Primarch Fulgrim REVEALED!

This model seems to be modeled after the art work from the back of the "Fugrim" book in the Horus Heresy series where he is dueling with his brother Ferrus Manus over the corpses of both loyalist Iron Hands, and traitorous Emperor's Children amist the carnage of the Istavaan V dropzone massacre.

Right on the heals of our bi-monthly "Miniature Market" videos that are a great way to pick-up some great deals on used miniatures, we have come up with yet another way for you to save even more on the hobbies you love' The Spikey Bits Trade-In Program!

Best of all is it's less work than selling on e-Bay and it pays just the same, if not more!

This sweet system lets you trade in any used items you have just lying around collecting the proverbial dust, for either new in box items OR other used items we feature from time to time on here.

How does it work? Checkout all the details below.

The Basics:

1. Email a correctly formatted list of the bits and/or kits you want to sell to buyer@spikeybits.com

2. We will reply within one to two business days providing you with an offer for your items and a confirmation code. You will have 24 hours to approve or decline our offer. If you approve the offer all you have to do is reply to the offer e-mail stating you approve.

3. After we receive the e-mail reply from you stating you accepted our offer, all you need to do is ship your models or kits and a print out of the email confirmation to the store address.

Buylist (What we give you for your items):

Below is a very basic list of what we’re looking for and what we, on average, offer for items. With the varying condition in which used toy soldiers can be, these prices are a generalization for the best condition indicated.

We reserve the right to offer less based on larger collections and or collections containing a large percentage of slower-selling items.

If you feel that your items do not match this condition please let us know when you email us, and if possible provide pictures of your items to help us get you an accurate quote! Following these instructions allows us to process your sell order as quickly and efficiently as possible.

New in Box Items- We only accept the most current version on the market! To make sure you have to most update version of said item, be sure to check the manufacturer’s website!

We offer 40% of the current MSRP for most mainstream games with an additional 12.5% (for a total of about 50%) bonus for store credit trade in.

Assembled /used items- For used items we accept any version of items on the market.

Primed and assembled in good condition (models will not need to be stripped or re-assembled)

We offer 20% of the current MSRP for most mainstream games, with an additional 6% (for a total of about 25%) bonus for store credit trade in.

Primed and assembled in poor condition (models will need to have their paint stripped, pieces glued back in place, or have missing parts all together. This applies to worn books, custom licensed templates, etc as well.

We offer 15% of the current MSRP for most mainstream games, as this condition is pretty undesirable for most players, besides the “do it yourselfers”. Items in this condition have a tendency to sit unsold for quite sometime, so we try to not deal in items of this nature as much as possible.

Missions will be very simple, and the winner will be strictly determined by winning games. This event is limited to 32 players, with everyone playing the first 4 games and the finals being for all the marbles. So who REALLY is the WarMaster?

Hey guys, here's the latest on Eldar rumors from the Tubes.

Supposedly these guys will go on advanced order next Saturday May 25th, right around the same time as the rumored yearly Games Workshop "Price Adjustment".

It may be worth saying that now would be a good time to make any GW orders, so that you can beat the rush of everyone ordering next week to save $$$ on the new "price adjustment".

Not only may the prices be going up, but we can't ship out of country for very much longer either :(

But other than this summary it's been a quiet week on the rumor front. What do you think Games Workshop has in store for us next week?- MBG

the translation of the next eldar codex has started (or so it seems)...

All plastic minis stay the same for the moment including jetbikes
Wraithguards will be plastic with a HtH option (swords)
A new Farseer model (finecast iirc)
a character for Dire Avengers, a new entry "something-seer"

Interesting. No new jetbikes might seem like a blow, but it means that eldar could potentially get a full complement of new plastic kits after Wraithguard. Have a hard time believing we won't see plastic jetbikes soon though, perhaps before the codex release?

- Autarchs take Paths. These represent completed paths they have walked and are tied to the various aspects. By taking a path you make the respective aspect warrior a troop choice (the exception are reapers who just become scoring)

- Overall point cost reduction (guardians see it the most, aspect warriors see it the least, but are instead a fair margin better with only a minor cost decrease for two of the schools).

- new special rule that influence how howling banshees interact in combat. It's current iteration really makes them feel like glass cannons that are amazing at what they're designed to do.

-Seer councils have brotherhood of psykers (the farseers still cast their own abilities in addition, but two farseers together cast more than 2 farseers separately)

- in general, aspect warriors are hyper focused and hyper successful if used properly
- No new aspect
- 2 new flyers
- lots of units get access to skyfire
- new tank (on falcon chasis)
- Avatar is buffed a lot
- Two new special characters
- exarchs are all really good in duels in different ways
- farseers are still awesome psykers
- warlocks improve deny the witch.
- falcon/wave serpent point reduction
- way to make some of the craftworld specific lists
- additional rules for allying with dark eldar
- expanded fluff on the war in heaven

Path system has been revamped. Autarchs take paths that are now fixed in point cost (before they became more expensive the more you took) but do not make their aspect troops.

Instead it allows corresponding aspects to be taken as compulsory troops.

Ergo, the Path of the Striking Scorpions would allow you to take up to two striking scorpions as troops.

If you also took the path of Swooping Hawks you could take up to two Swooping Hawks as troops or one and one.

Guardians are a lot cheaper and have more options for special weapons.

New transport for dire avengers / weapon platform (with no transport capacity).

And lots of new goodies.

If tau are the long range shooting army, eldar are a mix with potential units in short, mid and long range

Long range comes almost exclusively from heavy support, however so you need to create a mix it seems.

Aspects are still hyper focused and saw a very small decrease in points except fire dragons.

Eldar were supposedly getting the following:

New tank chassis, 2 builds, between falcon and cobra in size, one build had transport capacity and some type of melta or flame based weapon (fusion cannon iirc) the other build was essentially a flakk cannon, but not the same as the fw firestorm, bigger tl guns.

There was a new avatar sculpt but im pretty sure that ended up being a designer test seen at GD

Wraithguard get a plastic box with new weapon variants. Lots of rumors of dial build, but nothing i've heard enough of to know what's true.

Heavy rumors of new jetbikes, building guardian and shining spears.

However, it seems to be a trend not to release too many rehash boxes. If we got wraithguard, jetbikes, and an avatar all in this release, well Ill be broke and need new shorts.

Rumors have pointed to a new farseer model, and thats all but confirmed by your recent post.

The bomber and fighter do not share a box from everything I've heard. The fighter is "very" similar to the nightwing, except for the wing shape. One of the two is rumored to use some form of distortion weapon, be it bomb or missiles i dont know.

Rumors of a new aspect exist, the word i've heard is this has something to do with wraith constructs, but really even that is too vague.

I know others have said there is a large wraith construct, but none of my sources are backing this now, fwiw.

For the release there are two new aspect exarch or p lord (not sure which) sculpts in finecast, and one named hq, these are all new scuplts, but could be old characters.

Ive been told guardians are getting a new box to make them and storm guardians. Again, i cant believe wed get so many redone plastics. But it makes sense on its own.

So to boil it down, from the new new dept could be 2 flyers, a dual build tank, a new large walker/mc, a few blisters, and a new aspect.

Then on top of that old models getting plastics.

Its just way too much for a release, so what will stick and what wont?

The Dark Reaper Exarch regains a classic weapon option from the days of yore. HINT, HINT - it involves skulls and chain.

Aspect Warriors are moving to plastic using the "combo-unit" dual-build format GW has moved to of late. We'll leave it up to you to guess which aspects could be paired off into combo-kit boxes with differing heads/weapon options.

The new Eldar flyer is quite curved in nature, with sweeping lines all about. A real head turner.

The new Eldar "big kit" is a wraith construct that shares numerous design cues with the current War Walker - but much larger. A virtual beast...

Eldar keep thier distance from Tau from an overall design theme. They will be the masters of maneuver and outright speed. Look for multiple options and units types for jetbikes including up-armored and even faster versions. Jetbikes as a family may well become the staple hallmark of the army. They will come in multiple flavors with both anti-personnel and anti-armor types.

FOC wise, look for a whole lot of jumping about of units between the HEAVY SUPPORT, FAST ATTACK, and ELITES slots. There will be difficult player decisions to be made in there.

Interesting. For those that remember, that statline has quite a lot of familiarity with the overall design of the EPIC Phantom titan's pulsar main weapon. Almost an homage in scaled down 40K scale...

-Universal Fleet including the Avatar. The Wraith stuff though won't have fleet.
-Old independent character special rules moved to Warlord Traits
-Jet Bikes moved back to Fast Attack (IC to unlock to troops)
-Eldar psychic powers nerfed: some powers disappearing, random table, focus on witchfire
-Warlocks can only use Eldar specific psychic powers
-Runes of Warding Nerfed: No longer board wide
-Farseer 2 wounds
-Eldrad Mastery Level 4, Staff of Ulthamar similar to Ahirman staff
-Almost all Phoenix Lords lose Eternal Warrior have cost reductions
-Exarch's must be included in all Aspects units. (Sergeant Character)
-Don't expect many changes with the Aspect warriors just cleaning up old rules and such
-Dark Reapers, Swooping Hawks, and Banshees see the biggest cost drops and anti-flyer additions
-Guardians 7 points a piece
-Vehicles will have either no cost reduction of very minor reduction (5pts) with Vypers benefiting the most
-Vehicles come stock with shuriken cannons vehicle savings come with cheaper weapon upgrades and wargear
-Eldar Flyers first to get Vector Dancer (minus Forge World of course)
-Don't be surprised to see Giant Wraithlord with T8 and Will not Die

The Eldar codex in essences won't reinvent the wheel this is update to bring them in line with 6th edition units costs and such and with Phil Kelly supposedly once again at the helm expect the changes to be more like Chaos Space Marine codex and less like the Chaos Daemons codex.

Don't expect to see any new Aspect molds with maybe Swooping Hawks getting an update.

Common Eldar fighter/bomber features:
- Downward angling of the primary wings (about 30º I'd estimate)
- Canards are very slightly angled down, but near horizontal
- Engines are mounted in pods in the wings
- One weapon mounted centreline under the hull, and one in a pod in each wing

Hemlock:
- Has a single vertical stabiliser mounted on the centreline of the aircraft

Nightshade:
- Twin "vertical" stabilisers (they're actually about 30º from horizontal), one mounted on each engine pod.

I work at a hobby shop and yesterday I was submitting my Games Workshop order. To my surprise my GW rep asked me if I wanted one of the collectors edition codex's ( he knows i'm a huge Eldar fan). I submitted my order for the entire new line of Eldar mini's. Some notable orders were a Wraithguard box set, a new Eldar Avatar box, Jetbikes 3 pack, and the new flier. He couldn't give me names but I can confirm that on May 24th the pre-order for Eldar will be released and they will be released the first week of June.

...the flyers and wraithknight are the new shiny things, so they're going to be what grab the most attention.
You are getting new wraithguard - it's a double pack that also do a close combat version. Both types will also have weapon options.

So what does that mean exactly? Well let me paint you a picture; You're playing your favorite army, and are in the middle of a "big" game.

Suddenly you lose one of your armored vehicles, and after scrambling in panic for something.. anything... you may have lying around to replace that wrecked vehicle, you realize that maybe you need a better solution to represent the boundaries of a destroyed vehicle.

Sure you can make an outline with some dice, use an index card, or just turn the recently frag-ed vehicle upside down to represent those boundaries, but why not enhance your battlefield with some sweet painted and easy to transport markers?

Hot Kabuki Miniature Line Unboxing & Review

There is a new sheriff in town when it comes to miniatures, and their name is Kabuki.

Kabuki Models has been quietly been making miniatures for the past few years, but have really be taking their offerings to the next level as of late with amazing quality resin casts.

They have very wide range of miniatures from "Knights of Legend" to "Pin-Up Girls" and everything in between.

I was fortunate enough to get one of the very limited edition Christmas Boxes for the Knights of Legends line, and unboxed it below for you all. It's a really nice collection of the line that was produced up to the end of 2012. Plus it also comes with sweet artist pin-ups of the concept art for the figures included (Phoenix Knight shown above).

I believe there are 5 more figures planned for the line, and of course those seem to be some of the most desirable ones.

Below is the Steel Knight, one of the famous "Knights of Legend". With all those chevrons, and huge hammer, I wonder whom he could be? Clearly he's a specialist of siege warfare, and I can't wait to get him into my Iron Warriors army.

Also featured in the Kabuki range is the "Sci-Fi Stand Alone" line of alternate near future versions of famous warriors of the past. Who doesn't want their legions of toy soldiers lead into battle by Napoleon or Patton?

Next up are the aforementioned "Pin-Up Girls" line that definitely adds a little character to any army they join. Most of the figures come in both a 28mm and 54mm version which is perfect for a myriad of games. I think these are some of the best female form figures out there on the market today!

The best part is that not only does Kabuki offer a several lines of figures to augment any force you may collect, they also make a ton of conversion parts.

They call them "Luxury Conversion Bits" and they really do live up to their name.

All of the packs of shoulder pads include four pads, and the backpacks work for both 28mm and 40mm scaled miniatures.

Overall I really have nothing but good things to say about this line of miniatures. The sculpts are great, plus each of the limited edition figures comes individually numbered out of 500, so you know your getting something both collectible as well as playable.

Flames of War Tactics: King tigers

King Tigers. The undisputed 1-on-1 masters of tank warfare in FoW. Plus, the models are cool as ice.

However we all know that FoW requires a combined-arms, coordinated approach, and King Tigers are usually too expensive and too unwieldy to justify including in a competitive list.

Although they can probably win any tank duel they come across, trained artillery can bombard them out of the game (AT 4 on bombardments...just don't roll a 1, right?), and my local meta is centered on infantry-heavy lists. But I didn't re-paint these mean cats just to have them sit on a shelf!

Let's look at what you get with the King Tiger: Front Armor 15, Side Armor 8, Top Armor 2. This bad boy can wade through bazookas in defensive fire and in assault. The barrel of the gun is almost as long as the Sherman tank, and has the stats to reflect this: RoF 2, Range 40", AT 16, FP 3+. Except for the Jadgtiger, no tank in the game is safe from this beast's wrath. Then can also spray infantry in the open with their co-ax and hull MG's. After all of this they still get to take Tiger Ace skills. So why isn't everyone taking these?

Wow, the right side is completely blown away

Well...they're slow, moving only 8" in the movement phase (plus a possible stormtrooper move). They don't have protected ammo either, which makes their crews less reliable. They're overloaded, which further constrains their mobility. Plus, when I said they can wade through bazookas...that will only last until you roll a 1, which always happens at the worst time, of course. And there's something else that I'm forgetting to mention, something fairly important...

Oh, right, a single tank is 345 points! God damn! For Confident Vet...that's easily two additional platoons for any other army out there, including the Germans (panzergrenadiers plus some armored recon would come in well under 345 points). That's 345 points for a single-tank platoon, that can be wiped from the board by an artillery bombardment. Now your 345 points went down the drain and your opponent has a VP.

So what conclusions have I come to having used them in a few recent games?

1. Don't use them as part of the Schwere Panzer list. That's a minimum of 3 King Tigers, and both of those compulsory platoons would be single tanks.

2. Take 2 of them. I know, that's 690 points. But two King Tigers is an impressive unit that, in my games anyway, was derided for being a points sink. But think about how much better this makes the platoon, and how they will largely make their points back by killing one platoon of CV American Shermans. Two tanks allows you to retreat if one tank gets blown sky-high, and also won't force a morale check on one casualty. My opponents weren't laughing when the King Tigers were on their objective at the end of the game.

3. If given the choice, take the "Every Shot Counts" Ace skill. RoF 3 sounds awesome, but tanks are going to be moving most of the time anyway, which means you really need to ensure that as many shots as possible find a target. Don't forget that this applies in defensive fire as well.

4. Shoot tanks. Unless you're softening infantry for an assault, don't get sucked-in and shoot infantry. Shoot tanks, shoot guns, shoot artillery...forget the infantry. Leave the infantry for other elements of your army.

5. Team them up with a cheaper anti-tank unit. Whether it be StuGs, Panzer IV's, or even Marders (I reference cheap options because God knows you need to spare the points after taking 2 of these) use teamwork to try and trap units between the King Tigers and your other units. Enemy armor will (probably) try to avoid your King Tigers, so steer the enemy into your cunning traps!

6. You need Recce. You have to at least try to trip-up any Tank Destroyer ambushes, and recce is the best way to do it. Maximize the veteran ranges for being in command, and use the recce 8" bubble of ambush prevention to its fullest.

7. Hug terrain, but try not to enter it if at all possible. Being close to terrain will discourage planes from ranging-in on your tanks, but entering terrain is too much of a risk. Bogging down would leave your tank as a sitting duck.

8. Don't get cocky. Good advice in general, but especially with a near-700 point unit. A roll of 1 at any point will royally screw the royal Tiger.

Sweet Sisters of Battle Cosplay

Daniel from Roses and Boltshells really likes to Cosplay.

He's made both a suit of Imperial Fists Power armor, and Terminator Armor, which have been featured on Spikey Bits and around the tubes as well.

But it doesn't stop there folks, he also made a suit of Adeptus Sororitas (Sisters of Battle) Power Armor as well.

And that is just awesome....

Once again the attention to detail is IMHO awe inspiring, everything just looks perfect to me. I can't even begin to imagine the time it would take to build, much less paint something like this. Plus the fact that he's done it three times now, instills a very real sense of awe in his abilities as a prop-maker.

Attack of The 20 Foot Tall Space Marine?!!

Aw snap! Apparently someone got a hold of the 20 foot tall inflatable Space Marine pattern that Games Workshop used to display at Chicago Games Day and made some adjustments?

Someone sent this to my inbox a few days ago. I just couldn’t help but share it with the world. It seems that a certain company is making giant Space Marine figures. You may wonder what I mean by giant. I am talking like a 20 feet tall giant!

So, now you may also wonder how would someone make a Space Marine that big? Well the answer is pretty easy. All you have to do is make it inflatable! Inflatable like the King Kong giant plastic balloon outside your local used car dealership.

As you can see Landmark Creations is responsible for the Ultramarine near your closest housing development. This loveable blowup doll goes by the name “Slash Gordon”, because Ultramarines look like Flash Gordon characters…how?

So, exactly how long will it take for Games Workshop to find out about this and stop it? I hope so quickly, because if GW is all about quality and integrity of their IP “Slash Gordon” certainly doesn’t past muster. Even better it looks like Landmark Creations has no idea they are ripping off GW as they believe that “Slash Gordon” is an “electric blue Transformer-type action figure” from their own press release.

How-To Making a Custom Swamp Base

Back in July I bought the brand new Ork Flyer while I was in the States on leave from deployment, boxed it up and shipped it back to the desert. When it got to me I wasted no time in building it as a Dakka Jet.

Then Hobby ADD kicked in and it got put aside in favor of other projects. In March I pulled it out and got started. This is my first Bad Moon model for the Orks I'll eventually get to and as such it was kind of a test model.

You may remember my Bad Moons Dakka Jet How-To from last week, well I've decided that my Orks would look really good on swamp themed bases. Using a hollow blank base, some grey stuff and some random twigs I build the basic layout for the flight base.

I primed it black and sprayed it with Minitaire Swamp Ground and Sewer Water.

Drybrushed the ground, painted the "trees and stumps" and added some clumped flock and lichen. I then mixed some Secret Weapon Sewer Water with realistic water and applied it in four coats to get the whole area filled in. To finish it off I added some tall grass to the base.

And here is the whole thing done.
