Kiss This Guy es una web que recoge las letras mal entendidas de la gente y unas anecdotas sobre estas. Es muy divertido y ya hace much tiempo que visito esta web para reirme de vez en cuando.

Me recordó el sitio de web la semana pasada cuando estabamos cenando en la casa de nuestros
veterinarios (Gràcia veterinaris, los mejores) y una canción de Bonnie Tyler salío en la radio.

"It's a hard day...working on the highway" cantó mi pareja y de repente una canción romantica pastelada fue transformado en un hymno al trabajo manual.

¿Que cantabas? pregunté, y ella repitó su interpretación. Mu divertido si piensas las letras originales son "It's a heartache, nothing but a heartache".

Kiss This Guy is a website that collects misunderstodd lyrics from people and some anecdotes about them. It's a lot of fun and it's been some time now since I've visited this site for a laugh from time to time.

I remembered the website last week when we were having dinner with our vets (Gràcia veterinaris, the best) and a Bonnie Tyler song came on the radio.

"It's a hard day...working on the highway" sang my partner, and suddenly a cheesey romantic song was transformed into a hymn to manual labour.

What were you singing? I asked, and she repeated her interpretation. Very funny if you think the original lyrics are "It's a heartache, nothing but a heartache".

Sónar y la maqina

Afortunadamente lo que ví de Sónar el viernes era mucho mejor - la actuación de The Chemical Brothers fue estupendo, con unos visuales fantasticos y un espectáculo de lasers . Y en el espacio de exposiciones, había una systema estraña (como puedes vaer en las fotos abajo) - una maquina que coge el imagen de tu cabeza y unos segundos después proyecta este imagen a la pantalla, con otro cuerpo y como parte de un dibujo animado. Muy divertido y gracioso. Pronto supongo que vamos a ver la versión Playstation y X-Box de esta systema. Ya verás.

Fortunately, what I saw of Sónar on Friday was much better - the Chemical Brothers performance was amazing, with incredible visuals and laser show. And in the exhibition space, there was a strange system (as you can see in the photos above) - a machine that takes the image of your head and a few seconds later projects this image to the screen, with another body and as part of a cartoon. Great fun and very funny. I suppose that soon we'll see the Playstation and X-Box versions of this system. You'll see.

Sónar - empieza mal

Los festivales de música me gustan mucho, y este fin de semana en Barcelona tengo la oportunidad de ir como representante de prensa (official blogger!) a Sónar, el festival de música electronica más importante de Europa (dicen ellos). Empezó mal para mí, sin embargo, ayer en la fiesta de inauguración para la prensa, los collaboradores y las artistas.

Tengo que decir primero que no me gusta mucho el techno, pero también hay que tener el mente abierto y si alguien crea música (música de cualquier tipo) con feeling, interés y creatividad, entonces generalmente esto se nota. Voy al festival a descubrir nuevos sonidos y experiencias musicales, y como ha pasado en otros años, espero que el festival este año no me defraude.

La fiesta ayer, en la sala Razzmataz, empezó a las once y poco a poco la sala llenó con gente. En un momento estabamos sentados en una de las salas pequñas con vista al bar y a los servicios. Nos reímos mucho al ver la cantidad de hombres chulos entrar al baño para mirar a si mismos, bailando y mirando como queda su imagen y su baile. Fue increíble y la mayoría tenían una pinta tan ridícula que parecían malas versiones de el Neng. Y lo peor es que no era cosa del juventud porque había gente de treinta y más años allí también. Todo con un resultado y un ambiente muy cutre.

Espero que eso no es un reflejo del festival en general porqué si lo es voy a reirme mucho y morir de asco a la vez.

I love music festivals, and this weekend in Barcelona I have the opportunity to go to Sónar, the most important electronic music festival of Europe (according to them) as representative of the press (official bloger!) . It started badly for me though, yesterday at the opening party for the press, sponsors and artists.

I have to say first that I'm no techno fan, but it's also necessary to have an open mind and if anyone makes music (any type of music) with feeling, interest and creativity, then generally you can tell. I'm going to the festival to discover new sounds and musical experiences , and as has happened in previous years, I hope I won't be disappointed this year.

The party yesterday, at Razzmataz, started at eleven and little by little the place filled with people. We were sitting at one moment in one of the small rooms with a view to the bar and the toilets. We killed ourselves laughing when we saw how many men who were full of themselves go into the bathroom to look at themselves , dancing and seeing how it looked when they danced. It was incredible and most of them looked so ridiculous that they seemd to be bad versions of 'El Neng' (a spoof of a certain type of techno fan, popular on TV here) . The worst was that this wasn't a folly of youth, as there were people of thrity plus there too. All-in-all the result and atmosphere was really seedy.

I hope this isn't a sign of the festival in general as if it is, I'm going to be killing myself laughing or dying out of disgust.

En general, no me gusta el graffiti, especialmente cuando es feo o crea peor imagen en la zona dondé está, pero a veces encuentras la creatividad en las paredes de la ciudad, como esta:

Primavera Sound, Barcelona festival

Hace una semana fui al festival de música indie Primavera Sound, esta vez en el Forum en vez de Poble Espanyol. El espacio es tan grande que a veces me parecía que no había mucha gente allí. No me gustó tanto como el año pasado. El año pasado descubrí grupos nuevos como 'The Willard Grant Conspiracy', pero este año sólo ví a una artista que no conocía que me interesaba. Ella es Helena Noguerra, es francesa y cantaba en francés, castellano y inglés:

Auna - Una historía interminable de estafa y fraude

No sé si me tranquiliza saber que no somos los únicos que tienen problemas con Auna, el operador de telefonía. Desde noviembre del año pasado nos mandan facturas aunque nos dimos de baja en ese mes. Hemos intentado sin exito llamar, enviar faxes, incluso hablar cara a cara con ellos en su oficina de Barcelona, pero siguimos de alta en su sistema.

Voy a recopilar algunos enlaces sobre los incidencias de esta impresa. Por favor, ¿no hay alguien en Auna que entienda que a largo plazo esta actitud de atención al cliente les va a pasar factura? De todos las compañías que existen en este país Auna es la que huele peor. Auna apesta ¿Qué podemos hacer? Pues, seguir luchando contra ellos y advertir al mayor número de gente posible
y a todos nuestros amigos que este servicio es una autentica estafa. La ley debería tomar cartas en el asunto y llevarlos a los tribunales.

Flamenco en Nou Barris

Ayer fuimos a ver una actuación de flamenco en Nou Barris.
Yesterday we went to see flamenco in Nou Barris (a suburb of Barcelona).

Actuaba Carmen Linares (arriba) y fue especialmente buena. El sitio estaba al aire libre y el ambiente relajado. La actuación duró una hora y fue seguido por baile.

Ángeles Gabaldón bailaba y aunque la música no fue tan especialmente buena, la actuación de ella me gustó (abajo).

Carmen Linares (above) and was particularly good. The place was outdoors and the atmosphere relaxed. The performance lasted an hour and was followed by dance.

Ángeles Gabaldón danced and, although the music was not especially good, I liked her performance (above and below)

La fama - Fame

La fama. Muchos han escrito sobre la fama, y parece que cada vez más la gente quiere ser famosa. He leído en alguna parte que hoy en día en la escuela los niños, cuando el profesor pregunta que quiere ser de mayor, responde 'famoso'. Así que ser famoso ahora es una profesíon.

Fame. Many people have written about fame, and it seems as if more and more people want to be famous. I have read somewhere that nowadays at school children, when asked by the teacher what they want to be when they grow up, answer 'famous'. So, being famous is now a profession.

Hay algo que hago a veces con mis estudiantes relacionado con la fama. Es para animar la discusión en clase y consiste en simplemente preguntarles quien ha sido la persona más famosa que ha conocido en su vida (conocido o visto, claro). Normalmente provoca discusiones interesantes y muchas veces resulta que algunos de mis estudiantes ha conocido personas bastante famosas.

There's something I do occasionally with my students, related to fame. This is to stimulate conversation in class, and consists of simply asking them who has been the most famous person they have ever met (met, or seen, of course). Normally it leads to interesting discussions and many times I have found out that some of my students have met some quite famous people.

Una vez preguntando una alumna, me dijo que probablemente eran sus padres. Sus padres eran atletas de las Olypiadas, pero nunca hablaban mucho de esto con ella hasta el día cuando ella pregntó sobre las medallas que tenían en el salón. Y los padres le dijeron la historía. Otra vez, un estudiante me contó que había sido el numero uno de motos de España en los anos 60. Así que preguntar eso a veces es muy divertido.

Once, asking a student, she told me that it was probably her parents. Her parents were Olympic athletes, but they never talked much about this until the day that she asked about the medals that they had in the lounge. And her parents told her the story. Another time, a student told me that he had been the Spanish motorcycling champion in the 1960s. So, this is sometimes quite a fun thing to ask.

Obviamente, los estudiantes me preguntarían a mí, y tendría que decir que no conocía nadie muy importante o famous. Pero todo eso cambió hce un par de años, cuando tuve la oportunidad de enseñar inglés a una estudiante muy especial:

Su nombre es Rosa y representaba España en el concurso de Eurovisión después de ganar el primer concurso 'Operación Triunfo'. Ella era mi estudiante durante un par de meses solo, después del circo mediatico y cuando estaba recuperandose de problemas con su voz. Era una experiencá interesante, y escribí notas después de cada clases para poder recordarlo. Si alguien está interesado, puedo compartirlo con vosotros aquí.

Her name is Rosa and she represented Spain in the Eurovision song contest after winning the first 'Pop Idol' competiton. She was my student only for a couple of months, after the media circus and when she was recovering from problems with her voice. It was an interesting experience, and I wrote notes after each class in order to record it. If anyone is interested, I can share them with you here.
