We will be combining forces with local User Groups like LA C#, OC.NET and several others.

Microsoft Product Team Members Chris Burrows and Jason Malinowski will be presenting the latest and greatest developer tools as well as guidance and best practices on how to put them to use.

Topic #1: Getting to Know C# 4.0
With the release of C# 4, the language gives the programmer the ability to more fluently interact with external data models using a few new features, including "dynamic" by way of the Dynamic Language Runtime. This brings the .NET programmer closer to Python and Ruby when they need it, and it gives them a better experience with COM interop and other dynamic data, such as XML. I'll discuss this and the rest of the new features and experiences you can expect with the release of C# 4 and Visual Studio 2010, with an emphasis on how they are designed and how they work.

Topic #2: A Tour of Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2010
Visual Studio 2010 brings several enhancements to Visual Basic designed to let you write code faster than before. I’ll demonstrate how the new language features allow you to reduce the amount of code you write, and how you can consume the new Dynamic Language Runtime in VB. I’ll also show how new IDE features, like Highlight References and Navigate To, let you quickly move around in your projects and how Generate From Usage means you’ll never have to write a class declaration again!

5/13/2010 : WPF MVVM Made Easy

Are you struggling with how to use MVVM? Feel confused by all of the (overly complex) MVVM patterns and tools out there? If so, you are not alone. However, MVVM does not have to be hard. In fact, if you are willing to not take a purist approach, then MVVM becomes very easy to do. Some of the main goals of MVVM is to help you develop code that is testable and re-usable. In this seminar you will learn step-by-step how to get to MVVM quickly and easily.
You will Learn :
<ol
>
How MVVM will help you develop better applications

Step-By-Step approach to MVVM

A sample MVVM application

Take away :

Sample MVVM application that you can use as a model. You will also get some base classes that will help you develop MVVM applications.

4/8/2010 : Creating iPhone applications with C#, .NET and MonoTouch

Many .NET Developers have wanted to get into iPhone application development, but have been deterred by the learning curve of Objective-C and the Cocoa Touch Framework. This session demonstrates how you can use your .NET skills in creating native iPhone applications using C#, the .NET Framework, as well as standard iPhone development API’s by means of the MonoTouch Framework and MonoTouch tool set. You will learn the basics of building, testing, and deploying iPhone applications as well as a guided tour of Apple’s Interface Builder from a certified Apple iPhone Developer, so you can get up and running quickly and enter this exciting, new development environment.

3/11/2010 : New Features in SSRS 2008 and 2008 R2

The release of SSRS 2008 and the upcoming release of SSRS 2008 R2 mark a huge upgrade in the type of functionality that is now available when it comes to Reporting on the Microsoft SQL Server Platform. If you have not looked at Reporting Services since 2005 you are potentially missing out on some great features. In this session we will cover all the great new features in these two versions of SSRS. Just to name a few of the improvements we will cover: Charting Enhancements, Tablix Control, Data Feeds, Report Parts, and many more.

2/18/2010 : No Meeting

1/14/2010 : Simplify XML processing using LINQ to XML

LINQ technology in .NET 3.5 has some great hooks into XML that make using XML documents a breeze. This seminar will explore how you will put this technology to work in your applications. Many XPath queries can be greatly simplified using LINQ. Besides the obvious advantages of using LINQ to iterate over XML data you can also use it to create and process XML documents. One great way you can use XML is in prototyping, another is to merge XML data with Word 2007 documents. In this seminar you will learn to use LINQ to XML for real world applications.

11/12/2009 : RAD MVC - Getting Up to Speed with ASP.NET MVC Rapid Application

Nuri Halperin and Steve Bearman will build a complete and practical ASP.NET MVC application, from start to finish, showing rapid application development (RAD) with MVC, complete with an Entity Framework data access layer and humor.

This is *the* jump-start presentation to get you actually going with MVC. The presentation is both practical and enjoyable, with well motivated steps and an interesting presentation. In each major area of development we clearly show what to do and how to leverage what Microsoft provides. We give the steps and recommend best practices.

The MVC framework is even better than we all expected.

10/8/2009 : Web Application Testing using WATIN

Web application testing is a tough task especially in the ASP.NET web forms environment where model‐view‐controller boundaries intermingle. To solve this presentation is a premier to WatiN (inspired from WatiR, its Ruby counterpart), a feature rich and stable framework. WatiN is developed in C# and aims to bring you an easy way to automate your tests with Internet Explorer and FireFox using .Net. Watin is open‐source functional testing tool for web‐applications which simulate the user actions (filling/submitting form), drives the browser and allows you to do your web application testing in a convenient and developer friendly way. This talk focuses on how you can use WatiN to do web application testing and integrate it with your acceptance testing framework. The presenter provides a step by step guide to build test frameworks for your website using WatiN. This is a code intensive talk so those allergic to slides are encouraged to come.
