Update SMS & MMS Diary

I just received a Licensce Key from Ola Melen and would like add to my review of SMS & MMS Diary.

After I added the License Key I got some more Options in the Menu when you tap on a message.

I will go through all the options that is available in the registered version.

Opens the Drafts folder with a blank message and the senders number in the To: field

Copy Message Text

Copies the text of the message to use in another message or application

Copy Phone Number

Copies the Sender's phone number - probably to use when creating a new contact

Call Sender

Calls the sender

Delete

Deletes the current message

Sort by Date / Sort by Name

Depending on how your messages are sorted you can sort Name (if it is sorted by Date)

or sort by Date (if sorted by Name)

Save as Diary

This probably the most Impressive feauture of this application and deserves

some more explanation. (See below)

White Theme / Black Theme

If you have Black Theme active it Changes to White Theme and vice versa

(I must say that I prefer the Black Theme)

Update Program

Opens a screen that asks wheter you want to open your Web Browser and retrieve

an update

Exit

Exits the application

SAVE AS DIARY

When I clicked on Save as Diary I got the follwing screen

I clicked on YES to open my Web browser, but found it too difficult to read the information on the small screen of my phone.

I then copied the folder that was created on my memory card to my PC. It contained three HTML files that opened in Internet Explorer.

The one was Summary information that showed number of messages sent and received per month, number of messages sent and received per Contact and length of messages per contact.
The second was the complete messages sorted by Contact
The third was the complete messages sorted by Date and grouped per month

This is a easy way to create a backup of your messages.

I am really loving this application.

SMS & MMS Diary on my W960i

A couple of Months ago I switched from Nokia N80 to SE W960. I figured that because they are both Symbian devices they would have similar functions but the W960 would have the edge because of the touch screen. I soon discovered that the UIQ3 interface was very different to the S60 interface. It took me a while to get use to UIQ3 and now that I have I prefer it to S60. The only thing I hate about UIQ3 is the messaging – it is extremely slow.

This is where SMS & MMS Diary comes in.

I only discovered this program today and it is a very effective solution to the slow speed of the default messaging application on UIQ3.

When you run the application you get a scrollable list with all you messages, neatly divided by a red line. The message text is in white on a black background and is very easy to read. Moving you finger up or down on the screen smoothly scrolls the list up and down. A menu is activated when you tap on a message which gives you options to Reply, Delete, Sort, Save as Diary and some Licensing and Buying Options.

Likes:

Clean and Readable interface and Menus
Very quick to read messages
Scrolling of messages with finger
Shows SMS & MMS with pictures in the same list

Dislikes:

It can be difficult to find a particular message if you have many stored on you phone.
The scroll speed is difficult to control

In short I would say that SMS & MMS Diary is a very good application with a clean interface and menus and will get even better because the developer is still working on some improvements.

Find Your W960i IMEI number

To find you IMEI number on you W960i phone simply type * # 0 6 # from the standby screen and the IMEI number will appear on the screen. It is also located on a sticker which you can see when you remove the battery. You can also find it by accessing the service menu as described in Service Menu via Jog Dial on W960i

QScreenSnap - Free UIQ3 Screencapture Program

After trying a few different screen capture applications on my W960i I decided to use QScreenSnap.

My reasons for this was:

It is freeware
It is simple to use
It adds enough settings without overcomplicating the program

The user interface consist of two tabbed screens namely "General" and "Timing"

On the General screen you can change:

The location where images are saved (by tapping on "Select Folder")
The image format (jpeg, bmp, png)
The option to show the floating window or not
The option to hide the floating window when capturing

On the Timing screen you can change:

The Capture Count (from 1 to 100) - this is how many times screen will be captured from a single tap on the floating icon.
The Capture Interval (from 1 to 120) - this is the delay between a tap on the icon and the screen being captured

I changed my save folder to C:\Media Files\Picture\Screenshot\ so that the captured images are seperate from other images in my Pictures folder.

(The default is C:\Media Files\Picture\)

I also tried the different image formats and could not see a noticable difference in quality between the three. The image size however varied a bit and I got the following results by capturing the same screen in different formats.

.bmp - 226kb
. jpg - 19kb
. png - 52kb

I set both the Capture Count and the Capture Interval to 1.

To sum up - this is a simple application that achieves what it is meant to with the minimum of effort from the user.

Service Menu via Jog Dial on W960i

I found this tip on how to acces the service menu on my W960i. It will work for other UIQ3 phones aswell.

To access the service menu do the following while in standby mode:

Jog Dial Up

Press * on keypad

Jog Dial Down
Jog Dial Down
Press * on keypad
Jog Dial Down
Press * on keypad

Wait a second and the following menu appears:

The Options under "Service information"

The Options under "Service tests"

"Format Phone memory" gives you and option screen to select Yes or No
