Almost every town in Mallorca has a weekly market; most start early and wind up by lunchtime. The larger markets all follow a similar pattern - fresh produce around the main square, specialist food stall is fanning out from there, then cheap clothes, household goods and craft stalls for the tourists.

cabrera Island

The Cabrera Archipielago which includes Conillera islands, Illa Plana, Illa Foradada, Na Pobre and the islets Pla, Foradat and others, was declared a National Land and Sea Park by the Spanish Parliament in April 1991 for its remarkable scenery and its ecological importance. On the island is a medieval castle-fortress, a hermitage and a monument to the French who were buried there. Cabrera is an island of many historical and poetical evocations.
Today, Cabrera and its islands are one of the principal places visited by enthusiasts of ecological and marine tourism. The visitor to the Island can enjoy its ornithological wealth, its marine depths ans its singular countryside. The Island of Cabrera may be reached by boats which leave every day from Colònia de Sant Jordi's harbour.

Santanyi Village

Santanyí lies 56 kilometres from Palma and includes the villages of La Costa, S'Alqueria Blanca, Cala Santanyí, Calonge, Es Llombards, Cala Llombards, Son Mòger, Cala Figuera, Portopetro, Cala d'Or and Es Cap des Moro. Cap de ses Salines, the southernmost point of the island, is also part of the municipality and offers beautiful rural scenery. The municipality has a coastline of 48.2 kilometres and a surface area of 12,639 hectares.

The village is both interesting and pleasant, with a pedestrian zone and numerous cafés where one can while away some time agreeably, and shops for wandering around. Anyone looking for regional products will be interested to hear that a very famous Mallorcan cheese is produced in this municipality - Grimalt. Another highly-prized product is the Bon Gelat ice cream brand, made using traditional methods. The village offers a diverse range of shops and cultural life. There are art galleries, and a cultural centre which is the venue for exhibitions and other events (Can Jaume Antoni, Calle Portell, 11).

Whilst not very practical as a souvenir, it is interesting to know that Santanyí stone is considered the best in Mallorca. It was used in the construction of some of the island’s main monuments, and abroad, too, such as in the Castel Nuovo of Naples, Italy, for example.

Campos Village

Campos has been a small village since Prehistory, though the origins of the town are from the Middle Ages. There are many details in the streets which move the visitors to former ages. One of these is ´carrer Nou´, named in 1650, with many Gothic houses.

There are also five XVI century defence towers spread across the oldest streets in Campos, being today integrated in houses. The town hall is the most important civil building. It has its origins in 1580. At Convent street there is the old Medieval hospital -Gothic style- being nowadays a center for exhibitions and other cultural events. At the same street there is a Monastery built in 1607 by Sant Francesc de Paula´s monks. The most outstanding feature is its cloister. It is property of the council. Sant Francesc de Paula church was part of the monastery. It has got a XVII century façade and a one-naved basilic ground plan, covered by a semibarrel vault and chapels at the sides.

Sant Julià local temple has its origins in Campos´ foundation, even though its present look corresponds to a XIX century rebuilding. The bell tower was one of the town´s first defence towers and it is the oldest part preserved. Inside there is a big nave with 14 side chapels, with a basilic plant and 25 metres high, covered by a semibarrel vault decorated with stars shapes carved on wood. It helds a local museum with objects and religious works of art from different ages and of great value.

Campos municipal area is flat with a wide rural paths net, well signposted and surfaced with tarmack.
