One more thing about starting a first website with SBI. There are many easy ways to build a first website these days like Blogger, WordPress, Tumblr (all great tools) but SBI does a top notch job of teaching about making money with a website while at the same time getting you started on the technology piece…an important distinction indeed!

Website Building for Beginners

When I first realized I wanted to build a web-based business, I knew right away that I did not have the seed money or patience to have other people do the work for me. I felt certain that I wanted to know how to do everything myself because those services were expensive and because I would have to wait my turn for the expert to get to my project. That is why I took on the learning curve to understand the processes of domain management, SEO, monetization, graphic design, and content creation. I still have a lot to learn but I’m so pleased that I did take the time. Otherwise I would be much more at the whim of others with my business. Also, now that I have a good understanding of a lot of the necessary processes, I feel better about delegating. Weird, I know but it’s very empowering to understand what you decide to delegate plus you can do a better job explaining what you expect that way too.

One of the first tools that I used to publish a website was SBI (which stands for “Site Build It!”). This was a few years back when I was an absolute beginner. Although I don’t have the SBI site any longer, as I reflect back on how I have learned what I have learned so far about web development, I must say SBI provided a great foundation. They provide an excellent and thorough curriculum for the person who does not have a website at all yet but who wants to build one that will become an additional stream of income. They emphasize a slow and steady, keyword research-based, step-by-step process.

New Business Name

Last month I began jumping through the hoops to rename my business entity, and today I’m pleased to launch this new website.

The process of changing the entity name was surprisingly painless and I’m very glad of that. The benefits of the name change have been noticed by me already but only in in a way that may seem pretty small at first…the name change has had a big effect on my mindset as an entrepreneur.

I’ve been building a business for many years, first as a sole proprietor then finally in late 2009 as an LLC. I’m continually surprised how much evolution of the business is taking place on an ongoing basis. This I have come to recognize as a good thing for many reasons even though the tweaks can be difficult for my personality and ego at times.

With this blog, I intend to document the further evolution of the business as well as share what I am learning about electronic (and traditional) publishing, online media, and being an entrepreneur.
