Guild Wars Halloween

Guild Wars once again celebrated its annual Halloween festival. Where once a year, Mad King Thorn and his spooky cohort visit the land of mortals for a creepy celebration full of holiday quests, the Costume Brawl PvP event, Halloween-themed guild vs. guild battles, two new costumes, and lots of other tricks and treats! The Halloween event finally came to a close on November 2nd, but SIK managed to have allot of fun while Mad King Thorn played his hellish games.

About the Event

Source: Guild Wars | Halloween Event | Halloween Contest

Here is a small recap of the event:

All Hail the Mad King!

Every year, Mad King Thorn returns to Lion’s Arch and Kamadan to delight and dismay players with his games, jokes, and riddles. Those who participate in the Mad King’s festivities on Halloween take a risk, for the Autumn Lunatic hands out holiday prizes to those who succeed—and instant death to those who fail! Fortunately, the Mad King has decided to grant extra prizes to those who pay close attention this year, so stay on your toes and in front of your keyboards!

Mad King Thorn appears multiple times on October 31 in both Lion’s Arch and Kamadan, always preceded by his undead heralds and accompanied by his nightmarish entourage. Participate in any of his appearances and you’ll earn a special piece of Halloween headwear!

Enter the Costume Brawl

Suit up and join our PvP Costume Brawl, where you can fight your way to rich rewards, dressed as one of many famous Guild Wars characters. We’ve got 20 new characters this year, ranging from Rurik to Reiko! Speak with Bobby [Costume Brawl] in Lion’s Arch, Kamadan, or the Great Temple of Balthazar to get started.

Halloween Quests Galore!

We’re bringing back Halloween quests from years past, so there’s no shortage of fun things to do. Beginning October 24, talk to the candy-coated Mad King’s Steward in Lion’s Arch or Kamadan to begin these quests—if you dare! Be prepared, though, for siding with the Mad King this season may pit you head-to-head with Palawa Joko, the villain everyone loves to hate.

Ghoulish Guild-Versus-Guild

The Halloween spirit has taken hold in guild vs. guild, where we’re swapping out all the NPCs with spooky undead counterparts. Take up arms and join your Halloween Guild Lord, Mad King Thorn, for a pitched battle with extra sweet rewards.

Part 3

So this week has been a rather slow week as far as Aion play goes. The clan has gotten Battlefield 3 and is having fun with that In Aion however the Harvest Revel event has started, its a rather simple event but you can get some rather cute costumes out of it! Not to mention the Halloween event has started in Guild Wars as well, so I’ll be dishing out several Halloween blog post within the week.

For now though, lets see what the witch’s of Aion are up to…

Aion

Source: http://na.aiononline.com/

The Harvest Revel runs from Wednesday, October 26th, 2011 to Wednesday, November 9th, 2011, and is a celebration of spooky fun. Last year, the Pumpkin King’s plans were thwarted by a gang of cheeky Sugarcrooks, and this year old pumpkinhead is nowhere to be seen.

But we’re sure the witches in Sanctum and Pandaemonium can have nothing to do with that. And we’re equally sure that they have only the best, most noble reasons for having you collect souls on their behalf.

To get started in the Harvest Revel Event, you need to be level 10+, to know where exactly to go look at here. Before you get started though make sure you check out the quest and check out the rewards.

Atrum’s Lonely Halloween

I went to do the Shugo part of the Harvest Revel Event on Atrum early in the morning and was pleased to see the Arena where the quest mobs are was nearly empty, leaving room for me to collect ~64 of the items needed for the quest. I was very sad though when I returned during Aion’s “peak hours” to see that the Arena was still empty. It kinda speaks for Zikel’s current asmo population. I managed to get ~100 of the quest items and ~30 of the shugo packs that give out anything from crappy scrolls and manastones to amazing dyes and oufits. I have not turned in the items for the 10 repeat quest for the event dispite having enough for all 10 turn ins because I’m very tempted to just sell them and make kinnah to enchant my gear. Decisions…

In terms of strategies for killing Shugo’s quickly on a Spiritmaster, I’ve found a few things to be helpful. First, take off your weapon because magic attacks don’t effect Shugo’s, at all Use your bare fist and attack speed scrolls to allow you to hit the Shugo’s quickly. They only take 1 damage per hit no matter, so this event is more about the speed in which you attack vs. anything else. Also remember to utilize the tools SM’s have that no other class does, and what I mean by that is SM’s amazing spirits and servants. I actually took off my Infernal Pain stigma temporarily to equip cyclone servants to go along with my normal skill book servants. Between you, your two servants that come out to attack from your normal servant skills, your pet and the 4 cyclone spirits from the advanced stigma, there is a mighty speed boost in killing Shugo mobs. When I was in the arena I saw another Spiritmaster try to put DoT’s on the Shugo’s and go on all out attack mode on them, don’t’ bother, like I said before, magic spells don’t work and you’ll only be decreasing the rate and which you hit the Shugos for one damage.

Nerking Quick Sins

My Assassin’s experience with the event has been very different from Atrum’s. For one, Israphel’s arena on the elyos side is packed. Yesterday at the start of the event was insane, and there was many problems with people ganking people trying to do the event. That has not been a problem today though, I went back into the Arena on my Sin during peak hours on Israphel and while the arena was still packed it was much less so than the previous day, there was also no ganking going on which was nice.

In terms of strategies for Sin’s for the arena, there really isn’t one. The only advice I can give is to have dagger/dagger (even the lvl 5 ones you can get from merchant if you don’t have any). Use run speed and attack speed scrolls to catch and attack the Shugo’s with speed and precision. Use ambush and dash to get to Shugos quickly when they are off cooldown. This event is all about the rate of speed in which you can attack and in that aspect Sin’s made out like bandits in this event.

A Code of Conduct

I have noticed something extremely nice about this event. For the most part (if you exclude the legion that was trying to control the Arena in Israphel yesterday), the Arena’s have shown how polite and courteous the players of Aion can be. For the most part when somebody gets the first shot off on a Shogo everybody else will back off. There are plenty of Shugo’s to go around, even when its extremely crowded, and when you do get that occasional jerk 55 trying to gank the lowbies doing the event you will find usually a few other 55′s will step in to take down the griefer. I never have really looked at Aion’s community as being a good one because after Guild Wars, no other MMO community has shown as much worth to me. This event so far though has definitely helped me see that not EVERYBODY in Aion is a troll.

So if you hop into the Arena for the event, try to be courteous to the people around you and have fun nerking up them bewitching Shugos.

Cya around!
