living room with many windows perhaps is not a good place.

Fast action videos are amazing to watch since there was no blur. I watched a few home videos (shot with a Sony HDR-CX110) where I was clearly able to notice the difference between my previous 60Hz TV and this one.

Audio quality is so so with the units stereo speakers- sufficient for the average user (unlike HX729, the speakers are on the front of the unit and easy to hear). as always, if you had an audio system (home theater or so), it is better to use it than the unit's speakers.

Features:
1. network and internet: There are lots of features due to the internet capability. The unit can be set-up to work with your amazon movies, netflix, hulu account etc. If you have set-up a media streamer (e.g. Mezzmo) on your PC, the unit can very well connect to the server and display videos seamlessly. However, the quality depends on your network speed and bandwidth. With a wireless n router and my AMD quad-core PC, I was able to stream 720p videos very well, but 1080p videos were choppy. Sony also provides some free internet content (~250 movies, ~400 TV shows etc through a provider called 'Crackle'), but as you can imagine these movies are not box office hits. A note of caution though - most of these are R rated movies and I havent found a way how to restrict internet content based on rating. You can do that for the cable/antenna program though.

2. 3D: The 3D capabilities of the TV are really great. I don't have other 3D units to compare but the quality was as good as the ones I have watched in theatres using active 3D glasses. The 3D depth and fast action scenes (like in Potter movies) are very good although the colors are not as vibrant as when you watch regular bluray movies. There is an internet link where you can watch some trial 3D clips.

3. Other: There is a built-in camera at the bottom of the unit. It apparently has face detection capabilities so that the unit can adjust the audio and video according to where you are watching from. I haven't had a chance to test this. However the same camera detects when a small child is near by (with in 3ft of the screen) and then beeps and turns off the picture. We need to check until what age it works or how it detects child vs adult. but seems to be a nice feature - worked with a 4 yr old that we tested with.

When setting ambient light contrast etc., you can actually see a preview from that camera, but don't know why we cant use it for skype (yes, skype is another feature on this tv)!!

Cons:
1. Like other reviewers have pointed out, there might be a slight tilt to the right with the provided stand depending on number of factors (placing on carpeted floor, glass top stand etc). This is especially true with the 55" version.
2. Many users complain about the bleed problem, but it appears only very little and only on the sides. It does not affect picture quality in anyway (ofcourse you watch tv from the front and not the side). I am not concerned about it.
3. The software that drives the menu and setup is very slow and quite clunky. It froze and restarted the tv so many times initially. Due to the wifi connection, the unit did update the software automatically (prompts you when update is available). In the past week, I havent seen any restart or freeze. Need to see how well it works. The software is slow to respond nevertheless.

Admittedly, I was holding out for the XBR55HX929 but when they dropped the price on the Sony BRAVIA KDL55HX820 by almost $1,000 under MSRP I wasn't going to pay over $3,700 for the slightly darker black provided by local-dimming LEDs. Honestly, after seeing both in a "box" store, I can't really tell the difference. Picture is bold and bright but haven't really noticed the MotionFlow 480 enhancements over the 240 Hz refresh rate of other TVs. The Corning Gorilla Glass does produce more glare than my older screens but a decent trade off for greater scratch resistance. Form factor is great with a very narrow frame. I upgraded from an earlier model 46" XBR and the new 55" is almost the exact same size! Little weird though; my wife swears the screens are the same size because of it. WiFi connectivity is great for NetFlix and Amazon movie purchases. Amazon Prime even has a great selection of free movies and price specials on new releases. Sony BRAVIA KDL55HX820 Price and features were key when deciding to make this purchase. This unit replaced a 46" XBR, which, is still running strong. The primary reason for the upgrade was 1st - 3D capability, 2nd - size. This unit, mounted on the wall, has the same footprint as the XBR did, due to Sony's design, and therefore, was able to upgrade pic size without compromising space already allocated. Extremely pleased with this unit, however, a few minor items that I would like to disclose. The device does not have an S-Video input. It comes with a dongle, that accepts one component, and one composite connection. I was able to get an S-Video adapter to convert to the composite, so no issue. This connection is used for Laserdisc playback. This unit has sensors in it for various reasons, one being, detection of someone being too close to the unit, which throws up a message requiring your action to reactiviate the picture when someone gets to close to the screen. Not sure what keeps causing this to activiate on my set, as again, it is mounted on the wall and, activated a few times when I was more that 10 feet from the screen. I disabled this functionality for now. Lastly, WiFi ready, however, if you are not broadcasting your SSID, you may have trouble connecting to your wireless network. Not sure why this is the case, but I have only been successful connecting to a wireless netwrok that is broadcasting the SSID. I ordered the Sony to replace a 32 inch Toshiba I purchased in 1994. In my subjective opinion Sony BRAVIA KDL46HX820 is good to excellent in all the areas I was worried about in a LCD TV. this tv is so beautiful, the 3D image is awesome the 2D image is way better and this bravia tv makes my room look very sexy

Pros
Excellent black levels. I was able to enjoy an old black and white movie on AMC. This would have been painful on my other CRT and LCD TVs.
Built-in speakers. The speakers are acceptable for watching broadcast TV. For movies I still prefer using an external sound system.
SD picture quality. While HD video looks better, the SD video looks good.

Cons
Location of ports. The ports on the side are difficult to both make temporary connections and hide permanent cables. This is a minor inconvenience and common to most LCD TVs

Sony BRAVIA KDL46HX820 is absolutely wonderful. I got it very quickly (3 days after ordering it). It took a total of 10 minutes to unpack, attach the base, and make it through the setup process. Linking my Netflix was a snap also. The sound is very good, for just using the TV speakers alone. I am going to set it up with a home theater system as soon as I decide on witch one to buy. I have an LG sound-bar that I used on the Samsung TV that this one replaced, but I want to go for a true home theater system. I did not run into any problems with the picture quality, in fact, the 2D system is the best that I have ever had (I have not used the 3D yet, and probably won't for a while, though I did get one pair of Sony active 3D glasses with it. The local dimming has shown no problems that were reported in some of the reviews for this set. This is the second Sony TV that I have owned, the other one was a rear projection 50" that I purchased some 5 years ago and that I replaced with the Samsung LED TV that this one replaced. My experience with that TV was not as good as this one, and I was a little apprehensive when I first ordered it. I am glad I chose to ignore some of the reviews that had been posted that gave it poor marks for the local dimming and am glad I did. I would highly recommend this TV to anyone wishing to have a 46" class TV. I am confident that it will last me a very long time.

I have been very pleased with the Sony BRAVIA KDL46HX820. It is so clear and sharp that I can all the imperfections of the makeup on the actors' faces...the cheapness of the sets (or not)...etc. It was surprisingly easy to set up and to use all of the features (Netflix streaming!) and I have hooked up my other equipment to it with no difficulty. I was also surprised to see that I can use it as a computer display, which I have not tried out yet, but I can't wait (HBO Go!). Some of the features I did not know about until I checked on them: the dolby decoder. I have Dish Network and the sound has always been mono - but no more! The sound of this TV, using its built-in speakers, with no external speakers or home theater, is super. I called Sony to verify that the TV was actually receiving and decoding Dolby signals from the various networks and other sources. Streaming on Netflix is flawless, gorgeous. I do not have a blu-ray DVD player yet, but I am sure it will be absolutely gorgeous on this TV. Features on this TV are infinitely variable - and worth every penny. I just received our Sony BRAVIA XBR55HX929 today 8-5-2011. It was shipped cross country via Home Direct then passed onto Fidelitone for the local delivery. Earlier this week I had received a call from Fidelitone to arrange a day & a time that was convenient for me.
Today I received a call from the 2 delivery guy's saying they were 5 minutes away. They arrived and brought the XBR in and unpack it then plugged it in. I signed the delivery paperwork and they left all in under 10 minutes.

I then tackled assembling the tabletop stand which is not as sturdy as it should be, then I hoisted it's 67.9 lbs. onto my TV stand taking a moment to just soak in this 55 inches of goodness !.
I then decided to make a quick local trip purchase a Sony BDP-BX58 Blu-ray 3D internet ready DVD player.

After arriving back home I hooked up all of the cabling, fired it up and ran the setup including a wired ethernet connection. WALA there it was in all it's glory. I did wire in the Blue-ray and set it up using wireless N connection. After all of that I then spent about an hour fine tuning the preferences. I even purchased 2 pairs of Sony TGD-BR250 3D glasses and watched a few of the XBR's onboard 3D movie trailers and such, WOW I AM BLOWN AWAY !

To finish off I downloaded the MediaRemote app onto my iPhone 4 and my iPod Touch 4th gen in doing so I can control both the XBR and the Blu-ray read more...

I got this Sony BRAVIA XBR55HX929 2 weeks back and what a difference an upgrade makes. I bought the 55HX820 last month, had it for almost 4 weeks and returned it and replaced it with 929. I have a 52XBR5 and for some reason the HX820 was not even close to that 3-4 year old TV. I was not sure if something was wrong with the TV or I was used to seeing a better quality picture. Either way I made the right decision. The difference in price was $400. I know it is a lot of money but it is worth every penny of it. I had both the TV in my house for a day. I hooked up both of them side by side and it did not take me and family a second to see the diffference. After a bunch of research I bought the Panasonic TC-P55VT30 because I heard it had the best picture quality of any 2011 set [...]. I had it for a week, but even though I spent time calibrating it with the calibration DVD from avsforum [...] the colors and brightness just didn't look good. I would either end up with too much contrast and not enough color or the colors oversaturated. I tried every single mode on the Panasonic including custom, but I just wasn't happy with it. My wife, who isn't really interested in all of this, commented that the picture looked worse than the TV it replaced.

I replaced the Panasonic with this TV (Sony Bravia XBR-55HX929) and right out of the box with no picture adjustment I was absolutely blown away - my wife noticed the difference immediately. Blacks were dark if not darker than the Panasonic - like looking into a reflective pool of black ink. The colors were perfect and very lifelike, not oversaturated but not washed out - just spot on. I watched a few blue-ray's with mixes of darks and colors as well as fast motion and the set just rocked. No judder at all, just very smooth and an amazing picture. The set itself is gorgeous - a little smaller looking than the Panasonic (~2 inches wide) but really don't care.

Now - the reviews are true, if you look at this set from off angle (~45 degrees) the picture doesn't look as good - the colors get a little less pop and you can definitely see some blooming (bleeding of brights into dark areas), but looking at it from straight on or up to ~30 degrees I could't detect any imperfections in the picture. I rarely look at the TV from off angle, and the picture is seriously worth it read more...
