West Indies Players in Dispute with WICB on Contractual Matter

You already know that a number of front line players of West Indies cricket team have gone on strike over an contractual dispute with West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). This move led the board to name a squad, which includes nine uncapped players, for the test series against Bangladesh which kicks off today. The board and West Indies Players’ Association (WICB) are still negotiating to reach a possible solution.

Saeed Ajmal is perhaps the brightest spin hope of Pakistan cricket team at this moment. Specially, the off spinner showed excellent improvement in the recent ODI series against Australia in UAE. However, during the second ODI, Saeed Ajmal was reported by the umpires for suspect bowling action of his ‘doosra’ deliveries. However, the player has now been released from the suspicion by biomechanic expert Bruce Elliott. Mr. Elliott has recently send a report to PCB stating that there is no problem with Ajmal’s action for the doosra deliveries. This is good news for Pakistan ahead of twenty20 world cup 2009 which kicks off from 5 June in England and Ajmal is the only specialist spinner in the squad. Hotel Industry in Nepal Suffering from Global Recession

There is nothing to be shocked about this news. Nepalese economy is dependent on tourism and almost 7 of the top 10 mountain peaks in the world are in Nepal. So, it is natural that during time of economic recession the tourism industry is suffering. Nepal may be a very poor country but it has some excellent hotels. It is not only the economic recession that is creating all the problem. Electricity is a problem for the hotels too as Nepal cannot produce enough electricity.

Besides these domestic irregularities, the hotel industry is also suffering due to the cascading effects of the global economic meltdown," he added.

At the time when the business communities in Nepal have asked the government to help to tackle the adverse business climate, the HAN has also articulated the hardship in the hotel industry.

After frustrating performance in the two Twenty20 matches, Indian cricket team today did something amazing and completely outplayed New Zealand in the first one day international match earlier today. The winning margin was very good in the end but you have to admit that more credit should go to rain rather than the performance of Indian players. Of course the Indian players played very well and they certainly outclassed New Zealand in every department.

Afghanistan Dreaming of Qualifying for 2011 World Cup Cricket

Afghanistan, the war-torn country, is now dreaming to qualify for the 2011 World Cup cricket in what would be their first ever world cup qualification. Afghanistan has just won the World Cricket League Division 3 tournament defeating Cayman Islands by 82 runs, and thus, they have qualified for the final qualifying tournament which will be held in April this year in South Africa. Afghanistan earlier won the Division 5 in May last year and then won the Division 4 tournament last October. However, Afghanistan was lucky that they managed the berth from the Division 3 on net run rate. Besides Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea and Uganda also finished with three points, but Afghanistan clinched the top spot on net run rate. Uganda qualified for the final tournament as the tournament runners up. Captain Nowroz Mangal is very much happy with his team, stating that his team showed their best in difficult positions.

Graham Ford Reveals Interest in England Coaching Job

Graham Ford, former coach of South Africa, has expressed his interest to become the next coach of England national team. However, he does not want to rush for the job before knowing if he would get full support of the players. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has recently sacked Peter Moores in the wake of his fall out with Captain Kevin Pietersen. Pietersen also resigned as England captain for the same incident recently. The conflict between captain Pietersen and Coach Moores reminds me of the much-talked about coach-captain conflict of South Asian cricket power India. I can remember that former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was dropped from the team following his fall out with the then Indian coach Greg Chappell.

ECB named Andrew Strauss as the new captain ahead of England’s West Indies tour, but there will be no interim coach for the West Indies tour. ECB is still in search of a new coach for England cricket team. Graham Ford is currently working with English country team Kent. Ford coached South Africa national team from 1999 to 2001, guiding them to win 8 out of 11 series during his tenure as South Africa’s coach.
