The 4th PVC Invitational game schedule (as of July 28) can be downloaded over at Spikeithard’s Downloads section.

We only required 15 Open Hitters and 10 middle blockers but here’s a good list of those who PLAYED as open spikers and middle blockers in the V-League:

- Aerieal Patnongon and Alyssa Valdez were never UST Tigresses instead, they were UST Lady Tiger Cubs or UST Junior Tigresses

SURPRISE
There were no winners for the MAJOR PRIZE but since we received only a few entries in the CONSOLATION PRIZE and that no one got it right, we are giving the CONSOLATION PRIZE to Rap Sab. He only made a mistake in one answer wherein he placed Anna Fulo in the Middle Blocker. CONGRATULATIONS RAP SAB!

Welcome guys to our new part of the site called “Know Your History” Trivia Game. This game MIGHT be only during the duration of the Shakey’s V-League tournament. But we’re thinking of extending it also to the other tournaments. The contest will involve pictures and the contestant just has to answer the question/s. The major prize will only have one winner. But in the event that two or more will win the major prize, it will be in a raffle system, with the first pick bagging the major prize and the second pick bagging the consolation prize!

Prizes include:

- Major Prize – V-League Bundle at Shakey’s Pizza Restaurant with barkada or 1000 load
- Consolation Prize – Ringside ticket or 300 peso load

There’s going to be Men’s and Women’s division. The 2010 PVC Invitational is going to be a fun and competitive tournament since participating teams are composed mostly of former varsity athletes from UAAP, NCAA, WNCAA member schools according to the PVC folks. Here are the rest of the details:

• Dates to Remember:
  July 24, 2010: Coaches’ technical meeting
  August 1, 2010: Deadline for entry fee
  August 8, 2010: Start of tournament
  October 3, 2010: Finals
  October 9, 2010: Awarding Ceremony
• IMPORTANT:
  The entry form and entry fee must be sent to the organizer on or before July 17, 2010. Tournament format is yet to be determined depending on the number of participating teams.

TWISTED THOUGHTS #1: Pilot

Hello everyone! We’re back! Yes, it’s Jannie Gavile and Benj Zabat! We’re bringing you a new corner called Twisted Thoughts which will be our name for the rest of the year.

If you guys are wondering what this article is is all about, well, we have a new group name now because we have a new member in Bea Samson! She is a Physics major in University of the Philippines. She is also a diehard volleyball fan of different teams. You guys welcome her!

It’s been a great ride. Last summer was great. We saw another championship by the great UST Tigresses. It’s sad though that this coming conference, they will join. But no worries, we’re sure, they will bring in loads of surprises come UNIGames, UAAP and the other leagues.

V-League will be July for the first time in so many years. This is due to the fact that NCAA moved their tournament from first semester to the second semester. So in turn, V-League games got earlier. This conference will be very interesting though since aside from the guest players, it will be great to see the new set of rookies who will play. Of course, also interesting is the shifting of guest players to different teams which you guys will witness in a while by reading our whole article. Aside from that, for the collegiate teams, it will be very beneficial in their respective mother leagues. Of course, they will be up against good players once more and it will be a good exposure to the rookies too.

Now, with UST not joining, 2 promising teams will suit up for the first time: the NU Lady Bulldogs and the UPHDS Lady Altas. With the addition of these squads, the V-League will still be a tight race among the 8 the eight teams. The league’s mainstays are the Adamson Lady Falcons, Ateneo Lady Eagles, College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers, FEU Lady Tamaraws, Lyceum Lady Pirates, and the San Sebastian Lady Stags.

So, this coming conference, which teams will be your bets? Hmm. Can’t decide?

It’s been almost a month since UAAP ended, and here we are, back again at the helm to give our readers a preview of what would be the V-League like this coming conference.

It’s sad that La Salle didn’t join this conference but it’s okay since there are a lot of teams who are really as strong as well. There are three provincial teams who surely beefed up their rosters, one in fact, even hired a Thai guest player. Aside from that, they are getting a lot of guest players here in Manila. I actually think that this V-League, though short, will be as exciting, or maybe even more than the past conferences.

Likewise, looking at the line-ups of teams, this ones bound to be a competitive league. I see at least 5 teams contending for the crown namely UST, Ateneo, Lyceum, Adamson and San Sebastian. I have yet to see the other teams play too so I’m not sure.

Let’s enjoy this summer conference and as much as possible support Philippine Volleyball!

THE GREEN CORNER #12: GEARING UP

Benj Zabat’s take:

It has been a long time since these two teams met and it was such a demolition for the part of CSB mainly in part because of the superb performance of the Lady Blazers back then and a seemingly lackluster performance on the part of the Lady Eagles. Well now, things I guess are bound to change from the last time these two teams faced each other? For one, the Lady Eagles seems to have gotten their much needed confidence boost due in fact to their third place finish. Now though, with the impending entrance of much taller players, things are bound to change and with the comeback of their two guest players, Son Keawbundit and Charo Soriano, this team is all spiced up and with an almost in tact team, they are bound to be one of the contenders this season. They have to watch-out their floor defense though and their general performance which has been the team’s notable weakness over their performance in the recent UAAP Season 72. On the other side of the court though, there is the Lady Blazers from CSB who would have Jennifer Manzano, their guest player from La Salle – Dasma (who plays the open spiker position) and Rossan Fajardo (sister of the controversial Kim Fajardo). As far as their line-up is concerned though, they have one of the most intact line-ups in this conference; one that bagged this year’s bridesmaid finish over at the NCAA season 84 but somehow, the girls does not seem to take this league seriously a reason why despite their good finishes in their home league, they seem to perform at a mediocre level in the V-League. Will this time be different though? Well, if they would be dead serious just as the other teams would be, expect this game to take it through the wire in a minimum of four sets. Let the game begin!

Jannie’s take:

I’m sure Ateneo’s dead serious to avenge their defeat to Benilde the last time out. After watching the training of both teams, Benilde poses a threat in the open area as they will have their two guest players put their. Aside from that, they have another offensive option in the middle in Giza Yumang. They have very good blocking and must sustain that against an Ateneo team who doesn’t block so much. However, they have to work on their floor defense though, an edge the Lady Eagles have against the Lady Blazers. As we all know, the Lady Eagles is one of the best teams when it comes to floor defense. Coupled with a solid arsenal of offense in Charo Soriano, Son Keawbundit, Dzi Gervacio, Bea Pascual, Kara Acevedo and Fille Cainglet, I’m sure the team will use these to form combination plays and to maximize its spiking ability. If Ateneo’s tremendous spiking and floor defense will work, then I’d say that this game will go to Ateneo in three to four sets.
