Community-Based Connections, Inc. (CBCI), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to youth development, family strengthening, and community empowerment, welcomes the public to its A.D.A.M. (Awesome Dads, Awesome Men) Challenge Fatherhood Family Fun Day on Saturday, April 25, from noon to 5 p.m., at Mitchell Moore Park (901 NW 10th Street). The free event is designed to celebrate fatherhood, strengthen family bonds, and bring the community together through high energy games, prizes, interactive challenges, and opportunities to connect with local resources.

CBCI’s A.D.A.M. is a free fatherhood mentoring program funded by the Jim Moran Foundation. The program provides fathers with tools, support, and education to strengthen relationships, improve parenting, and enhance family stability. CBCI has delivered evidence-based programs for more than 16 years in Broward County to help families achieve long-term well-being. CBCI recently expanded its services into Palm Beach County with the opening of its Riviera Beach office and the completion of its first successful Fathers and Family Day on March 28 at Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School.

Attendees can look forward to tug-of-war, obstacle courses, basketball, three-legged relays, sack races, egg-and-spoon races, music, giveaways, prizes, food, and more. Local vendors and community organizations will also be on-site offering resources and support services to help families access opportunities for health, education, employment, mentoring, and family support. Speed Mob will be hosting a high-performance car display.

Young Musicians Unite (YMU) will host its 13th Annual Gala, “Havana Nights,” on April 25 at Mana Wynwood. This hands-on workshop allows participants to build animated installations, experiment with interactive software, and learn to translate creative ideas into dynamic digital environments, with the final collaborative results transported for experience both online and in VR within the MUDVERSE by MUD Foundation.

Artist Richard Moreno transforms sculpture into powerful instruments that harness the dark pageantry of extreme metal. For his debut at the DiLL, Moreno brings a massive, wheeled crate sculpture that unfolds to reveal dual screens, high-powered subwoofers, and a fog-filled ritual site where four musicians perform plug directly into the installation. The OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival spring edition returns April 23 – May 3, 2026! This year’s festival is proud to feature more than 20 international, North American and East Coast premieres from 20 countries across Miami-Dade and Broward counties! Adding to the excitement of the festival will be a special recognition ceremony for Academy Award-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, whose Rock Out (USA, 2025) film will be screening on Monday, April 27, at Paradigm Cinemas: Gateway Fort Lauderdale (1820 E Sunrise Blvd). He also wrote the screenplay for the film J. Edgar and the 2022 crime miniseries Under the Banner of Heaven. Additionally, he worked on Big Love, Rustin and Mama’s Boy. Black served as a founding board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER). He played a pivotal role in the legal fight to overturn California’s Proposition 8, notably writing the play “8” based on the trial transcripts to raise awareness and funds.

Join The Betsy Hotel for an evening of poetry and conversation in celebration of National Poetry Month. This special gathering will feature Diamond Forde, winner of the 2025 James Laughlin Prize and Caridad Moro-Gronlier, Betsy Poetry Curator at Large.

Diamond Forde is a Black poet and the author of The Book of Alice (Scribner, 2026), winner of the 2025 James Laughlin Award, and Mother Body (Saturnalia Books, 2021), winner of the 2019 Saturnalia Poetry Prize. The recipient of additional awards and fellowships from the Furious Flower Poetry Center, the College Language Association, Great River Review, Callaloo, and Tin House, she has served as a visiting poet for the Bucknell Seminar for Undergraduate Poets. Forde’s Book of Alice has been described by Scribner as ‘A powerful collection exploring the legacy of survival as seen through the life of a Black woman born in the Jim Crow South’. The Book of Alice won the Academy of American Poets’ prestigious James Laughlin prize for a second book of poetry, for which the poet also received a week-long residency in The Betsy Writers Room at The Betsy Hotel in Miami Beach. Forde is an assistant professor at North Carolina State University and earned a PhD in creative writing from Florida State University.

Caridad Moro-Gronlier was born in Los Angeles to Cuban immigrant parents who relocated to Miami, Florida. She is the author of four books of poetry, including Through the Lens and As to Your Comment, forthcoming from Texas Review Press in 2026 and 2027, respectively; Tortillera (Texas Review Press, 2021), winner of the TRP Southern Poetry Breakthrough Prize; and Visionware (Finishing Line Press, 2009). She is also the editor of Grabbed: Poets and Writers Respond to Sexual Assault, Empowerment and Healing (Beacon Press, 2020). Moro-Gronlier serves as the senior editor for SWWIM Every Day, an online daily poetry journal for women-identifying poets, is the outgoing Poet Laureate of Miami Dade County (2024-26) and serves as The Betsy Hotel’s Writers Room Poetry-Curator-at-Large. Widely recognized for her work in LGBTQ+ representation and community education, she was a 2025 Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow, and holds a graduate degree in English literature from Florida International University.

National Poetry Month was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets (AAP) in April 1996. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture. The Betsy Writers Room at The Betsy Hotel has partnered with The AAP for more than a decade, providing a residency and reading to the winner of the annual James Laughlin Prize.

The OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Spring Edition presents its Men’s Latin Spotlight – the international premiere of An Island Away From You (A Una Isla Deti) (Spain, 2025), a romantic comedy, at 7 p.m. on April 25 at Silverspot Cinema – Downtown Miami. An afterparty will follow the screening.

Harry is an uptight chef whose perfectly planned life implodes when he’s left at the altar. Wet Ink is a visceral dance odyssey of becoming presented by RTWDANCE under the artistic direction of choreographer Randolph Ward. Arlo Wynwood invites guests to the opening reception of its latest Living Room Gallery exhibition on Thursday, April 16, from 6:30–8:30 p.m., featuring a new body of work by Cuban-born artist Alberto Godoy.
Presented in partnership with Ori Gallery and curated by Jasmine Arakel, the exhibition showcases a selection of Godoy’s paintings, which draw inspiration from the landscapes, people and cultural rhythms of his Caribbean homeland. Born in Cuba in the 1960s and later relocating to the United States, Godoy’s work reflects both memory and movement, capturing scenes of everyday life through bold color, warmth and expressive detail.
The evening will include cocktails, music and an opportunity to engage in conversation with the artist, offering insight into his creative process and the stories behind his work.
Created to bring contemporary art into accessible, welcoming environments, Arlo’s Living Room Gallery series transforms hotel spaces into dynamic cultural experiences. Join MOAD and Jennifer Basile for an interactive printmaking workshop. Learn the basics of collagraphy and leave with your own creation.

In connection with the exhibition Belkis Ayón and Carlos Alfonzo: Odyssey, participants will engage with learning the basics of collagraphy. A printing technique primarily used by the late artist Belkis Ayón.

Jennifer Basile, New York born, currently lives and works in Miami. Visual artist and Miami Dade College studio art professor for over 20 years. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (1999), and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting & Printmaking at the University of Miami (1996).

Basile’s practice draws inspiration from her travels, including landscapes, cityscapes, and South Florida flora and fauna. Her works expands across different materials such as textiles, wood, Japanese rice paper, and mosaics, among others. The artist hast exhibited in solo exhibitions including In the Wake of Reflection (2025), Lasting Impressions: A Cessation of Existence (2022). Her recent public work, Coastal Anchor (2025) for Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places, can be found at the new Osvaldo N. Soto Miami-Dade Justice Center and Disappearing Treasures (2021) at the Underline at Brickell Metrorail Station.

Basile’s works are part of MOAD’s permanent collection.

Join Orchestra Miami as we explore one of the great symphonic poems of all time, Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. This gorgeous tone poem, which tells the story of the legendary Persian queen and storyteller who narrates the frame story for The Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights), saving her life and others by telling King Shahryar a captivating cliffhanger story each night for 1,001 nights, eventually winning his love and ending his murderous spree.

Also on the program is the Four Walt Whitman Songs, a cycle of American art songs setting poems by Walt Whitman, comprising “Beat! Beat! Drums!,” “O Captain! My Captain!,” “Come Up from the Fields, Father,” and “Dirge for Two Veterans,”
