Arlo Wynwood invites comedy fans to “ArLOL,” a stand-up comedy showcase on Thursday, May 21 at 9 p.m., hosted by Paula Barrios. Barrios is a Miami-based comedian known for her work in stand-up and voice acting.

The night will be headlined by Kyle Grooms, with feature comedian Sergio Mendez and guest Christi Carter. Best known for his Comedy Central stand-up special and appearances on Chappelle’s Show, Last Comic Standing and VH1, Grooms brings his sharp observations and hilarious stories back to Miami for a night of live comedy at Arlo Wynwood’s Higher Ground.

The lineup also includes Sergio Mendez, known for his relatable comedy on social media inspired by Miami life and appearance on Roast Battle at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. Christi Carter joins the lineup with relatable stories centered on women and motherhood, taking her act across the nation. Grooms and his fellow nationally touring and rising comedians are sure to bring a night of laughs to the heart of Wynwood at ArLOL Thursday night.

History Fort Lauderdale will host an opening reception and meet-and-greet for its “Three by the River” Artists-in-Residence annual exhibition on Thursday, June 4, from 6 – 8 p.m., at the New River Inn Museum of History building on History Fort Lauderdale’s campus. Featured artists include Constance Ivana, Stephanie McMillan, and Florencia Clement de Grandprey. Complimentary light bites and beverages will be provided. The exhibition runs through June 30.

Constance Ivana is a Fort Lauderdale–based mural artist and visual creative passionate about creating bold, vibrant artwork that sparks reflection, conversation, and joy. Her art is inspired by social justice, Black stories, women’s voices, and nature.

Stephanie McMillan is a third-generation Fort Lauderdale resident and artist. Her distinctive style combines affectionate humor with the bright colors of the sunny tropics. A graduate of the
Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, with a focus in animation, she began drawing illustrations and editorial cartoons, for which she won several Florida Press Club awards. This led to 25 years as a widely published freelance cartoonist and illustrator producing award-winning editorial cartoons, syndicated comic strips, comic journalism, and graphic novels. In recent years she has returned to painting, drawing, and mixed media assemblage. She is the author/illustrator of several books including As the World Burns and The Beginning of the American Fall: A Comics Journalist Inside the Occupy Wall Street Movement (Seven Stories Press). Her original sketches, illustrations, comics, and papers are archived at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum at Ohio State University.

Born and raised in southern Spain, Florencia Clement de Grandprey is a self-taught mixed media figurative artist whose mission is to empower and inspire through meaningful and uplifting artwork. Her artistic journey began in 2014 when she left her full-time job in interior design to follow her true passion: painting. Clement de Grandprey has developed a style without rules, granting her the freedom to express herself fully. She blends her love for the classic masters with contemporary design, resulting in unique mixed media paintings. Her award-winning work celebrates strong, confident, soul-aligned men and women. She aims to highlight our unique, perfectly imperfect nature, bringing out our strengths and beauty as a reminder of who we truly are. She ensures that a variety of ethnicities are represented, making everyone feel seen and honored in her art.

History Fort Lauderdale’s Artists-in-Residence Annual Show is sponsored by the following funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Jan and Ed Crocker Unrestricted Fund, Leo M. and Alice J. Miami Swim Week Powered by Art Hearts Fashion returns in 2026 for an unforgettable celebration of fashion, culture, beauty, and entertainment across Miami’s most iconic destinations. From Thursday, May 28 through Sunday, May 31, guests will experience world-class runway shows, exclusive parties, designer showcases, celebrity appearances, and immersive brand activations throughout the city.

The official runway presentations will take place at M2 Miami on Thursday, May 28 and Friday, May 29, with the exclusive shows on Saturday, May 30 at Queen Miami Beach. Part document, part subjective storytelling, visual art illustrates and offers nuance to significant moments in U.S. history. From portraits of well-known leaders to history paintings that speak to the sacrifice and strength of the American people, the power of paint to render subjects remains unquestionable.

The act of painting can also make history. Through hard edges and expressive forms, American artists re-imagined painting and used abstraction as a mechanism to consider the human body, natural environs, architecture, emotion, and an economy of line.

This exhibition is not meant to be exhaustive but intended to highlight the breadth of painterly abstraction in the United States. Following the 1950s, it became clear that the art world turned to the U.S. for ingenuity and boundary-breaking abstract art forms. From trends that arose in Havana and made it to the U.S. through exile to experiments developed in New York and Los Angeles, the legacy of American abstraction evolves as rich and varied. The featured artists include Young-Il Ahn, Sam Gilliam, Carmen Herrera, Hans Hofmann, Virginia Jaramillo, Lloyd Kiva New, William de Kooning, George Morrison, Noemí Ruiz, Zilia Sánchez, and Vaughn Spann.

On July 4, 2026, the U.S. commemorates and celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This historic milestone offers an opportunity to pause and reflect on this nation’s past, honor the contributions of Americans, and to look ahead toward the future we aspire to create for the next generation and beyond. The legacy of painterly abstraction in the U.S. offers a distinctive way to celebrate the creativity and innovation that defines the American spirit.

DVCAI at Barry University presents Riddims of Graffiti, a solo exhibition featuring Izia Lindsay, MFA, Assistant Professor of Art at Augustana University. The exhibition opens May 14, 2026 and runs through August 22, 2026.

Lindsay is a mixed media artist working across digital and traditional processes. His work draws on Caribbean iconography—rooted in tradition and reimagined through contemporary ideas—to create layered visual narratives that reflect on identity and class in a post-colonial society.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Izia Lindsay is a mixed media artist who works across digital and traditional media to create bold, multi-layered visual stories. Grounded in Caribbean iconography and shaped by contemporary ideas, his work explores identity and class in a post-colonial society—drawing from material culture, indigenous histories, lived traditions, and the ever-changing landscape of the Caribbean.

Known for geometric forms and dynamic compositions, Lindsay builds what he describes as a kind of “controlled naturalism,” where lines and shapes intersect, overlap, and hold multiple meanings at once. The result is a cultural narrative that reflects the dualities of a turbulent, cosmopolitan Caribbean life.

YoungArts at The Betsy Writer’s Room Resident Artist Juan C. Sanchez (1986 YoungArts Winner in Theater) will present pieces from Miami Motel Stories, his series of short plays that take place in different neighborhoods throughout Miami, based on the real-life history of the city and drawing from newspaper articles, conversations and personal connections to its neighborhoods. Juan will be in conversation with fellow Miami writer Jen Karetnick to discuss his inspiration and process for creating these experiential fiction works based on nonfiction events and people. Light refreshments will be served. With the support of the City of Miami Beach Cultural Affairs Program, Cultural Arts Council, and the Miami Beach Mayor and City Commissioners. In this edition, the festival features groups from Colombia and the Dominican Republic currently based in New York, fostering a vibrant exchange between diasporic communities and local artists. Created by Factory Theater, the event continues its ongoing mission to build meaningful spaces for encounter and collaboration between international creators and Miami-based groups, strengthening artistic dialogue across borders and cultural contexts
