Pride meeting is next Monday, 21st, 5:15pm at the library conference room, downtown Mankato. Agenda is to help new committee members get off to a good start with festival planning. If you have interest in joining a committee, please plan on attending the meeting. If you are in charge of a committee, please take a few moments to look over the documents from 2011 festival so that we can answer any questions you might have. See you next week!

Folks – We need some more people interested in working on this festival and taking over leadership of the organization. The interim board period ends in June and board recruitment has not produced what we need in board members. If you are interested in seeing Pride continue YOU need to step up! Theme ideas needed for 2012 SCMN Pridefest!

We are looking for catchy, meaningful theme ideas for the Pridefest in Mankato, MN! Finding the perfect theme is important as it is the basis for organizing the rest of the festival. Other organizations also use this theme in their preparations for participating in the parade and booths.

So we are looking to YOU to help us create the theme for this year! We are thinking that it might have some political meaning because of the marriage amendment that is on the ballot coming up in the November elections.

Please submit your theme idea to festival@scmnpride.org, post a comment to this post, or post a comment on our Facebook wall. We will be deciding the theme this Saturday, March 31, so get your ideas in before then!

Southern MN is Critical – Update from Outfront MN

Leading Minnesota Toward LGBT Equality

Southern Minnesota is critical.

Southern Minnesota is a critical battleground in every election. Because southern Minnesotans range from very conservative to very liberal, it can be difficult to be vocal about equality, but it’s important. That’s why I’m reaching out to you today—we need more folks from Southern Minnesota at Lobby Day.

When we won the fight to add sexual orientation and gender expression to the Minnesota Human Rights Act, we did it by sharing our lives with legislators. We showed them that LGBT couples lived, loved, and worked in every community in Minnesota.

Defeating the marriage amendment will require sharing our lives with our friends, family, and neighbors. We have to come together and personally committed to changing Minnesota for the better. The journey toward a state where all Minnesotans have the strength, power, and confidence to make the choices right for their families doesn’t start on March 29th, but it will be a watershed moment. OutFront Minnesota and Minnesotans United for All Families will offer trainings to sharpen our skills and ensure that we all go home ready to win in November.

Defeating the amendment it won’t change the state: it will be the proof that we already have. Will I see you with us at Lobby Day?

Meeting Minutes and Volunteers Needed for Dance!

Here are the meeting minutes for 1-24-12

We are also in need of volunteers for the February 4 dance. We need some to staff the table where people pay to get into the event from 9-10 and from 11-12. If you are able to do this, please email festival@scmnpride.org and let us know what shift you can work. Dance volunteers will be able to get in for the $5 ticket price regardless of if they have purchased a ticket in advance or not.
