Big Ten Announces 2026-27 Women’s Basketball Home and Away Opponents

Michigan State women’s basketball and the Big Ten Conference announced the 2026-27 conference breakdown on Monday. For the sixth-straight season, the Big Ten will play an 18-game schedule, after playing a 20-game schedule during the 2020-21 campaign. The conference also played an 18-game league schedule in both 2018-19 and 2019-20.

The expectations are going to be high in East Lansing next season. Michigan State is coming off consecutive appearances in the second weekend and is pretty much unanimously in the top 10 of all the “way-too-early” rankings out there. One reason is that the Spartans have answers to some of their biggest problems from last season.

Mapping Julius Avent’s Path as Freshman at Michigan State

One of Michigan State’s incoming freshmen is getting overlooked a bit. Julius Avent is, technically, the lowest-rated prospect in MSU’s 2026 recruiting class. The Bergen Catholic (N.J.) product is still ranked 87th overall in the class on the 247Sports Composite, though. There would probably be more noise about what he’s bringing to East Lansing if the three guys ahead of him were ranked no worse than 50th overall.

Michigan State lands commitment from 2027 wide receiver Zach Forbish

Michigan State football has had quite the productive weekend. The Spartans landed four commitments over the weekend, and it was capped off by the commitment of 2027 wide receiver Zach Forbish. Forbish is an extremely productive receiver playing in Frisco, Texas. Although he has not been rated by the recruiting sites yet, he has had offers out from Wisconsin, Pitt, and several other programs around the country.

Michigan State lands 3-star tight end from Colorado

Ryan Pankey, a 2027 three-star tight end from Montrose High School in Colorado, announced his commitment to the Spartans via social media shortly after midnight on Monday. He was on campus for an official visit to East Lansing over the weekend. Pankey, 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, is listed as the No. 109 athlete in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Lawrence Kanneh, a 2027 three-star EDGE from Whitehall Yearling High School in suburban Columbus, Ohio, announced his commitment to the Spartans via social media on Saturday. Brendan Fitzgerald, the youngest son of Michigan State’s new head coach, announced his verbal commitment to his father’s team as a preferred walk-on Saturday. He’ll be a wide receiver in the class of 2027.

The Spartans have added another tight end to their 2026 roster — Ethan Melville of Holt, Mich. The local standout prospect has flipped his commitment from Calvin College and will now join Michigan State for the upcoming season. Melville played quarterback for the Rams the past two seasons and also saw action on the defensive side of the ball.
