Indigo Girls in Concert

Mankato Pridefest and the City of Mankato presents the Indigo Girls in concert.

Vetter Stone Amphitheater, Riverfront Park.

Friday, September 7. 7pm.

Don’t miss this first ever, historic Pridefest kickoff concert featuring the folk duo, the Indigo Girls. Sponsored by the City of Mankato in conjunction with Mankato Pridefest and South Central MN Pride, the Indigo Girls will be a show you don’t want to miss.

Tickets are $35, general admission, all ages show. Tickets on sale now and are available at the Verizon Wireless Center Ticket Office and all Ticketmaster locations. Charge by phone at 800-745-3000 or online at ticketmaster.com.

Start time, 7pm. Vetter Stone Amphitheater, Riverfront Park, Mankato.

No coolers, outside food or beverage or pets allowed. Shuttles will not be running for this event.

About the Indigo Girls: Amy Ray and Emily Saliers first met in elementary school in Georgia. It was only a matter of a few years before they began to perform together as high school students in the Atlanta metropolitan area. They later released a self-produced full length album in 1987 and then contracted with a major record company in 1988. However, these women are more than just incredible musicians. Each of them have accomplished a number of tasks including founding a nonprofit organization, opening a restaurant, as well as becoming accomplished writers. On their fourteenth studio album, the Grammy-winning folk-rock duo delivers a beautifully crafted batch of songs that revel in spirited simplicity. Alternating richly textured storytelling with moody ruminations on modern-world worries, Beauty Queen Sister reveals a fierce longing for a more idyllic existence while still celebrating the extraordinary in everyday living.

Next Pride meeting May 21st

Pride meeting is next Monday, 21st, 5:15pm at the library conference room, downtown Mankato. Agenda is to help new committee members get off to a good start with festival planning. If you have interest in joining a committee, please plan on attending the meeting. If you are in charge of a committee, please take a few moments to look over the documents from 2011 festival so that we can answer any questions you might have. See you next week!

Meeting is at the Blue Earth County Library and starts at 5:15pm. Those that were interested in helping out Pride with either the Board or with working on the festival please attend and we can give you more information!

Folks – We need some more people interested in working on this festival and taking over leadership of the organization. The interim board period ends in June and board recruitment has not produced what we need in board members. If you are interested in seeing Pride continue YOU need to step up! Theme ideas needed for 2012 SCMN Pridefest!

We are looking for catchy, meaningful theme ideas for the Pridefest in Mankato, MN! Finding the perfect theme is important as it is the basis for organizing the rest of the festival. Other organizations also use this theme in their preparations for participating in the parade and booths.

So we are looking to YOU to help us create the theme for this year! We are thinking that it might have some political meaning because of the marriage amendment that is on the ballot coming up in the November elections.

Please submit your theme idea to festival@scmnpride.org, post a comment to this post, or post a comment on our Facebook wall. We will be deciding the theme this Saturday, March 31, so get your ideas in before then!
