Hop City is a wonderful new addition to the Magic City. Hop City's beers are split roughly by style (international, dark, IPA, Belgian, etc); anything more obscure or harder to find will almost certainly be here. They have 60 drafts to go with a choice of 1 litre and 1 gallon growlers which they fill from the bottom up, and a full 3-sink sterilization system which means your draft beer is good for up to 6 months in a cold dark place. Here's a link to another article about the birth of Birmingham's Hop City: http://blog.al.com/businessnews/2011/12/beer_and_wine_store_to_open_in.html

Happiness is like a butterfly; the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder ~ Henry David Thoreau

Hello Everyone!
A great stretch of time has passed since I have posted anything. A lot of changes, growing and opening of the mind have occurred. However, this is something I enjoyed deeply, so I am returning. I began this blog to do photography of fashion on the streets of Birmingham. Slowly, that evolved into my obsession of street art and taking pictures of events and life happening around me in the South. With that said, this first post will be pictures of life through my eyes in the South I have taken in the past few months since my departure. Hope you enjoy!

Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment in Huntsville, Alabama

2011-11-15T10:11:00.000-08:00

Lowe Mill is a historic cotton mill of approximately 171,000 sq ft located at 2211 Seminole Drive, Huntsville, Alabama 35805.

'In 1900, Arthur H. Lowe of Fitchburg, Massachusetts formed Lowe Manufacturing Co, and began the building of Huntsville’s fifth textile mill. Lowe Mill opened in 1901 with 25,000 spindles that helped to turn locally-grown cotton into woven cloth. In 1902, Eastern Manufacturing Company built the final large mill in Huntsville, a weaving mill across from Lowe Mill. Lowe Mill and Eastern Manufacturing merged their companies and the two buildings in 1904. The spinning Mill supplied yarns for the weaving mills, where the highest grade ginghams and shirtings were made to supply large clothing manufacturers throughout the nation.' (Source: Wikipedia)

I put this other shot in because it shows another view of this fabulous painting and notice the little LOVE sign on the table.

'In 2006, Operon Biotechnologies, Inc (now Eurofins MWG Operon) relocated its global HQ and USA production facility to the Lowe Mill’s north wing and Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment in the east and south wings. Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment houses The Flying Monkey Arts Center, Vertical House Records, Susan Knecht Glass Studio & Gallery, Ozaki Fine Art, Amber Brookman, The Wedge–Rita Burkholder, The Dead Workers Party and many more artists. There is a weekly artist market held every Saturday from 12–4 pm and music, film, theatre events every weekend.' (Source: Wikipedia)

Stencil Graffiti of my Former Boss....Richard Scrushy

2011-10-02T16:07:00.000-07:00

Back in 1999, I was a nanny for the 3 youngest of Scrushy's children. I had the privilege (at least what I thought was a privilege at the time) of flying in his private planes to Los Cabos, Mexico and Las Vegas and other interesting experiences while working for him. “There are all kinds of truth ... but behind all of them there is only one truth and that is that there's no truth.” ~Flannery O'Connor
