Wrestling Mayhem Show 234: Live Golden Shower

I like to set myself hard deadlines to get things done.  In that regard, I invited Doc Remedy and Mayhem Missie to return to the show this week so I knew I’d get the guest couch side of the studio in order.  Unfortunately, a few errands beyond my control the couple days before (meetings and a round tripper to Erie.  Whoop.)  All this, and an old high school friend stops by today out of nowhere.  It was hard, but it got together.

And it was grand.  We were pushing the limit with 6 on air voices (3 in studio, 3 on Skype), and Doc Remedy was in rare form, taking the wireless mic to the bathroom with him.  Oh, and we talked about wrestling.  Another classic.

AwesomeCast 14: We’re Suing Everybody

We swapped things up again to a 10 PM time slot, and I think I lost my mind in the process.  Stephen of The Tech Buzz joined us, and I attempted to toss in Chachi, but some quick configurations to get the in studio couch cam together for the Mayhem Show goofed some of my setup.  But we had audio for him, and it was all good.  The show seemed to come off pretty well until I…forgot how I ended the show…But that happens.  Moments like that is why I believe in pushing the raw, unedited versions of these shows…

I’ve had this itch to twitpic my setups as I travel around doing my shoots for wrestling, interviews, and football, and started thinking about this transition over the next few months (I know I haven’t mentioned too much about it…)  I’m expecting to find myself in some interesting places and situations as I travel around the area, work with new people, and generally try to figure out where my new path is going to take me.

I hope this will be a chance to speak a bit more on here, since I have trouble spouting blogs, so I’ll try to see how well my gift of gab fits, and hope I have a better chance to convey how much I’m having a blast doing what I do.

I was very excited to get a chance to mix up the studio last weekend, and just love the feel of producing with the new setup.  Things were becoming piled on as we expanded our tech down in the studio.  I had a chance to reposition everything so it’s within reach with much less awkwardness.

Wrestling Mayhem Show 233: Midgets Fighting Cripples

This is where I really got a chance to play with the new setup.  We had Hotwheelz join us to talk about his wrestling groups show this past weekend, so we had a full house on the Skype Beta video conference line.  But thanks to the new setup, it was really easy to decide, midshow, to bring in Rizz to help talk about IWC’s show fromt he weekend before since I was a little too close to the action to give a legit review.  I also could easily toss some video and imagery up on screen to make things interesting in the background and switch on the fly.  This is getting much closer to my dream setup.

Music Funtime Show 16: Kingdom Extreme

Finally, I had a chance to catch up with Josh Drespling from Kingdom Extreme.  I worked a great deal with Josh for Deface Marketing, stuff for Western PA Juggalos, Empire Extreme mag, and he was instrumental in helping get my album out.  It was a great talk about his direction into the Christian music scene and how surprising it is.  This show is at the point where I’m hoping to revamp it a little bit, and maybe bring in some local personalities to freshen it up.  We’ll see where it goes.

It’s been a crazy week for me with setting up for filming high school football, a crazy night of cage match wrestling from my ringside camera post, and all of the changes in the wind.  So here’s the 2 out of three successful podcasts from last week.

The Music Funtime Show didn’t get off this week.  Had a lineup set for my friend Josh from Kingdom Extreme Mag that didn’t work out.  But we have a makeup date this week.  I just need to get better at contingency plans for this show, and I’m attempting to recruit help for this one.

AwesomeCast 12: Phone Sects

Chachi is one of the easiest people for me to have on.  I don’t want to make a habit of it in lieu of adding a variety of guests, but I’ve received some great feedback from his input in the show from the few times he’s been on.  We had another half show of phone talk, and another jump into the net neutrality waters.

Wrestling Mayhem Show 232: Future Myspace Spam F***ers!

It’s never boring when you have IWC Champ Jimmy Demarco on the show.  And it’s twice as crazy when you throw in IWC Tag Champion Flippin’ Ain’t Easy member Michael “The Bomber” Facade in the mix.  The fans stepped up to poor scores of questions in so I didn’t have to conduct much interview from scratch, and ranged fromt he typical to the just plain weird.  These always end up to be some of my favorite Mayhem Shows we’ve recorded.

This week, we debut our new studio setup!  Next week, we plan to have our new guest area setup, and ready to use for some long time WMS crew members to return in studio!

A little post I did today for Podcamp Pittsburgh.  Enjoy!

Remember Justin Kownacki?  The social media mouthpiece that calls out his peers and keeps the net honest?  The creator of Something to Be Desired, the 2008 Yahoo Video Awared Nominee?  The founder of the Podcamp Pittsburgh we all know and love?

Yeah.  That Justin Kownacki.

Well, thanks to a tweet today, it appears he’s getting back into the series game with a novel concept.  Thanks to a setup over at KickStarter, things are setup for you, the fans of Something to Be Desired and our revered forefather of ‘Camping in these parts, to contribute to the production, get some swag for your efforts, and maybe even a vote, and in the best case, even have a character in the show named after you.

This is a concept that was quite successful when some friends at Cosmic Hellcats, a webcomic produced here in Pittsburgh, were looking to fund the print of their latest comic release of their series for the Pittsburgh Comic Con. Chris Maverick, the writer for the project, joined us on the Wrestling Mayhem Show in March to talk about the process, and some wrestling, of course (Note: Explicit content on that show)

We’re replacing our old “Grassroots Podcasting” and reuniting my Wrestling Mayhem Show crew with the Should I Drink That guys, and Hutch Baille from Burghseyeview.  Three Podcasts that have existed ever since (or shortly after) the first Podcamp Pittsburgh four years ago.  Finally we find out if it’s guts, perseverance, or pure insanity that keeps a Podcast going this long…

This year, we started a tech show, and we’re looking to have it record live from Podcamp!  This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, and finally we have the right show to do it.  This is a good chance to showcase everything we talked about in Video Podcasting 201 in the previous session, and continue some conversations that come up over the weekend.

This was a lot of fun.  For this one, we had to move to 10 PM to accommodate a connection with an old AIP-mate from Moscow, Russia.  Tim Kirby was one of those guests that brought some personality to the show, not to mention a perspective on the topics we might have beaten to death in previous episodes.  I was instantly transported back to the interesting discussions I’d find myself in between classes in the lobby of the Art Institute.  This is, by far, my favorite episode yet.  I hope we continue to do interesting stuff like this.

Fun Fact: We now have more people watching this episode of AwesomeCast from Russia than the United States.  Welcome foreign friends!

Wrestling Mayhem Show 231: Tweeting From the Womb

This was another back to basics-esque show.  The more recent core group all joined up in some rousing, and sometimes overboard, discussion about the whole TNA/ECW craziness.  Great show, and great reactions from the emailers.  And someone started a pretty fun Twitter account from the whole mess..

Music Funtime Show 15: Big B

Stepped back this week and replayed an old Big B interview to pair up with his new song, who’s video just came out.  But I’m looking forward to opening up to some new discussion about “hardcore” Christian music this next week.

After the fact, I found out that Scott Pilgrim was a manga-style comic book series.  Especially when, after watching this movie, I was quick to declare it the best “video game” movie, even though it’s not based on a video game.  More, it’s based on all of the video games that shaped our childhood over the past 30 years, actually.

The movie is quick, funny, and goes over the top frequently.  No one even bats an eye at the over the top Street Fighter style fights.  Somehow, they made it an acceptable part of the world.  As if we are living in a real life Captain N movie.  Everything is stylized in a part Super Mario/part Sin City feel that really delivers, combined with the dirty rock of Pilgrim’s band and quick one liners spread throughout.  If you’re bored with this movie, you’re likely not into the subcultures this movie oozes with.

The feeling on this movie is similar to when I saw Zombieland.  the previews caught your interest, but it’s rare that a movie follows through like this and becomes the sort of movie you want to buy the DVD for the moment the credits start rolling for the first time.

And bonus: as I found out at last Thursday’s preview, this is the perfect date movie for particularly Nintendo Generation nerd couples out there…
