Mozam Miracle Spearfishing Web Series

After a number of weeks on the editing desk the complete 3 part 'Mozam Miracle' series is complete. This was a trip that the ITZ team put together for Patrice Etlin from Brazil for his 50th Birthday. He wanted a spearfishing trip of a life time and also wanted to have a video of the diving and his time on the secluded island.

These are just 3 small snippets of the spearfishing action for all his mates on the web to see. What is interesting is that this was shot over only 4 half days spearfishing. But this gives you an idea of what is possible with ITZ camera and spearfishing crew.

Spearfishing: Mozam Miracle Episode1

This episode sets the stage as we travel to Northern Mozambique and Vamizi Island. Here we spend all our days filming our guests hunting the majestic reefs of a near by Island. The high light being the famous Metundo Canyon a world class reef system that steeply rises out of 100meters of water.

In this next epic spearfishing episode of Mozam Miracle Richard 'Snoek' Leonard lands his personal best Dog Tooth Tuna, and also takes time out to share some of his secrets on filming spearfishing with a GoPro camera.

Spearfishing a giant Dog Tooth Tuna is every spearfisherman's dream. Patrice only dreamed of spearfishing a fish like this. Watch as Patrice's wildest dream comes true on his 50th birthday. He shoots and lands a massive 72kg Dogtooth Tuna, and then a massive celebration breaks out.

Incredible Film Shoot on St Lazarus Banks

The 'Trophy' at the end of an incredible film trip.

The In The Zone Productions team has just got back from an amazing spearfishing trip to the famous St Lazarus Banks with Mohammed Jassim Al Kuwari. This intensive film shoot was part of Mohammed's part in the epic film called 'Legends of Blue Water Hunting' which features greats like Terry Mass and Rob Allen.

What was unique about this shoot is that it was not just a spearfishing trip that was filmed, the production was the priority. This meant that unless something was going to hinder the spearfishing, the filming and production took preference. ITZ also assembled possibly the best spearfishing videography team to work on the project.
Richard Leonard directed the shoot and also applied his skill as a camera man above and below the water.
Chris Coates organised all the spearfishing and dive gear as well as using his diving ability to film Mohammed in action.

Matt Swart, ITZ's wizard on the editing desk brought some unique filming skills and insights above the water.

Robin 'Gumby' Moulang not only is an excellent water cameraman he brought some epic quadcopter flying skills to get some unique and very interesting camera angles.

Lazarus was an amazing place to shoot, the water is very clean with amazing fish life. The goal was a big Dog Tooth Tuna on film and Lazarus did not disappoint. The team also worked hard to ensure that the footage was above the normal standard seen in spearfishing videos.

Filming spearfishing at this standard also required a huge sacrifice from Mohammed, the production generally comes first and for this you need loads of patience. Especially when having to redo things over and over until the team gets the shot right. You often hear some one shouting, "wait for he cameraman!"

Trips like this into places like Mozambique need a serious amount of organising and planning. From flights and boat transfers, to filming permits, fishing licenses and a host of admin night mares. This is all before Richard hands you a 28page shoot list and production plan, nothing like a little bit of light reading before the trip :-)

All in all the Lazarus trip with Mohammed was a huge success, with the team getting what has to be some of the best spearfishing footage ever filmed. Now its up to Matt on the editing table and Rich directing to do their magic.

Onefish Going East - Translated

With the huge success and the selling out of the first run of english DVDs of the new film Onefish - Going East In The Zone decided to translate the DVD into Portuguese, Spanish, French and Greek..

The 'Multi-Language' DVD is now available in Europe and from SpearoDVD.Com
and it has replaced the old version that was just in English.

Going East Spearfishing Epic Almost Finished!

Mohammed and Chris on set in Mozambique

The ITZ team have basically finished there next spearfishing film. This next film entitled "Going East" is the second in the Onefish series and again was a joint venture with the guys at Parafilm Productions. The first 'Onefish' film was a best seller last year and is continuing to sell well so the guys have pulled out the stops to make this one even better.

The last final touches are being made this week and the final cut will be rendered over the weekend. This has been a 4 year project, and we are all waiting in huge anticipation to see the final product. The films director Richard Leonard is real excited about this project saying, "this film uses some new editing techniques we have developed, it's going to revolutionise the viewing experience"

The other thing that makes this film unique is that it has been edited and produced so that it can be supplied in HD on BluRay. There will be limited edition BluRay discs available form mid April making this the first spearfishing production sold in HD.

The dvd will be available at the Premier in Durban on the Friday 23rd March and will be in stores the following week. The actual press release and trailer will only be out next week, so we are patiently waiting for all the buzz that this will create.

Mohammed on location in Mozambique

Back at the ITZ Media head quarters all the pieces have come together for another great spearfishing adventure film. It has been a project long in the making and we have been working hard with Mohammed Jassim Al-Kuwari from Qatar on getting the footage we needed.

This next film entitled "Onefish Going East" is going to be a fantastic film with big fish and superb videography.

We have just finish up on a spearfishing trip to Madagascar, I took a couple cameras up, but the main focus was just to get photo's for my spearfishing magazine. The footage I did get was amazing and we have cut it down and made a bonus feature to go in the new dvd Onefish.

We actually did not shoot this Iggie and let him swim by.

There were so many fish we just let swim past as we were being very selective as there were some world class fish around. The short film is so action packed it will get your heart pumping.

I cant wait to see it on the big screen

New Spearfishing DvD "One Fish" - First Draft

Hey Guys,

It is with much excitement that I finally get to write something on this blog!! I have been waiting to report on the progress of our new spearfishing film.
This weekend we sat down to view and crit the first rough draft, it was over 2 hours long!! Dont worry it will only be about 90min when we are finished.

This film is going to be the amazing ... and that not because I am involved in it. Its because we have 10 guys from around the world who have contributed their best spearfishing footage for the film.

Guys like Rob Torelli and his Tuna Worl Record; Cameron Kirkconnell and his World Spearfishing Record, and more. From giant Tuna and Sailfish to huge Atlantic Cod.

All in all we have about 45 species and about 120 kill shots in the film! Its basically back to back spearfishing action all the way!

Mozambique TV Pilot & Spearfishing DVD Shoot.

The In The Zone team has just returned a week ago from a month shoot in Mozambique, where we completed filming the stock for two major projects for 2010.
The first project is the broadcast pilot for the TV series "Catch & Cook" an adventure based hunting and cooking show. We are excited to get this highly entertaining project off the ground and get the ball rolling with the broadcasters.

The TV series "Catch & Cook" is more than a cooking show, its more of a rip roaring adventure though exotic locations culminating in a meal with the folk we meet along the way.
We have also raised the bar on this production, filming everything in full High Definition. This will enable us to open doors with the broadcasters from all the major networks and create a product like nothing else coming out of South Africa at this time.
We will be get the project onto the editing desk first thing in the new year, and will keep this blog updated with its progress.

The second project that we shot up in Mozambique was the sequel to the top selling "Good Times" spearfishing DVD, and because we had a full production team up for the TV pilot we were able to upgrade the quality of the footage 10 fold.

This next DVD still to be named will be an epic spearfishing show, with some amazing variation in species and locations. To top it all off we were able to shot on film and capture a massive Black Marlin over 500lb! This is a mammoth achievement and will set this next spearfishing DVD up to be a world class production. The full sequence of the marlin being shot on film is also a first in spearfishing and will be a huge draw card for the production.

The guys got together down on the Eastern Cape and did a Premier for the DVD 'Good Times' the response actually quiet amazing!! This what Gletwyn Rubidge had to say

The DVD was great - different from the normal - I like the dad coaching son stuff I relate to it in my own son. The energetic and motivated tone is uplifting to the viewer and it is a movie you can let the wives watch too and they will also be captivated. ..........

D Day!! For Good Times Spearfishing DVD

Well today is the day!! The final DVD should arrive at the post office this arvo. Its been a long time coming .... a long long time!!
From here we have some negotiations with some of our resellers as to how many units we make on the first run. Then its off to get the master done.

I showed the DVD (the last revision I had) to Gyula Plaganyi is was good to see his response to the film. He sent me this comment in a mail:
"More than just a fish movie with music. The best "feel good" spearo movie to come out of Africa.....to dive or not to dive ! This video answers that question."

This pretty much sums it up ... very stoked.

Off to going make some final changes to the DVD cover

The DVD design for the Spearfishing DVD Good Times

The time has come!! we have finally completed everything and the final compilation is being done this week. That means that we will have the final DVD done by this weekend!! The project will then go to get made into a glass master before we can start pressing copies of the DVD. This whole process will probably be a couple weeks!

We did show a couple guys the rough cut version this is what Chris West from Wahoo Dive Club had to say:

“ Best edited and presented action packed
spearing dvd yet”

We are super stoked with the response, it was exactly what we were after.

So excited to get the DVD out now.......

Spearfishing DVD Premier

Well the Spearfishing dvd has finally made to the Premier!!

Last nite we showed the completed DVD Good Times for the first time, it still has a few minor little tweaks but basically it is exactly were we want it.

We showed the dvd to a small group of guys to get some feedback and gauge their response to the film. We invited Rob Allen and his wife, Steve Ellis from Fibretech & Xfins, Stuart Donkin from Marlin Marine - he makes our water housings. Chris west from Wahoo Spearfishing Club and Clint Friend and his wife - he's the guy who wrote the original music for the film.

The film just sucks you in and before we knew it the hour was over and there was a round of applause and loads of complements flying. It was the response we were looking for, we were very nervous not knowing how people would respond. But we are very confident at the moment and super excited to do the final touches and get the whole package with extras burnt to glass master.

Then to top it all off we had dinner with Rob and his wife, and it looks like the Dive Factory will take 1000units on the first order!! That right there makes the 18months of grind worth it!

Spearfishing DVD - the end is near!!

Hey Guys,

Today we reached a major milestone in the Spearfishing Epic "Good Times".

All the color correcting and sound was completed and almost all the music was scored and recoreded. Tomorrow it all gets sent off to the Matt our resedent editing guru, to put all back together and burn to disc for the first viewing of the completed main feature on Saturday evening.

This has been an mostorous project, the main feature is an hour long and has taken over 18months to complete. The music alone has 13 origonal pieces of music all written specifically for the film. .... I dont think there is a single spearfishing film out there that has this amount of attention to detail.

But just see some of the complete segments, complete with music left me with goose bums ..... I cant wait to have the whole project complete.

Well the DVD is finally on the final home streach! The Final edits are almost complete and the first segments went to our muzo for music and extra sound effects.

This means that we are about a month from completing the main feature, it will take a week or so to put all the etras and the feature together for the final render and then we are done!!!!
