78 Percent of Consumers Have Switched to a Competitive Site due to Poor Web Performance at Peak Times

DETROIT--February 8, 2010--Today, Gomez, the Web performance division of Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ:CPWR), published the findings of an independent study examining the performance of Web sites experiencing peak traffic volumes and the impact on consumer behavior and business results. Conducted by Equation Research, the study polled 1500 people who use the Web at peak times such as holiday shopping, booking summer travel or executing trades during financial market shifts. It concluded that poor Web performance is rife in the retail, finance and travel industries, and that this has a dramatic and lasting impact on where consumers spend money online. The full study can be downloaded at: http://bit.ly/9wUzZj.

The survey, entitled “When More Website Visitors Hurt Your Business: Are You Ready for Peak Traffic?” found that:

•Consumers do the lion’s share of their online spending during peak traffic times and have high expectations for Web performance:

- During these peak times, 51 percent spend a significant percentage of their online shopping budget and 35 percent make online travel bookings.

- 67 percent of consumers expect Web sites to work well regardless of how many visitors they have.

• Consumers’ expectations for quality Web performance were not met during 2009:

- 72 percent experienced slower Web sites more frequently during peak traffic periods than at other times. 58 percent reported more errors and 51 percent encountered more failing transactions.

• Unacceptable Web site performance during peak traffic times led to actions and perceptions that negatively impacted businesses’ revenue and reputation:

- 78 percent of consumers have switched to a competitor’s Web site because they encountered slowdowns, errors and transaction problems during peak traffic times.

- After a poor online experience, 88 percent are less likely to return to a site, 47 percent have a less positive perception of the company and 42 percent have discussed it with family, friends and peers, or online on social networks.

• Poor Web performance at peak times is endemic across the financial, travel and retail verticals harming both short-term revenues and long-term customer relationships:

- 63 percent of online stock traders experienced poor Web performance during peak times in 2009 and 57 percent said they would switch to a competitive brokerage as a result.

- 53 percent of consumers using the Web for purchasing vacations, flights and hotels will only tolerate one or two bad Web experiences during peak times before booking on a different travel Web site.

- 33 percent of online shoppers experienced poor Web performance on a retail Web site during the 2009 holiday shopping season and 41 percent of them say they would abandon a retailer’s Web site after just one of two poor experiences.

“Peak Web traffic means increased revenue opportunity: for most businesses, peak periods are precisely when they spend the most on promotions and campaigns to drive visitors to their sites and convert the sale. However, it’s clear that peak traffic also means increased risk for degraded Web performance and, consequently, lost business, as this survey starkly confirms” said Matt Poepsel, Vice President, Performance Strategies, Gomez Division. “Investing in Web load testing before marketing campaigns and seasonal traffic spikes can help businesses ensure that their customers’ online experience is optimal, even under peak loads.”

Gomez retained Equation Research to conduct this survey. 1,538 consumers who had bought a product or service online in the past nine months were interviewed including 500 online shoppers, 500 using the Web for online travel bookings and 500 financial service users including online stock traders. Interviews were conducted during December 16-22, 2009.

Dot Medical is delighted to report that the Medical Device Network has nannounced that the Lifevest Wearable Defibrillator is one of the five most innovative and life changing medical devices of 2009. Manufactured by ZOLL in the USA, the Lifevest is only available through Dot Medical Ltd in the UK.

Reporter Frances Penwill-Cook of the UK- based Medical Device Network explained ‘The Lifevest was selected because we felt it was technologically exceptional, that it would experience widespread use due to functionality and that it would have a significant impact upon patient care.’

The Lifevest Wearable Defibrillator is used for a wide range of patient conditions or situations including patients at risk of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), following a heart attack, before or after bypass surgery or stent replacement, as well as for those with cardiomyopathy, people waiting for pacemakers or heart transplants or congestive heart failure that places them at particular risk.
Richard A. Packer Chairman and CEO of ZOLL said,’ To receive this designation from a large and respected internet reference portal indicates that the Lifevest is gaining visibility on the international front as a standard of care. The Lifevest Wearable Defibrillator has protected more than 21,000 patients at high risk of sudden cardiac arrest’.

The Lifevest is lightweight and east to wear, allowing patients to return to their activities of daily living while having peace of mind that they are protected from SCA. The Lifevest continually monitors the patient’s heart and if a life threatening heart rhythm is detected, the device delivers a treatment shock to restore normal heart rhythm.

Dr. Ian Rankin MD of Dot Medical Ltd, the company who provide the Lifevest in the UK, said ‘We are delighted at the recognition of the ZOLL Lifevest as one of the most innovative, life-changing devices of 2009. The Lifevest can quite literally save lives. It is technologically exceptional and it can transform the care offered by hospitals to individuals who wear the Lifevest and to their families’.

Tandberg Data provides near instant access, increased performance and robust archiving for 20 editing suites.

Dortmund, Germany, (February 8th, 2010): Tandberg Data, the global supplier of data protection solutions, today announced that it has installed LTO-4 Fibre Channel tape drive solutions to provide lightning fast access and retrieval speeds to The-Mill’s 20 editing suites. The visual effects company has realized significant cost savings, increased performance and reduced downtime in its production environment.

One of the world’s leading visual effects companies, The-Mill has offices in the main advertising centres of the world: London, New York and Los Angeles. The company focuses on providing dramatic, award-winning and innovative visual production effects. The London Soho office specialises in the provision of ambient media supply, such as content for in-store advertising at Heathrow Airport Terminal 5. This office also houses 20 editing suites that ad agencies use to create commercials for delivery by BEAM TV to the TV stations.

Cognitive Network Solutions, trusted storage advisor to The-Mill, decided that the best solution for their data growth was to install Tandberg Data LTO-4 tape drives in each editing studio, allowing each suite to operate independently to benefit from exceptionally fast archiving and restore operations.

Use of the Tandberg Data LTO-4 drives within each suite has produced significant time savings over capturing standard definition video – 2 or 3 times faster than previously, and the real time access has also improved significantly; cutting down costs for clients within the editing suites.

Each drive is essential to the running of the suite; failure of a drive negates the use of the suite. The Tandberg Data LTO-4 drives boast one of the best reliability and data integrity records in the industry with mean time between failures of 250,000 hours – and that’s if the suites are running at 100% capacity 24x7.

Speed and reliability to one side, Paul Crisp, Systems Software Manager at The-Mill, recognises there is also a significant cost savings to be utilized from installing the Tandberg Data tape drives. He notes, “One of the compelling benefits of the total system has to be that of cost. Each system carries a price tag of around £2000. Compare that with the initial disk-based quotes which came above £200,000 for similar functionality.”

Each system is backed up every night and archived daily by the operator with a final archive being stored offsite on tape. Each of the Tandberg Data LTO-4 tapes is capable of supporting 256 bit encryption and LTO WORM (write once, read many) for regulatory compliance. Training required for each operator was minimal and wizard driven as each drive features Symantec’s Backup Exec QuickStart software. The-Mill now is positioned for even more data growth as each LTO-4 tape drive has a native capacity of 800GB.

The installations in the UK have been so successful that the Los Angeles office of The-Mill now plans to adopt the same infrastructure. And with LTO technology as the defined industry standard in tape, the team knows that their investment is protected globally, whatever growth they face.

London, UK; 8 February 2010 – FleetMatics, the software-as-a-service company specialising in mobile asset software, has launched its field service management software, Field Service Manager into the UK market – to provide complete management of a services department.

Field Service Manager gives businesses in the plumbing, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and other service engineering sectors a solution that allows service departments to better manage field-based engineers, by automating service call management, job dispatch, signature capture and invoicing through one easy to use, integrated system.

According to industry analyst, Gartner, the percentage of technicians with wireless access to formal packaged field service management solutions will increase from 12 per cent to 40 per cent over the next two years.

Using Field Service Manager, field service departments can increase visibility and productivity, reduce overheads, ensure faster receipt of payment, and increase customer satisfaction by enabling engineers to complete multiple (and often complex) forms relating to a specific job on a smartphone, PDA or other mobile device.

“Field service departments in many industries face a number of challenges in running an effective team of service engineers. Not least is the problem associated with paper-based job/work processes, such as accurate and timely invoicing. With Field Service Manager, we can cut the average time down from six weeks to a matter of hours,” according to Derek Bryan, Sales Director at FleetMatics.

How Field Service Manager works
Using the GPRS network, Field Service Manager is the only software solution available today that allows multiple job forms to sit on the device itself, which means that even when an engineer is out of network range he can continue to complete the form and send it back to his service department once he is back online.

Derek Bryan explains, “Our product is unique, as it allows engineers to get on with the job and complete the necessary forms regardless of whether they are online or not, unlike most field service management software solutions, which offer web-based forms. This is critical for companies where service engineers are down in basements, in lift shafts, or where network coverage is patchy – it means job processing does not stop even when the mobile network is down.”

Field Service Manager sits as a software application on any hand-held mobile device that runs on Windows Mobile 6 or Google Android. It operates by connecting to the service department’s back-office system via GPRS. This back office system appears as a dashboard to the service department, and is accessible through a web portal.

From the dashboard, customer jobs are logged and issued to the engineers. Once received and completed, the engineer then completes the relevant forms about the job via their mobile device and sends the information back to the service department so that it can be invoiced straight after the job has been completed.

Field Service Manager is designed and sold using cloud (on-demand) computing. Customers pay a monthly subscription and the service is completely flexible, putting the customer in control. This software as a service (SaaS) model now makes software solutions previously only available to large organisations available to businesses of all sizes.

Cross Refrigeration uses Field Service Manager to manage its service department. Chris McFadden, Operations Director, Cross Refrigeration says: “It has changed the way we do business. It is reliable, easy to use and enables us to invoice our customers immediately. We would not run our service department without it.”

o	Centrix WorkSpace iQ delivers application intelligence and metering to assist with planning and business case development
o	Centriux WorkSpace Discovery provides a free desktop and application audit tool to assess best environments to virtualise

Las Vegas, NV – 8th February 2010 - Centrix Software, a provider of solutions that optimise the way IT infrastructures deliver applications, services and content, today announced the availability of two IT intelligence solutions, Centrix WorkSpace iQ and Centrix WorkSpace Discovery, as part of its Centrix WorkSpace Suite. The new products provide in-depth data on organisations’ application and desktop environments to help them build business case and feasibility studies for strategic transformation projects such as virtualisation.

The new solutions include:
Centrix WorkSpace Discovery, a free desktop audit package that helps companies identify installed applications and hardware and understand how they are being used. Centrix WorkSpace Discovery also provides organisations with the intelligence to develop the case for investment around desktop and application virtualisation, as well as suggesting opportunities to rationalise software licensing costs.

Centrix WorkSpace iQ, which provides enterprise-wide monitoring and metering of application access and consumption as well as assessment and asset discovery. Centrix WorkSpace iQ enables better strategic planning and decision-making around implementations of virtualisation at the server, application and desktop level, as well as supporting reporting on application usage and charge-back / billing for IT services.

“IT is affected by huge and often conflicting pressures - how to save on costs, how to improve efficiency for employees, and when to invest in new technologies or changes in strategy,” said Lisa Hammond, CEO of Centrix Software. “However, organisations often don’t have the complete picture of how IT is currently performing, and how existing assets are being used over time. Centrix WorkSpace iQ and Centrix WorkSpace Discovery provide this application intelligence data, helping organisations to understand how IT services are being used, where greater efficiencies can be achieved and how IT can ultimately support business objectives more effectively.”

The new solutions are part of Centrix WorkSpace Suite, which also includes Centrix WorkSpace Universal, a browser-based application access and delivery platform. When used in combination the three linked products make it easier for organisations to plan, consolidate and meter applications deployed across disparate physical, virtual and Web application environments.

Lewis Gee, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing at Centrix Software, said, “With our intelligence solutions, we want to help organisations understand how their applications and desktops are being used at the moment, and where there are opportunities for them to reduce costs and free up budget. The reporting capabilities provided by Centrix WorkSpace Discovery and Centrix WorkSpace iQ help IT managers to see exactly where goals are being met and where there is room for improvement, either through virtualising applications or by cutting the number of licenses that the business holds, or indeed both.”

“Large scale IT projects such as desktop virtualisation can struggle to get off the ground, as the 'one size fits all' approach just doesn't fulfill the requirements that enterprise organisations have,” commented Roy Illsley, Senior Analyst at Ovum. “Tools like Centrix WorkSpace iQ and Centrix WorkSpace Discovery will help kick start understanding and adoption of desktop virtualisation, as they can provide the information needed to fill the gaps that currently exist with knowing what you have, who uses it, and categorising the users. This level of detail helps understanding what technology best meets the different needs that users have across the business."

The Centrix WorkSpace Suite provides information on IT asset use from across an enterprise’s entire IT infrastructure, from virtualised platforms from Citrix, Microsoft and VMware through to physical machines, server-based computing workloads and web-based services. Centrix WorkSpace Discovery is available for customers and partners as a free download from www.centrixsoftware.com/workspacediscovery. Centrix WorkSpace iQ is priced at £89 per user and Centrix WorkSpace Suite is priced at £179 per user.
Budget conscious skiers and snowboarders are increasingly giving overcrowded and overpriced mainstream resorts a miss in favour of cheaper, quieter resorts in less obvious locations.

Resorts such as Serre Chevalier and La Clusaz in France, Gulmarg in India, and Arcalis in Andorra have all found favour with ski and snowboard enthusiasts in recent years.

Though none of these resorts can boast the kind of highly developed nightlife that you might find in one of the big Alpine resorts such as Chamonix in France or Verbier in Switzerland, they more than make up for it in terms of clear trails and great snow surfaces.

A spokesperson for Go Travel Insurance has said ‘For many serious snow sports enthusiasts, these resorts more than make up for their lack of facilities by offering superb skiing and snowboarding opportunities, without the crowded trails and long queues that mar the bigger resorts.’

‘Wherever you are going skiing or snowboarding this winter, it is vitally important that you take out travel insurance that includes specific cover for winter sports.’

‘The most important component of travel insurance for winter sports enthusiasts is the medical cover, if you have an accident on the slopes, you don’t want to be faced with a hefty bill for an airlift off the slopes and treatment at the local hospital.’

‘Other useful components of a snow sport specific travel insurance plan include cover for your equipment in case of theft or damage, lost luggage, and compensation in case you are unable to take to the slopes for a portion of your holiday due to adverse weather or lack of snow.’

Nottingham, 08 February 2010 – The world's most international tobacco group, British American Tobacco (BAT), has awarded intelligence, investigation and criminal justice software solutions specialist, ABM, a five year contract for the provision of Intellicase and abmpegasus™ Source Management. The total solution will help BAT manage business and operational challenges ranging from investigation and case management to intelligence gathering and organisational reporting – all within a secure environment with configurable workflow.

BAT sells brands in more than 180 markets and employs more than 50,000 people worldwide.

BAT’s AIT Intelligence Manager for Europe, Brendan Saritschniy, explains: “Counterfeiting and smuggling are ever present issues facing not just the tobacco industry, but other luxury branded products too. High levels of taxation policies on tobacco products make this a growing and attractive market for criminals seeking a quick profit; it is a growing global problem.
“BAT’s Anti-illicit trade Intelligence Unit will use Intellicase to record, track, investigate and prosecute organisations that operate against Tobacco Control frameworks. The ABM systems will enable a single repeatable approach to all counterfeiting and smuggling investigations across the globe.”

Intellicase brings together the recording, investigation and resolution reporting of all incidents that have a potentially negative impact on business performance, reputation and customer service – and ultimately, profitability. abmpegasus™ Source Management facilitates the management and oversight of Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS). Used by 80% of UK Police Services, it provides a management platform in line with relevant legislative requirements and established best practice.

Saritschniy continues: “Having previously used MS SharePoint and various other internal systems, we wanted a single secure system for gathered intelligence, incidents, investigations, reports and cases, accessible to investigators and intelligence analysts when they need it. Having defined the brief further, ABM was up against two other suppliers. The contract was awarded to ABM because it offered a flexible and adaptable, user-friendly system to record and track all details relating to investigations and intelligence. Furthermore, the ABM team provided a high level of customer service and were knowledgeable throughout the bid engagement.”

Managing director of ABM, Alastair Luff, explains: “Having distilled over 15 years extensive experience of secure intelligence systems for UK law enforcement, the total solution will help BAT transform information into valuable intelligence. This will give BAT a better understanding of trends and patterns in order to support its range of Anti-Illicit Trade measures – and all in an effective and compliant way.

“Implementation is set to begin this month and ABM will be working in close partnership with BAT to configure the solutions to meet BAT’s exact needs throughout the first quarter of 2010.”

Online daters are warned about the increased security risks of identity theft and scams associated with using the Internet when looking for love. “While there are many respectable and reliable e-dating services, online daters should be extremely careful when choosing the best service to meet their needs,” says BitDefender UK Managing Director, Nick Billington.

Before subscribing, users should always search for positive testimonials and Website reviews, as well as the advice from a trustworthy person who has already used the service. BitDefender also advises against subscribing to a dating service discovered via spam e-mails, which could result in identity theft or becoming the recipient of additional spam.

Online daters should only use sites with explicit privacy policies, ensuring that their anonymity will be protected and no private information will be revealed without their consent. They can keep safe by supplying as little detail as possible and using nicknames or aliases instead of real names.

Another precaution is to use an alternative email account, ensuring the security of any personal account and work information. Do not reveal sensitive private data such as home or work addresses, phone numbers or National Insurance numbers.

“Even the most trivial information — like your mother’s maiden name or first pet’s name — can be exploited by cybercriminals. Many of these details may seem unimportant, but they can serve as password recovery hints for email addresses or online banking accounts. Moreover, online daters must be careful never to share financial data, such as bank accounts, credit card numbers or PINs,” added Billington.

Additional e-threats this Valentine’s Day may also include:

• Graffiti and other types of spam distributed via social networks, which direct to malicious websites that spread Trojans, rogue antivirus, key loggers and other types of malware.

• Email spam exploiting Valentine’s Day to advertise goods and services.

• Email attachments attempting to deliver different breeds of malware under the innocent cover of a short, funny movie (which requires a special codec to be played), slide show or e-card.

BitDefender offers the following additional tips to keep computers and personal information safe:

• Don’t open e-mail from unknown sources. Many viruses spread via email messages, so always ask for a confirmation from the sender if you are in doubt.

• Don’t open attachments in emails with suspicious subject lines right away. Instead, save them to your hard disk and scan them with an updated antivirus program.

• Delete any chain emails or unwanted messages. Don’t forward them or reply to their senders. These kinds of messages are considered spam because they’re unsolicited and can overload Web traffic.

• Update your system and applications as often as possible. Some operating systems and applications can be set to update automatically. Make full use of this feature. Failure to patch your system often may leave it vulnerable to threats.

• Don’t copy any file from a source you don’t know or trust. Check the source of files you download and make sure that an antimalware program has already verified the files at their source.

• Use an integrated security solution that includes antimalware, antispam and firewall, as well as advanced features, such as Web Filtering and Identity Protection.

Hoffman Estates, IL, February 8, 2010 – Vizioncore Inc., the market leader in virtualization data protection and management solutions, today announced that the company closed-out the year with a record fourth quarter. Vizioncore has also now provided virtualization solutions to more than 19,500 customers based on results through the end of 2009.
"Overall, 2009 turned out to be another exciting and fast-paced year of growth. December was an all-time record month in Vizioncore's history and put a great cap on the year. Our success further demonstrates that businesses are continuing to look to virtualization management solutions to support their financial, IT and sustainability objectives.”
"Our channel partners are second-to-none in their roles as trusted virtualization experts for our customers. Our staff is dedicated to driving technical excellence and customer satisfaction. As a fully owned subsidiary of Quest Software, we are well positioned to continue to innovate and create solutions, such as our recently-announced Backup 2.0 initiative, This combination will propel us to even greater achievements in 2010 and beyond.”
