Crossbow Fighter-Bomber

2013-08-01T10:10:00.001-07:00

Having just finished my own entry in the tribute to Nnenn Challenge over at the Flickr Starfighter group, I just had to blog this beauty of a ship by Doctor Mobius inspired by Nnenn's VT72 Nenarse.
I absolutely love the shaping, and hints of asymmetrical detailing. It's a fantastic tribute, and does remind me of Nnenn's creations. Nate was and still is such an inspiration to sci-fi builders world-wide.

Continuations of the Starfighter Telephone Game

2013-07-12T12:09:00.000-07:00

See this Flickr group for more information on the starfighter telephone game.

Round 4 of the starfighter telephone game is officially up and running, with Simon Liu, or Si-MOC's M:TRON SV-3 Heisenberg Fighter. He did a fantastic job on this seed starfighter, and I can't wait to see how it evolves as the rounds go on. Oh, and as an added bonus, its swooooshable!

And following up Legovaughan's starfigher, Bart De Dobbelaer has built a beautifully curved, and very original starship! The picture speaks for itself.

Neo Remakes

2013-06-20T12:05:00.000-07:00

If you head over to Chris Giddens, or Fazoom's Flickr gallery, you can see that he's been spending a good amount of time building up an army of Neo Futuron MOCs. Each one is worthy of being mentioned, but I just had to show off his remake of set #6848, the Strategic Pursuer! I love all the round retroness of the MOC, and I would totally march around in one of these if I was a spaceman.

And while I was digging around on Flickr, I stumbled upon this gem by Jimmy Clynche, or Invicta Bricks. Of the many remakes of set #886: Space Buggy, this has to go up there as one of my favorites!

LL-832 Cayman class corvette

2013-06-13T20:39:00.001-07:00

I have been waiting quite a while for the completion of Jeremy Williams, or Bricking on Flickr's LL-832 Cayman. And now that it's finished, I must say it looks spectacular! With a fully furnished interior, airlock hatches, and LL-130 shuttle, this space corvette is not lacking in details! Plus I'm a sucker for neo classic space mocs. Fantastic work as always!

Locations of space

2013-05-31T18:35:00.000-07:00

I must say, It's a lot harder to blog with finals going on, which is just another reason to look forward to summer! I do apologize if I've missed any fantastic builds over the last couple of weeks, but I'll do my best to blog as much as I can! And as always, I find it difficult to pass up a fantastic space scene, so here are two!

Holy cow, this build is huge! And I'm loving every detail. I like it even more with each picture, and the lighting adds a lot. Titled Space Point, via Lukáš Šógor on Flickr.

Equally impressive is the Ion-station by Mark Stafford or lego_nabii on flickr seen below. This MOC is just filled with fun details and ships everywhere! It was on display at skaerbaek in 2011, and is undergoing a complete redesign. I can't wait to find out what Mark has in store for this MOC.

R-type Sparrowhead

2013-05-11T20:57:00.000-07:00

I have to say, M.R. Yoder has been building a lot of cool MOC's lately, but this one really caught my eye. Upgraded from his previous version, the Sparrowhead is loaded with all types of weaponry. And you just can't over look the heavy cannon! What really makes the MOC is the shaping of the whole thing. I love the long rounded cockpit, and the fins sticking out around the rear.

A Classic Redone: The NCS Rocket Launcher

2013-04-27T20:42:00.000-07:00

Lego builder MReizinho has done something I have always considered, and way better than I could ever have done it, in recreating LL-897: Rocket Launcher. This MOC is so fantastic, and you really need to watch the video to see it in action with full suspention, sliding radar, rotating wheeles, and more. I love all the detail in this build, especially on the radar and opening hatch in the front.

Happy Birthday Spacebricks!

2013-04-01T18:34:00.000-07:00

Well, it's official, Space-Bricks just turned one today! It has been a great first year, and I look forward to the next couple as this blog progresses.

Lego galaxy Squad Summer 2013 HR Pics

2013-03-31T17:14:00.001-07:00

For those of you that haven't yet seen the pictures, Eurobricks user GRogall has done it again in bringing us fantastically high-resolution pictures. This time it's this summer's wave of Galaxy Squad sets, and I think they show a lot of promise. Im liking this wave a lot more than the previous one, and I can't help but to hope that we see some sort of base being released for our Galaxy Squad heroes in the near future. Sadly, red team always seams to get the short end of the stick on vehicles! You can discuss this news and see all the pictures over on the Eurobricks topic, or see the full sized images in GRogall's brickshelf.

Feathered hare

2013-03-23T17:20:00.000-07:00

Fred and TTeR both recently got fired from their jobs, so what do they do? They Join in on GARC racing. Shamisenfred has been getting in on the GARC trend by building a starfighter called the Feathered Hare. The gold cooling system with the trans-red cockpit is what really caught my eye, and the photography really draws you in.

Angles!

2013-03-12T18:42:00.001-07:00

Based on concept art by Syd Mead, iomedes !... has created an UBURO class stealth dropship with some of the coolest angles on a Lego spaceship that I've ever seen! Not to mention the fact that it's satisfyingly smooth and stud-less! Every detail is perfectly planned, and so is the use of stickers. Measuring 78 cm long, this is no small MOC, and the set up with the ground crew isn't lacking details either. It's built to go into harsh frozen environments, and is rendered sterile by the use of thermonuclear devises.
I recommend checking out all the angles on iomedes' flickr!

I'll see you on the dark side of the moon...

2013-03-12T18:23:00.003-07:00

Crismo Ginger on Flickr has been building up a HUGE Army of Space Police II builds for the 20th anniversary of the space subtheme. This one, inspired by the moon lander, and a tribute to Neil Armstrong, is full of retro goodness. I definitely recommend checking out all his other SP II MOCs.

The Entangler!

2013-03-11T18:55:00.001-07:00

How awesome is that name? The entangler by Mark Stafford or lego_nabii on flickr is quite a cool crime fighting vehicle. Perfect for all pursuit and capture missions. I wish my table scraps were this cool!

Plus it can do all this!

Old MOC, new tricks

2013-03-10T16:56:00.000-07:00

Sadly this blog hasn't been around long enough for me to have blogged Blake Foster's Neo M:Tron fighter when it first came out three years ago, but now it's been ramped up with some new landing gear, giving me the perfect opportunity! It fits really well, and I can only anticipate what this MOC will look like along with the other parts of a big M:Tron project that Mark has been working on. The suspense is killing me!

March Marchikoma Mech Madness!

2013-03-09T18:35:00.000-08:00

Well, It's Marchikoma everyone! time to start building you variation of a Tachikoma Mech!
How do you make a cool tank look cooler? Add a giant cannon on the front! It sure works on this great MOC of Curtydc's. This build looks polished, and I'm liking every detail! And those treads...!
Curtydc has also built a few more awesome MOCs that are worth checking out in his Flickr!

Giving a T-B0B unit on a walk

2013-03-09T18:25:00.002-08:00

How do you break-in the locomotives and sensors in a T-B0B unit? Just take it on a walk!
Built by Shannon Ocean for Marchikoma.

It's life Jim, but not as we know it

2013-03-09T18:15:00.002-08:00

That name fits this creation so well, I just couldn't change it. Bart De Dobbelaer it becoming a frequenter on this blog by showing us a great variety of MOC's all with fantastic alien atmospheres, and each one different than the last. This one for the Mocathon has some pretty crazy aliens that look like they are about to feast on a puddle of strange alien bog slime. Beneath this build is 9 feet of led wiring, and boy does it add an effect!

FebRovery

2013-02-27T20:35:00.000-08:00

Happy FebRovery everybody! Any month for sci-fi MOCs is a good month for me, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to show some of the rovers built so far.

Some times a good rover only needs two wheels as demonstrated by Ted @nde's Gyro-ver. I love orange colors on sci-fi builds, and the minifigure looks like it was made to be sitting at that wheel!

And of corse we need a little love for Blacktron! Peter deYeule provides this with an epic looking tank equipped with some pretty fierce side guns!

Happy February everyone! And I hope to see more MOCs as the month wraps up!

More Micro Ice bases!

2013-01-19T08:32:00.000-08:00

Its beginning to seem as if Ice planet micro-scenes are becoming a thing! Built for both Iron Builder against Bart De Dobbelaer and for Eurobrick's Micro Sci-fi Contest, Sierrcon and coral on flickr has constructed a fantastic Neo-Ice Planet ice-cave base! The trucks and ships are excellent, and so is the base itself!

In addition to that, builder Eldeeem created his entry to the Micro Sci-fi Contest, featuring some ingenious uses of Modulex in a freighter flying over an ice-planet Biodome!

Endeavoring on strange new planets!

2013-01-19T08:13:00.001-08:00

As far as space scenes go, this one by Heiwa71 is pretty intense! Inspired by the work of David Alexander Smith, I think this MOC speaks for itself in telling a fun NCS story! The backstory goes as follows:

After months of exploration of the Perseus Cluster, the first planet has been located on which signs of life can be detected. This planet has been designated 'PER-1L'.

A dropship with a crew of four has been dispatched to acquire samples for analysis and to establish a monitoring outpost. A remote rocky outcropping has been chosen as a safe location for this task.

The crew of the dropship were delighted to have only been assigned this small rocky outcropping to investigate - they were looking forward to getting back to base for an early lunch. An early lunch seems likely for someone... or something...

I'm not sure which I like better, the creature or the ship, but I can say for sure that I am jealous of Heiwa71's trans-neon green part collection!

Cuusoo news!

2013-01-09T18:52:00.000-08:00

Great news for space fans: both Peter Reids exo suit and HJ Media Studio's Space Marine Project have passed the milestone of 10,000 supporters on cuusoo! Saying the review process is successful, hopefully we can see both of these great models on shelves in the near future.

A City Of Ice

2013-01-09T18:39:00.000-08:00

The Lego site Eurobricks is currently celebrating 'Sci-fi month', and with it a bunch of fun and interesting sci-fi contests for members to take part in! One of which is the micro sci-fi contest, which Lego builder Dark-Alamez has already entered in. Within a 16 x 16 size constraint, Dark-Alamez has built one of the (only) and coolest micro ice planet scenes I have ever seen! This build has it all: skyscrapers, a monorail system, starships, bases, cruisers, greebles, a powerplant, train station, research center, and more! Hard to believe with such a small scale. An entire city/ colony built on a planet of ice! Great work, and good luck, Dark-Alamez!

GARC: The next best thing!

2013-01-09T18:15:00.000-08:00

Over the last couple of days, I've seen an explosion of new sci-fi MOCs falling into a category called GARC.
Here's the a brief overview of what GARC is, according to it's flickr group:

"In the future humans become bored of watching cars zoom around dirt tracks at break-neck speeds. So they look to the stars for their highspeed viewing pleasure, asteroid belts to be specific. Only the best starcraft pilots are ~~crazy~~ brave enough to fly these ships. Turbo charged and wildly painted, they zoom in and around asteroids on death defying courses."

Pretty much anything goes, the crazier the better, but all ships must have a few requirements:

-Must have 2 crew members per ship (pilot & navigator)
-No weapons
-Must look FAST :)
-The crazier the colour scheme the better
-Must post a pic of the ship itself and also a pic of the ship being vigorously swooshed

Well, enough rules! Now on to some incredible builds!

Builder Nate Decastro has been building so many great GARCs, that it was hard for me do decide just which one to post! but alas, I couldn't resist the 'ZX-509 NO HOPE'. One of the hardest constraints when building a GARC is the fact that weapons are prohibited. looking at almost any popular space build, you will see that they probably have some type of lazer blaster or photon cannon. Weapons or no weapons, Nate makes it look great just the same! The 'NO HOPE' has a great streamlined design, fantastic decal work, and interesting bumble-bee stripes in the center just to mix it up. And boy does it look fast!

After stunning us all with the Techno Ohmu, builder Uspez Morbo recently posted pictures of a GARC titled the 'Slammer' with one of the most original designs I have seen! This proves that the 'bugoids' aren't just out to take over the world, but some of them can be good citizens who just want to race! The detail work as well can't go unmentioned. Great work!

And last, but not least: In the category of outrageously awesome designs and color schemes, I think madLEGOman's takes the cake! The originality is fantastic, and like the others, I just want to pick this build up, and run around swoooshing it!

Great work everybody! and I look forward to seeing many more GARCs in the future!

2013

2012-12-31T19:19:00.002-08:00

Happy new years, lego space fans! 2012 was a pretty great year for Lego. Here's a list of some of the major happenings in the Lego world:

-Lego Bricks were voted the #1 toy in a UK TV show called "The Top 100 Greatest Toys"
-Lego celebrated it's 80th anniversary on August 10th
-Many themes were introduced (Build and Rebuild, Dino, disney Prinvess, Forest City, Mining city, Monster Fighters, Pickable Models, Super Heroes, Ultrabuild. The Lord of The Rings, and The Hobbit)
- A few themes were discontinued (Alien Conquest, Atlantis, Design byME, Hero Recon Team, Lego Universe MMOG, Pharaoh's Quest, Harry Potter, Kingdoms and BIONICLE)
-And a lot more!

I thought I'd go ahead and share what the most viewed/ clicked on Lego space MOC on this blog was for 2012....

Drumroll please!

The Tesseract super Capital, by Pierre E Fieschi!
The Mass size and amount of skill used in this MOC won it the place of biggest space MOC in 2012, which isn't a huge surprise by builders like myself who really appreciate just how beautiful this ship is. Its interior was lit up with electroluminescent wiring perfectly, highlighting the interior as well as the exterior!

Happy Holidays!

2012-12-25T19:53:00.004-08:00

Space-Bricks wishes you all a happy and safe holidays! Have fun, stay safe, and expect more posts over the next couple of days.
Cheers!
