Q: Are spider veins permanent? Will spider veins go away on their own?

A: A lot of blemishes humans get on their skin are temporary. For example, a zit will pop up one week but be gone the next. Some others may not come and go so quickly, but many times if we wait long enough, the problem will heal and recover on its own.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately, spider veins don’t work this way. Once the appear, they are almost certainly there to stay (but there are exceptions we will discuss below). The good news is that there are effective ways to remove them. Let’s talk a little bit more about why exactly they’re permanent and what you can do to treat them.

Why are spider veins permanent?
First, it’s important to understand what spider veins are exactly. You see our blood pathways are supposed to flow in one direction. But sometimes the veins and capillaries don’t work the way they should. When the capillaries right below the surface of the skin on our legs, thighs, etc. don’t work right, the blood can get backed up. This creates that dark purple phenomenon we call spider veins. Once these spider veins form, unfortunately these unsightly capillaries rarely get better on their own. In fact, they often will worsen over time.

Are there any exceptions?
Will spider veins go away on their own ever? Well, there are a couple possible scenarios where they might be temporary. If you were recently pregnant and the spider veins developed during that time (or shortly after) then they may very well go away on their own. The second exception would be medications that alter your hormones, like those to control birth. When those are used, they may perpetuate the formation of spider veins, which may or may not be permanent.

Permanent or temporary – how can you get rid of them?
If you’re currently pregnant, definitely wait for treatment until afterwards. For everyone else, there are a three highly effective methods to treat them. Spider vein therapy using injections can be performed by a doctor to destroy them. Laser spider vein removal is another route to go if you don’t like needles and want something less invasive. If you would like to start off with an inexpensive home treatment, then spider vein cream may be all that’s needed for milder cases.

A: There are three popular methods of treating spider veins. Their cost can range from $10 to over a $1,000. We’ll discuss each of them below so you can compare and contrast to determine which would be best for your budget.

Sclerotherapy

What is it?
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure where a physician injects a corrosive liquid into the spider veins to destroy them. This will kill the veins and they will dissolve away over the following weeks. This is a treatment that has been used for over a century. Although it’s still considered to be safe, many have concerns that it can’t be very safe to be injecting this into your bloodstream.

How much does spider vein removal cost using sclerotherapy?
Treatment can run from $100 to $400. It should only take one treatment per area treated. However as with any treatment, it’s always possible to develop different spider veins around the area or elsewhere on the body later on.

Laser For Spider Veins

What is it?
Just as the name implies, this involves using a special laser to destroy the spider veins. One of the benefits of this method is that no injections, cutting, etc. is necessary. However the drawback is that for some it can still feel painful when the laser pulse hits the skin (some say it feels like a rubber band snapping each time).

How much does spider vein removal cost using lasers?
As you can imagine, anything with lasers is going to cost you a pretty penny. Typically it can run anywhere from $300 to $450 per session. That’s high enough as it is, but the worst part is that usually a few treatments are necessary. It’s still an effective method, but it’s just not cheap.

Spider Vein Cream

What is it?
Spider vein creams have been around for quite some time now. They are just some scam product – they actually use an ingredient (vitamin K) which is proven to help with various circulatory issues. In fact, in addition to the beauty industry, it is also used in the medical industry. A good spider vein cream will contain 5% vitamin K, which helps to support healthy circulation again in your spider veins. It probably won’t solve the worst cases, but for smaller ones, it’s a good place to start.

How much does spider vein removal cost using cream?
Not only is this by far the easiest treatment, but it’s also the most cost effective. You can buy a jar of spider vein cream for anywhere from $10 to $50. Typically it is used for several weeks until the desired results are achieved.

A: The medical term for it is called sclerotherapy. It has been in use in one form or another for over a 150 years now to treat various vein problems. It is a procedure administered by the doctor whom injects a solution into the problem vein which causes it to shrink off and fade away over the following weeks.

Does it work?
Spider vein therapy is one of the oldest and most widely used treatments for this condition. It is usually very effective for most many people. What I like about it is the idea that the problem veins are being targeted directly and injected with the solution.

Advantages
In addition to being a time-test successful method, it is also favored because it is usually a relatively quick procedure (10 to 45 minutes) and because it doesn’t use any fancy technologies, it’s often very affordable.

Disadvantages
Like everything in life, when there are pros there are also cons. As far as effectiveness and cost, most people can’t complain. But one concern I had while researching spider vein therapy was that there have allegedly been recent reports which have shown that some of the solution which is injected quickly flows to other vital organs like the brain, heart, and lungs.

Further studies need to be done to determine whether or not this poses any danger (it may very well not) but to me common sense says it may be dangerous. After all, it is a corrosive substance that the doctor is putting into our bodies and I am scared of that going into my brain. I was a big fan of this method before, but after reading that, I think I will stick with my laser spider vein removal and spider vein cream.

A: I’m glad to hear you are trying to proactively prevent them from getting worse, but the honest truth is that with the exception of treatment, there may not be a whole lot you can do for them. The reason I say this is because if you look at what causes spider veins, you will see that most of the culprits are things we have no control over – i.e. genetics and being female.

That being said, I’ll talk about a few health and lifestyle conditions that may possibly. However please keep in mind I am not a physician so please don’t misconstrue these tips as medical advice:

Diet: Out of the factors we can control, it is said that weight plays a major part in the formation of spider veins. Why? Because when we weigh more than we should, our body has to carry around extra tissue. That’s extra mass that our circulatory system has to work extra hard to “feed” with nutrients and oxygen.

Think of it as the plumbing in your house. Under normal circumstances it usually works fine. But once you start tossing paper towels in the toilet or something else, it puts more stress on the pipes – which they are no designed to handle. Or, imagine if you increased the water pressure going into your house by double? The pipes are only designed to withstand a certain force and doing that may cause things like leaks and breaks.

In a similar fashion, think of the veins in your body. When they are put under unnecessary pressure due to excess weight, they may begin to break and the blood may not flow the right way. This can cause many serious (even fatal) health conditions, but when it comes to those capillaries below the surface of our skin, they can leak and form what we call spider veins.

Exercise: Under the direction of your doctor, healthy exercise probably isn’t a bad idea either. Not only are you working your muscles, but you are also conditioning your circulatory system. Routine and regular exercise may help your blood flow better. Since we already discussed how important this is for varicose veins, you can easily guess why staying in shape is also one factor that may be a good decision to make.

Treatment: At the end of the day, no matter how healthy of a lifestyle you live, the chances of spider veins going away on their own aren’t very good. They may improve on their own but usually some sort of treatment plan is needed to get rid of them. For mild cases spider vein cream is a place to start. For more severe cases like varicose veins, then professional treatment by a physician is a must.

But what if you dreaded when the warmer weather came around? Why, You ask? What if you had noticeable spider veins on your legs and were self-conscious about these?

Well thanks to modern medical advancements, you no longer have to live with this embarrassing condition. Today’s spider vein therapy is not only inexpensive, but it also does the job quite well.

//

The truth is, leg spider veins are a very common skin ailment that a lot of people have learned to conceal by wearing long pants and different types of clothing that hides the legs. But as we know sometimes wearing jeans throughout the year isn’t a very practical plan, especially when it is upwards in the nineties.

Why They Occur
Women are amongst the most likely candidates affected by the onset of spider veins on the legs. The reason for this onset? There are many contributors to the formation of these green and sometimes purplish veins, but some of the main reasons are ones you can’t control – your genes. Being overweight is one of the most common causes. Another common factor is poor blood circulation and not enough physical activity, therefore, many women who have desk jobs where they sit for longer periods of time are susceptible to these discolored branch like veins.

What You Can Do
So what can a person do to help treat these other then wearing pants? Well, one way is to incorporate the use of spider vein cream. There are many varieties made readily available for purchase in the online industry. Some have active ingredients that are designed to help fade the darkness and depth of these veins so they are less noticeable. This gives you better self confidence and you won’t have to worry about not being able to wear those shorts or skirts you have always wanted to wear.

Another way to diminish the appearance of spider veins on legs is to have various types of beautifying procedures performed from a licensed professional. Some of these procedures are laser surgery or sclerotherapy.

How Well They Work
Laser surgery for this common skin ailment is performed for mild to moderate veins and can have an improvement on the appearance of these veins by about about 30-40%. The way this procedure is performed is by the use of a concentrated beam of light which is aimed directly at the vein(s). This has been said to be a favorite procedure among people who are not fans of needles, which is the other procedure that can be performed on these veins.

Sclerotherapy is an solution based injection that is said to be a beneficial treatment for spider veins that are more severe and darker in color. This solution helps close up the area so the they are usually no longer visible. This procedure can take up to a few weeks to see results, but the results seen can be stellar.

Which One To Choose
By using one of these techniques in this article you don’t have to worry when the weather begins to heat up. Instead of being embarrassed to go for swim and wear shorts, you’ll have freedom again to do what you want and show those legs to the world. Investing a little in their removal can allow you to be more confident.

However we all have different scenarios, so you should discuss this with a physician to determine which would be best for you. If they’re really bad an in-office procedure will probably be needed. Often if it’s a mild problem, then over-the-counter spider vein cream can usually help.

A: It’s definitely not a scam. The truth of the matter is for small to moderate sized spider veins there are a number of options to consider. One is the use of spider vein cream for mild cases, and the other is to choose to have procedures performed by medical professionals. The procedures are done to help fade the look and appearance of these skin flaws. Laser spider vein removal is known to be a very effective technique.

Before we begin to discuss what exactly this procedure entails and how it works, let’s first discuss an important factor, which is who are the ideal candidates for this procedure. The ideal candidate for this procedure are people who want to improve the appearance of their spider veins. They are non-smokers who are healthy both physically and mentally. But ultimately you will need to consult a doctor to find out, because I am not one! Now with that cleared up we can talk about what this procedure consists of.

The Basics
This technique involves the use of a laser tool that utilizes a bright beam of light that is directed at the site of the vein. This treatment helps minimize the size of the vein and fades the look and overall appearance of these veins. Most sessions only last around 15 to 20 minutes. Some people may only need one treatment, while others who have more moderate spider veins might have to go up to three times to see the desired results.

Does It Hurt?
Another interesting fact about spider vein laser treatment is that many people report that although these treatments can be performed without anesthetic of any kind. Some people describe the sensation as having a rubber band snapped against your skin.

Now I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t seem to be a very pleasant experience at all, but I suppose waxing doesn’t either and it also has a number of benefits. I think what makes it bearable is that it lasts for about 20 minutes at the most. I guess this procedure follows the same concept as “no pain, no gain,” right? And in beauty treatments, that usually is the key!

What To Expect After
After the treatment is rendered people report that skin may appear darker, but this tends to go away within a few weeks. After about 2-6 weeks people have reported a significant decrease in the overall appearance of their spider veins.

Most of the extraordinary success is found with the spider veins on the face, with a stellar improvement of 70%-80%. People who have their legs treated with laser spider vein removal only saw an improvement of about 30-40%, but better nonetheless.

Once the first treatment has been completed, a total of three treatments should be enacted every three months. This is done so that the person is able to achieve the results they desire. Generally, after having a series of a few treatments, most people will get the desired results.

Talking To Your Doctor
One way to decide if laser spider vein removal is right for you is to speak with a medical professional who can give provide you information in regards to this procedure. This way you can make a well informed decision as to the many benefits as well as potential side effects for this treatment.

Why do Spider Veins Exist?
For those who are not aware of how spider veins make their appearance on the body, there are a few important factors that one needs to know.

First off, the environment plays a key role whether you are susceptible to unsightly spider veins. If you are always outside in the wind and sun, these factors may contribute to the development of spider veins. This is of course if you fail to take action to protect your skin from these environmental factors.

When combined these nutrients and their composition can make a unique and paramount treatment that can withstand the test of time.

Vitamin C helps with exfoliating the skin. It also brings newer skin to the surface. Vitamin K is said to help minimize broken capillaries and prevent blood from clotting in the area – this factor is what gives the spider veins the purplish color they are known for. Vitamin E helps to moisturize the skin. It also gives the skin the hydration it needs to look healthy and radiant. Emu Oil can also be a great ingredient that includes many benefits and is able to deeply penetrate the skin, it does not clog pores and is ideal for all skin types because of it’s known to be non-irritating.

Conclusion
There are cosmetic procedures such as sclerotherapy for severe cases, laser treatments offered by dermatologists, as well as spider vein cream for at-home use.
Sclotherapy
This is a common spider vein treatment and is also used to treat varicose veins. This treatment consists of a solution that is injected into the vein that causes the walls of the vein to become swollen, stick together and close up. This procedure stops the blood flow within the vein and soon after this vein turns into scar tissue. In only a few weeks people have seen the veins dissipate. One treatments usually suffices, but sometimes more then one treatment is needed.

Success Rate
Sclotherapy is a very effective treatment when it comes to spider vein treatment, but the trick is to have this procedure performed right away as soon as the spider vein becomes visually apparent. Many people have reported stellar results ranging from 50%-90% improvement in the appearance of the vein. The special solution that is injected into the vein is the key ingredient and increases the success rate of spider veins. One of the great things about this type of procedure is that it can be done in the physicians office and does not require any type of anesthetic.

Side Effects
As with any type of treatment or surgery there are some possible side effects associated with this procedure. Some of these include swollen red skin where the injections were administered, tiny skin sores at the injection site, bruises where the injection was given, temporary spots around the area of the vein that was treated. Other possible side effects include patches of thin blood vessels in the area of the skin where the injection was made; brown discoloration, usually vertical in nature, that are found around the treated vein. These usually dissipate within a few days.

Laser Spider Vein Removal
The other procedure that will be discussed in this article are lasers. This treatment is administered and can effectively treat spider veins on the legs. The way that this procedure works is that it uses very bright bursts of light that help the vein disappear. This type of treatment is very precise and has great accuracy. Laser surgery is much more appealing to people who are not fans of needles or injections, but this doesn’t ease the pain associated with the laser. The laser treatment can actually be quite painful because of the use of direct heat on the skin. This treatment usually lasts for about 15 to 20 minutes and most often between two to five treatments are needed for the removal of these types of veins.

Side Effects
Some of the side effect of laser treatments are redness and swelling that will disappears after a few days after treatments has been administered. Skin discoloration that will vanish after about a few months.

Making Your Decision
As a helpful hint of advice, I am not a licensed medical professional nor do I claim to be, therefore seeking the advice of one is highly advised. With that said, these two types of treatments are very beneficial in the treatment of spider veins. It is up to you to decide which treatment seems to be more appealing to your needs.

This is a question that many people with these purplish discolorations find themselves asking others in hopes of finding a definite answer.

There are many causes of spider veins. Genetics and weight can be a major factor, but there are other known culprits, like frequent exposure to variations in temperature and excess sun exposure. Other factors include use of birth control, an imbalance of hormones in women, and normal aging. The good news is spider vein removal is possible.

Women Are At Higher Risk
Women who are overweight or obese are more likely then thinner women to experience the onset of spider veins, however don’t be alarmed… it’s still possible to get rid of them. Women who are pregnant can also be more susceptible to the development of spider veins than women who have not undergone pregnancy in their lifetime.

Spider Veins on Face
Although these skin flaws are usually found on particular body parts like the legs and thighs of women, they can also make their appearance on the face and nose of men as well. With everyone being at risk for these skin imperfections, there are a number of creams to help ease their appearance. Such creams that tend to me more popular and have better results.

Men who do a great deal of work outdoors where they are exposed to the many harsh factors such as the sun and wind are more likely to develop spider veins because of this. The one factor that all of these people have is a lack of blood circulation within the metabolic system. In essence, it takes the the blood from the heart quite a bit of time before it makes itself to the legs.

Treating Them
So now that we know what causes spider veins, we can now find out which creams work best. The best creams should help increase circulation, help prevent future damage or onset of new problem veins. It should help provide moisture to this area of the skin where they are apparent, as well as protect the skin from the harmful elements of the sun and wind. Therefore, a treatment that has sun protection would be ideal. But most important of all, it should contain ingredients to help diminish the dark color.

Ingredients
Ingredients such as Vitamin E, which helps with increasing blood circulation and. Vitamin K can help keep the blood from clotting – this is considered the primary component of most creams and is known to be very effective at helping to naturally diminish the veins.

Other ingredients that may be beneficial include aloe, which has superior natural botanical moisturizers. Alpha hydroxy is a great product that helps with elemental factors such as those found in the wind and sun damage associated with these imperfections on the skin. The last essential ingredient would be a powerful sunscreen agent which will also be needed if the product contains alpha hydroxy.

What’s The Next Step?
Now that you know what causes spider veins, you can treat them. It’s important to realize that if you have a severe case, creams probably won’t do much good. If that is the case, there are other spider vein removal options offered by varicose vein doctors which are extremely effective.
