5 Laptop Accessories To Add To Your Wish List

I haven’t gotten my laptop yet, but I should have one within the next 3 months, (keeping fingers and toes crossed). I really need one so I can work online and be somewhat mobile. Below are a few accessories that I’m adding to my wish list, and hopefully will have them by the time I’m ready to buy the laptop. Maybe this list will give you some ideas to get for your own laptop.

Laptop Sleeve

Above all else, I want to protect my laptop computer from damage. I’m not one to carry around big bulky things like some of the laptop cases I’ve seen. I need something more lightweight, so I think a laptop sleeve would be better than a big leather or vinyl case. My daughter, Jess, has a nice leather case, but it’s rather large and I’d hate to tote that thing around all day, and you never know when you may have to do just that. So, yeah, I’m going to stick with something simple like this one:

Laptop Stand

Now, just so you know, laptop stands come in many shapes, sizes, and styles and they have different purposes. Personally, I need to have a laptop stand that I can pull up to the sofa and use my laptop while I’m watching TV. The one below is simple, yet it is exactly what I need. You may prefer something more elaborate or something for a completely different purpose.

Headset

A headset is not specifically for a laptop, but for me, it will be a must. I am a frequent visitor to Second Life, and I will be visiting there a lot with my laptop, since then, I’ll be able to carry it with me wherever I go -- and the headset will come in very handy when my BFF, who lives far, far away from me, are hanging out together there It will sure beat having to type text for everything we want to say. So yeah, this is definitely going on my wish list!

Optical Mouse
I don’t know about you, but I will have a hard time getting used to the touchpad on a laptop. I’ve tinkered with my daughter’s laptops on occasion, and I just get so frustrated trying to use the touchpad. It’s just so foreign to me. So, to keep things simple for myself, I’m going to have an optical mouse on hand for times when I just want to revert back to the good ole days. They can be corded or cordless, whichever your preference may be. Mine would definitely be cordless. An optical mouse is so much better than the traditional mouse with the ball in the bottom because it makes cleaning a snap. Yeah, I’m soooo lazy.

Cordless Keyboard
I know this may seem pointless to some, but I’m just weird when it comes to my peripherals. I enjoy having a lot of room on a keyboard, and sometimes the laptop just makes me claustrophobic. I would at least like to have a wireless keyboard on hand for times when I want to spread out, so to speak. I know, I know. I’m just weird that way.

Let’s face it, in today’s technological world, if you are planning to go mobile, the iPhone seems to be the way to go. It is almost like carrying around your own tiny personal computer. I personally don’t have one…yet. I say “yet” because I do plan to get one within the next six months to a year. And of course, when I do get one, I am going to need some iPhone accessories in order to enhance my mobile experience. I think it’s a good idea to start looking around for those accessories now.

However, if you drive a car, you may want to invest in an iPhone car charger. Believe me, if I have a new car by the time I have an iPhone, I will definitely get one of these. When out and about, no one wants to have to search around for an electrical jack to plug in your phone if it the battery gets low, now do they? Of course not. That is why it is always good to have one of these around.

My hubby and I have been discussing our television service, which at the moment is the local cable company. I have been pretty happy with it except for the fact that it’s terribly expensive. I suggested to him that we look into other options, and see what other companies had to offer. The problem is, we have never had anything other than local cable, so we weren’t exactly sure what our options were and if they’d even be suitable to our needs.

After a bit of looking around, I came across a site called My TV Options. At the home page of the site, I selected the features that we would like to have, such as DVR, movie channels and local channels. I then entered my zip code and was taken to a results page that gave me a rundown on each of the features I had chosen, and recommended that DirectTV was the best option for our television needs, and they even supplied the phone number for direct tv in my area.

So, I’ll be giving directtv a call and checking out their packages as soon as possible. If you’re not sure which television option is best for your family, I recommend letting My TV Options direct you to the right place.

A Cinematic Reminder

SWATcash Shut Down This Morning

As of 5:45 am CST this morning, my favorite GPT site (and biggest money-maker) shut down due to frauding members and advertising networks not paying them. I am devastated over this. SWATcash was by far the best GPT site on the internet with 90,000+ members. They stated they will do their best to pay members what they have coming to them as soon as they are able to. However, they won't be paying any bonuses received. This kinda hurts me, because I had $110 in bonus earnings coming and I guess I can just write that off. But I won't complain, because that site has been very good to me over the last year-and-a-half that I have been a member. I have earned over $3000 in cash and prizes.

I know that some of my readers signed up under me and in case you missed it, here is what SWAT Brian posted at the forum yesterday:

Due to all of the recent events I am sad to say that SWATcash will be shutting down effective December 1st, 2008. We will strive to do all we can to get payments out in a timely manner. Unfortunately if all goes well we will only be able to pay out Offer Earnings, Referral Commission, Shopping Earnings, and Click Earnings. With shutting down we have to end our contracts with the company that runs our servers which is really putting the strain on the company's wallet and possibly charging us more than we will have coming in, in which case we will have to file for bankruptcy. We hope that they will be glad to work with us and get that number down so we can payout all of the members who have made payout through December 1st.

We know this sucks, you don't have to tell me twice. We are still waiting on checks that are now almost 2 months late to us. I have been told recently that a check was over-nighted Wednesday only to find out today that it still hasn't even been sent. That is just how it has been going lately for us. We are doing everything in our power to get what is owed to us so we can get what is owed to you. We realize that this is a terrible time for this to happen as Christmas is just around the corner, but believe me that this is hurting us just as much as it is hurting you. A lot of you may think that we have a mound of money in the company that we are sitting on but the truth of the matter is, is that it's just not true. With paying to keep the site up, paying our employees the money is going down just as fast as it is coming in because every lead is being scrutinized more closely than ever and it is taking a longer time for payments to be processed. Now days all a advertiser has to do is say "I think we have some fraud here" whether it be one lead or 100 and your full payment is held till it is figured out which can take months.

Like I've answered before, "Why don't you have an emergency fund?", we did but it got taken out when we paid out in August and we later received word of fraud from the month of July and August. That's just how it goes in this industry and for a long time we took small hits here and there but never one this big. We always put the members first throughout this whole 2 year run that the company has been around and don't intend on changing now.

We really appreciated working with all of the truthful members that stuck around on the site and forums from the very beginning. Without you guys we would have never made it anywhere. The forums were always active and fun to be around and it truly made my job a little bit easier with all the helpful members answering questions when a mod or admin wasn’t around to answer them. I want to thank all the mods for doing a great job around here keeping the forums clean and informative. I’d love to thank Jeremy and Will for doing an excellent job keep the site new with cool features and making the site as unique as it was. Thanks to Soylagringaloca who did a great job handling support and making sure it was done in a timely manner and keeping it as upbeat as possible. And also thanks to SWATAP for providing us with pictures for visual representation of topics and posts. He kept the forums lively and bursting with activity. I hope I didn’t miss anyone but thanks to everyone involved with SWATcash it was like one giant family even though sometimes it got a bit out of hand.

The site will go down sometime tonight or tomorrow morning. I apologize for how everything went down and how this ended up, but I give you my word that we will try to payout members what they deserve and rightfully earned.

Holiday Shopping Is Made Easy With ShopWiki

Well folks, it's about that time again. That wonderful time when we have to find just the right items for our loved ones. Anything that can make this time less stressful is always welcome to me. I remember the days of having to actually leave the house to do my holiday shopping. Thank goodness this isn't the case nowadays. I really hated fighting all the traffic and the crowds of people. So these days, I try to do all my shopping online.

Since the economy is so bad, and continuing to get worse, our family has decided to only buy presents for the kids this year. So, I'll mostly be shopping for toys and games. Since I don't have little ones anymore, (mine are all grown up now), I didn't have a clue where to begin shopping for my nieces and nephews! I really don't keep up with the latest kiddie toy trends, so I needed a little help. Some kind of "toy-buying guide" that would help me figure out what to buy.

Lucky for me, (and you), I came across ShopWiki, a wicked cool shopping search engine to help you find the best products at the best prices from all across the web, not just a few stores. I tell ya, this place is fantastic! I didn't even know where to start when it came to buying a gift for my niece, Kenzie. I do know that she's very creative and loves to draw and make crafts. So I checked out ShopWiki's Crafts Kits for Kids Buying Guide and it showed me appropriate craft kits to buy for children in her age group. That was extremely helpful, since I had no idea. Once I chose a gift, I was taken to a page of search results that showed me the best prices and links to the online stores where it was available.

There's no telling how long it would have taken me to find a gift for Kenzie without this helpful guide. I intend to use ShopWiki to buy all my holiday gifts. And I won't even have to leave the house to do it! Yay me!

SWATcash Fraud Delays Payments

I've been a member of SWATcash for going on two years and I have mentioned many times that this is the best GPT (get-paid-to) site out there. They have always paid on time and I have been the winner of some really cool prizes, including a Playstation 3, an iPod Classic and a $1,000 cash prize.

However, over the last few months, the level of fraud activity at the site has been high, and advertising networks are delaying payment until they have weeded out the fraudsters. This has put quite a damper on things over there. No payments have been made since September. Any money earned in September would normally have been paid out on October 15th, but members are still awaiting October payout. We were informed at the forum that for the next few months, we would be paid on a net-45 basis, meaning earnings would be paid on the 15th of the second month after the month they were earned. This means we should have received our September earnings on November 15th.

It is now the 18th of November and we are still awaiting our September earnings. We were again informed at the forum that the advertising network still has not paid, and they really have no idea when they will, so our earnings have been put on hold until the advertisers come through.

I have never had a problem recieving payment from SWATcash, but I am beginning to wonder if they will ever be able to pay us. I have been a very loyal member, promoting the site far and wide, and I'm doing my best to trust that they will come through this mess and pay us. If they do, I will continue to promote it.

But, I can't help but wonder if the present economic crisis is affecting the GPT industry, and whether or not SWATcash will survive after this. Many members are threatening to leave. Most have stopped completing offers altogether, because most of them just do not approve anymore. I am one of those people. I can't see wasting my time on offers that don't approve. I mean why should we? It doesn't benefit anyone. And even if they did approve, would the advertisers actually pay for the leads?

I truly hope SWATcash pulls through this mess and returns to the greatness it used to be. I know I am missing that money I used to make there. It has put a hurt on my pocket-book for sure. I try very hard not to depend on money I make online, but sometimes it's what gets the rent or utilities paid for us.

Could There Be Another X-Files Movie?

Looks like writer/producer Frank Spotnitz is mulling over the idea of a third X-Files movie. Being a huge X-Files fan, I certainly hope this happens.

Spotnitz says that even though he is working on some very hush-hush TV projects right now, that he would welcome a third big screen X-Files movie. However 20th Century Fox hasn’t gotten back to them on that score yet. The producer is the first one to be upfront about the “disappointing” box office of this summer’s X-Files: I Want to Believe. “We opened a week after The Dark Knight and got mowed down by it,” he says. “No one knew what a huge historical event it would be.”

Activists Throw Flour On Lindsay Lohan

Lindsey Lohan is in the news again. It seems she was pelted with a flour bomb on arrival at a Paris nightclub wearing a fur stole.

Animal rights activists showered the 22-year-old actress with flour when she went to the VIP Room Theater in the early hours of Saturday with her friend, disc jockey Samantha Ronson.

The owner of the nightclub helped Lohan dust off her blue sequined dress and black stole before she posed on the red carpet. Ronson went on to spin tracks for a crowd that included reggae rapper Shaggy and "I Kissed a Girl" singer Katy Perry.

What Is Led Zeppelin Without Robert Plant?

According to Rolling Stone, the members of Led Zeppelin are in search of a new lead singer, as Robert Plant has decided it's just not his thing to reunite with the band.

Plant: "The whole idea of being on a cavalcade of merciless repetition is not what it's all about."

No decisions have been made, but they have been holding rehearsals with such singers as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge. Jimmy Page has admitted that it will not be a Zeppelin project without Robert Plant.

It's still unclear how popular this project will be, or what the commercial aspects are without the names "Led Zeppelin" or "Robert Plant." Personally, I'm excited about it, especially if Kennedy gets the job. I have always thought he had a great voice, and it's different enough from that of Robert Plant that maybe they won't fall into that dreaded "tribute band" pit.
