Bob Marley receives new Grammy Award

Bob Marley receives new Grammy Award

Reggae music's greatest icon has posthumously captured another accolade after receiving a newLifetime Achievement Award Grammy recently.

Legendary Reggae singer, Bob Marley earned a replacement version of the same lifetime achievement award that he initially copped in 2001. According to reports, Recording Academypersonnel recently visited Jamaica and later noticed that the original version of Marley's lifetime Grammy had been damaged; thus, leading to the decision of creating a new rendition of said award.

Bob Marley's eldest son and fellow Reggae superstar, Ziggy Marley recently accepted the award alongside his sister, Karen Marley following aRecording Academy screening of the popular documentary, Marley at theLos Angeles Film School on Sunset Boluevard in Hollywood.

Vybz Kartel's 'Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto' - In Stores Soon

2012-07-05T03:41:00.001-07:00

GAZA 4 EVER

Vybz Kartel's 'Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto' - In Stores Soon

KINGSTON, Jamaica: On Friday, July 6, Adidja Palmer aka Vybz Kartelis set to release his best body of work catalogued in his book, Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto. Sam Cooke best describesKartel's journey in his hit song Change is Gonna Come, writing "There's been times that I thought I wouldn't last for long but now I think I'm able to carry on. It's been a long, long time coming but I know a change is gonna come. Oh, yes it will." And for Jamaica, it has!

Kartel has always said to expect the unexpected. In a statement released May 2011, Kartel threatened to use the pedestal that 'Babylon' has put him on to fight for his people - 'Ghetto People.'Through this book, Kartel is signaling that the fight for change starts now. Can Vybz Kartel change Jamaica for the better from behind bars? He has vowed to and based on Kartel’s ability to use his lyrics to gather a following, it will be interesting how this initiative by Kartel will affect Jamaica. On the cover of his book, Kartel states “I pray this book helps to change Jamaica forever.”

Vybz Kartel and his co-author, Michael Dawson, completed the manuscript early summer 2011 and Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto was first copyrighted in the United States on August 5th, 2011. The publishers have worked assiduously on getting it right. The release of Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto, Kartel's first book, heralds a new dawn in the history of Jamaica.

It is hoped that this book will lead to discussions on classism, racism and other “isms and schisms” existing in modern day Jamaica. The objective of Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto is to bring things that are often hidden by the powers that be to the forefront, using the biggest “Voice” that the Jamaican Ghetto has had in years - the voice of the notoriously controversial Vybz Kartel. Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto tells the "other half of the story that has never been told.” A story which Reggae pioneers have sang about - but Vybz Kartel has dared to put it into book form. While Kartel proudly acknowledges 50 years of Independence for Jamaica, Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto boldly asks - “50 years of what for poor people?”

Marley family sues over use of Bob Marley's image - BE WARNED

Marley family sues over use of Bob Marley's image - BE WARNED

Bob Marley's widow Rita and her children have brought action in the United States District Court, Central District of California against several parties that have been manufacturing, distributing and offering for sale certain potpourri/kush products which bear the Jamaican reggae legend's name, image, trademark, persona and likeness.

Fifty Six Hope Road Music Ltd, the company founded by Bob Marley's wife and children and the legal entity holding the trademark, publicity, persona and other intellectual property rights to iconic reggae artist Bob Marley, is bringing the lawsuit. According to Hope Road's general counsel Timothy Ervin of the firm Gallant & Ervin, LLC: "Hope Road has never granted a licence to any party to use any of the Bob Marley IP [intellectual property] on such products, which have been made to resemble synthetic marijuana.

"Hope Road intends to vigorously pursue any parties involved in the manufacture, distribution and sale of these infringing Bob Marley products."

Hope Road obtained an ex-parte seizure order and accompanied by the United States Marshal's office conducted a raid on the facilities of the named defendants earlier this month, seizing thousands of illegal Bob Marley products.

"We have never authorised any party to sell these types of products with our father's image and likeness on them and are very upset to see that people are buying these products and being harmed by them," said Cedella Marley, a director of Hope Road and Bob's daughter.

"As a result we felt compelled to take action against the parties that have been illegally manufacturing, distributing and selling these unauthorised goods.

Popcaan F@#ked Up But Slim Fi Shut Up Says Lisa Hype

Within the past week both Popcaan and Gaza Slim have taken to the media to speak out against each other with several allegations. Several members of the dancehall fraternity have offered their opinions but none as outspoken as international dancehall artistLisa Hyper. The artist who recently released the summer single "Life Change" on the Grill Fly riddim with Lady Saw, has taken the time to give us her thoughts and she doesn't mince words about Gaza Slim.

Basically what I'm saying is Popcaan fck up but slim fi shut up cuz she nuh do nutten fi addi family not even kno nun a dem suh d whola dem need fi leave off a dis gaza thing becuz d whole a dem fake a dan mi cosmetic jewellery but mi still love Popcaan, Rhino, Shawn, Tommylee as well but dem need fi jus du music cuz when addi fwd a music him a come do whether if a pg13 him a do it. But Lisa Hyper is har own boss say hello to d girl boss

Statement from Gaza Slim - GAZA UPDATE

2012-06-21T01:30:00.003-07:00

Statement from Gaza Slim - GAZA UPDATE

Everyone is releasing statements re Portmore Empire, some truthful than others so I think its time to release mine.

In a statement released by Popcaan (which I doubt was written by him considering how grammatically correct it was) is nothing but lies in an attempt at keeping the support of Gaza fans, and by Gaza, I mean Kartel because he is Gaza.

Firstly, before his arrest, Kartel did bookings for Popcaan which was handled by Calvin Haye and Andre Henry, not by the Worldboss himself, as we all know he staff to do these things.

As Kartel was arrested, Popi immediately diverted his bookings way from Moonie and Pimpin who were not arrested as yet, to other people, although the boss had invested time and money for which he has not been recompensed.

Secondly, when the boss was arrested he was held at a small jail where anyone could have visited. I know because I did.

Popi didn't visit because a certain producer told him to "stay far from Kartel, him nah see back road." Thirdly, in his statement, Popcaan said that he and Kartel spoke through letters.

I see the Boss in court regularly so I know that's a lie.

The only thing Teacha say when I ask if Popi link him is "Me nuh wah see him. Yuh nuh see how him a move. Me wish him the best."

I just want to say to Popcaan:

1. Stop the lies.

You and I know that Worldboss nuh want nothing from you cause dem man deh full a pride, an him pay all a we lawyer fee.

2. The reverse psychology that you're using to try look decent, a Kartel teach you that.

So don't try use it on his fans, because I was there when the white man asked you if you were going to visit Kartel and you said "Why me haffi go?" Lastly, stop send out statement bout 'bare badness backa dat." Maybe a people you a try impress but, sigh, me haffi laugh.

That's all I am going to say.

This is my only statement on the Portmore Empire.

- Vawnessa Saddler aka Gaza Slim.

Busy Signal has been extradited to USA

Busy Signal has been extradited to USA

Under heavy police guard, Busy Signal was escorted yesterday morning from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, to the Norman Manley International Airport, where he was handed over to United States Marshals.

The law enforcement agents, including members of the Department of Correctional Services, bypassed the usual public passenger channel and opted to use the general aviation section of the airport where the artiste's travel documents were processed.

The police party, which hid him from the press, then hurriedly whisked him away in a convoy, on to the tarmac from which he boarded a private aircraft and flew out of the island.

Busy, whose real name is Glendale Gordon, was extradited to Minnesota in the US to answer charges connected to narcotics offences, allegedly committed in 2002. According to the police, he was offered bail after being charged with the narcotics offences, but later fled to Jamaica, where he has been hiding under a false name for more than a decade.

Usain Bolt sprinted away with over $1.8 billion over the past 12 months, according to leading business news publication, Forbes Magazine, which recently released its list of the world's 100 richest sports personalities.

Bolt, who has been the poster boy for athletics, has gone on to dominate his events over the past four years, all this time raising the value of the sport and, by extension, his brand.

His US$20.3 million earnings leaves him in the number 63 position, and again makes him the only track and field athlete among the 100 highest-paid sports personalities. The list accounts earnings between June 2011 and June 2012. Bolt is believed to command in the region of US$300,000 in appearance fees per track meet.

The bulk of the athlete's earnings come from his numerous commercial deals, with Forbes accrediting US$20 million of his US$20.3 million income to endorsement arrangements with companies such as Puma, Hublot and Gatorade.

Bolt's contract with Puma is his largest to date and is believed to be in the region of US$10 million - one of the largest shoe-company contracts in the world.

Nissan contract

The Jamaican recently added Japanese automakers Nissan Motors to his ever-growing list of partners, after recently agreeing to feature in the company's global campaign to promote the 2012 Nissan GT-R.

The BBC One talent show's eight finalists, winner Leanne Mitchell and runners up Bo Bruce, Vince Kidd, Becky Hill, Max Milner, Jaz Ellington, Tyler James and Ruth Brown, were due to perform around the country but many dates have been axed due to poor sales.

Ticket website GetToTheFront confirmed: "The Voice UK dates in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham and Aberdeen have been cancelled, tickets to be refunded."

Though 'The Voice', which saw will.i.am, Jessie J, Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue coach the acts, had a strong start on TV with more than 11 million viewers, they had dropped to less than five million by the semi-final stage and insiders think the shows could be a disaster as even rival programme 'Britain's Got Talent' - which posted higher ratings - had to cancel last year's tour because of poor ticket sales.

A source recently said: '''Britain's Got Talent' had to admit defeat and pull the plug on the live tour in 2011 because the tickets hadn't sold - and their ratings were higher and more consistent than The Voice's.''

This year, 'Britain's Got Talent' did not have an accompanying tour.
