As we all know, our region recently dealt with two major winter weather events as Mother Nature hit Erie County hard in November with a major snow storm and then again last month with the terrible Christmas Blizzard of 2022. While much has been said about the impact of both, and the history books will certainly provide great detail about the devastating blizzard, I am proud of the collaboration that took place throughout the county. We coordinated a response that eventually grew to include thousands of workers and hundreds of pieces of equipment of all types that assisted hard-hit communities.

The Erie County Department of Senior Services is working hard on behalf of senior citizens throughout Erie County by providing advice and guidance to address higher-than-expected heating bills in the upcoming cold months.

Assistance is available to help defray those costs for qualified persons. In addition, there are also opportunities for homeowners on a fixed income to take advantage of an available duct cleaning and maintenance benefit. Ensuring that your home heating equipment is safe and working appropriately by having it inspected and professionally cleaned is something I encourage seniors to see if they qualify to take advantage of energy savings this winter.

For most of us, the nightmare is running across a perfectly normal-appearing person who turns out to be a psychotic.
It happens.
