Compound teams wins three Bronze medals in World Archery 2013 Youth Championships

Indian Compound Junior Men’s Team Won BRONZE medal after defeating Great Britain by 229-222. Indian team comprise of Rajat CHAUHAN, Jignas CHITTIBOMMA and Sudhakar Kumar PASWAN . Earlier India lost to Mexico in close fight by 231 – 233.

Indian Compound Junior Women’s Team won BRONZE medal after defeating Mexico by 223-214 in bronze medal match. Indian team comprise of Jyothi Surekha VENNAM, Jayalakshmi SARIKONDA and Swati DUDHWAL. In semifinals India lost to USA by 225-221.

2013 South Asian Games

The 2013 South Asian Games, officially the XII South Asian Games, is an upcoming major multi-sport event, scheduled to take place in Delhi, India in February, 2013. With this edition of the Games, India becomes the second country to host the Games three times (the previous editions being held in Kolkata in 1987 and Chennai in 1995), after Bangladesh. It is also the first time that Delhi will host the Games. The Games witnessed a change in the original host country, and faced delays which pushed back the conduct of the Games by several months.

After India, Sri Lanka completed its 100 medals mark in 11th SAG in Dhaka today. Sri Lanka won 16 Gold, 33 Silver and 51 Bronze medals to complete this feet. India is the Only other country to complete Total 100 Medals. Currently India is heading towards 100 Gold medal mark

Football: Bangladesh Wins Gold

Bangladesh reclaimed the coveted football gold medal of the SA Games after a span of 11 years with a facile 4-0 victory over Afghanistan in the final held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.

Atikur Rahman Mishu, Enamul Huq, Abdul Baten Komol and Towhidul Alam Sobuj struck for the champions who dominated all the way through and presented the host country the 18th gold medal of the meet. Bangladesh wrapped their campaign with the gold medal believed to be the most precious of the sports extravaganza.

Bangladesh booters produced excellent commitment, maintained the same rhythm and were focused to their duties that categorically made the difference. Afghanistan had very little space to show their abilities and their in form forward Belal Arezou who scored nine goals in their way to the final failed to put any impact in his teams attacking aspirations.

Bangladesh reaped the fruit of their incessant onslaught in the 18th minute through midfielder Mishu. Defender Nasir produced another of his dazzling footwork to dribble past two Afghan defenders and finding no way to halt Nasir the Afghan defense hurled him down at about 20 yards off the post. Before Waly Faisal curled the free kick Mamunul Islam and Emily dummied the shot that left the Afghan defense puzzled.
Mishu anticipated the flight and put a delicate header in the right hand post of Afghan custodian Bashir Ahmad.

Bangladesh did not put any respite in their attacking flair and continued the exploration in the opponent defense. Enamul the agile forward unleashed a fierce side volley from the middle of the box in the 24th minute but saw his effort fly past the side post.

The thirst for the title kept the Bangladesh booters on their toes and it paid the dividend. Bangladesh doubled the lead in the 33rd minute. Left winger Shakil sprinted at his level best to take control of an Enamul cross and turned it into a neat center that beat Bashir in air and Enamul had all the time to head the ball home.

Afghanistan remained cornered in the own zone creating little headache for Bangladesh. Their forwards tried to use the flanks with the long ball but it turned naïve. Bangladesh took time in the dying stage of the first half and waited for the spaces for counter attacks. Emily was unfortunate in the 40th minute when header off a Shakil cross bounced over the crosspiece of substitute Afghan custodian Fradon Khatibi.

After the change of ends Bangladesh tasted the Afghan flair for a while and Aminul was savior as usual. Faisal Shahzada headed a neat Wahid Nadeem cross in the 58th minute but Aminul stretched to limit in the right side to punch the ball to safety.

Serbian coach Djordevic inserted fresh attacking duo of Mithun and Komol in the last half hour mark taking off Emily and Enamul and it worked again. Komol who was running behind the ball all through the pitch fired the third goal in the 69th minute. Afghan defence line faltered to clear a Mishu freekick from the right flank and Komol taking the ball turned 90 degree blasting the ball into the roof of the net.

Two minutes ahead of the stipulated time substitute forward Towhidul Alam Sobuj put the final nail in the Afghan coffin after Fradon Khatebi let a Komol drive slip from his grip and nearby standing Sobuj headed it home.

5 more Gold fro Nepal

Nepal increased its gold medal haul to seven on Monday in the 11th South Asian Games in Dhaka. Deepak Bista, Ayusha Shakya, Binod Shakya and Ganga Adhikari added to the two gold medals that Nepal won on Sunday.

Deepak and Ayusha won a fourth and fifth gold medals for Nepal both in taekwondo this afternoon whereas Binod and Ganga claimed the 6th and 7th gold medals in karate.

Earlier on Monday morning wushu player Angbabu Lama bagged Nepal’s third gold medal.

Meanwhile, Deepak Bista created history after defeating a Bhutanese player in the final in the under 87kg category of taekwondo to win a fourth consecutive gold medal at the South Asian Games.

Binita Maharjan on Sunday won the first gold medal for Nepal in the Women’s Thaulo (Taichi Quan) in Sylhet.

Likewise, Sunil Lama, in the men’s U-55 kg Kumite won the second gold medal for Nepal.

However, the taekwondo gold medal winner in the last SA Games Manita Shahi could not repeat her feat in last SA Games after she lost in the finals today.

Indian Swimmers wins 4 more Gold

Indian swimmers concluded their campaign at the 11th South Asian Games in style, winning four more gold medals with a new meet record and took their overall tally to 25 here today.

India also bagged a silver to sign off from the event with a haul of 16 gold, seven silver and two bronze medals.

Thus Indian swimmers reigned in the pool in 16 of the 19 competitions held.

In the 50m breaststroke, Arjun Jaya Prakash shattered the 30.43 record held by Mohammad Shahajahan Ali Rony of Bangladesh as he clocked 30.04 en route to the gold medal.

Local lads Mohammad Shahajahan Ali Rony (31.04) and Mohammad Kamal Hossain (31.05) took the silver and bronze respectively.

Having made a national meet record in the 50m butterfly, Shubha Chittaranjan picked her second gold medal when she finished first in the 50m freestyle with a timing of 27.98s.

India beat Pak, bag SAG volleyball gold

India defended their volleyball gold medal by defeating Pakistan in the final by 3-1(23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-16) in the South Asian Games at the Mirpur Shaheed Sohrawardy Indoor Stadium here.

Subba Rao, Ukkara Pandian Sanjay Kumar, Naveen Raja Jacob and Srikanth were the stars of the show, as well as the Indian Senior Men's Team.

Subba Rao played extraordinary in blocking while Ukkara Pandian created some excellent set-ups and adding to the game plan were some extraordinary counter attacks by Naveen Raja Jacob and Srikanth which enabled the team to win with formidable margin.

Indian coach G.E.Sridharan said, “Our hard work has paid off. The key to our success was our attack. Our blockers also stepped up in the finals blocking Pakistan attackers on a regular basis.”

Football: Indian Womens Wins Gold

India Senior Women won the 11th South Asian Games women’s football tournament registering a comfortable 3-1 victory against Nepal in the finals played at Bangabandhu Stadium here on Monday.

It was Nepal who took the lead but India Senior Women came back strongly to level the terms when Bembem Devi converted from the spot as first half ended 1-1. India Senior Women stepped up the pressure on their opponent and scored two more goals in the second half through Naobi Chanu to register a historic win.

India Senior Women emerged invincible winning all their matches and altogether scored 29 goals in five matches.

Besides Gold, India were also awarded the Fair Play trophy.

Shehan and Naseem fastest man and women

Shehan Saearuwan Abeypitiyage of Sri Lanka and Naseem Hamid of Pakistan emerged as the fastest man and woman of the 11 SA Games winning the 100 meter sprint with a timing of 10:46 and11: 81 seconds respectively on Monday 07 February 2010.

Both the results were regarded as upsets as Shehan toppled India’s Abdul Najeeb Qureshi who won the 200 meter defeating Shehan and was regarded as the hot favourite.

On the other hand a woman from Pakistan winning the 100 M sprint was unimaginable as it did not happen before and the Pakistani women sprinter were never in the fray of the winners in the 26 year history of the SA Games. Naseem blazed the track to create a piece of history on the track of the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Pakistan retains Hockey Gold

Pakistan retained its gold in the hockey event of the South Asian Games defeating arch rival India 4-3 in tie-breakers in the final at Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday 07 February 2010.

The match rolled into the tie-breakers after the regulation and extra time ended in a one-all draw.

India tried to subdue the Pakistanis from the beginning with a flurry of moves and took an early lead when skipper Ajitesh Roy scored from a penalty corner just six minutes after the push-off.

Pakistan players toiled hard for an equaliser in the remainder of the first session but their efforts went futile as their goal-shy forwards frittered away some easy chances.

Pakistan, which lost to India 5-1 in the preliminary-round match, started to gain rhythm as the second half wore on and the defending champions returned to the contention when Wasif Siddque converted a penalty corner on 45 minutes to put the match on an even keel.

With the regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw and the extra 15 minutes also failed to separate the two teams, the play moved into the tie-breakers.

Wasif Siddique, Kashif Javid, Tasawar Abbass and captain Sabtain Raza scored goals in the shoot-out, while Zeeshan Ali missed the target for Pakistan.

V. Raghunath, Innocent and Vikash scored for India, while Pakistan goalkeeper Imran Butt foiled the attempts of Varinder and Dharamveer Singh to bring off the second successive gold in the South Asian Games for his country.

Bangladesh wins Bronze in Hockey

Bangladesh staged a brilliant comeback to score a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Sri Lanka to reclaim the bronze medal in the hockey event of the 11th South Asian Games on Sunday 07 February 2010.

Bangladesh successfully negated its first half deficit and emerged winner when Ashiquzzaman and Mamunur Rahman Chayan scored goals in the second half of the third-place play-off match at Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka.

It was a sweet revenge for the hosts who lost their bronze to the same opponents in 2006 Colombo South Asian Games.

Bangladesh coach Gerhard Peter Rach said it was the outcome their hard work. “We worked hard to regain bronze. It was our commitment. Boys put a lot of efforts and got the reward. It would have been more happier for me if we would have won the silver,” the German said.
