Long running, New York based Music & Entertainment site – Read Junk, described the album as “guilty pleasure Synth Pop”, summing up the review with “Bottom Line: If this music was released in the 80s, it would be an international hit”. Influential blog, Electronic Rumors picked-up on Monumental’s “pure Pop sensibility” stating this is a “Modern SynthPop record that is head and shoulders above it’s contemporaries”. Bop 2 Pop complimented the album on its “insanely clever melodies and barebones synth hooks” and in another post, gave Monumental an honourable mention in their top album picks for 2011.

I have been manning the gallery which has been an interesting experience. Many people are shocked to find out I have created both the art and the music for the new Monumental album. It’s also been fascinating observing the variety of emotional responses to the art (and music) when people first walk into the gallery. Most people have been very complimentary about the exhibition, drawing in people from the streets both young and old, male and female. My favourite comment so far is: “it looks like aliens have landed”.

Some artworks echo the feeling of the music or the sentiment of the lyrics, whilst other responses provide an alternative perspective to the meaning of the song. Space Cowboy is an electro-ballad from the new album Monumental and is mixed by legendary producer Mark Saunders (The Cure, Erasure, Depeche Mode, A-ha, Tricky).

The video was shot in Mungo National Park in outback Australia. The lunar landscape was filmed at a place in the park referred to as The Great Wall of China and is famous for its “lunettes” which come to life at sunset. The shoot was strategically timed with the full moon which provides a second light source and adds to the surreal quality of the location. I created the animation and post-production sizzle with Adobe After Effects and cut it together in Premiere.
