Ever since I heard about these eyeshadows by Maybelline I was very eager to try them.

So when they finally came out in the U.K I decided to pick some up. Here are my thoughts on these eyeshadows!

How Much Are They? Where Can I Buy Them?

You can buy them at almost any drugstore.

I got them 3 for 2 at Boots for £4.99 each. They are generally around the £4.99 price range.

What Are They?

The Maybelline Colour Tattoo Eyeshadows claim to be a combination of Cream and Gel eyeshadows with exceptional lasting power. (24 hours)

Do They Have A Scent?

Yes. I am unfortunately useless at describing scents so I couldn't tell you exactly what they smell like but personally I did not find the scent to be strong or bothersome at all.

Sadly this shade is a complete let down. The pigmentation (colour pay off) of this is not only weaker than the other shades but the formula is also very difficult to work with. It is very difficult to blend and applies unevenly and patchy regardless of what type of application you use (I used various synthetic brushes, a sponge tip applicator and my fingers. I also used various methods of application - sweeping, dabbing, etc - nothing worked, it still came out uneven and patchy). I also attempted to use this underneath several eyeshadows but it produced the same poor result each time, even making my eye shadows look terrible!

Even a good eye primer underneath couldn't salvage this one. Very disappointing because the colour itself inside the pot looks so promising, but sadly, this didn't work out for me at all.

Because I got this product free I was not too concerned about returning it for a refund. However, had I paid for it, I would be contacting Maybelline with a complaint.

Unlike Endless Purple, Turquoise Forever is brimming with gorgeous pigment! This is an almost iridescent turquoise colour, very vibrant, pigmented and blends beautifully. Whatever method you use, whatever tool you use, you'll get the same gorgeous result. This works beautifully as an eyeshadow colour as well as an eyeliner. You can see me wearing this as an eyeliner on my Facebook Make Up Page.

The colour itself is slightly buildable. It is a very vibrant colour on its own so even the first application will stand out well.

The texture of the product is smooth and creamy. Definitely has more of a gel-like consistency than a cream.

Stayed on extremely well without an eye primer underneath it when I wore it as an eyeliner. I wore it for my birthday as an eyeliner and it stayed on for the entire night. The colour remained vibrant. Stayed on very well with an eye primer when worn as an eye shadow. I have not tried this on its own as an eye shadow without an eye primer as yet but I imagine it would still fare very well.

Review Of Permanent Taupe

Permanent Taupe is as pigmented as Turquoise Forever. Thankfully Endless Purple's poor performance is certainly not a reflection on the entire shade range of these eyeshadows. Permanent Taupe is as it states - a taupe colour. It is a buildable colour with a little depth to it without being too dark which means you can deepen the colour conveniently as much or as little as you'd like.

Like Turquoise Forever, this blends wonderfully regardless of the type of tool or method that you use. Thankfully this is again, a stark contrast from Endless Purple.

The formula almost mimicks that of Turquoise Forever upon application, only I feel it is slightly smoother again. I feel it glides more so like a cream than a gel. Regardless, the formula applies and performs wonderfully.

I have worn this as en eye shadow with an eye primer and found it lasted well over 9 hours.

What Is It?

Collection 2000 Supersize Mascara in #1 'Black'.

What Does It Do?

This mascara claims to give you volumised, dramatic, 'fat' lashes.

Packaging?

I really like the pink, slim tube that this comes in. I had no problems with functionality. The wand itself is natural bristle so it is ideal for those who like a softer mascara wand.

How Much Is It?

As with all make up, the price can vary depending on where you purchase it from. But in general, this is around only £2.99.

What Is The Lasting Power Like?

Fantastic. Wore this in all kinds of situations from being at home to shopping all day to working out at the gym. Stayed put all day with not so much as a flake or a smudge.

Scent?

I did not notice any scent on this mascara.

What Is The Formula Like?

A dryer style formula that's very buildable. You can create a natural look easily with this mascara or add more to create lengthier lashes.

How Does It Work?

I found this mascara gave my lashes fantastic length and a really gorgeous fluttery, feathery appearance. It also thickened them fairly well. I'd say this would be well suited to those who prefer a dryer mascara formula or those who find that their lashes are too sparse/thin for heavier, liquid style formulas.

Repurchase?

A resounding YES. This is such a great mascara and it has become one of my very favourites. It's also very affordable which is an added bonus. Yay!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation Review

What Is It?

Rimmel 'Wake Me Up' Liquid foundation with SPF 15.

How Much Is It?

The price of this will vary depending on where you purchase it. It's normally around the £8.99 mark but I got mine on offer for £6.99.

Does It Have A Scent?

As with all makeup, this has a slight scent to it. I am no good at describing scents but to me, this has a subtle fresh scent to it which is actually quite pleasant.

What Is The Packaging Like?

This comes in a glass bottle with a pump and you get 30ml or 1 fl oz. I had no problems with the functionality of the pump and I liked how sturdy the glass bottle was.

What Is The Coverage Like?

I have the shade 'Ivory' or '100'.

The coverage is around light to medium, depending on how much you build it up. Because this foundation is buildable in that respect it means it's pretty versatile. For those who prefer a light finish, one layer will provide that. For those who desire medium coverage (like myself) just add another layer. The beauty of this foundation is it isn't too thick or heavy, so even 'building' it does not make it look cakey or feel 'mask-like'. It feels fresh and light on the face which I personally really like.

The biggest claim on this foundation is that it offers a radiant 'glow' effect on the skin. It also states that it has an 'anti fatigue' and 'anti aging' effect with moisturising properties.

It certainly gave my complexion a boost, my skin looked instantly brighter after applying it. However, I didn't feel as though it made my skin 'glow', I felt the finish was matte as opposed to dewy (glowing). That was a little disappointing.

But, despite that, I did notice that my skin had a dewy finish to it hours after wearing this. (I know this was down to the foundation because my skin is not naturally oily). The other factor I noticed was how this oxidised on my skin. (Oxidisation means that once the foundation - or any other type of make up- has reacted with environmental factors and your skin, it changes colour) It definitely oxidises after a little while on the skin, leaving an ever so slightly darker finish. This is by no means a drastic colour change, it is barely noticeable but I feel it is worth mentioning for those who like to know about the oxidisation properties of a foundation.

I also expected my skin to feel softer since the foundation claims to have moisturising properties. In all honesty, I noticed barely any difference in this respect.

What Is The Lasting Power Like?

Pretty good. I tested this out in multiple ways from wearing it around the house to going to the gym with it on. Obviously it lasted longer when I wore it just around the house but it definitely stood up to my workouts fairly well too.

Application

You can apply this in the same way as you would any liquid foundation - using a sponge, foundation brush or your fingers. Personally I found that using my fingers was the best method for applying this foundation for me personally. This method gave me the best finish and coverage.

Repurchase?

Maybe. When a foundation claims to give a 'radiant' finish, I expect it to give me just that. Granted, this gave my skin a brighter appearance but it didn't give me the 'glowy' finish I was hoping for. (At least not right away, I would have preferred the dewiness to have been more prominent after initial application) This is a really nice foundation in all other respects and I like that it has some skin caring properties but I feel it could have done so much better on the radiance factor.

Sleek Brow Kit Review (Light)

After hearing the hype about this product practically EVERYWHERE, I had to try it for myself. It is said to be a good, cheap duplicate for Benefit's 'Brow Zings', but personally I have never tried that particular brow product so could not offer a comparison or opinion on it.

I can however offer you a review on this cheaper alternative.

What Is It?

In a compact, smart little 4g compact box you get a brow powder, a brow wax and three small tools which include a slanted brow brush, a dome shaped powder brush and a pair of mini tweezers. There is also a handy mirror inside to use on the go. The pakaging is impressively sturdy, I can't tell you how many times I drop my cosmetic products (I'm clumsy, okay?) and this has survived many a fall on a hard wooden floor with not so much as a dent to show for it. It has also been travelling with me many times and never come loose or broken.

How Do I Use It?

Simple! The brow wax is used to set the brows in place as well as fill in any sparse areas. You can then use the shadow to further fill/set your brows and the wax in place if you so wish.

What Shades Are Available?

This comes in two shades. 'Light' and 'Dark'.

How Much Is It?

£7.99 but the price can vary. I would definitely recommend taking a look in Superdrug for this as they may carry it cheaper.

What Is The Formula Like?

The wax is very smooth and blends easily. I use the slanted brush that comes with this kit to apply it. The quality of the brushes that come with this kit is very good. The tweezers are okay, I actually hated them at first but I used them a few times since and they seemed to work much better for me. I would not reach for them above my usual tweezers, however. They're more ideal for emergency situations (if you forget your regular tweezers or for travel).

The brow powder is nice, not overly 'powdery' and it stays put well. It too blends nicely over the brows.

If I am going to be extremely picky about this I would say the only issue I had with it was that the formulas only came in two shades. And even though this was 'Light', I would have liked the wax to have been just a little bit darker as it's a smidge too light for me. (The other shade, 'Dark', that this comes in was far too dark for me sadly.) It's not bad enough for me to not be able to use it however :)

What Is The Lasting Power Like?

I have dry skin so keep in mind that I can only speak for myself on how this fared on my own complexion. But it's brilliant. This stays put ALL day until I am ready to remove my make up. It has even survived my intense gym workouts which is great!

Verdict?

LoveLoveLovetyLoveLove :D This is now an absolute staple in my make up bag!

Rimmel Volume Flash Scandal Eyes Mascara Review

Hi everyone. I'm really sorry it has been so long since I updated this blog. But I'm back now with quite a number of reviews. Starting with a review of Rimmel's Volume Flash Scandal Eyes Mascara.

Packaging

One of the factors that drew me to this mascara was its crazy, chunky, fat orange tube. I love how bright it is and I love how fat the tube is! Lol! In all seriousness the packaging is great and functions well.

How Much Is It?

Depending on where you purchase this (I got mine on sale) will depend on the price. You can purchase it at Superdrug's website currently for only £4.99 go here. Generally it is £6.99 and can be found in most drugstores.

What Does It Do?

This mascara promises to volumise every lash to a 'scandalous' extent (see what I did thar?!) with no clumps.

Scent?

To be honest I never really noticed any overwhelming scent on this. However, if you smell it, it doesn't smell pleasant. But as I said, I never noticed this when using it so I did not feel it was strong enough to be bothersome.

Formula And Performance

Initially the formula on this mascara is very wet and this can make it difficult to work with. I have been using this mascara for over 2 months now to get to know it well and when I first used it I felt as though the formula was too wet for me to be able to use it. I was disappointed because I had such high hopes for it.

It left my lashes stuck together really badly (which I had to fix with a lash comb) but it gave them great volume and length at the same time. I decided to persist with it to see if the formula would dry up a little and make using this mascara easier. Sure enough I was right, the formula did dry up a little after a number of uses and eventually I found I was able to use this mascara without it causing my lashes to stick together so badly.

The wetness of the formula means that despite its claims, this mascara does clump. You will most likely find that you need a lash comb to comb through your lashes after using this the first few times. That, I feel, defeats the purpose of a mascara that claims 'no clumps' on its packaging and advertising.

HOWEVER, the brush is as fat as the packaging itself, allowing it to create some wonderful volume and length at the same time. My lashes are very long and dramatic after using this. I actually grew to really love this mascara once the formula became slightly dryer. If you like your lashes subtle, don't get this, it offers some serious drama to the eyes.

I like my eyeliners and mascaras the deepest black I can possibly find and the colour of the formula itself is very deep black, which I absolutely LOVED.

I have received compliments whilst wearing this because it makes my lashes THAT long and volumised. So to me, that is enough of a bonus to make me forgiving toward the wetness of the formula.

Repurchase?

I think I will, depending on what other types of volumising mascara I find along the way but this is definitely a good one and if you can get over the initial difficulties with the formula I feel you'll likely love the great volumising/lengthening properties of this.

October 2011 London MCM Expo

Hi everyone!

So I am super duper excited! I'm going to the October London MCM Expo tomorrow :D I'm going to be cosplaying Tifa Lockhart (FF7, white version) but at the very last minute I decided to do another cosplay. I have decided to do Jessie (Team Rocket) again! :D My cosplay this time around for both characters will be modified. In the case of Tifa, it's because I have lost so much weight. In the case of Jessie, it is also because I have lost weight but also because it is very last minute. I literally decided to cosplay her this evening. So I had to gather everything I had and some items I am having to make do with. But that's okay, I've got most of it.

I'm actually VERY freaking nervous about cosplaying this year...mostly because I have lost so much weight since last time...I've also got new hair. So people who haven't seen me since last time will definitely see a different looking me. I don't know why I am nervous for that, I just am.

Anyway! Keep an eye on my channel Bluesparks24 because I will be posting a pre expo video there tonight before I go to bed :)

New Hair!

Hi everyone

So I got my hair dyed recently and thought I would share the end result with you. You will also get to see it on video soon :)

I've always, always, ALWAYS wanted dark brown hair with blonde streaks and I FINALLY just went for it. I really like the end result, although I have some red tint to the blonde because I had red dye there previously. I expected that and I've bought some silver shampoo (it's a violet shampoo that neutralises brassiness) which I'll be using for a few weeks to see how it works. I want to review this shampoo in future so keep a look out for that.

Other than that, I'm very happy with it!

To give you an idea of just how little you need to use of these Pout Paints, I have shown you the amount I placed on my arm before I blended it out. You can see a little goes a very long way!

How Much Are They And Where Can I Purchase Them?

What Are Pout Paints?

Sleek Pout Paints are highly pigmented lip colours that you can wear alone or mixed together.

I created my own shades using these and I really love the results.

What Is The Formula Like?

Very thick and very pigmented. A word of warning - a little amount of these Pout Paints goes a VERY long way - so just use the smallest amount possible if you aren't mixing colours together.

Are They Scented?
Yes, they have a pretty strong sweet smell to all of them. Unfortunately I am useless at describing scents so all I can say is if you don't like very strong sweet smelling things, you won't like the smell of these.

How Should I Apply Them?

Some people have recommended using your fingers or a lip brush. Personally I would HIGHLY recommend using a lip brush. I found it gave a MUCH better finish than using my fingers. When I used my fingers the colour did not go on evenly despite trying multiple ways of applying (dabbing, etc). The choice, of course, is yours to make. I would also recommend building the colour rather than applying thick amounts all at once.

How Do They Feel On The Lips?

They feel okay. If you have dry lips I would highly recommend using lip balm about half an hour before applying these. They will show up every single line in your lips if your lips are dry/chapped when wearing them so I would avoid using these on chapped lips. Let your lip balm sink in before applying these to stop the Pout Paints from sliding around over your lip balm when you apply it.

What Is The Lasting Power Like? Do They Oxidize?

Not great in all honesty. They last about the same amount of time as your average lip gloss. Even when applied thinly as a lip stain I found the colour only lasted an hour at most and that was without eating or drinking.

Yes, they do oxidize. What I am referring to here is when makeup is in contact with the air/environment and it changes colour as a result. This happens with all makeup. That is why your eyeshadow might look a bit different a few hours after applying it for example. Expect your Pout Paints to look darker a little while after applying them. For me this wasn't a big deal.

Would You Purchase These Again?

I'd love to get some of the darker coloured Pout Paints eventually because I really like these!

When you are creating colours keep in mind what kind of shade you want in the end and use a colour chart as a reference if you need to. (Keep in mind that Sleek's range of Pout Paints do not include all colours such as green, yellow or red so you can't create *every* colour there is) Use minimal amounts at a time so that you can add more if necessary since it wouldn't be possible to extract formula once you have put the formula into your container and mixed it. Go slowly when mixing because the pigmentation of these is so high you will find you need very little of each colour. To store your new lip product use a travel sized makeup jar such as the one shown below. (I buy mine from Superdrug.)

The first shade I created was using Minx (Left), Peek a Bloo (Middle) and Cloud 9 (Far Right). I used four parts Minx, a tiny drop of Peek A Bloo and about three parts Cloud 9 to make my custom shade. You can see the shade I mixed in the container :)
