Dear friends of Alexys,

It is with a broken heart that my words find you.

Recently God called Alexys into his arms.

She was the nicest and most amazing person I ever knew.

She loved God and she spread love across the world through her writing.

God and writing were her true loves, it brought her so much joy.

She’s probably writing Gods next speech right now.

God decided to end her pain and in this I take some solace as I saw her pain.

It is far better that he opened his arms and called her home and ended her suffering.

In my grief and loneliness I know that the heavens have a new Angel.

I know she has just moved on and continues to do Gods work.

I shall miss her, but she will live on in my heart and soul forever.

I will always remember her with love and affection.

God Bless Alexys and God Bless you All.

Love is power. Think about it. Let the thought consume you and slowly make its way through your pores.

Love can smite us to our knees - knock us off our feet - drive us out of our head and send us to our grave in one fell swoop.

It has it’s hand in every part of nature. If it weren’t for the power of love, we wouldn’t be here. We were born from the black coal of darkness into the white light of love.

Love travels a long journey to find us - through hell and high water - through icy blizzards and scorching deserts. It wants to be with us. It wants to become us.

So it keeps searching for it’s opening, but we block it. It tries again and we block it again. And when it finally finds an opening, what do we do?

We wrap it around our ego and try to contain it in our little human consciousness. Love is not a puzzle, yet it leaves many puzzled.

We try to rename it. We misrepresent it. We disrespect it. We desecrate it. We abuse it - yet through it all, love is unscathed.

When detached from the ego, love writes itself in our hearts in volumes. We would travel to the end of time just to be in it’s arms. It’s grip is tight but not forceful. It's hand soft and gentle.

It makes us into who we are. We are sonnets gliding off of love’s tongue. We are love songs sung and heard by the heart. We are the bud becoming the rose. The caterpillar becoming the butterfly. The wings gently spreading to take the sky.

With each day, the power of love helps us find the courage to overcome our perceptions of love and whittle them down to nothing. We don’t have to think about love to be love. We just have to be.

Love is our autobiography writing itself with our lives.

Letting Go For Good

A guy was climbing a tree when suddenly he slipped and was hanging onto a branch.

After an hour or so had passed, he felt himself getting exhausted and looked up to the heavens and cried out, “God help me, please help me.”

All of a sudden the clouds parted and a voice boomed out from beyond them, “Let Go!,” it said.

The guy paused and looked up at heaven once more, then said, “Is there anyone else up there?”

Taking A Vacation From Yourself

I must admit, it’s really hard for me to take a vacation - especially from myself. I used to write almost 24/7 until I realized that I was neglecting other parts of life.

I was always armed with a pen a paper everywhere I went ready to take notes, write characters, plots, ideas and whatever else came to mind.

It is a lot of work to be a writer, but it does take a huge chunk of energy. I have to take forced vacations where I can’t go on the computer to write or read all those interesting internet stories.

Even if all I do is nothing, I am still recharging my battery and reenergizing. I can’t do anybody any good with a low battery.

I came across a story about a super boss Bart Lorang. Mr. Lorang is the CEO of Denver-based internet start-up FullContact API.

He seems to have a huge altruistic streak because he offers his employees $7,500 for what he calls “paid, paid vacation,” but there are rules.

Employees have to really take a vacation to get the money and they have to disconnect from work -- no calls, no emails, no tweets, no work of any kind.

If I had a boss like this when I was in the trenches, I would have loved it. Who wouldn’t like getting paid to take a vacation in addition to your vacation pay?

Sometimes it’s hard to disconnect from the world because you think you need to know what’s happening - you do and you don’t.

You need to know what’s happening in your life, your loved ones lives and pay attention to your own well-being.

Quality of life is not based on work, world politics, celebrity scandals or local news, it’s how you cultivate the love in your life that brings you the greatest pleasure.

So in the end taking a vacation from your habits is a good thing. You are refocusing on your goals and you actually look forward to working. The best of both worlds.

The Optimist Pessimist Debate

If I had a nickel for every time someone said to me, “How do you stay positive?,” my life would be full of stainless steel, armor plating, ceramics, magnets and batteries (all the things nickel makes.)

Since I don’t, I have resigned to the fact that I have to keep hearing this phrase even if it kills me. I guess it’s not that bad. It’s a compliment, though people who are guilty of that overused phrase don’t know that they are giving me such a compliment.

For one thing, it tells me that I am maintaining a positive attitude and by maintaining such an attitude, people take notice. It may rub them the right way or in some cases the wrong way.

I had one of those conversations the other day that I always have with people who don’t see the benefits of positivity. In fact, they see it as negative. They see everything except negativity as negative.

They are always shocked that I am so positive given the state of the world, the crime rate, and everything else designed to cause negativity. They look at me dumbfounded, a little angry, and profusely curious.

Could it be that I am the bane in their existence, an enigma, an uncharted experiment in humanity, a thorn in their pessimistic side, or all of the above? Now I am curious.

What is it about positivity that gets under some people’s skin. I like it so I don’t see a problem, but clearly I could be in the minority. Imagine if we had a world of negativity. A pessimist would argue that we do, I would beg to differ.

Granted, some parts of life are not pleasant at all; death, destruction, hurt, loss and so many others, but for all of those instances, there is rebirth, creation, pleasure and growth.

Your soul is constantly going through the spin cycle and you have to ride it out to get to the next phase of life.

You have a choice in life to be positive or negative, they both take the same amount of energy. So why succumb to negativity?

There is a huge upside to positivity, you smile more, have boundless gratitude, less stress, people gravitate to you, they want what you have.

What do you get when you are negative? Less friends, more stress, more anger, more strife, more unhappiness, more of what you don't want.

Sometimes pessimists try to couch that they are pessimists by saying, “I’m a realist.” I usually respond, “So am I.” Who says realists are negative?

Then pessimists try to convince me that their way of thinking is right. I must be naive, must have fallen on my head as a child. They think my brain has to be reset, it’s too soft.

Optimists know this is coming, but we see the good side of it. Obviously pessimists are not happy being pessimists and they are looking for a way to convert.

The best way to convince a pessimist to be an optimist is to not do anything. They will eventually get so fed up with being that way that they will become optimists. (Only an optimist would think that.)

People have their views and if you don’t agree with them don't spend your life getting them to see things your way. If I had the choice (and I do) I would always opt to be an optimist.

How Great Love Is

This is a special request from the archives. I have posted it more than once, but I never get tired of it. I hope you will enjoy it a second time or perhaps this is the first time you’ve read it.

Since we are on the subject of love - - and when are we not on that subject, I wanted to pass on this marvelous little story. I didn’t write it, but someone else had the heart and soul to create it for all of us to savor. I really love it.

Whatever you do, it’s ALL about love, so be gentle and generous, treat it kindly and it will treat you the same.

Once upon a time there was an island where all the feelings lived; Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge and all the others, including Love.

One day it was announced to all of the feelings that the island was going to sink to the bottom of the ocean. So all the feelings prepared their boats to leave.

Love was the only one that stayed. She wanted to preserve the island paradise until the very last possible moment. When the island was almost totally under water, Love decided it was time to leave. She began looking for someone to ask for help.

Just then Richness was passing by in a grand boat. Love asked, Richness, “Can I come with you on your boat?” Richness answered, “I am sorry, but there is a lot of silver and gold on my boat and there would be no room for you anywhere.”

Love decided to ask Vanity, who was passing in a beautiful vessel, for help. Love cried out, “Vanity, help me please!” “I can't help you,” Vanity said, “You are all wet and will damage my beautiful boat.”

Next Love saw Sadness passing by. Love said, “Sadness please let me go with you.” Sadness answered, “Love, Im sorry, but I just need to be alone now.”

Then, Love saw Happiness and cried out, “Happiness, please take me with you.” But Happiness was so overjoyed that he didn't hear Love calling him.

Love began to cry, then she heard a voice say, “Come love, I will take you with me.” It was an elder. Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that she forgot to ask the elder his name.

When they arrived on land the elder went on his way. Love realized how much she owed the elder and when she met Knowledge she asked, “Who was it who helped me.”

“It was Time,” Knowledge answered. “But why did Time help me when no one else would?,” Love asked.

Knowledge smiled and with deep wisdom and sincerity, answered,

“Because only Time is capable of understanding how great Love is.”

Two Big Boxes

A boy had two boxes in his hand which God gave him to hold. God told him, to put all of his sorrows into the black box, and all his joys into the gold.

The boy heeded God’s words and in the two boxes, both joys and sorrows were stored. The gold became heavier each day and the black was as light as before.

With curiosity, he opened the black box to find out why. He saw that in the base of the box was a hole which sorrows had fallen out.

Alarmed, he showed the hole to God, and mused, “I wonder where my sorrows could be?” God smiled gently smile and said, “My child, they're all here with me.”

The boy said, “Why the gold and the black with the hole?” God replied, “My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings, and the black is for you to let go.”

The More You Know About People, The Less You Like Them

When a person says they don't have friends, I do a double take and remember all of the times I’ve heard that. It used to be hard for me to understand why anyone didn’t have friends, until I learned.

I have fallen into this trap more than once where I have befriended someone and fortunately found out why they don't have friends. I used to say, “You’re so nice, why don’t you have any friends?” They would reply, “Nobody likes me.”

Now when I hear that, my red flag alert goes off. Experience has taught me to distance myself as far away as possible.

Now this is out of character for someone who generally likes people but after years of being in the entangled trenches of these energy drainers, I have learned that I can’t help a person find friends, inner peace, happiness or anything else. They have to do it for themselves.

If you hear that a person doesn’t have friends, there is a reason. If you can imagine someone with the most annoying habits, and multiply it by paranoia, anger, fear, uncaring, selfishness, callousness, indecisiveness, resentfulness, jealousy, spite, envy, deceit, disrespect, self-centeredness, and a myriad of other negative emotions, you would see the person that I am describing.

Even if initially you want to lend and ear to help, you wind up being knee deep in someone else’s drama. Have you ever watched a film and wondered how the main character got into that situation?

You can see how they can get out, but they can’t see. You become so entrenched in someone else’s plot that you lose your own. If you lose your own plot then you lose all sense of caring about what’s happening in your own life.

Before the days of spilling tidbits on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, people were not privy to the antics of bad behavior. Now with a quick tap of Google, everything is there forever in glorious color.

In fact Google, Facebook, Twitter and others have your privacy on the auction block. Your name, photos, address, phone number, workplace and lifestyle are all on record and available to the highest bidder so companies you never heard of can sell you things you never knew you wanted.

People who say they don’t have friends are perfect for social networking. They can still behave like they normally do and have an audience. Perhaps this is why they don’t have any real life friends?

I am not saying that you shouldn’t befriend people, only that you should be weary of certain tell-tale signs. Except for some misanthropes, most of us are all social beings and we like to socialize, it’s what makes us feel connected as humans.

It’s nice to have endowments of human consciousness - kindness, compassion, integrity, selflessness, trustworthiness, humility and common courtesy go a long way and have a long memory.

When people are not in touch with their own worth, it makes them feel less adequate and they tend to focus more on the puffery of others who may not be any more interesting.

Whether you have friends-a-plenty or are friendless, it all starts and ends with you. Be the best person you can be for yourself. Be your own ally.

Technology's Dark Side

In the never ending technology stories, we last left off with a mother breast feeding a baby while holding a cell phone.

Continuing the theme of technological side effects, including cell phone ear, (when people talk loud like they are on stage even though they’re right in front of you), thumb twitching from texting, not paying attention to their surroundings from texting, and that whole radiation thing.

Radiation is a serious thing and though you may have come to love your cellphone like it’s a part of you, you may be exposing yourself to unnecessary and deadly electromagnetic radiation. Since cell phones are held to the head, it is possible they cause harm.

I know you may be thinking, Alexys we are adults and we can do what we want. You are right, but it is my pleasure to pass on information to you that I think would be helpful.

I want you to have access to information that makes your life richer, deeper and longer. Cell phones are fun and convenient, but you should know the risks associated with them if you use them continually like many people I know.

There are two types of electromagnetic radiation.

Ionizing radiation contains enough electromagnetic energy to strip atoms and molecules from your tissue and alter chemical reactions in your body. Gamma rays and X-rays are two forms of ionizing radiation that cause damage, which is why we wear a lead vest when X-rays are taken of our bodies.

Non-ionizing radiation is typically safe. Though it causes some heating effect, it’s usually not enough to cause any type of long-term damage to tissue. Radio-frequency energy, visible light and microwave radiation are considered non-ionizing and is also associated with cell phones.

RF radiation has the ability to heat human tissue, much like the way microwave ovens heat food.

Damage to tissue can be caused by exposure to RF radiation because the body is not equipped to dissipate excessive amounts of heat. Although it may not immediately cause damage to tissue, scientists are still studying whether prolonged exposure could create problems.

All over the world, tens of millions of people are pressing cell phones against their heads for hours every day. Worldwide, the number of cell phone users is estimated to be approximately 5 billion in 2011 and the numbers continued to climb.

People have had brain tumors in the exact size, shape and position as the antenna on their cell phone so there is some truth in brain damage.

So when you are using your fun, convenient cell phone, please remember to use it safely. Use a headset so you won’t have to hold it to your head. Don’t let the fun of technology cause you harm.

Improvise And Adapt

Change Is Inevitable

It is the fear of the unknown that keeps most people from changing, but we have to change whether we want to or not.

When a seed is planted, it goes through many growth spurts to become a tree, flower, fruit or whatever it is. If it didn’t change, it wouldn’t grow.

I know someone who has had the same job for 20 years and they absolutely HATE it, but they won’t change their circumstances because they have become content in their contempt.

For me, working somewhere that I didn’t enjoy would kill me, or at least greatly injure my spirit.

Then there are those who never planned to change, but their circumstances are changed for them; their company closes, they suffer injuries, their family structure shifts, etc.

Change affects each of us differently, and some never recover emotionally from the change.

It may bring great hardship at first, but Spirit has a way of guiding you to your next adventure.

It may be uncomfortable and a little unnerving, but in time you learn to accept the changes and prepare for other changes.

Granted all changes are not good from your perspective, but on a deeper level they are inevitable.

Change is the natural cycle of life.

A Dentist Scorned

You have probably thought about it, done it or know someone who has thought about it or done it. Revenge is a seven letter word that will hit you harder than the seven deadly sins. It’s vicious.

We have all heard that, “Revenge is a dish better served cold,” and maybe that’s exactly what a Polish female dentist was thinking when she pulled all of her ex-boyfriend’s teeth out - every last one of them!

It all started when the revenge dentist was dumped for another woman by the victim - her ex- boyfriend. A couple of days later, he went into her office complaining of a toothache.

Still reeling after the breakup, she agreed to help him out of his dilemma by allegedly administering a “heavy dose” of anesthetic, locking the door and removing all of his teeth one at a time.

She is now facing three years in prison in Wroclaw, Poland and is currently being investigated for medical malpractice.

Can you imagine going in for a toothache and waking up hours later with your jaw strapped up with bandages and no teeth?

Hell hath no fury like a dentist scorned. Adding to the ex-boyfriend’s trauma, his new girlfriend dumped him because he didn’t have any teeth.

This case of extreme revenge proves that revenge is a dish best never served. In life people may betray you, steal from you, overlook you, bully you, rub you the wrong way, hurt you in the worst way and do to you what you would never do to them, and though revenge may be in the forefront in your mind, it is not the answer.

The passion for revenge is strong and almost overwhelming. You may feel that you want to hurt the other person because they hurt you, but it causes more hurt for you than the other in the end and you may wind up paying for it monetarily, physically or with your life.

Many people are permanently injured, in jail or dead because of revenge. You have a right to be angry when people mistreat you, you have a right to tell them, but give yourself time to deal with the heightened emotion first.

Is it worth ruining your life because you were hurt? It’s better to deal with the hurt or anger positively. A friend of mine was hurt by her ex and wanted to kill him, luckily she joined a gym instead to get rid of the physical urge to harm him.

As funny as it may sound, she joined a boxing workout class and imagined that he was the punching bag - it worked for her and she no longer had the need to punch him in person. And she developed a heck of a right hook.

She dealt with her need for revenge in a constructive, not destructive way. You can’t change what happened to you, but you can change the meaning. Use revenge only if it is your only effective self-defense.
