World Health Day - 7 April

2012-04-06T04:55:00.001-07:00

World Health Day - 7 April

In 1948, the World Health Organization held the First World Health Assembly. The Assembly decided to celebrate 7 April of each year, with effect from 1950, as the World Health Day. The World Health Day is held to mark WHO's founding, and is seen as an opportunity by the organization to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year

Every year, World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April to mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948. Each year a theme is selected for World Health Day that highlights a priority area of concern for WHO.

Ageing and health: Good health adds life to years
The topic of World Health Day in 2012 is Ageing and health with the theme "Good health adds life to years". The focus is how good health throughout life can help older men and women lead full and productive lives and be a resource for their families and communities. Ageing concerns each and every one of us – whether young or old, male or female, rich or poor – no matter where we live

What is Easter and Wallpapers

Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ. It is typically the most well attended service of the year for Christian churches. Christians believe, according to Scripture, that Jesus came back to life, or was raised from the dead , three days after his death on the cross.

Good Friday And Easter

2012-04-05T11:08:00.001-07:00

Mystery in Easter day!!!

God loved the world, and sent his son Jesus Christ. He died to save the world from there sin against God. He died on a friday. We have been thankful for his sacrifice.

However, the Bible does not say that Jesus died on Friday, only that Jesus rose early on the first day of the week (Mark 16:9).

Since Jesus specifically declared that he would be in the heart of the earth for three days and nights, there is only one day that Jesus could have died to make three days and nights & rose early on the first day is Friday and Monday.

if Good Friday comes on Friday then the Easter should comes on Monday..

I guess the First day of the week is Monday. If you see the God's creation in Genesis...

The seventh day concludes with a day of rest. This is in the following sequence:

Day 1 [Monday]: creation of light, and the separation of light from darkness
Day 2 [Tuesday]: creation of sky, and the separation of the waters above the sky and the waters below

Day 3 [Wednesday]: creation of earth, and the separation of earth from the waters below; creation of vegetation and the separation of different kinds of plants (each after its kind)

Day 4 [Thursday]: creation of the sun, moon, and stars to separate day and night, and to order seasons

Day 5 [Friday]: creation of non-land animals and the separation of different kinds of animals; the command to be fruitful and multiply

Day 6 [Saturday]: creation of land animals and the separation of different kinds of animals; creation of human beings, command to be fruitful and multiply, given dominion over the earth

Day 7 [Sunday]: God rests and blesses the seventh day

Tornadoes : How & Why it forms

2012-04-04T10:38:00.003-07:00

Tornadoes are formed only under certain types of climatic conditions and that's the reason why tornadoes occur frequently in some parts of United States and not the rest. During spring, the climatic condition between the Rocky and Appalachian Mountains is very conducive for the formation of tornadoes. This is due the fact that moist, warm air from the Gulf of Mexico, collides with the dense, cool air of the mountainous regions. The states around this region are the most likely to face a tornado and therefore are called 'tornado alley'.

Tornadoes occur due to the collision of large volumes of air, having different temperatures. Collision mostly occurs in places where warm and cold air are present together. For a tornado to form, warm air has to be present at the bottom, while the cool air at the top. When warm air tries to rise up, a large updraft is formed, which can lead to a tornado, if the biometric air pressure under the updraft is very low.

Programmable smart sand is awesome

Researchers over at MIT are always working on things that seem impossible, yet somehow they make it work. A perfect example is the new little magnetic cubes that researchers at the University have designed that are able to communicate with each other and auto duplicate objects using a subtractive production algorithm. The little devices were created in MIT’s Distributed Robotics Laboratory at the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

The researchers hope that someday the system may be able to allow for the spontaneous formation of replacements for broken objects. The key to the system is a subtractive production algorithms that the researchers hope will enable the creation of “smart sand” that are self-sculpting reconfigurable robot cubes that distribute messages among themselves to re-create a three-dimensional object.

The process sounds somewhat similar to 3-D printing only rather than having to use an additive such as some sort of resin and a laser, the smart sand would be able replicate objects by carving them out of a larger mass of construction material using an original shape as a guide. The algorithm is being tested using “pebbles” are about 10 mm across with very basic microprocessors inside and magnets on four sides. Check out the video to get a better idea of how the system would work.

Oceans began warming 135 years ago

2012-04-03T07:58:00.006-07:00

Temperature is one of the most fundamental descriptors of the physical state of the ocean

Beyond simply knowing that the oceans are warming, the results will help us answer a few climate questions," Roemmich was quoted as saying by LiveScience.

Scientists among the 200-member crew on board had taken 300 ocean-temperature profiles, or measurements at several depths in each spot, with pressure-protected thermometers and compared temperatures

It showed a 1.1-degree Fahrenheit (0.59-degree Celsius) rise in temperatures at the ocean's surface over the last 135 years, a result corroborated by a large body of sea-surface temperature data that goes back more than 100 years.

"That is a substantial amount of warming. Ocean warming has been previously linked to glacial melting and mass coral bleaching," Roemmich said.

Scientists have previously determined that nearly 90 per cent of the excess heat added to Earth's climate system since the 1960s has been stored in the oceans.

One issue with the Challenger data, Roemmich said, is that the scientists onboard didn't directly measure the depth of their thermometers; but measured only the length of the line extending the instruments into the water. Because of ocean currents, it's nearly impossible to get a line to be completely vertical in the water, resulting in an actual depth that is a little less than the full length of the line, he said.

"What you are then going to see is a temperature that is a little warmer than it would have been if the line has been perfectly vertical," he said, referring to the fact that temperatures are typically warmer at shallower depths

How Did April Fool’s Day Started!!!

2012-03-30T21:48:00.000-07:00

The custom of playing tricks on friends on April 1st is believed to have originated in France in the middle 1500s.

Before that time, one calendar was used throughout Europe. Under this calendar, each new year began on April 1st. On that day, people celebrated by exchanging gifts and visiting each other.

Then in 1564, King Charles IX of France adopted a new calendar and decreed that each new year was to begin on January 1st. However, while most people followed their king’s decree, there were some who did not like the idea of the change and refused to accept the new New Year’s Day.

These people soon became the butt of jokes and tricks by their friends and neighbors because they continued to observe April 1st as New Year’s Day.

These friends and neighbors sent mock gifts, invited these people to fake parties, and played tricks on them because they were “April Fools,” people who clung to their April New Year’s Day.
