Well that’s what happened today. Last year, we custom designed a letterpress wedding invite for Maggie and Kevin.

Their wedding photographer submitted photos, which included the vintage passport-style booklet invitation. Of course, all in letterpress.

Scott Wallin wins Santa Barbara’s The Independent’s Third Sizzling Summer Cocktail Contest!

Last night, Scott was one of five finalists in the third annual contest held at Harry’s Plaza Cafe on State Street.

Pressing local farmers’ market ingredients into his latest concoction, The Farmers’ Market martini, his drink wooed the judges with it’s fresh blend of strawberries, cucumbers and ginger.

“Scott is always the bartender at every party,” said long-time friend Maki Shewfelt, who made the trek from Pasadena to see the contest. “He’s just the best at mixing drinks because his creativity and attention to detail shines through every time.”

Spiffy Press collaborates to replicate a vintage framed poem

Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic Couture recently commissioned us to replicate a vintage poem and frame. The original was featured in her book, Rachel Ashwell Interiors. 

Spiffy Press worked with Jeff Grainger, a friend and client, to design and construct the replica frame. Spiffy Press coffee-stained the archival-quality paper to give it a delicate, aged look to match the original.

It’s a charming poem…and a wonderful gift any mom would love to receive.

A touch of metallic ink makes this snakey letterpress bookplate pop just a little

We’re back with the second in our five-part series of letterpress business stationery for best-selling author, Deborah Harkness.Today, it’s all about a specialty item, bookplates!

The sun and snake images (called Ouroboros) relate to the books’ storyline and cover imagery. Have a look:

The dark grey snake pops just a little with a metallic touch of ink

The subtle metallic hue of the sun radiates the right mood for a snake

The bookplate:

• Is printed on Crane’s Lettra paper
• Uses a 3M adhesive backing
• Is printed with a very transparent metallic silver ink (hand-mixed from transparent white and metallic silver) for the sun image
• Uses dark grey (black and metallic silver mix) for the Ouroboros snake image, which matches the dark grey on all materials, and creates a deboss effect

Deborah prepared for an upcoming book tour with the proper marketing and business materials for an author on the go. Since she tours the U.S. and U.K., the entire suite was printed in custom color palettes, red for U.S., blue for U.K.

The USC Europe and science history teacher created the The All Souls Trilogy, including A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night, which have found their place on the New York Times Best-Seller List. Her love of wine and 17th century  history, including study of magic and science in Europe, has played out in a wonderful book for your next vacation or long airplane flight.

A 50-year wedding anniversary celebration gets a handmade letterpress invitation to corral the family for the day.

The Bertoni Brothers don’t settle for bland. Not in their party theme, location or invitations when it comes to celebrating their parents’ half century of marriage.

Spiffy Press recently created a panel, letterpress invitation for the event, which will take place on the family’s ranch. The celebration required a warm invite to set the tone so folks are ready to eat, drink and kick off their shoes and dance the night away.

Ho Ho How cute are these?

Can’t believe it is almost Thanksgiving, which means writing holiday cards is around the corner.

We just finished a really fun project for a client who plans ahead! We delivered these letterpress printed holiday cards last weekend.

They are printed on eco-friendly 100% cotton, tree-free paper and use a 100% recycled paper bag envelope. The perfect accompaniment to the donation noted on the back of the card to Home Boy Industries. So cool, socially tuned into what’s important and handmade in the USA! Love it. The client provided outstanding inspiration by writing the copy, Spiffy Press designed the card.

Inside of the card reads, “Hope you don’t get lame stuff.” We love clients who seek quirky, creative, handmade goods to spread a little holiday cheer.
