This year, Southern Districts fielded 4 full teams for WAGFHA’s annual 7-a-side gaelic football tournament.

The grounds were packed with a fantastic turnout, with high paced football played throughout the day.

Competition was fierce, and our lads were eventually knocked out. The ‘Naomh Padraig’ team managed to get to the quarter final, and were just pipped at the finish in a hotly contested match.

The ladies made it to the semi final, playing heroic football.

The level of competition on the day has really spurred both teams on, and they’;ve been training hard since, in anticipation of the father kelly cup and the styart of the leage coming up.

Congrats to Colin Crangle and Conor Molloy for being selected on the Australasian All Stars team at the end of a tough week in Brisbane representing WA.

Unfortunately the WA Mens Footballers met their match in the semi finals.

Training moved back to Shirley Strickland Reserve (Ardross Oval), Ardross

Training has been moved back to Shirley Strickland Reserve (Ardross Oval), Ardross from 5th July 2011.

The Mens team are training from 6.30pm on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

The Ladies team is training on Thursday evenings from 6.30pm.

All welcome at BBQ after training on Thurday 8th July 2011.

Father Kelly Cup 2011

Another great performance by Southerns Mens team to reach the final of the Father Kelly Cup ended in heartbreak. The guys just ran out of legs in the final against Greenwood on Sunday.

Southerns finished the group stages with a fine win over St. Finbarrs to finish 3rd and qualify for the Semi Finals.

They then edged out Morley Gaels by five points to four in an intense compeditive Semi Final.

The ladies team performed well to reach the semi final before bowing out of the tournament.

We’re looking forward to the WAGAA winter league which starts on Sunday 1st May.

St Patrick’s 7-a-side 2011

The mens team performed well on the day defeating Shamrocks in the semi final before just falling short in the final by 2 points.

Southern’s ladies performed admirably in they’re games, clearly showng the effect of new coach Chris Barry’s stewardship.

Alana Michelle Drysdale 8 pound 13 ounces or 4kg head 35.5 cm and 51cm long born at 1.30 on Tuesday the 30th November. Mum and bub doing well.
