BREVARD COUNTY• MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Brevard Symphony Orchestra will present its fan-favorite 4th of July event, Symphony Under the Stars, in partnership with the City of Cocoa, on Saturday, July 4, at 8 p.m. at Cocoa Riverfront  Park.

This concert is free for all attendees, and fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. Guests are welcome to bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the event.

Join BSO supporters,  musicians, and staff at a VIP BBQ at 6:30 p.m. at the Cocoa Civic Center.

Tickets to the VIP  BBQ are $65 for Brevard Symphony Orchestra subscribers, $80 for non-subscribers, and include dinner, dessert, reserved parking, and reserved concert seating.

This year, we welcome guest conductor Gregory Buchalter to the Park’s stage to lead the  BSO in patriotic favorites and family-friendly selections for all ages.

Gregory Buchalter currently holds the title of Music Director and Conductor of both Varna International and  Vero Beach Opera and is in high demand as a guest conductor throughout the world.

Maestro Buchalter has conducted the South Florida Symphony, the Charleston Symphony, and internationally, he recently made his debut with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and conducted performances of the Verdi Requiem throughout Italy.

The Brevard Symphony Orchestra is the only fully professional orchestra in Brevard County and is home to many of Central Florida’s finest classical musicians.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — A motorcyclist was arrested Thursday after Brevard County Sheriff’s deputies say he was clocked traveling 132 miles per hour on Interstate 95, weaving through traffic and splitting lanes.

According to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Deputy Brad McLaughlin of the Traffic Enforcement Unit was patrolling I-95 when he observed a motorcycle rapidly approaching from behind.

The rider, identified as Jonathan Hernandez, was traveling at 132 mph, according to the sheriff.

Sheriff Ivey said Hernandez slowed down after noticing the deputy’s patrol vehicle, but by then the excessive speed had already been observed.

Hernandez pulled over without incident and reportedly told deputies he was speeding because he was late for work.

Sheriff Ivey said Hernandez was also lane splitting and weaving in and out of traffic, calling the behavior “absolutely inexcusable.”

“For his sake, he is lucky to be alive driving like that on a motorcycle, let alone not causing an accident and hurting anyone else,” Ivey said.

The sheriff used the incident as a reminder for motorists to drive responsibly and consider the safety of everyone on the road.

“Please drive safely for the sake of your lives and others,” Ivey said.

Authorities have not released additional information regarding the charges Hernandez may face.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Crydermans Barbecue in Cocoa is celebrating Independence Day weekend with a lineup of limited-time specials, featuring smoked meats and festive desserts available beginning Friday.

The barbecue restaurant’s Fourth of July specials will run Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., or until sold out.

Customers are encouraged to arrive early for one of the weekend’s featured items: Prime Brisket Burnt Ends, a fan favorite known for its rich flavor and caramelized bark.

Crydermans is also offering full racks of ribs available hot or cold and served unsliced.

Specials include the Billion Dollar Baby Back Ribs for $35 and Cheshire Pork Spare Ribs for $55.

To round out the holiday menu, the restaurant is serving two specialty desserts. Nana’s Red, White, and Blue Bread Puddin’ features blueberry bread pudding topped with whipped cream and macerated strawberries in a patriotic presentation.

Also on the menu is Strawberry Crack Puddin’, an elevated vanilla pudding blended with macerated strawberries and topped with dark chocolate caramel crack.

The restaurant noted that all Fourth of July specials are available while supplies last, and popular items are expected to sell out quickly throughout the holiday weekend.

BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – Three men were arrested after gunfire struck an occupied bedroom near the Helen & Allan Cruickshank Sanctuary in Rockledge late Tuesday night, according to the Rockledge Police Department.

Police said officers responded at approximately 9:38 p.m. on June 30 to the 4000 block of Brantley Circle after receiving reports of gunshots coming from the area of the sanctuary.

Investigators determined that at least one bullet broke through the window of an occupied bedroom. No injuries were reported.

Following an initial search and investigation, officers arrested:

– Tynell Omarion Beckwith, 20, charged with shooting into or throwing deadly missiles into dwellings
– Josiah Lee Nieves-Torres, 18, charged with shooting into or throwing deadly missiles into dwellings
– Jamarion Donte Snead, 21, charged with shooting into or throwing deadly missiles into dwellings

Rockledge police said the incident is believed to be isolated, and authorities do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.

The Helen & Allan Cruickshank Sanctuary has reopened to the public, according to police.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Anthony Davis of the Rockledge Police Department at 321-690-3988, ext. 3241.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — The Splash Pad at Cocoa Riverfront Park will temporarily close after Independence Day festivities for cleaning and maintenance.

City officials said the splash pad will close at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, and remain closed through Tuesday, July 7.

The facility is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

The temporary closure is part of routine maintenance conducted after the busy Fourth of July holiday to ensure the splash pad remains clean, safe, and ready for families to enjoy throughout the summer.

Cocoa Riverfront Park is a popular destination for residents and visitors, especially during holiday celebrations and the warmer months.

BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – A United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket carrying the Leo 8 mission for Amazon lifted off on July 2 at 12:30:15 a.m. EDT from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

This mission continues to build on ULA’s increase in commercial launch services, now accounting for half of ULA’s overall business.

“ULA has been a trusted launch partner since the beginning of the Amazon Leo program,” said Gary Wentz, ULA vice president of Atlas and Vulcan programs. “Each launch advances Amazon’s vision for worldwide connectivity, and we’re proud to help build the backbone of their commercial architecture.”

With this launch, ULA has delivered a total of 224 of the 375+ satellites for Amazon Leo, strengthening the foundation of the constellation as it moves closer to commercial operation.

“Atlas V has played a critical role in the early deployment phase for Amazon Leo, launching 224 satellites with a 100% success rate across all eight missions, and we’re excited to build on that foundation with ULA as we transition to Vulcan,” said Melissa Wuerl, Amazon Leo Director of Launch Systems.

Smoke on the Water & Fire in the Sky, Port Canaveral

Kick off the holiday weekend at Port Canaveral during one of the Space Coast’s signature Independence Day traditions.

Hosted by the Cove Merchants Association and Port Canaveral, Smoke on the Water & Fire in the Sky features live entertainment, waterfront dining, and a spectacular fireworks display over the harbor.

Public viewing is available throughout The Cove District. Free parking is offered for patrons of The Cove restaurants, while designated event parking is available throughout the Port.

Visitors should arrive early, as road closures and traffic patterns are implemented before and after the fireworks.

America’s 250 Celebration & Drone Show, Downtown Cocoa Beach

Instead of traditional fireworks, Downtown Cocoa Beach will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with one of the area’s most unique holiday events.

Families can enjoy live music, carnival midway games, a Kid Zone, food and entertainment, photo opportunities, and a spectacular synchronized drone show beginning around 9 p.m.

It’s a modern celebration honoring our nation’s milestone anniversary while creating a memorable experience for all ages.

Saturday, July 4

MelBOOM, Melbourne

Melbourne’s annual MelBOOM celebration returns to Front Street Park with food vendors, family activities, entertainment, and one of Brevard County’s premier fireworks displays over the Indian River.

This year’s event also celebrates America’s 250th birthday, making it one of the area’s signature Independence Day celebrations.

July 4th Symphony Under the Stars, Cocoa Village

One of the Space Coast’s most beloved traditions returns as the Brevard Symphony Orchestra performs patriotic favorites at Cocoa Riverfront Park.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a free outdoor concert before fireworks begin over the Indian River around 9:15 p.m. Food trucks and family activities make this a favorite annual event.

Red, White & BOOM, Titusville

Titusville’s Red, White & BOOM celebration includes an America 250 parade, live entertainment, family activities, and a spectacular fireworks finale along the waterfront.

It’s one of the largest Independence Day celebrations on the north end of the Space Coast.

Independence Day Celebration, Palm Bay

Palm Bay’s annual Independence Day Celebration at Eastern Florida State College offers free admission, live entertainment, food vendors, children’s activities, and an evening fireworks display.

Bring chairs or blankets and enjoy one of South Brevard’s most popular family events.

Great American Celebration, Viera

Viera’s annual Fourth of July celebration returns with family activities, entertainment, food vendors, and fireworks, making it another excellent option for celebrating Independence Day on the Space Coast.

The event remains one of Central Brevard’s favorite community traditions.

Tips Before You Go

Arrive early, as many parking areas reach capacity well before sunset. Bring lawn chairs or blankets, stay hydrated, and prepare for warm July weather. Expect heavy traffic immediately following fireworks displays, and check each event’s website for parking maps, schedules, and weather updates before heading out.

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Governor Ron DeSantis announced the State of Florida’s intent to implement its new statutory authority to identify, designate, and combat terrorist organizations operating in Florida, marking the first use of powers established by HB 1471.

“Last December, I signed an Executive Order to eliminate the influence of radical terrorist ideologies and the organizations that promote them in Florida. This year, I signed legislation to strengthen those protections and give Florida permanent statutory tools to combat terrorism while defending the Constitutional rights of our citizens,” said Governor DeSantis. “Today, we are officially designating terrorist organizations under Florida law. In addition to CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood, we are adding Antifa to the list—along with more than 90 Foreign Terrorist Organizations, including cartels.”

Since taking office, Governor DeSantis has prioritized protecting Florida’s institutions, safeguarding constitutional rights, and preventing foreign and extremist influence from taking root in the state.

Last December, Governor DeSantis signed an Executive Order directing state agencies to eliminate the influence of radical terrorist ideologies and organizations operating in Florida.

The order designated the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as terrorist organizations for purposes of state executive action and directed state agencies to deny taxpayer funding, contracts, employment, and other public support where authorized by law.

State and local agencies were also instructed to use every lawful tool available to prevent terrorist organizations from operating or gaining a foothold in Florida.

“Keeping our community safe starts with identifying the threat,” said Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Mark Glass. “The safety of our community is strengthened by that knowledge every day, and reinforced by the collaboration between our officers, our federal partners, and—most importantly—the people we serve.”

Florida has also acted to eliminate foreign influence within public institutions.

The state has prohibited colleges and universities from entering into agreements with institutions affiliated with foreign countries of concern, restricted the use of taxpayer funds for programs benefiting foreign adversaries, and taken action to prevent extremist organizations from operating on public campuses.

Earlier this year, Governor DeSantis signed HB 1471, creating a permanent statutory framework to combat terrorism while protecting the constitutional rights of Floridians.

The legislation:

–  Establishes a formal terrorist designation process through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

– Prevents taxpayer-funded institutions from supporting or promoting designated terrorist organizations.

– Ensures foreign or religious legal codes cannot override the United States or Florida Constitutions in Florida courts.

– Creates state enforcement mechanisms and criminal penalties for providing material support to designated terrorist organizations.

Under the new law, the Governor and Cabinet may designate terrorist organizations based upon recommendations from the Chief of Domestic
Security within the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The framework allows Florida to recognize federally designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations while also identifying additional organizations that threaten the safety and security of Floridians.

Today, based on recommendations from Florida’s domestic security professionals, Governor DeSantis announced the intent to designate the following organizations under Florida law:

– Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)

– Muslim Brotherhood

– Antifa

Florida has also received recommendations to designate more than 90 Foreign Terrorist Organizations under state law, including but not limited to:

– Cartel de Sinaloa

– Tren de Aragua

– Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)

– Cartel del Noreste

– Cartel del Golfo

Upon confirmation by the Florida Cabinet, these designations will carry the full force of state law. State and local governments will be prohibited from providing taxpayer funding, contracts, or other public support to designated organizations.

Public colleges, universities, school districts, and other publicly funded institutions will be prohibited from using public resources to support or promote designated organizations.

Organizations designated under Florida law may also be subject to dissolution as provided by statute, and individuals who knowingly provide material support or resources to designated organizations will face criminal penalties established under Florida law.

BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – SpaceX’s Falcon 9 is targeting the launch of 29 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

The launch window is open from 6:36 a.m. to 10:36 a.m. ET

This will be the 13th flight for the first stage booster supporting this mission, which previously launched SES O3b mPOWER-E, Crew-10, Bandwagon-3, mPOWER-D, CRS-33, and seven Starlink missions.

Following stage separation, the first stage will land on the A Shortfall of Gravitas droneship, which will be stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.

Also on board this mission is Besxar’s Fabships, two pilot reusable manufacturing pods.

The Fabships have been integrated onto the Falcon 9 first stage booster to test their ability to withstand launch and re-entry environments, kicking off a series of flight tests supporting Besxar’s development efforts.
