Aamir puts hotel into trouble

Bollywood star Aamir Khan’s incognito stay in a Varanasi hotel has put its owner in trouble, with the police charging the hotel with violating the identity verification rules for guests.

Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal said Wednesday that Aamir Khan checked into Hotel Saraswati in Mughal Serai area of Varanasi Dec 10 evening along with nine other people. They checked out Dec 13.

The popular star had gone to the Hindu holy city looking for his roots — his mother hailed from Varanasi. Aamir did manage to trace his family connections and visited his distant kin living there. In an obvious bid to save himself from being mobbed, he chose to let the rooms be booked in the name of someone else. However his Mumbai address and phone number in the hotel records were correct.

But the usually lax Uttar Pradesh Police suddenly turn into a stickler for rules. Brij Lal said: "We do not deny that a popular actor does require some secrecy but entering a hotel under a false name is not done."

Seven rooms had been booked in the name of "Akram Shah and party". Brij Lal said: "The hotel has not cared to follow government directives on verification of the identity of every hotel guest. Therefore, the owner is liable to give an explanation or else he would lose his licence."

Shilpa sets a wedding date

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty says that her wedding date has been finalised, but she will announce it only when her sister Shamita is by her side.

"I know everyone’s eager to know about the wedding date. All I can say is yes it’s been finalised and I will make an official announcement as soon as I know when Shamita’s coming out," Shilpa, who got engaged to London-based Raj Kundra Saturday after a courtship of about two years, posted on her blog.

Shamita is currently participating in the Colors’ reality show "Bigg Boss 3". She is locked in the house with 10 more inmates and has no connection with the world outside. Shilpa says she missed her sister. "It’s been a time of both joy and sorrow for me. The joy is obvious because Raj and I feel happy to take our relationship to the next level, but as most of you know my sister Shamita is still in the ’Bigg Boss’ house and could not attend. She doesn’t even know.

"The date was decided a week ago and we all came to the consensus that we should go ahead because another good mahurat (auspicious time) was a long way off. And considering Raj’s parents and relatives were down from London for a week, so it seemed convenient," she wrote.

"I wanted to have Shamita there during this special moment, but I had to be considerate towards Raj’s family too. So for all those who wanted to know why I went ahead without Shamita, it was a difficult decision but this is the answer." Shilpa admits that when her sister comes out of "Bigg Boss" house, the news of the engagement will shock her. "I know Shamita will be shocked… she’ll kill me. Missed her more than words can describe but I’m sure she’ll understand! Can’t wait to show her my ring," she wrote.

Mumbai airport shut for 6 hours every Tuesday

MUMBAI: If you are catching a flight from Mumbai between 11am and 12noon on a Tuesday, be sure to arrive at least 75 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

The airport will witness complete closure for six hours as the intersection between two cross-runways will be shut for the next 22 Tuesdays from 12 noon to 6pm for repair and reconstruction work. This would not only mean that flight operations would be suspended during that time, but departing and arriving flights prior to the closure will have to stick strictly to schedule in order to avoid major delays or diversions to other airports.

At least 12 flights have been cancelled and four rescheduled at Mumbai international airport due to six-hour runway closure starting today.

Jet Airways & JetLite have decided to reschedule flights to and from Mumbai on Tuesdays.

Kingfisher that operates 31 domestic flights out of and into Mumbai has either changed flight timings or flight numbers.

In order to avoid last-minute hassles, passengers can arrive a little more than an hour earlier. The Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) will be making additional announcements to facilitate quick check-in and to update flyers on the status of their flights.

While on other occasions, it is possible to roam around in the airport, on Tuesdays it is advised that passengers collect their boarding cards and move towards boarding gates as soon as their flight is announced. ‘‘The flight will not wait as in case of a delay, there would not be any way out for the next six hours. Hence, passengers will have to be careful and make sure that they board on time,’’ said an MIAL official.
