Dixie Highway a few blocks south of Miami Gardens Drive in North Miami Beach. Several food blogs have spotlighted this small place as possibly having the best pizza in South Florida. I finally had a chance to drop in and pick up a slice and talked with Rob, the owner for a few minutes.

I ordered my slice of cheese pizza to go as I had an appointment several miles away and took my first bite as I headed towards I95. I was totally surprised with the first bite. The crust held up well and had a perfect crunch as a bite snapped off in my mouth. The robust tomato taste was immediately followed with the feel and taste of melted mozzerella cheese.

The slice only lasted a few blocks as I wanted to repeat that first bite over and over again. The crust had a unique taste that was very good. I have to give Kings County FIVE stars on the pizza.

The only drawback to this place is that there is no eat in area. Take-out and delivery only. Or eat in your car. Either way, I will stop by on my next trip in the area to pick up a slice or three. Kings County Pizza might very well be the Best Pizza in South Florida.

On a recent balmy night Michelle and I headed over to Boca to try out their famous pie. We arrived without a reservation and only waited a few minutes for a table. As customers were leaving I asked about their experience and they all said they loved it! My mouth was watering with anticipation.

The inside was not what I expected. They have a large bar area and tons of tables. It was loud and I felt like I was in a bar more than a restaurant, but if the food prevailed I wouldn't be disappointed.

Michelle ordered a salad and I, of course had the pizza. First of all they don't call it pizza, it's APIZZA, which they explain on the first page of their website. And it is everything they say and more!

Whatapie!

The apizza was delicious but my advice is to eat it while you're there. I took the leftovers home to eat the next day and they lost most of the brick oven taste that I loved the night before. I will be going back to Nick's for a repeat performance soon. Let me know if you like it by placing a comment below.
A very unassuming pizza joint, Michelle's was featured in the movie Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts.

The place is always packed and it is very hard to find a table so they just seat you at a table with other people. The menu choices were few and we only wanted a sample so we could return to Florida with bragging rights about eating at the most famous pizza joint in the world.

Julia Robert's poster adorns the wall

We chose a pizza margherita. I think it is the house favorite. Thin pizza dough with some watery sauce and a few slices of fresh mozzarella cheese. Add a sprig or two of basil and it's ready. But it must be cooked in the "wood" oven.

I enjoyed it thoroughly. And it was only Four Euros! Michelle was quite disappointed. I wish I could have eaten more/ When you make to to Napoli be sure to check them out!

This is not your typical pizza joint. You walk in past a tall counter behind which sits the pizza ovens. The place opens up into a large room with a big U shaped bar and several tables. Then when I tasted the food and I KNEW it was different!

I invited Josh, Dale, Sheree, and my three grandsons to try the pizza with me. When everyone arrived we decided to order two extra large 18" pizzas. One with pepperoni and the other a standard cheese and sauce. We ordered them my favorite way: extra thin, crispy, with a slightly burnt edge. They arrived exactly as ordered.

Their pizza is a wonderful blend of perfectly matched ingredients that hit your taste buds like a cannonball.

                                                     Pizza Nirvana!

We gave them a few minutes to cool before serving everyone a slice. Once they were bitten into we all exclaimed on the marvelous taste. The crispy, light crust gave way easily with a slight crunch and the full flavor of the cheese and sauce mixture filled our taste buds. Eureka! I have found Pizza Nirvana!

Both pizzas were devoured in a few minutes so we ordered a third, with sausage, and served it around. The pizza was extraordinary. The tastes and texture were superb. But was it the BEST pizza in South Florida? Or is it the BEST pizza in Boca Raton? I'll have to try out a few more places before I make a decision.

On my last visit I tried one of all time favorites. When made correctly I can enjoy a stromboli as much as pizza. Now don't confuse this with a calzone which is just a folded over pizza with tons of cheese, usually ricotta and a little bit of other stuff.

If you're looking for a stromboli that's loaded with onions, mushrooms and peppers then stay away from Grande. Their stromboli is loaded with meat and cheese! Save the produce for the vegetarians!

The stromboli at Grande is made exactly as I love it. A tight roll with pepperoni, salami, crumpled sausage, and cheese

I was so excited when I got the stromboli I cut off a six inch piece before I snapped the picture. It came with two large beakers of sauce for easy dipping which served to enhance the flavors to astronomical heights.

A tight roll chocked full of meat and cheese!

I can't wait to go back to Grande Pizza Company for another stromboli and some pizza. I think it is quickly becoming one of my favorites! Stop in to their Boca location and hit me up with some comments.
It was a cute romantic comedy called "Friends With Benefits," at the Cinemark Boynton Beach. After the movie, at about 9:30pm, we wanted to find a place where we could get a pizza before going home. Most of the places we have frequented, including Dominic's right across Congress, would be closing around that time but I remembered driving by a place a few blocks away on the North side of Boynton Beach Blvd a block or two East of Congress.

We pulled into the almost vacant lot and were happy to see that Vito's sign said, "OPEN 11am 'til 11pm." We took a seat and ordered a couple of drinks. We checked out the menu and found Vito's to be more than your average pizza joint. They have a full menu, have delivery and do catering. I would really consider buying some trays of food for my next party.

Michelle opted for a bowl of pasta fagioli and I ordered a large pepperoni pizza, extra thin and crispy. Michelle's soup arrived quickly, hot and steamy, just like she enjoys it. She didn't wait for it to cool down; just spooned some into her mouth. She offered me a taste and naturally I obliged. It was a pleasant mixture of spices and herbs and I liked it, but I prefer this soup a lot thicker, filled with pasta and beans.

Next the pizza arrived. Thin and crispy, exactly as ordered, Sal, the pizza-maker and server, placed the pie on the special raised platter on our table and after letting it cool for a couple of minutes we each tried a slice.

The crust was superb. Just like the pizza that I tasted on my trip to NY back in the spring, my bite broke of easily. Not doughy or rubbery. Crisp, like a good pizza crust should be.

I give five stars to Vito's Gourmet Pizza and I am looking forward to the next time when I will try a different combination. Is Vito's the BEST Pizza in South Florida? Or is it the BEST pizza in Boynton Beach?
Let me know.
One of my bloggers asked. "They've got the best pizza in South Florida," he continued.

<img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDKGYMtBtbNXvtXUlbZ5a50eVFt6bdQjeTHqMAJZQye3XlV51okryO1kV-6r_dweeseGrzIVGlQW1GBcvYP8qhtzZs4BxHvN382XDfD4J068j8ah4v-XDcqfuprKKKVtwKE36fpjZigxI/s400/IMG_2853.JPG" t$="true" width="400" />
So I made it a point to check out the pizza at Tucci's, located near Palmetto Park Road and Federal Highway in downtown Boca. It was a little tricky getting there since you can't go North on NE 1st Ave from Palmetto Park Road, so I had to circle a couple of blocks. Parking can be a challenge. Since it was after regular working hours I was able to find a spot in the lot next door.

The place is small with about twelve tables inside and a few tables outside. Even on this sweltering July evening there were some patrons enjoying the hot, humid air outside. I met Dale with his boys, Joey and Dylan, and we took a table near the middle. Our friendly server was there in a flash and we ordered a round of drinks. Unfortunately they were out of apple juice and Joey had to choose a different drink.

There was a very pleasant aroma of baking pizza with a very mild garlic overtone. The best smell in the world. The kids wanted pizza with pepperoni.

Dale and I added a house salad and an order of wings to go along with it.

Salad arrived first: mixed greens, a few slices of tomato, sliced onion, garbanzo beans, olives, gorgonzola, and a couple of peperoncini all mixed in a house vinaigrette dressing. Very tasty. Joey tried some of the tomatoes and a couple of greens, Dylan passed on the salad.

<img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHs8LWI7jeqBAKcCMeSxIfGueGyXDC02QsC6vXHQIPqw7XMZUGT39K7NbS09kFxlG-zGsxbtYA5wtF1iM34x09B_KA_xquTwOq3sIN99tsOKFwnwFmd1H7wGpenWJvh6kJaAqbAlo4nc0/s400/IMG_2857.JPG" t$="true" width="400" />

Next came the wings...

Next came the wings smothered in sauteed onions and roasted garlic cloves. Crispy on the outside they had an immense amount of flavor and were very moist. Dale and I both commented on how good they were.

Several minutes later the pizza arrived with a note of caution to the boys from our server, "it's very hot!"

We each took a slice once it cooled enough for us to touch it. Dylan and Joey immediately started peeling off the pepperoni slices and popping them into their mouths. That's the way they enjoy it most. Once mine cooled a bit more I took a small bite at the point. The dough was crisp and I snapped a bite off letting the flavors linger in my mouth as I slowly chewed and savored the delicious mixture of flavors. Slightly different then all other pizza I have ever had. You could actually taste the sauce, cheese, and pepperoni with each bite. Even the crust was delicious with it's lightly burned edge.

Dylan ate two pieces and split a third with me. Joey ate one and Dale and I had the rest. Once we finished eating, our server cleared the table and delivered the check. Dylan handed him my coupon from South Florida Dines and he returned with the adjusted amount. We left full and happy. But is Tucci's the BEST pizza in South Florida? Is it the BEST pizza in Boca Raton?

Tucci's is worth a try! I think it is one of the best pizzas I've had in awhile. Is it the best pizza in South Florida? Maybe. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
I suggested Commercial Blvd. "Just head west from the Turnpike and we'll go to the first interesting place we pass," I said.

Then Steve saw the sign, "Grand Opening," so we swerved right in and boy am I glad we did.

It was an interesting looking place and there was plenty of parking. John greeted us at the door and directed us to a nice four top in the front section. There were two big private parties going on in the back and people were having a lot of fun.

Our server was right there with the drink order and handed out the menus. Drinks came along with a basket full of fresh garlic bread.

Great tasting garlic bread!

About that time a pizza was being delivered to the table next to ours which was occupied by two lovely ladies. I asked them if the pizza was good here. With no hesitation they affirmed and said it was the best value around: a 16" cheese pie for only $12.50, wow! I knew then exactly what I wanted to order.

16" pizza from the table next to ours

My girls both ordered bowls of Pasta Fagioli and Steve got a bowl of Minestrone. I opted for the house salad with creamy Italian dressing. Michelle raved about the soup and rated it right up there with some of the best she has had. I took a taste and agreed.

I was a little slow with the camera. Most was eaten before I took the picture.

Our 18" half pepperoni, half cheese pizza arrived quickly and was piping hot with delicious looking melting cheese oozing across it. It was cut into eight pretty large slices. After letting it cool a bit I took a small bite and my taste buds came to life.

The pizza had great texture, good ratio of cheese to sauce and very good tasting pepperoni. The crust was well done with just a hint of "toasting" which in my book is as close to perfect as it gets.

This is the EIGHTEEN INCHER!

The pizza was excellent and I give it a super high rating, Like a nine out of ten. I only wish that the crust was a little crispier where you can bite off a chunk more easily.

John's NY Pizza & Pasta just moved here from their Lauderhill location and I am sure all of their regulars have already found the new location at 71st and W. Commercial. Drop on in and tell John you read about it here, at http://www.whiteplatespecial.com/ and let me know if you think John's NY has the BEST pizza in South Florida or the BEST pizza in Tamarack!

Villa Rose Pizza: What's Old Is New Again!

They don't even have a website but this long time Hollywood pizza joint has withstood the coming and going of thousands of other pizza places in the Hollywood area. Why? Because they still make the best pizza in town.
I first started going to Villa Rose in the mid 1980's. At first I was mesmerized by the aromatic smell emiting from this really plain looking storefront on Highway 441. As you go thru the front door you will be totally un-impressed. You pass a long bar with stools on the right and the pizza ovens on the left into the restaurant area which comprises about six or eight small tables. Obviously, a bunch of their business is take-out.

Although this is primarily a pizza joint they also have a small menu of additional items like subs and pasta dishes. But the pizza is the thing to go for! It's thin and crispy and cooked to perfection. My favorite is the Villa Rose Special. When I go with a few people we order the John's Special which is a large pizza and a small pizza. We always make a challenge to someone who has never been to eat an entire small pizza by themselves. If you do it we let you in the Big Boys Club. The pizza is not cut the ordinary way: it's cut into squares.

For several years when I lived in the area I would eat at this place a few times a month. It is my favorite pizza in town and I can't wait to go again. But is it the BEST pizza in South Florida or the BEST pizza in Hollywood? Let me know with your comment.
Worn out hearing it. I almost choke whenever it is uttered. But it will never go away.

"It's the water," they say.
"New York pizza is the best pizza in the world!"
"You can only get good pizza in Chicago!"
"Little Italy, the best!"

The fact about it is that good pizza is everywhere. Good pizza is like music. Each person has their own specific preference for what is the best. One person likes thin and another likes thick. How can you argue?

"If it isn't thin with a crispy crust, piping hot with grease running down your fingers as you try to funnel the tip into your mouth, then it isn't REAL pizza!"

Just like anything else, everyone has an opinion. And when I tell them,"I went to NY. I ate pizza. No big deal. Didn't taste any "better" than what I eat in South Florida at one of my favorite pizza joints."

"Well, then," they reply, "you didn't get it from the right place!"

Now, it's not only the right water, and the right city, but it has to be the right pizza joint!

It’s said to have been made using 500 kg of flour, 800 kg of cheese and 900 kg of tomato paste.
Almost Famous Restaurant

I first learned about Primanti's from the travel network on tv. Primanti's is an old time sandwich and pizza joint with several locations in the Pittsburgh, Pa. They opened a couple of locations in Fort Lauderdale.

They make very unique sandwiches on fresh, thick sliced Italian bread. They add cole slaw and fresh cut french fries to the top of the sandwiches.

I usually get the pizza instead of a sandwich because of its unique taste. I order it my favorite way: well done and crispy and my favorite topping is the little sausage balls. I usually go with friends and we get an 18" Deluxe large pizza with five toppings: sausage, pepperoni, sausage, extra cheese, and sausage!

Everyone's taste buds are different and mine put the pizza from Primanti's near the top of the Best of South Florida pizzas. If you've tried it let me know where you rank it. But iss Primanti's the BEST pizza in South Florida? Is it the BEST pizza in Ft. Lauderdale?

Whenever I have a yearning for a really good traditional pizza I think of this place.
I have tried several of the entrees as well as the daily specials and have found them all to be terrific. And the pizza! The pizza is "to die for" and I think it is one of the best traditional pizza pies in this area. I ask for mine to be "thin and crispy" and Anthony always makes it perfect. I took the picture and I know it looks fake, but believe you me it is the real thing!
