Free Leadership Development Programme delivered by TIDES Training

This course is open to individuals from across the Southern Cluster with either proven existing interest in constructive Community Leadership or have identified potential and interest in constructive Community Leadership and can commit to and complete this intensive 4 day Leadership Development Programme.  The programme supports and builds the level of confidence in community leaders and champions; enhances local networking and collaborative problem solving.  Details of the modules are outlined below.

The six month project led by Craigavon Borough Council through their Investing in Our Future priority, as part of the PEACE lll Southern Partnership, will commence in March and will run in conjunction with Northern Ireland’s leading film training company Giga Training.  The participants will not only have the opportunity to work with industry professionals but they will receive training, a study visit, a residential and produce films which will be shown at an event to mark the completion of the project in September.

Not only is this a the fantastic opportunity  to work with a professional film makers but through the art of film making consider how they can play a part in building positive relations and tackling the racism,  sectarianism and intergenerational issues which exist within our communities today and importantly see how they can help make a difference.”

The programme has been successful in obtaining funding through the Strategic Grants Programme of the PEACE III Southern Partnership and will be managed by the Council’s Community Services Section.  The programme has received £100,000 from the PEACE III Southern Partnership and supported by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund through the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation (PEACE III) managed by the Special EU Programmes Body. 

The programme will be offered to both schools and public through three key elements:

• Primary School Programme – cross community drama delivered to all P6/P7 students
• Post Primary School Programme – film project addressing sectarian themes delivered to 12 – 16 year old students
• Public Programme – two drama/comedy events addressing shared experiences of “The Troubles” in which the general public will participate

Councillor McCrum stated that “this innovative approach aims to build commonality, rather than difference, utilising humour as the tool to engage and educate children, young people and adults in an interactive programme of meaningful activities”.

 The programme will focus on using the sport of Inline Hockey to bring people together, break down barriers and have a lasting impact within the Southern Cluster area upon community relations.

The aim of the project is to deliver a schools outreach programme, youth engagement programme and ethnic minority programme to enhance cross community relations and aid the integration of ethnic minority groups into local communities.

There will be a Junior Inline Hockey exhibition showcasing the new wheelchair sport of Inline Hockey Sledge.
