After the weekend's outrageous display of primitive behaviour, and the dust has settled somewhat, I have noticed a sudden swing in public opinion through social media and official news sources to a strange political stance and a somewhat backwards step in the progress of our (for the lack of better words) civalized socitey. Of course ones natural reaction is to blame one of two main factors heavily depending on your political leaning. The conservative point is to think the underclass have not received enough discipline, and we as a society should increase the rule of law and crack down harder on youths until they perk up and stand in line. Or the liberal stance that the Underclass are just normal people who are lashing out at the system because we haven't given them enough love and education. While both of those ring home true to many people and both are correct in their own way, both are completely wrong ways of dealing with such a complex issue. At least in their purest form.

The real problem is where do you draw the line? How do you tell the difference between the kids like myself who's youth was full of mischief and where getting in trouble with the police although only usually minor and occasional, was just part of being a normal stupid child, doing one off stupid things, (to whom the threat of punishment was usually enough to keep me in line) and the real yobs so heavily detached from our society and incapable of learning, who should of been executed at birth?

In America the cops are ten times as harsh on criminals, yet the problem with violent crime is twenty times worse. They have the death penalty for murder, yet over 15,000 people were murdered in the US last year (The lowest for 10 years) compared to our less than 1,000. But what's that you say? Their population is bigger? But it's only three times as large, and three times the population does not justify almost twenty times the amount of murders. Not to mention their ultra tough and unforgiving prisons make criminals more violent not less, because the tougher the prison system the tougher you have to be to survive, unless you're just rich or just plain lucky of course. So most convicts will come out the other side of such a brutal system far worse then when they arrived. You can't throw people to the lions and when they survive the horrid ordeal, expect them to thank you for showing them the error of their ways on the way out. That's not how people work.

The rose tinted glasses of conservative figure heads such as Max Hastings would have you believe that discipline is some magical wonder drug - one size fits all! The problem is that it doesn't, no matter what, if you utilize one system for an entire population you will alienate large percentages of people. I do not believe in the entirely Liberal stand of lapsed laws for all either. Spoon feeding an ungrateful underclass is also not the solution. But the harder you push someone who's got nothing to lose, the harder they will fight back. Unless we agreed to exterminate the underclass via mass genocide in the middle of the night while any moralists remained unaware and able to sympathize, the problem would still remain, even under the rule of harsh discipline.

Conservative view point's talk about a grand age where kids never spoke back to the authority of a teacher for fear of punishment. Side stepping the issue of the disturbing abuse and sick sexual predators that used to live within the school system in eras gone by. And that the only reason Max Hastings or any other conservative saw no rowdy kids in class, was because the poor underclass weren't actually allowed into the same schools as today's toffee nosed politicians... If any school at all (depending on how far you back) in the first place.

On the flip side the Liberals even more rose tinted glasses would have you believe there is some magical utopia to be gained through the gentle hand of guidance and education. Again this is a one size fits all scenario and will not work for the other 50% of the population, Some youths are just feral and beyond hope. Some people will always be out of reach, and it's unfortunate that current laws prevent us from just removing them from society altogether. Even if it was to just buy a remote desert Island somewhere and dump them on it to fend for themselves.

But before running away from the main point I'm trying to make, I'd like to say the thing that has been wrong with society for so long, is the lack of balance, we've gone back and forth from one extreme to the other for far too long. The law has far too many loop holes for those rich and devious enough to exploit them and outrageously harsh restriction on personal liberties allowing you to do what you want within the privacy of your own home, while enforcing much more relatively lenient punishments for the action taken against someone else's property and persons.

I suggest that our real problem though is more an economic one than anything else. communism, although a lovely idea in the mind, never worked and never will work. Because It's human nature to strive for progression and in communism there is nowhere to go up or down, so what's the point? everyone gives up because they feel all their efforts are in vein. capitalism is obviously the better choice, but herein lies the problem, neither in their purest form work.

Why not you may ask? It's simple, think of life as a game or a task. Within this game you have rules you must follow of course, but the ultimate success of the game is its ability to hold your attention. Games that are too hard quickly become frustrating and will make you want to stop playing, games that are too easy, quickly become boring and repetitive you feel as there is nothing to achieve from succeeding or doing well.

Like a game that is too hard, capitalism in its purest form (the state in which it lives today) has made it too hard for most to achieve all but the bare minimum in life even from a good starting point let alone those who have been thrown under the bus of poverty from day one, like any game there will be those that still find a way to beat the system either through cheating or unnatural determination and although this is admirable, it's unrealistic to expect it from the entire population, and ultimately ends up with most people, like communism giving up, believing their efforts are in vein.

And although the metaphor may seem strange, communism is a game that's too easy or at least for a lack of better phrasing, one where there are no levels to progress no matter how hard you work your efforts are rewarded the same, everyone can achieve the highest score regardless of how much effort they put in and thus the high score becomes worthless because it is obtainable by everyone.

Balance is needed. But for some reason nobody seems to understand this, at least nobody with enough balls or the capability of making the changes necessary to rectify the problem. There is no point in getting a job that pays minimum wage, because you spend 40 hours of your week or more working for the same amount of money or less than those on benefits. Some would say the answer is to cut benefits and force people to find jobs, again this is the wrong solution. Forcing people to do anything will only encourage a small percentage to fall in line the rest will rebel, and taking away a person's ability to survive, is like firing a shotgun into a hornets' nest. It's just not a bright idea.

So what is the solution? Again the answer is simple, at least in theory, The income gap between working and not working has to be increased, while the gap between the richest and the poorest needs to be drastically decreased. We have to raise the living standard of those in work. The fact that there is no real reward or benefit differnce between working 40 hours a week or having all your free time to yourself. Each earn the same amount of disposable income, it doesn't seem all that fair. The only thing that keeps most people working on minimum wage is the social stigma of not having a job, which is an ever decreasing pressure as not working, to many, is actually the more intelligent option.

The law needs to enforce the trickledown effect and stop big businesses and corporations from hording such a large amount of the wealth, Or tax them and feed it back to the workers in the form of much higher and more avilable working tax credit top ups. Staff need to be given rewards for their work, real tangible rewards for all staff, not just that small promotion at Mc Donald's that gives an extra pound an hour if you work 20 hours more a week then the rest of your co-workers for an entire year. Working so hard you have to completely give up any life and dreams you ever had of being a real person to become a worker bee sucked dry by a never ending rat race only to drop dead and be consumed by the hive mind, A life time of work forgotten in mere moments with nothing to pass on to the next generation.

I know I don't have all the answers, but those in charge appear to have far less, if I, the common man can see how to fix these issues, then why do those who should really know more, not?

Just some ideas and food for thought, I personally am all for the genocide of the yobs and those with a nature of being un-evolved in their manners. If only there was a clear way to distinguish between those who are just making a mistake from falling in with the wrong crowd, but will grow out of it, and those that will never amount to anything but an endless dregs on society, generation after generation. But then again where do you draw the line? Who would decide?

Seeing as this will never likely become a viable solution I suggest new ideas need to come to the forefront and present themselves because the ways of old have never worked and never will work! That's just the way the world is. Looking to other countries like Switzerland and Germany who have a very low crime rates and an amazing way of life, should probably be a cultural role model we should be sort after for our future generations.

We are sad to announce the departure of our good friend Paul Gooding from Soul Sanctuary due to personal reasons, it been a cool ride along the way and Paul, as the founding member of the band will be sadly missed. He was an awesome bass player and we shall never forget his amazing style. Take care with all of your future endeavours my friend!

Hello to everyone already following Luke's adventures...i thought i'd come along for the ride and offer the occasional different perspective on the lives we lead.

Not too much to report at the moment as im losing my blogger virginity.. The band has had a good couple of weeks with some enjoyable and memorable gigs. The usual after antics followed and made it even clearer than crystal as to why we do it.

If even one person gets as much enjoyment out of seeing us play, as i do, its good for me. A room full of people screaming PLEASANT things....thats also very good :) I would hope that anyone who eventually reads these posts will have the chance to see us somewhere at some point in time, I'll be the first to say; i recommend you take it!

Hi guys, it's Luke here.

Holy crap it's been hard work the last week, but it's been well worth the effort! in the last week we have jumped over 400 places in Reverbnation.com's metal charts and we are almost in the top 50! and if progess continues the way it has through out next week we will probably almost be in the top 10. hanging with the like of pantera. lol, wouldn't that be nice!

We also gained almost a thousand new fans in the last month, on myspace and facebook so thank you to of of you who have joined our ranks recently horns up to you guys! and most respect to all the people who have been placing our banners and our music widgets about to help spread our music to the masses.
