'Ello! Haven't been around much in a while... moved, couldn't find work -- no more Sally hookup! sadface :( -- and without a job I haven't really felt the need to decorate my hands like I used to, heh. I just want to share something.

Whatever you're into... let it be known. A good example is how I use coupons, and people who know this give me their Sunday papers if they don't need them. Well... I love nail polish, as you can probably tell, and I somehow found myself here:

My husband's friend's mom's friend's daughter came into this stash for dirt cheap when a dollar store closed. I was invited over and I was allowed to take whatever. I. Wanted.

This liquid and powder kit is 100% free at Sally this month, the coupon is in the flier. Unfortunately, it is very hard to keep this in stock when it's free [it's nearly impossible, at least at my store :)] but maybe they can order you one if you miss out :)

I used a sponge I normally wouldn't use for gradients, it made big chunky spots that look kinda dirty or decayed. I love :)

I haven't had anything to post in a while because I've been wearing Halley's Comet nonstop for over a week now :) Now I think it's time for something different, but I still had to go for Halley's Comet for the dark. The light is Sinful Colors, Nail Junkie.

It's hard to tell in the picture, but it's a light to dark gradient similar to the last wintery one, except instead of sponging it, I dragged the dark into the light with a toothpick, Mayparis style :) [I'm sure it's other peoples style too, this is just the first nail video I ever saw and the one that actually got me into nail art :)]

I don't know why I'm feeling the icy blue lately [besides the fact that I'm craving cooler weather, this heat's killing me], but wandering though my RSS feeds, I see I'm not the only one :)

And it begins?

I did this back in May, shortly after Pacman's 30th birthday :) Original post: "You can blame my coworker for the inspiration for this :) In real life, the colors were absolutely perfect. It was soooo pretty, but the picture doesn't show the red at the tips, or the shine. It would have looked like fire if I took a toothpick to it :D Oh well.

I've finally recovered from cutting these babies WAY too short after a first-time-messing-with-silk-wraps disaster :)

So, this is the kind of thing I do. I almost always use a sponge in some way, I use them for both the gradients and for my tips [I'm kinda surprised I don't see more people use sponges for tips :D I have shakey hands, so I can't freehand very well, and I'm too impatient for tape].

I love doing gradients, it trips my customers out :D

With a little extra money last week, I was able to have a little Ebay shopping spree, and as of today I've recieved everything I ordered. This is mostly for my own reference, but it might be useful to others :) Hovering over the link should say what I got.

So... to start things off, I guess I'll post a little introduction. I'm Kris, 29, married, living in California. I work at a beauty supply store, which is what made me a lot more knowlegable about my nails and got me into wanting to learn how to make them all prettylike. I use Tumblr primarily to show my stuff off, but since so many nail blogs use blogspot, I decided to start crossposting here now.

What really got me interested in nail blogs was noticing how people would call my store asking for polishes that I knew we were getting, but didn't even have yet. How would they know about them? When we put out Rodeo Diva [I THINK it was Rodeo Diva. It could have been Retro Diva. I have a horrible memory], it was like people were coming in just to look at them. Then, in the days leading up to Halloween '09, we were suddenly getting ten calls a day asking about China Glaze Fortune Teller. When it came time to put out the display, we were already sold out. *I* didn't even get one. I had to go to another store :D And when The Poolside Collection came out, people would come in, make a beeline for the dispay, then come right to the registers, just like with Rodeo [Retro?] Diva. Yeah, for someone as obsessed with computers as I am, it did take a suprisingly long time to figure out these people got their info from the internet. It never dawned on me how into polish some people could be.

It will be fun to see where this goes. I currently have two photo boxes full of polishes, lots of glitters and rhinestones from ebay [that I haven't even used], and I just got the Bundle Monster set [haven't used that yet except to mess around to get familiar with it]. Most of my polishes are Orly, China Glaze, and Sinfulcolors.

What do I plan to do here? I'm thinking it will probably be mostly pictures of my nails when I do interesting things to them. No swatches, though, because I think there are plenty of people out there doing swatches far better than I could, so I'll just leave it to them. Same with reviews.

Sometimes, I find myself having answers to questions I see on other blogs, so maybe, as I get information, I'll post about that too. For starters, Vintage Vixen has officially started arriving at Sally Beauty Supply, and may actually already be on display at some stores. Also, the Orly collection Cosmic FX is currently listed at $8.99 in Sally's system [7.99 discount card, 6.99 pro and student]. Not a whole lot less than the announced $10, but if you sign up for that discount card, for $5 you save that extra dollar AND get a $5 coupon on your receipt for the next month. Get a card in July, come back and get a free polish in August.

I'll also pimp some giveaways every now and then [once a week?], 'cause... um, I'd love to win one :D I'll be doing a bulk giveaway post later today.
